Getting employees up to speed with Alexis Kingsbury10 Oct 202200:32:19

Alexis is an award-winning entrepreneur, with over 10 years of experience, currently running two SaaS businesses (AirManual and Spidergap) with remote & global teams, and supports others as a board member or consultant including well known companies like Sony PlayStation.

Over the last 15 years, Alexis has worked with hundreds of business leaders to save them 1,000s of hours of their time each year, help them work more effectively, and unlock their business’ growth. As a speaker and guest, he has been sharing his findings, and it’s had a huge impact on many businesses.

For example, Alexis won the ‘Most valued content’ award in 2021 for his workshop at Dan Bradbury’s Success Mastermind (a community of 60+ small business owners), which led to over 30 business owners adopting the tools and processes recommended.

Alexis is a husband, and dad of two, and is passionate about balancing work alongside family life (and makes sure his team does too!) He also enjoys craft beer, whisky, skiing, skateboarding, dancing, gaming, golf, touch rugby and squash.

Saucy! How a networking breakfast led to a new business04 Apr 202200:19:25

Michael was born and raised in South Africa and emigrated to the UK on a business startup visa.

Michael has been involved in all types of printing and branding for the last 25 years, having owned his own printing business for the majority of that time.

His branding business in South Africa, Black Peppa, was a member of the local BNI chapter.

It was at a BNI chapter meeting one morning that a lightbulb moment happened during an unexpected random incident. This led to the creation of an industry disrupting innovation that saw him get a spot of the South African version of Dragon’s Den, The Shark Tank.

Following the great exposure of the Shark Tank, Michael was invited to become a member of the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship. This was a phenomenal opportunity to be mentored and to have expert assistance in getting the new concept to market.

Michael later on pitched for finance at various pitching platforms and ended up on the pitching stage of the World Cup of start-ups where he came third in the SA finals. The winner went on to pitch in Silicone Valley in the US and win $100 000.

The new concept, The Saucy Printing Co. Which is a service that provides live printing onto plates in chocolate sauce took off in the corporate events industry and provided a niche touch to weddings as well.

Having moved to the UK, Michael is currently getting the business off the ground and gaining traction for this world first, fun and innovative product. The business is set up in Cambridge and making the most of being in a city dwarfed by the many colleges that make up the University of Cambridge.

This ideal location presents many opportunities within the 33 colleges as well the various hotels, conference centers and networking events.

Michael has once again joined BNI and belongs to the Fitzwilliam chapter in Cambridge.

The business is growing from strength to strength and it looks to be able to franchise in late 2023.

We Are In Business - interview with Tracey Earl14 Mar 202200:21:08

After running our own businesses for many years, Ian and I realised that being a business owner can be a lonely place at times. People often start a business because they are good at what they do, but running a business requires additional skills that you don't necessarily have. So, we created We Are In Business, a networking and business support community. It was our desire to help business owners build a support network around them and gain some knowledge on the different aspects of running a business.

From Virology to Networking - an interview with Stuart Webb31 Jan 202200:22:08

I work in all aspects of sales & marketing and financial management, mentoring CEOs and directors to grow and manage their teams, commercialising new products and turning around struggling businesses and projects, particularly those very competent technical business people who want to be better commercially.

I love the excitement of innovation and bringing new businesses to life using all the disciplines I learned as a scientist - and the business tools, techniques and templates I have developed since to ensure business growth.

My early background as a scientist is very different to most in this field and it gave me the foundations which have underpinned consistent success regardless of the type of business I’m supporting. A vital discipline for a scientist is ensuring work is repeatable (the basis of all scientific research) - this has given me a uniquely-proven approach to embed robust thinking and unbreakable formulas as the foundations for business growth. And it works!

Meditation, Garden Benches and Networking!10 Jun 202400:35:13

Camilla is a Vedic Meditation expert, based in Kent, UK

Camilla trained as a primary school teacher in 2000 and learnt to meditate when she was an Assistant Headteacher in an inner city London school.

After meditating, she worked as a gardening teacher in the Eden Project, a chef and cooking teacher in Sydney and then returned to the UK to live in the family home, Owletts, a National Trust property.

She recently left the class room and, armed with Sanskrit GCSE (grade A!) she began teaching adults - how to read and write Sanskrit (the Devanagari Script).

She runs cacao ceremonies and wellbeing retreats in Kent and Gloucestershire.

Meditation is still her favourite thing to teach.

She trained in India in 2014 with Thom Knoles, and currently supports advanced meditators across Europe preparing for teacher training.

She is Director of Herbert Baker Furniture and co-founder of Lost Crafts CIC - supporting arts and crafts and wellbeing for Neurdiverse families.

She lives with her son and 2 dogs at Owletts, (a National Trust property) where her family have lived since 1783.

When it's hard to talk about what you do - Stuart Green on Cyber Security27 Dec 202100:18:39

Stuart describes himself as a “frequently underwhelmed engineer lurking in the murky cybersecurity realm” and is Managing Director of The Armour Group of Companies who are a group of cybersecurity focused businesses. The group’s aim is to help “people” understand the threats relative to them so they can make accurate risk assessments and take the right steps to form their defences against these dark criminals who are hell-bent on pillaging our digital communities BUT an increasingly disturbing amount of time is now being spent helping organisations of all sizes understand WHY they lost the contents of their bank account, lost a load of customer data or had their entire infrastructure encrypted by criminals.

As much of what Stuart does is sensitive, he can't easily talk about what he does at networking meetings. Instead he focusses on helping other people make connections.
