| EP57: The Human Factor: Power, Responsibility & Proximity to Conflict | Sajeda Shawa | 01 Sep 2026 | 00:58:12 | |
In this episode, we sit down with Sajeda Shawa, Head of OCHA in the UAE, to talk about what it actually takes to carry humanitarian responsibility without becoming numb to it.
We go behind the headlines and into the machinery most people never see — the coordination, the negotiation, the seven hours it can take to get aid onto a plane, and the hundreds of people working around the clock to make that possible.
We talk about the role Dubai Humanitarian plays as the world's largest logistics hub, how crises get prioritized when funding falls short, and why Sajeda believes there's no such thing as life-work balance, only prioritization and a support system. We also trace her path back to her mother and father, and what it means to inherit a sense of duty rather than choose it.
This is a conversation about proximity to crisis, objectivity, and what it means to act instead of scroll past.
We hope you find something to consider.
| EP56: What Makes Home Home? Design, Identity & Belonging with Meshary AlNassar | 22 Jun 2026 | 00:53:16 | |
In this episode of Something to Consider, we sit down with Kuwaiti interior designer and founder Meshary, whose story-led approach to space and design has gained recognition across the region. But this conversation is not only about design. It is about the search for self in the space between expectation and alignment. It is about growing up feeling misunderstood, choosing a path that was not always understood, building a creative business, leaving home and carrying it with you while trying to grow somewhere else. Together, we talk about family, sacrifice, Arab identity, Kuwaiti hospitality, creative ambition, gatekeeping in the design industry, the emotional cost of building something of your own, and what it means to create work that reflects who you are, not just what looks beautiful. At its heart, this is a conversation about home, belonging, and the courage it takes to design a life that actually feels like yours. We hope you find something to consider. Aleena Khan is the co-founder of CTZN Cosmetics, a homegrown beauty brand she built alongside her sisters that has since scaled into the US market — one of the most competitive beauty markets in the world. But this conversation goes far beyond lipstick.
We talk about growing up in a multigenerational matriarchal household in LA and Dubai, what it actually looks like to build a business with family (the romanticised version vs. the reality), and why CTZN chose to tackle inclusivity in a category everyone else overlooked: nude lipsticks.
Aleena also shares how she built Full Disclosure, a podcast and founders community designed around growth and genuine connection, and the intentional strategy behind every single move she made to build it.
This is a conversation about observation, patience, and building things that actually mean something.
We hope you will find something to consider.

| EP49: Beyond Followers | The Economics of Community with Sultan bin Rashed Al Darmaki | 16 Feb 2026 | 00:54:24 | |
We talk about community constantly. Build it. Grow it. Scale it.
But what happens when we stop treating community as an audience… and start treating it as infrastructure?
In this episode, I sit down with Sultan Bin Rashed Al Darmaki, founder of 1833, a platform redefining what creative community looks like in the region. This isn’t a conversation about clout. It’s about contribution.
We explore the scarcity mindset in the creative industry, why collaboration still feels difficult in fast-growing cities, and what it takes to build a space rooted in trust rather than transaction. From tribal identity and cultural confidence to policy influence and creative infrastructure, we unpack what community actually costs and what it’s truly worth.
If attention was yesterday’s currency, community may be tomorrow’s power. And the question becomes:
Are we building audiences… or ecosystems? We hope you will find something to consider.

Trigger Warning:This conversation touches on sensitive topics including incarceration, trauma, sexual violence, and mental health. Please take care while listening.
In this different and deeply sensitive episode of Something to Consider, we open space for an honest conversation about punishment, justice, and what reform truly means.
Our guest, Zeina Daccache, is a drama therapist and social activist whose groundbreaking work brought theatre into Lebanese prisons transforming art into a tool for understanding, accountability, and real systemic change.
This episode is not about justifying crime. It is about questioning the systems that fail people long before the crime occurs. It is about empathy without denial, accountability without dehumanization, and justice that asks whether punishment alone is enough.
We discuss incarceration, trauma, rehabilitation, collective pain, and the invisible prisons many of us live in every day.
A powerful Arabic-language conversation for those willing to sit with discomfort and reflect on what justice truly requires.

