| Staying Prayed Up | 02 Feb 2024 | 01:11:12 | |
Join Kim for our 10th episode! The topic is prayer. This podcast is the fruit of prayer. Kim offers insights to what prayer really is, what gets in the way of prayer, and ways to pray. Kim offers real and tangible suggestions on getting started in prayer or going deeper in prayer. Quotes: "There is a moment between intending to pray and actually praying that is as dark and silent as any moment of our lives. It is the split second between thinking about prayer and really praying. For some of us, this split second may last for decades." Emilie Griffin - Clinging "Prayer is, after all, a very dangerous business. For the the benefits it offers us of growing closer to God, it carries with it one great element of risk - the possibility of change, In prayer we open ourselves up to the chance God will do something with us that we had not intended." Emilie Griffin - Clinging “IN prayer, the soul is purified from sin, charity is nurtured, faith takes root, hope is strengthened, the spirit is gladdened. IN prayer, the soul melts into tenderness, the heart is purified, the truth reveals itself, temptation is overcome, sadness is put to flight. IN prayer, the senses are renewed, lukewarmness vanishes, failing virtue is reinvigorated, the rust of vices is scoured away; and in this exchange, there comes forth living sparks, blazing desires of heaven, in which the flame of divine love burns.” Jacques Phillipe - Thirsting for Prayer Books: The Better Part by John Bartunek The Lord's Prayer by Romano Guardini Living the Lord's Prayer by Albert Haase

| A Message of Hope | 01 Mar 2024 | 00:20:40 | |
Today’s episode is a follow-up to last week’s Empowering Hope and Healing. It is a message of hope especially for those who are in the healing process. Surround yourself with people who have walked through the healing journey…they will help you. Don’t isolate - we were broken to be given as bread for the world. This is communion. We keep healing (ourselves) as we keep healing (others). We are here on this earth to empower hope and healing for one another. @spotsoftimepodcast Empower Hope and Healing
| Quenched | 08 Mar 2024 | 00:25:59 | |
Today’s episode is a reflection on the gospel story, the Woman at the Well. It’s a story of redemption and healing…mercy and inclusion. It is a story full of powerful lessons. The woman who is nameless which theologians say that whenever a main character is unnamed, we should insert our own name. I am the woman at the well. You are the woman or the man at the well. The story is about us…each one of us where Jesus offers us Living Water to quench our thirsty souls. @spotsoftimepodcast Empower Hope and Healing
| Now I See | 15 Mar 2024 | 00:29:00 | |
Today’s episode is a reflection on the gospel story, the Man Born Blind. It’s a story of moving from darkness to light, from blindness to seeing the truth about ourselves and about God. It’s a story of transformation, freedom, and enlightenment. As we journey closer to Easter, may our eyes be opened to whatever changes we are called to make so that we might show up on Easter Sunday as a light for the world.

Today’s episode is a short reflection on the gospel story, Jesus Raises Lazarus From The Dead. It is a short episode to allow listeners to engage in quiet self-reflection about what continues to keep you bound and from living fully alive. The story is about a man named Lazarus. But the story is also about each one of us. A message is sent to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is ill.” We are the ones whom Jesus loves. We are the loved ones who need healing. We are the loved ones who need new life. @spotsoftimepodcast Empower Hope and Healing.

