Did you ever wake up in the morning with rampant negativity sucking the life out of you? The flesh just doesn't want to face the same troubles and anxieties you went to bed with. In this installment of Stand Up, we explore the archaeological evidence for the Exodus with Creationist Brian Young of the Creation Instruction Association. If you are a student of the Bible and believe it is the Word of God from beginning to end, you might not ever have asked this question over, say, a 7 day creation issue or any other hot topic in the church today. If you ask scholars, or even just generative Ai, you will get the answer that it is a myth and it doesn't matter because, well, what a great story! But this approach is largely secular - and dangerous. Because history, and especially biblically archaeological history is so exhilarating, we should welcome any evidence that all those people who lived so long ago were part of one of the great events in Israel's history, and it speaks of a God who tells us exactly what He wants us to know for His good purposes. Given that Israel had grown to represent a fairly large number over the 430 years, evidence of their lives should be available in one form or another. Today, Mary takes on a topic that may be hard to hear, but is necessary, and few in the church are speaking out about it. The passage is 2 Timothy 3:1-5. When the Bible talks about perilous times, we tend to think about those headlines that appear suddenly and stand the world on its head - birth pangs, wars and rumours, Israel. And yet these verses point to a peril no one wants to talk about: the human heart. And not of unbelievers, but in the church. How in the world did we get here, loving self more than God? And yet, churches are battling this ill more and more to the point where believers are staying away. Yes, lack of sound doctrine plays a part - sometimes. But when narcissism begins to work its evil throughout a church, flowing primarily from controlling and unaccountable leadership, who is watching out for the sheep? What is a "form of godliness"? Why does Paul say to avoid such? What are the qualifications for pulpit ministry? Christians tend to be gracious and put up with a lot of mischief from leadership, as long as the doctrine is sound. But what does God think about those who mistreat His people? Let's let the Word do the talking on this one, but talk about it we must. It's headline time again, another attempt to make sense of a lot of nonsense, at least from a worldly perspective. But eternally speaking, there is more sense to it all than you might think. Today we talk about the spiritual aspect of the wildfire disaster and what some Christians think is a helpful spin but it is not. Speaking for God on any given thing is above our pay grade but that doesn't stop people from doing it anyway. We also talk about Greenland, and how this appears to be nonsense as well, but it isn't. Still paying attention to events, or have you bailed out of sheer exhaustion? Understandable, but there is a price to paying attention and being able to tell others what is going on, and why it matters. Authority of Tradition & the Magisterium Catechism (CCC 80-82, 85): Catholicism teaches that divine revelation comes from both Scripture and Tradition, and that the Church's Magisterium (Pope and bishops) has the authority to interpret both. Biblical Challenge: Protestants argue that the Bible alone is the final authority (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Matthew 15:3-9) and reject extra-biblical traditions as authoritative. 2. The Role of Mary Catechism (CCC 491, 494, 966, 971, 2677): Catholicism teaches that Mary was immaculately conceived (without sin), remained perpetually a virgin, was assumed bodily into heaven, and can intercede for believers. Biblical Challenge: The Bible states that "all have sinned" (Romans 3:23), never explicitly teaches Mary's perpetual virginity (Matthew 1:24-25), and does not mention her bodily assumption. Additionally, Christ is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). 3. Salvation by Grace & Works Catechism (CCC 1987-2029): Catholic doctrine teaches that salvation is initially by grace but involves cooperation with God through faith, works, and the sacraments. Biblical Challenge: Many Protestants cite Ephesians 2:8-9, which states salvation is "by grace... through faith, not by works." Romans 4:5 and Galatians 2:16 emphasize justification apart from the law. 4. The Sacraments as Necessary for Salvation Catechism (CCC 1129, 1257): The Catholic Church teaches that the sacraments (such as baptism and the Eucharist) are necessary for salvation. Biblical Challenge: While baptism and communion are important, the Bible presents salvation as a matter of faith in Christ (John 3:16; Acts 16:31). The thief on the cross was saved without sacraments (Luke 23:42-43). 5. Mary chats with theologian, author and speaker Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum. He is one of the foremost authorities on the nation of Israel. He received his BA from Cedarville University, and his Masters of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary.The completion of his dissertation, Israelology: The Missing Link in Systematic Theology, was the culmination of 13 years of research for which he earned his Ph.D. at New York University in 1989. He has done graduate work studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary in NY and Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is the founder and director of Ariel Ministries, which is dedicated to evangelism of Jewish people and discipleship of Jewish and Gentile believers from a messianic Jewish frame of reference. His testimony as a Messianic Jew goes back to the 1940s when his parents were driven from their home in Poland, ending up eventually in the US after the war. Gentiles often have questions about this very subject because today's churches are not clear on this issue, citing that since Israel is gathered in unbelief since 1948,  today's Israel has no prophetic significance.
