This week see’s us touch down within a star-date that reminds me that we are indeed reached the business Segway of this anthology series! 

You see this is the actual year that I cued up my first 12” or record to be factual!

 

And if this wasn’t  enough to get excited as I was invited like so many of us around this time to gain early access to the place where the big people did there thing or should I say thang…

Laying witness to how energy is created by the body was one thing ! witnessing first hand how thermo-nuclear kinetic energy was created between Ying n Yang was something else completely previously only being subjected to house parties (remember those] with elders Rump-Shaking to the Bump & the now  legendary Hustle or older siblings practicing their moves in front of the mirror before stepping out thankfully good old TOTPs and the Kenny Everett shows were on hand with Dancers teasing my young mind seductively through suggestive thrusts and poses indicating that there was more to Nite-life than I thought that I knew.

Little did I know the music that once sounded reminiscent to Disco was about evolve once more s the 1980s cranked up the wheels of fortune…Feeding this new found positivity to not only make the Dance-Floors shake your very skeleton with Bass but would make the very Planet Rock…

The Spirit of 76/7 Silver Jubilee

In and out of 70s Soul 

I have always silently thought that I was never previously able to quite portrait! My original intended objective in the creation of this very Unique Production,In  Particular due to listeners with very specific tastes in music would find this concept hard to digest with the merging of many genres of the Pop’ular and Soulful worlds unionised 

Whilst those with an expanded musical pallet of whom embrace an eclectic range of music understood my intensions! 

My yearning to demonstrate my own appreciation for all genres & artists mainly stems from my childhood, being exposed to mainstream music mainly due to over exposure through our then entertainment sector that was TV [tel-I-vision]!! And Radio our only forms of media back in these days...

I particularly noticed this in the 1970s being gravitated to music contributed further by being the perfect age to experience the best that this decade had to offer against all odds being deep within a global recession and all...All the hallmarks for great song writing.

At the perfect age of 10 in the year 1977 looking back now I was fortunate enough to experience the best the 1970s had to offer Spearheaded by none more than the explosion of toys from, Stretch Armstrong to Pogo sticks, Star Wars toys to Action Man (GI Joe, U.S), Playing outside with actual friends [Not Virtual] to Open air swimming, All of These magic moments growing up were made all the more memorable by a never ending soundtrack that was the world of popular music.

All artist back were then given a exposure to co-exist side by side to feed our taste of preference, Popularity & Progression was based on singles record sales, the more sold the higher you climbed the more notoriety you received.

In the United Kingdom no platform was more popular than the UK top forty served to us on Sundays on the wireless aka Radio where we would sit through the countdown…(No way to manipulate or Fast Forward) often enduring listening from 40-1 in the hope of hearing your favourite tracks hopeful progression. This one dimensional and only way of listening to the latest hits of the time gave us inadvertent access other genres and unwittingly gave many of us a future greater appreciation to absorb all forms of music, This format would later be challenged by the visually enticing Television shows like TOTPs [Top of the pops] Soul Train [US] and the Old grey whistle test for die hard enthusiasts,

We also Previously selected top hits on duke boxes in public or in our front room via radiograms designed for playing purchased Records of your personal taste in the comfort of your home.

The many memories I have are effectively synchronised to tracks released at the time of memory recording…It has always been a passion to recapture the very essence of the 1970s in such a way that captures the fabric of feel good often on display within an era of invitation, Creativity and musicality seldom seen today, Those really were the days…Fast forward to today,

This rare double bank Holiday weekend I would like to transport you back to the relive the music magnificence that resided around the silver jubilee we experienced back in 77, and if by chance you are around my age… every single hit Record has been chosen personally with 20 from the popular charts alongside 20 from the Sweet rhythms chart that broke through being to good to contain,

If rumour be believed there was a secret code embedded within the lyrics of Disco for all to embrace...If you were indeed within the  Soul-Space to receive its transmittion across the Dance-Floors of the 1970s it read that... After disco's demise [by namesake only] and out of the Oppression and depression of the turn of this new 80s decade, the dance music community once more emerging with a new found enhanced sound filled with pride but was that enough to cut through the barriers!  It was only time that hope would once more materialise in the guise of a wordsmith from the streets who would lay out a stark reality of just how it is if you seek fame and lay claim to riches without gain... A Message which stands tall as a warning for all to this very day Profit or Poet!

The Signature sounds of the 1970s Underground of which bore seeds to cultivate the very essence of Soul, Harvested from Blues & Jazz syphoned through influential  Funk cultivated out the oppression and Greater depression of this time was to become a beacon of hope as no matter what situation you were in be it financially or the like's you could guarantee the Uplifting ,Suggestive and often relatable Lyrics were all you needed to be transported to within a safe space where nothing outside either Harmful or Detrimental to your state of mind would or could harm!

This place later became too infectious to contain as it served as a beacon of light and hope for all who Sought her confines and promise of warmth embrace & Sanctuary… We once knew this hallowed confined space as a DANCE-FLOOR.

This relatable hallmark Sound was used as the template of Disco & later Dance 80s morphing and being experimented on numerous times throughout the eighties to feed the forever changing demands of Producers and DJs to feed their quest for uniqueness and Fame.

The near eradication of Soul Musics dominance was nearly achieved as recording artists and their outdated melodies found contracts, Record distributions and an audience for their crafts dwindled as many sought the High octane sounds which many rode along to fuelled by an Un-natural high! 

Not Me! I never stopped Soul Searching as Many in the game replaced their once cherished Records for CDs [Compact Disc’s] Downloads using inauthentic Tech that may hold data! But not the memories.

