Be in no doubt: Twitter is still capable of lovely moments.
When sports apprenticeship tutor Andrew Ruscoe suddenly lost his job a couple of weeks ago, he was inspired by the story of Ryan Reynolds and local club Wrexham to use the social media platform for good.
His self-shot video asking for help with finding work has attracted over a million views - and he's been floored by the positive response to it.
We chat to him about a turbulent couple of weeks for him.

07 Oct 2023
00:26:32
Fans of Taylor Swift have been getting millions of views for their posts about her relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce, including a fan account getting over 30 million views for eating some chicken with 'seemingly ranch' sauce.
It's also been a week of candid sharing, from a Conservative Party supporter revealing he was dumped for his political allegiance, a police officer confronted over dropping sandwich crusts and a content creator finding levity after the death of his mum.

Generosity and jokes: we uncover the enjoyable side of social media
01 Oct 2023
00:26:39
Social media can be a lot of doom and gloom, but this week has shown its enjoyable side.
Take for example, the kind hearted locals in Preston to a large group of kids when a train is cancelled at night and the local woman who reunites a man with his much-loved walking stick left on a station platform.
Or how Kiefer Sutherland's generosity helped a waitress pay her month's rent and TikTok star Brandon Sloane buying gifts for an entertaining child in a store.
And we also hear from the TikTok star Isodope who's making her love of nuclear power go viral.

The special bond between parents & children - and when it's exploited for views
24 Sep 2023
00:23:34
There's nothing like the love shared by a parent with their children. We adore seeing videos that celebrate this relationship - and many go viral.
Take the story of single mum Monique Meza whose TikTok of her son Jiovanni Herrera dressing up as her for fun got millions of views.
Or the dad of Chopsy, the five year old Sheffield United fan whose away day video of her with him captured the hearts of the football community.
But sadly, some parents have been accused of exploiting their children for views, like content creator Jordan Cheyenne, who told her son to cry more when filming their reaction to their pet dog being diagnosed with a serious illness.
We also update you on the Love Surge couple, after Liliana White went viral again for a tearful video highlighting the appalling abuse she received online.
On a happier note, we celebrate the phenomenon of Tube Girl, Sabrina Bahsoon, whose dancing videos have led to her starring at London Fashion Week - but in the case of @TurnItToni, it's hard to pull off the perfect TikTok on the London Underground...

14 Sep 2023
00:20:34
A common theme of love and loss emerged on this week's show.
From the divisive Love Surge and why Stephen King was threatened with divorce over Mambo No5, to losing your late husband's wedding ring, a date stealing your $1,000 shoes, or leaving your prized violin on the bus before the Proms.
Also, the mysterious tale of the haunted painting that raised hundreds of pounds for a Hastings charity and why we stan the BBC's Maryam Moshiri.

Fun with fakery: the good, the bad and the outright lies
02 Sep 2023
00:30:57
Sometimes some things look too good to be true, like Liverpool manager sshing back the Newcastle assistant Jason Tindall; or too bad to be real, like Donald Trump claiming he's the same weight as US sportstars; or until you look closely, you realise how funny the fakery is, like pop star Dua Lipa pretending to grill prawns on a BBQ...
All these stories are covered this week, including two viral videos of amazing fatherly moments: introducing your child to their newborn sibling and standing in a car park in the pouring rain so your daughter can listen to Taylor Swift (with a lovely heartwarming chat with the dad, Dan)

Candid confessions: why oversharing is good for going viral
26 Aug 2023
00:27:15
This week's show is about candid confessions - why oversharing and sombre selfie videos do well online.
From the TikTok actor Lewis Saunderson clarifying his dramatic videos about personal tragedies, to 'Crazy Plane Lady' Tiffany Gomes not really explaining what went on in that viral video - and the saucier side, from the wife detailing why her husband isn't allowed to watch nude scenes in Oppenheimer to the precise measurements of tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson's erections online.
There's also a great story of the power of community, with football fans rallying round to help Norwich fan Nathan West after he was targeted by nasty trolls. And talking of community - the most hilarious Twitter Community Notes.
And finally, how the horror film community still supported a teenage TikToker when she revealed her fake film, Zepotha, was a ruse to publicise her new album.