We talk about the long road to creative courage, the cost of choosing yourself, the role of joy amid intergenerational trauma, and what it means to stop running and start sustaining a life that feels aligned.
This is a conversation about writing as remembrance, storytelling as resistance, and belonging as something we may have to invent for ourselves. We hope you will find something to consider.

What happens when the body breaks before the mind can make sense of it?

Joel shares how healing reshaped his approach to leadership, why prevention matters more than reaction, and what it means to empower people rather than manage them.

| EP42: Your First Brain Isn’t in Your Head | The Gut–Life Connection | 26 Oct 2025 | 00:52:45 | |
What if your first brain isn’t in your head?
In this episode, founder, mother, and coach Hadil shares how a high-velocity corporate life, postpartum depletion, and an “undiagnosed” health spiral pushed her to rebuild her habits around ancestral nutrition and gut health. We talk microbiome 101, the gut–brain axis, why minerals matter more than most blood tests show, and the real difference between stock and long-simmered bone broth.
We explore saying no as a growth strategy, the tension between integrity and scale, and why doing less—on purpose—can still mean doing something great. If you’ve felt unheard in conventional care, or you’re craving a more intuitive, agency-driven approach to wellness, this conversation is a reset: slow down, listen to the whispers before they become screams, and remember that food is your first form of self-care. We hope you will find something to consider.

| EP41: Billion-Dollar Lessons | Bilal Ballout on Purpose Beyond Profit | 13 Oct 2025 | 00:53:45 | |
What happens when the goal you’ve spent your life chasing is finally behind you? In this intimate and reflective episode of Something to Consider, entrepreneur Bilal Ballout — co-founder of BMB Group, the company behind some of the region’s most beloved confectionery brands — joins host Dana Alhanbali to explore the quiet after the exit: identity, integrity, and the freedom to rebuild on your own terms. From bootstrapping with AED 500K to scaling globally and exiting in 2021, Bilal shares what most founders don’t talk about — the emotional cost of success, letting go of your “baby,” and redefining self-worth when your name is no longer on the door. Key Takeaways: - The 12-Month Rule of post-acquisition: why most founders should transition out within a year. - Knowledge over capital: how deep research and local adaptation built a global baklava brand in Walmart and 30+ countries. - Resilience over luck: how a tough childhood built the emotional muscle for entrepreneurship. - Culture over cash: why team belief and small daily wins sustain growth. - From performance to presence: moving beyond “fake it till you make it.” - Financial independence = freedom of choice: how autonomy changes what success means. - Closure is a choice: learning to let go of companies, relationships, and old selves with intention. - Communication and respect: the two non-negotiables that make relationships (and partnerships) work. Redefining success: purpose, sustainability, and balance over scale and ego. If you’re a builder, creator, or founder reflecting on what comes after achievement, this episode will shift your perspective on ambition, balance, and fulfillment. | EP38: Underestimated Strength and Why Purpose Outlasts Hype | Rama Kayyali | 21 Sep 2025 | 00:47:01
This episode of Something to Consider explores the underestimated strength behind a founder’s journey. Rama Kayyali, co-founder of Little Thinking Minds, transformed a small idea into a platform reaching half a million students across the Arab world. Along the way came setbacks, pivots, and the quiet fight to preserve language and identity in classrooms that often overlooked their worth.
It is a reminder that failure can shape us more than success — and that the strength we tend to overlook in ourselves often becomes the most powerful. I hope you will find something to consider.