My Venue’s & Gigs reduced during this Un-Soulful period! But never died! And then as the new Decade turned… So did our fortunes.

A Resistance emerged once more! This time from the Underworld of the UK.

Armed with an array of Respected Army of influential Musicians Producers Disc Jockeys and record Labels/Stores with a rich history through the Origins of Jazz, The Mysticism of Blues of Funk, and yearning for the Sweetness of Mother Embrace Acid Jazz was born… My adoption of this Revived sound was without compromise, With all forms released on record Media, My fire was re-ignited and fuelled many of our Legendary NightSpots for so many of the 90s glory years.

As we welcome the Solar ray’s as Sunshine makes a return this weekend over many parts of the UK, And a perfect backdrop for Aprils 23 Years Broadcasting Soul A.M Records,

I guess that I am pushing my own narrative this week! As I originally scheduled a warm return of Musical freedom a show that gives permission to be able to literally play whatever I like! Against the conformity of producing themed shows. And then this happened…  I step into the Studio with albums still in my mind from the previous evening where I had enjoyed 5-6 hour assault into the wee hours of Music videos courtesy of Top Pop,  Add Super-fine company of Wray & his Nephew…Ohh Yes. Then it hit me… It was time to rewind our minds to reignite an old friend from Decades past. The details lye inside for you to enjoy Simply press play and you’re away. Enjoy.

 

Being able to investigate my very own records  on a weekly basis is quite rewarding especially when we are able to re-revive productions for all to share and enjoy unfiltered Joy. 

Now! Navigating Albums is a whole new ballgame altogether as we prepare to reintroduce you to not only the true DNA of the these artists lost in music time but they’re very musicalility & ethos of which will unlock their Beauty to make you smile whatever your mood from the inside out.

 

I am consistently astonished just how many tracks that were previously overlooked in their day! Tucked away on LPs unreleased or unselected by the labels for airplay which now more appealing to my Modern Soul Senses to fill the expanding void where feel-good melodies once resided… Just maybe! we were spoilt for choice.

Today this is Good news for the artists, And even better news for you as I am able to unlock these Gems for us all to enjoy Crackles pops and all…

Oh I so enjoyed creating this Production, Dedicated to my Mother for bringing us up to a never ending Soundtrack to appreciate all Artists and music, and Based upon an original concept conceived a decade now in our past, This festival created towards unlocking the very fabric of dance music once hyped through raw beats & generated to unleash a truly funky sensation. Produced with four to the floor heart beats by the studio's biggest and brightest of which has stood tall through the annals of time.

An opressed institution unrecognised by the mainstream unwittingly unlocked the very DNA from Mother Soul herself, laced within Hope in The very hope of breaking down the stigma’s associated with the Sounds of the 1970s Underground. Prepare yourselves for receiving "The Message" translated that Love is Indeed the Message! With only a chosen few knowing! It always has been.

This is an Invitation to everyone to open your minds, Body & Soul to receive this Rhythmic Frequency of undiluted feel good! Best clear some space and prepare to embrace the true Essence of My Dance, as I present to you…THE HUSTLE.

Music lovers rejoice as we once again lock you in, to take control of Mind body & Soul, This weeks excursion is 101% uncut! As I present to you a production designed to serve you the next level of feel good. This weeks heart warming and original ensemble of melodies comes not from tracks not only green-lit for A-Side selection, But from the Alternate mixes that either reside on the B-Sides or are creations of un-promoted mixes by production teams and remixers of whom where often gifted the freedom to express themselves lacing their productions with the smoking beats and tempo’s of our streets. Receiving so much applause for its purity and innocence of which seemed to have served its user...So Right?? was Pleasing to hear!

So Much so in fact! This Soul A.M Sunday I continue our seasonal month of free-styling our way throughout January which takes us this week behind the Soul scene of 1983, A year in which my record collection proves to me that this star-date is not just a pre-curser to the mammoth year that almost wasn’t [due to a Cold War] 1984.

Within this fab decade of dance our artists continued to evolve by conjuring its own signature sounds since descending from 70s Disco.

Music is the answer…it always has been! 

This is the reason why! They have consistently hijacked our sounds since the 1970s starting with the Ghetto Grooves crafted by the Brothers n Sisters of the heavily oppressed U,S of A which subsequently evolved into DISCO only to be infiltrated at its peek! Saturating our Uplifting tribalesque sounds…towards commercial monotonous Doom. 

In the 80s, The emerging power that was StreetSoul was again Admired, Quickly Infiltrated and subsequently diluted again solely for corporation's greed! This time offering tactic’s towards quicker fortunes & fame, Previously limited to the chosen! Released on labels which remain Unnamed. This act prevented the Natural healing & Spiritual unification seldom experienced outside the confines of the Underground, But the Soul is powerful! Unable to be contained, our raw Sounds posed an unintentionally yet influential threat to the whole music industry! So like before! Dilution measures were implemented to dampen down Artists and Label progression!!! However! Conflicts in interests caused a road block...? Forcing our Sound back Underground morphing once again  this time with venom...potent as Acid.

And then came the 90s creative musical minds unwittingly crafted the future sounds of Dance, Unleashing the true Devotion to the sounds of Souls past evolved and elevated into Warehouse's through the Garage's and into our...House

And they said! "It will never last"

This New Year's Eve from 11:PM I invite you to put aside all differences, PLAY this Anthem Mix Recorded in Free-Style On Reel Records for Reel People on a Soul-Unique frequency of Undiluted feel good.
