| Introducing Gone Cold – Texas True Crime | 04 Jul 2024 | 00:08:39 | |
Texas is known for being tough on crime and those who commit it. Or at least the ones who get caught. There are tens of thousands of unsolved homicides in Texas and nearly as many open missing persons cases. Every week, Gone Cold Podcast—Texas true crime—presents in-depth accounts of unsolved murders and missing persons cases throughout the lone star state, concentrating on lesser-known cases that the media has long left behind. Cases like the recently solved 1974 abduction and murder of Fort Worth High School student Carla Walker, the brazen 2019 murder of Liz Barraza, and the mysterious 1989 disappearance of 13-year-old Elisa Roberson, who seemingly vanished into thin air while she was walking a few blocks from home to meet a friend. On Gone Cold, you’ll also occasionally hear high-profile cases, such as an 8-episode series on the 1996 abduction and murder of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, the little girl behind the Amber Alert. This is a preview of Gone Cold’s coverage of the 2007 case of 19-year-old Brittany Danielle McGlone, who was viciously attacked and savagely slain in her boyfriend’s bed while the rest of the home’s inhabitants were away. As you’re listening, join Gone Cold’s mission to bring these forgotten cases back into the public’s awareness by subscribing to Gone Cold Podcast—Texas true crime wherever you listen to podcasts. https://www.GoneCold.com

Police quickly zeroed in on a neighbor who insisted he was innocent. But after 10 hours of coercive interrogation, he confessed. Six months later, when his DNA was not a match, police changed their theory of the crime. Now, instead of clearing the neighbor, they insisted he didn’t act alone. Over the next few months, police would claim up to 8 suspects had attacked Michelle. Four would actually be indicted. | 125: Final Confession: The Murder of Irene Garza | 07 Aug 2021 | 01:06:47
In 1960, 25 year old Irene Garza was raped and murdered in McAllen, Texas. The Mexican-American former beauty queen, was a devout catholic and a pillar of her community. She was last seen going to confession on Holy Saturday before Easter. The McAllen community was outraged and heartbroken and there was a massive investigation. And then the investigation quietly stopped. With no answers, the McAllen community could only rely on rumors. And rumor had it, a priest had murdered Irene and the catholic sheriff and the church had colluded to cover up the crime. In June of 1994, a car was found in a ditch on a deserted stretch of Little Mountain Road in Newberry, South Carolina. A woman was found slumped over the steering wheel. Though the road was in a rural area thick with woods and steep ravines, where accidents often happen, police immediately suspected foul play. The woman, named Vickie Lander Beckham, had horrific injuries to her face and neck that could not have come from such a minor accident. Soon law enforcement discovered that Vickie, a senator’s daughter, and her husband Stephen, son of an Episcopal Bishop, were in the middle of a divorce. The investigation became scandalous front page news with the powerful men in each family caught up in the drama. | 111: The Real Garden of Good and Evil | 18 Jan 2021 | 01:02:35
In 1994, a New York writer released a very southern gothic, non-fiction, crime novel. “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” became a national sensation. John Berendt’s seductive prose and his cast of eccentric characters drew readers into the lush culture of Savannah, Georgia. But the central plot was a scandal from 1981. Semi-closeted socialite, Jim Williams, had shot his lover dead in the study of his home. He went through four trials for the murder of Danny Hanson, a record in Georgia at the time. Berendt’s book became a movie in 1997, directed by Clint Eastwood. Many people don’t know the real story of the Mercer House murder. This is a look at the case, as well as the book and movie that captivated the nation.