| EP37: Why Honesty Beats Accuracy in Film | Mohamed El Zayat | 14 Sep 2025 | 00:52:46 | |
What if the power of film isn’t in getting every detail “right,” but in capturing something deeper—an honesty you can feel? In this episode, we sit down with Mohamed El Zayat, an internationally acclaimed director whose work blurs the lines between advertising, storytelling, and art. From People of Egypt to Lonesome Traveler, Mohamed’s films refuse to flatten people into categories. Instead, he draws on the discipline of communication, the playfulness of surreal flourishes, and the intimacy of lived experience to ask us not just to watch—but to truly see. In our conversation, we talk about what it means to move from persuasion to meaning, how stories rooted in one place often become universal, and why being “in-between” identities can be both a weight and a gift. We also explore the role of whimsy and exaggeration in revealing truths that realism alone can’t hold. If you’ve ever wondered what storytelling is really for—or why some images stay with us long after the credits roll—this episode offers you something to consider. | EP36: Why Biohacking Won’t Save You | Dr Elie AbiRached | 24 Jun 2025 | 00:59:51
What if true longevity isn’t about hitting a magic number—like 120 years—but about feeling your best right now? In this candid conversation with Dr. Elie AbiRached, a longevity expert and biohacker with a PhD in functional health, we challenge mainstream ideas around aging, wellness, and what it really means to live well. Dr. Elie dismantles the hype around biohacking and reveals one vital truth: optimal living isn’t found in shortcuts—it’s found in balance, recovery, and a deeper understanding of your own biology. | EP34: Beyond the Mirror | Body Image, Shame & Self-Trust | 26 May 2025 | 00:55:17
In this episode of Something to Consider, we sit down with Arwa Al-Turkait—intuitive eating coach and certified eating disorder recovery coach—to explore the complex relationship we have with food, the voices we internalize, and the quiet courage it takes to heal. This isn’t just a conversation about eating. It’s a conversation about control, shame, and the invisible rules that shape how we see ourselves—especially in cultures where worth is often tied to body image and discipline is mistaken for wellness. Arwa opens up about her personal journey, the lies sold by diet culture, and the daily work of building body trust. We speak about intuitive eating as a framework for living with more flexibility, more awareness, and more self-respect—not just in how we eat, but in how we show up in our lives. We unpack the idea of food as memory, the pressure of appearance, and the emotional weight of unspoken expectations—within ourselves and within our families. Most importantly, Arwa reminds us that recovery isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present. And sometimes, the most radical act of self-love is learning to listen to your hunger without judgment. If you’ve ever felt at war with your body, or if you’re unlearning what you were taught about food, beauty, and discipline—this episode offers a powerful reframe. We hope you’ll find something to consider. We explore fatherhood beyond provision, the danger of legacy-driven parenting, and the long-term impact of disrespect on a child’s psychological safety. Through it all, Riham reminds us that parenting is a skill—one rooted in presence, empathy, and unlearning what no longer serves us. If you’re a parent, a future parent, or someone reckoning with your own upbringing, this episode offers a gentle, powerful reframe. We hope you’ll find something to consider. | E15: Palestine | 29 Dec 2023 | 00:30:19
While I didn't expect to end the year or start the next season of Something to Consider under circumstances as heartbreaking as the ones that the last three months of 2023 have brought to Palestine, I am a strong believer in speaking up for injustice. And in the case of Palestine, it is not just a matter of urgency but a necessity to do so and to continue to do so until the day we see a free and liberated Palestine.