| Seven Promises of Hope and Healing | 29 Mar 2024 | 00:40:42 | |
Today (Good Friday) is about self-giving, unwavering love. A love that brings forth goodness - even in the worst and darkest of times. This episode is a reflection of what is known as the Seven Last Words of Jesus but I’m calling this reflection the Seven Promises of Hope and Healing. They are the seven final phrases or words from Jesus as he hangs on the cross. I pray that this reflection will fill your heart with the unconditional and unlimited love of God and will nourish your soul with the promise of hope and healing. @spotsoftimepodcast Empower Hope and Healing
| On the Road of Life | 05 Apr 2024 | 00:27:28 | |
Today’s episode is called On the Road of Life and is based on the Gospel scripture from Luke known as The Road to Emmaus. In one way or another, each one of us is on the road to Emmaus. The story unfolds in a way that resonates in the heart of every Christian. It is a story of disillusionment, encounter, discovery, and joy. Sound familiar? It is a story that runs parallel to our own lives - on the road of life as we experience disillusionment, encounter, discovery, and joy. @spotsoftimepodcast Empower Hope and Healing.
| You Are Here | 08 Dec 2023 | 00:38:44 | |
Kim shares her story and thoughts about busyness and her quest for a more balanced life. The story of Martha and Mary that Kim refers to can be found in the bible in the book of Luke, chapter 10, verses 38-42. The "slow down" activities are outlined below: ACTIVITY ONE: Take a moment and take a deep breath in...and then exhale. Do this at least two or three times. Then as you breathe in - think calm and as you exhale, think chaos...as you breathe in, think presence and as you exhale, think distraction. You can do this over and over, breathing in calm, presence, goodness, peace, gratitude, etc....while breathing out chaos, distraction, anxiousness, busyness. ACTIVITY TWO: Pick a day and resolve to make every thought a prayer to God - even during the mundane activities. Instead of "I hate making dinner," can easily become, "God, thank you for the resources to buy food to nourish myself and my family." OR "The kids are driving me crazy," can become, "God, give me your patience...remind me of how patient you are with me and help me to share your patience with my kids."

Welcome back! We are continuing the reflection on the Enneagram. Today we are looking at each of the nine Enneagram types. The purpose of the Enneagram is to discover the highest and truest expression of ourselves. This is important work because what we don’t know about ourselves can hurt us and others. Understanding the nine types of personality provides the kind of self-knowledge we need to understand who we are and why we see and respond to the world the way we do…as well as understanding why others see and respond to the world the way they do. This is a journey to building compassion for ourselves and for others.

| Finding the Treasure in You | 26 Apr 2024 | 00:29:14 | |
Today’s episode is about Finding the Treasure In You. Joseph Campbell wrote, “ The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” We find our treasure - our light - by peeling back the layers of our habitual and unconscious reactions and responses. Buried inside of each one of us is our treasure - our God-given gifts to help us accomplish our destiny and to show the rest of us a brilliant facet of God. What’s your treasure?

| Be A Vessel | 15 Dec 2023 | 00:43:14 | |
We are all vessels of the Holy Spirit and God fills up our vessel so that we can share his love, light, comfort - whatever it is that others may need. Everyone is going through something and God wants us to know that he hears our cries and that he cares. We can help deliver that message. Be a vessel! Today, Kim is talking with Sharon Spencer, owner of LeShay's Salon in Irvine, CA. (see Sharon's contact info below) Sharon specializes in hair loss due to alopecia, cancer, stress, or other physiological ailment or issue. In today's conversation, Sharon and Kim talk about the story of Elisha and the widow from 2 Kings, chapter 4. Sharon mentions a book she's reading called Relational Intelligence: The People Skills You Need for the Life of Purpose You Want by Dr. Dharius Daniels. Sharon also shared her favorite quote: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” This quote is often attributed to Nelson Mandela but the actual author is Marianne Williamson. | Empower Your Life | 20 Sep 2024 | 00:41:10
Welcome to the first episode of Season Two! Empower Your Life is all about the amazing journey of transformation I experienced this last year. A journey that led me through loss, suffering, humility, and eventually coming face to face with my ego, and finally to rediscovering my soul and realizing my authentic self. It is a journey of falling from my old life to the inmost searching and suffering, then to an awakening and accepting, and finally to a cleansing and arising to my new empowered life.
| Make Today Matter | 27 Sep 2024 | 00:30:18 | |