From Hancock to Europop to dance remixes that mock
15 Aug 2023
00:23:11
TikTok started out all about music, so it's no surprise that it still continues to produce viral gold: from former health secretary Matt Hancock lip syncing to Barbie songs, to DJs showing a quizzical creator exactly what they do, to the Europop parody that's rather good.
There's also a sad story about how a very talented black female musician's Proms moment was spoilt by a racist tweet.
All that and much more on this week's show: enjoy listening!

From curves to Fringes: why these women went viral
05 Aug 2023
00:21:43
We know that sex sells online, but these videos of women's bodies went viral this week for different reasons: one, of plus size catwalk model Marissa Dubois, the other for a male audience member caught ogling Maya Jama's behind on the live final of Love Island.
One women who wasn't attracting an audience was Georgie Grier. She went viral for her post of a tearful photo, revealing how only one person came to her one woman play at Edinburgh Fringe - but Twitter then showed how it can still be a force for good.
Also on the show: a Japanese canine cosplayer, celebrating the awkward ways to take a photo of a mirror and seeing how long it takes bottles to smash on a staircase.

How the Titanic sub tragedy, an OAP YouTuber and a generous gardener show the best and worst in people online
25 Jun 2023
00:27:24
We've not seen a tragedy being played out in real time on social media that's been subjected to such mocking and criticism as the five victims of the Titanic sub - and one stepson in particular.
Musical Twitter seemed to lose its head this week with scrutinising the backgrounds of new rock group, Picture Parlour, for being featured by NME.com.
While some Reddit users had to be told to keep their comments civil in a row over whether a person with joint issues or a pregnant woman deserved a chair more.
But we've also seen some of the best of humanity on social media, from the rush of support to help a vlogging camping Scottish pensioner go from zero views to half a million followers on YouTube and TikTok and an Aussie gardener who clears overgrown gardens for free.
And lots of fun chat about why an Oldham service station and talking about taking out the bins have both gone viral.

Beige flags: how men behaved on a date, at their wedding or at their partner's labour went viral
10 Jun 2023
00:30:01
There's a new term about dating: beige flags. It refers to behaviour that is a bit strange, weird, or annoying, but not red flag material that you would want to split up with them.
Coincidentally, there were several examples of this in the past few days. From a boyfriend collecting his own dishes from the restaurant kitchen to the groom texting moments after he got married.
But one was more of a joke that got out of control, is the feature of What It's Like To Go Viral. Amber Tilley is a TikToker who posted a short video of her football-obsessed partner watching a game while she was in labour - but she was forced to hit back at critics who went too far in their comments.
But she also using her big following to provide candid moments of motherhood in her early 20s: the good, the tough and the wonderfully touching moments.
Also on the show, we talk about the positive sides to technology: using Chat GPT to create a catchy chant for Liverpool's new signing, Alexis Mac Allister, and utilising the power of social media to help Twitch streamers with moving stories, like UglyMoo4510.

03 Jun 2023

In What It's Like To Go Viral, we talk to Travis Orndorff, the son of the famous WWF and WCW wrestler 'Mr Wonderful' Paul Orndorff, on how running tribute social media accounts has helped him with memories of his late dad and reconciled with wrestling fans he once hated for "taking my father from me".
In What's Gone Viral, we chat about the daughter who went viral after her Everton-supporting mum told a TV crew she loved the club more than her children and the amazing moments of a newborn baby.
And in our Timeline Cleanser, the mother who helped her Disney-obsessed girl, who was dressed as Polochon from The Little Mermaid, meet her best friend Ariel at EuroDisney.
Plus why you shouldn't sing out of tune at Beyonce, the Secret Tory unmasked and thinking before tweeting BBC Breakfast presenter Nina Warhurst.

Don't boycott post offices over IT scandal and a dying man pleads 'be kind online'
14 Jan 2024
00:26:51
Social media has been dominated by the Post Office Horizon IT scandal.
Some have vowed to boycott their local branches in protest, but subpostmaster and TikTok star Juliet Thomas Davies, of Anne Street branch in Llanelli, went viral after asking people to support their local post office now more than ever.
We were also moved by the Twitter plea from John Woodward, who's got 6 months left to live after being diagnosed with brain cancer, asking fellow users to "be more supportive of each other instead of hurling abuse which passes as debate".
Also on the show is the hilarious rant over Quality Street changing their wrappers, the drunk mum asking for a lift home from her kids, a 65-year-old dartboard and the man who foolishly thought he could beat a 400m athlete.