| E14: Liberated | 26 Jun 2023 | 00:29:55 | |
In the final episode of the first season of Something to Consider, this is a story about liberation. My own, that is. Liberation in a sense of embracing transformative parts of your life that are meant to shake you to your core. This is perhaps the most personal of the episodes I have published so far, and I hope you will find something to consider. In a follow up to the episode on burnout, I share my struggle with maintaining my physical health and what happened as a result of me not listening to my own body. While the impact of my experiences were reason enough for me to take a step back and decide what I wanted to change about my life, I also discuss the power that comes as a result of transformation. Whether it was the physical or mental limitations that held me back, it was my new found energy, self-confidence and appreciation of life that has transformed me the most. If you come away with anything from this episode I hope it is that no matter how dark your own internal struggle may seem, you are not alone.Connect with the Host:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dalhanbali/LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/danaalhanbaliTwitter: https://twitter.com/DanaAlhanbaliTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@danaalhanbaliYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@danaalhanbali5621/about
| E13: Grit and Grace | 19 Jun 2023 | 00:21:47 | |
What does it mean to have Grit and Grace? Why are these two characteristics often used to describe women and what they should project in the business world? Are they attainable qualities? Or is it a call to embrace the extraordinary within ourselves? In this episode we explore how grit plays a crucial role in personal and professional growth. We also challenge what it means to possess grace, and how a quality that is so closely linked to resilience intertwines with ones own drive to persevere at all costs. Can these qualities empower you to navigate lifes complexities with determination, compassion, and an unwavering spirit? We hope you will find something to consider. | E12: Stand for Original | 12 Jun 2023 | 00:23:44
This weeks episode is inspired from a comment I received on social media around the idea of how to manage authenticity in a sea of sameness. And while the question was framed around the ill-intention of lazy peers, I think the root of the concern stems from a deeper sense of scarcity that is worth exploring. Authenticity is a pursuit just as much as it is a state of being. But how does one build endurance in maintaining authenticity in an environment that isn't always ethical? I share some of the lessons that came from reflecting on these very questions, and I hope you will find something to consider. | E11: Breaking the Rules | 05 Jun 2023 | 01:04:50

| E10: In Pursuit of Presence | 29 May 2023 | 00:20:21 | |
We are programed to be in constant pursuit. Pursuit of education, jobs, marriage, family, houses, money, growth, and the list goes on. And while we can argue that pursuit drives or even provides us with a sense or purpose, or that it fuels ambition, I wonder why we aren't always vocal about another result of the practice. Something that we only think about in the privacy of our own mind. Do you know what question I am referring to? And it is a question, that in fact is sometimes a necessary push into introspection that we brush off too fast because to ask the question is to force ourselves to come face to face with one of the most difficult practices we collectively have yet to master. And that is presence. We may not agree on this one, but I hope you will find something to consider as we look at the ideas of time, pursuit and presence in this weeks episode. | E09: To Love | 22 May 2023 | 00:47:34
When thinking of love, many may refer to that famous line made famous by the movie Moulin Rouge, "The greatest thing you will ever learn, is to love and be loved in return." But is it? Is that it? What exactly constitutes as love? What does it mean to be loved? Is true love meant to be selfless or is love selfish? These are the questions that open up the gateway to an exploration of love from a philosophical perspective in this week's podcast episode. Drawing from the wisdom of ancient philosophers like Plato and Aristotle, we examine notions of love as a force that brings about personal growth and connection between individuals. In our quest for understanding, we challenge listeners to contemplate their own experiences with love and to critically examine their preconceptions. By delving into the philosophical exploration of love, we seek to unravel its mysteries and shed light on this intricate, essential, and often precarious endeavor that humanity holds in such high regard. We are joined by Leopold Ajami, a creative by nature and philosopher by degree. Leopold is a renowned public speaker and founder of the Novel Philosophy Academy, a philosophy driven academy for creative thinkers. He is also the co-host of a podcast show called Ideas on Trial designed to confront "undisputed, yet culturally accepted" ideas that aren't being questioned. | E08: Breaking the Cycle | 15 May 2023 | 00:51:24
Do we ever really get over trauma? What even qualifies as trauma? How much of it is real and how much of it is just thoughts in our head? Do we have control over our emotions? CBT, EMDR, what does it all mean and what is the difference? These are just a few of the questions we explore in this episode on unpacking trauma and the importance of reprocessing emotions. We hope that you will find something to consider. Dr. Fabian Saarloos a Dutch board certified clinical psychologist, who also happens to speak Arabic, joins us on this weeks episode about breaking the cycles of trauma. Dr. Fabian is based in Dubai and specializes in clinical and health psychology with a focus on the integration of Arab and Muslim culture in clinical psychology. He works with patients with various types of trauma, adjustment disorders, intercultural problems, mood disorders and relationships. And he is a specialist in EMDR.