| Dear Younger Self | 04 Oct 2024 | 00:28:57 | |
Has anyone ever asked you what you would say to your younger self? Someone asked me once a few years ago and I didn’t know what to say but I bluffed my way through it rather than to say, “I don’t know.” That ego for you! But it’s a question that has haunted me for years and I finally wrote down my thoughts in a letter format to my younger self. Today, I’m sharing the contents of that letter. May it inspire you to do the same.
| Forgiveness | 11 Oct 2024 | 01:09:25 | |
This is one of my favorite things to talk about - forgiveness. I think it’s because I wasn’t taught how to forgive; instead what was demonstrated was the silent treatment for days and then eventually everything blows over. But this isn’t healthy and it’s detrimental to relationships. Joining me today is author Paula Huston, who wrote a book called Forgiveness: Following Jesus into Radical Loving.
| Pay Attention to Your Life | 18 Oct 2024 | 00:25:27 | |
For years, I’ve been busy with work, family, and life. Days seemed to come and go with such haste that there was little time for inner reflection. And yet, our inner life has so much to say about who we really are and paying attention to our inner life is fundamental to operating from our essence and not our ego. In today’s episode, I hope to unpack this and to inspire listeners to take time out to listen to their inner being.
| A New Chapter | 25 Oct 2024 | 00:39:28 | |
A New Chapter…yes indeed…that’s what I’m talking about in this episode. So what does that mean anyway? A New Chapter…a new lease on life; a new beginning; a new stage; how about a new phase…well listen in to hear about the new chapter of my life.
| The Gift of Being Yourself | 01 Nov 2024 | 00:21:43 | |
Today is known as All Saints Day and is celebrated in many Christian Churches to honor all the saints of the church - both known and unknown. Thomas Merton wrote, “For me to be a saint means to be myself.” Let’s explore this today as we talk about the gift of being yourself.
| Seasons | 22 Dec 2023 | 00:35:44 | |
Join Kim as she shares the key "seasons" of her life. The inspiration for this episode comes from the biblical book of Ecclesiastes, chapter 3, verses 1-8. "For everything, there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to tear down, and a time to build. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance. A time to scatter, and a time to gather; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing. A time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away. A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to be silent, and a time to speak. A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace." What season of life are you in? These are just a few...name the seasons you've walked through. What have you learned? How have the seasons changed and transformed you? How have you grown?
| Kindness | 08 Nov 2024 | 00:29:19 | |
Wednesday, November 13, is designated as World Kindness Day! The world needs more kindness so I thought dedicating an episode to this topic might empower and inspire listeners to be especially kind this week. How can you pay it forward and bless someone’s day?
| The Spiritual Exercises | 15 Nov 2024 | 00:49:16 | |
I have spoken often about the Spiritual Exercises given to us by Ignatius of Loyola some 500 years ago. Ignatius would say that just as the physical body needs exercise so does our spiritual body - our soul - needs exercise. What does that mean? In this episode, I will introduce you to Ignatius and share an overview of the exercises for our soul and spiritual life.
| Seeing God in Everything | 22 Nov 2024 | 01:15:55 | |
Ignatius believed that God can be found in all things and in all people. One of the tenets of Ignatian spirituality is that we can encounter God at every moment of our existence. In this episode, I’ll be talking with a friend of mine, Sonja Stewart and how she encountered God in faraway places, in varying cultures, and in all people.
| Giving Thanks | 29 Nov 2024 | 00:18:16 | |
I usually begin to intentionally reflect on what I am thankful for over the last year once November arrives. As always, I have much to be grateful for...what about you? What are you giving thanks to God for this year? Join me for this short episode about giving thanks!
| How the Light Comes | 06 Dec 2024 | 00:20:56 | |
Advent seems to be a time when we are invited to intentionally focus on LIGHT - bringing light, being light, and praying for light to come - to the darkness of our world, and of our lives. Join me for a reflection on “how the light comes.” I’ll give you a hint…it comes through us.
| All I Want for Christmas | 13 Dec 2024 | 00:22:30 | |
We all know the iconic song by Mariah Carey, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” It plays several times each day as soon as Christmas songs begin playing on the radio. It’s on every Christmas playlist. But it begs the question…what do I want for Christmas? How about you? How would you complete the line, all I want for Christmas is…? Listen in to Kim’s reflection on all she wants for Christmas.
| It's Up to Us | 20 Dec 2024 | 00:19:35 | |
This episode was inspired by the quote from Thomas Merton, “Christ is born to us today in order that he may appear to the whole world through us.” Perhaps this is what Advent is all about…we arrive in this season tired, worn out, exhausted from the shenanigans of the world over the last year. And we’re looking for refuge, stillness, quiet, light, peace, joy, renewal, rest…why? Because the mission is not over. Yes, we may be weary but we can’t stop leaning into our God-given purpose to bring Christ to the world. It’s up to us.
| New Year, New Word | 27 Dec 2024 | 00:39:24 | |
New Year, New Word. Yes, this is sort of a repeat episode from last year…but I’m adding in new wisdom and noticings about 2024 and my word, “believe.” I’ll reveal my new word for 2025 and what I learned already and the hope of my growth in the new year. What is your word for 2025?
| Surrender | 03 Jan 2025 | 00:36:15 | |
Surrender…it’s not easy to surrender but it is necessary for our well-being…spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally. Today, I’m sharing my conversation with a young man named Carlos who was diagnosed with brain cancer. Carlos shares his insightful wisdom about surrendering and trusting in God’s promise to walk with us through the good and challenging times of life.
| Stillness | 10 Jan 2025 | 00:29:39 | |
Stillness is anti-cultural. Most of us are wired to go, go, go, and do, do, do, rest a little and then repeat. Stillness is how we unite with the Spirit of the Living God. Resting in and with the Spirit of God. In this episode, I’m sharing with you my practice of breathing prayer which brings me to a state of stillness or what I call coming soul to soul with the Divine.
| Growing Gratitude | 29 Dec 2023 | 00:56:56 | |
As we enter into a new year, it's a perfect time to reflect on what we are grateful for and how we can grow in gratitude. Gratitude inspires us to spread goodness in the world - it is the foundation of many of the virtues - kindness, patience, gentleness, compassion, and social justice. All things our world is desperately needing. Kim and Nuka Solomon, CEO of Free Wheelchair Mission talk about gratitude and how gratitude can be and should be continuous; that we are all truly grateful to the ultimate Giver of life and that we take what he has given us and we share that with the world...as others do the same...and from a deep humbling gratitude, we continue to give and receive. Gratitude has a rippling effect...and hopefully if done well without measuring how much we give versus how much we receive, perhaps everyone ends up with what they need. "Grace and gratitude belong together like heaven and earth...Gratitude follows grace like thunder and lightening." - Karl Barth, Church Dogmatics "The movement of grace toward gratitude brings us from the package of self-obsessed madness to a spiritual awakening. Gratitude is peace." - Anne Lamott Free Wheelchair Mission; freewheelchairmission.org You can find a QR Code and link to donate on our website.

| Empowering Freedom | 17 Jan 2025 | 00:24:46 | |
I picked this topic back in the summer when I couldn’t have known what would be going on in my life nor what is going on in our world. I’m not even sure, if I’m being truly honest, what the heck I was thinking about when Empower Freedom came to mind. What I do know is that these themes and topics are inspired on my heart by the Spirit of the Living God. Listen in to hear what Spirit has breathed into my soul and out through my words.
| Aging with Grace | 24 Jan 2025 | 00:29:41 | |
God has shown me what it looks like to age with grace. I’m doing my very best to lean into this and to embrace and share the wisdom I’ve gained. In this episode, I’m sharing a reflection of the insights God gave me even as God is still growing me in wisdom, age, and grace. Are you aging with grace?
| Growing in Wisdom | 31 Jan 2025 | 00:39:08 | |
Today, I’m talking about wisdom…growing in wisdom specifically. The scripture I quoted in the last episode from Luke 2, says that Jesus grew in age, wisdom, and grace. Just like Jesus, we too grow in age, wisdom, and grace. With all that’s going on in our world right now, we need wisdom.
| Wisdom Series: Teresa of Avila and Howard Thurman | 07 Feb 2025 | 00:39:02 | |
Welcome to my wisdom series…in the next four episodes, I’ll be sharing insights from several of my wisdom sages. What is a wisdom sage you may ask? For me, it’s the people whose insight and knowledge…their way of looking at God and the virtues of love, hope, and faith…teaches me in ways that expand my mind and my heart. They take me to a deeper place of thinking and to a place where God can grow wisdom within me.
