SlashU Special Interview09 Sep 202400:50:44

On this week's episode, we're bringing you another special interview. We sat down with Calvin Marie McCarthy, the writer/director of "Pillow Party Massacre." He talked to us about making that movie as well as tons of other projects. We discussed his time working on low-budget horror, working with a familiar cast and crew of people, and how he thinks this genre has evolved over time. Calvin's been involved in this industry in one way or another since a very young age and we thank him very much for taking the time to sit and talk with us here at SlashU.

SlashU Special Interview02 Sep 202401:13:12

This week we sat down with someone we consider to be low-budget horror royalty. It's Jeremy Sumrall. We know him best here at SlashU for playing The Beast in 2009's "Sweatshop" but he's done tons of other great things! So we got Jeremy on the line and decided to talk all about it for about an hour. He told great stories of how he started out, how he wound up in both "Sweatshop" and "Axe Murdering with Hackley." He talked about how sometimes the best thing you can do in making films is just 'show up' and be helpful and be grateful for every opportunity. Check it out and let us know what you think, and go show Jeremy some love.

Episode 142: Evil Laugh17 Jun 202401:08:09

We stayed in the 80s this week with another campy classic. "Evil Laugh" is the story of a group of medical students who are looking to buy and restore and old foster home. The catch is that there was a murder in this foster home ten years prior and rumor has it the killer is still on the loose. We get all the great stereotypes you could ask for in this one, including a wonderful 80s music montage. Let us know what you think.

Episode 66: Nightmare28 Mar 202201:33:22

This week we got back to our roots.  It's the story of a mentally ill man who gets out of an institution and goes on a murder spree.  We're keeping it simple here at SlashU.  But this one has a few things that set it aside from other Slashers.  Our killer, George Tatum, is plagued by nightmares (thus the title of the movie), and he didn't 'escape' the institution.  He was let out.  Is he part of some government experiment that wants to turn him into a mind-controlled killer in the name of National Security?  Who is the man with the cigar hot on George's trail trying to bring him back in?  Why is George apparently targeting a specific family in Florida? The answers to these questions will not be found in the movie (for the most part).  So Nick and Andy are here to try and figure it out for you.

Episode 65: Deadline21 Mar 202201:33:07
Well students, we accidentally picked a movie that isn’t really a Slasher. Sorry about that, we really thought it that’s what it was when we found it. It’s ok though, we had plenty to talk about. There’s also plenty of the usual Slasher stuff; boobs, blood, drugs, you get the idea. Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast. Check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for updates. Episode 64: Drive Thru14 Mar 202201:30:57

It's time for another episode of SlashU Extra Credit, where we hit a movie made after our usual time frame of 1977-1988.  We're talking about Drive Thru from 2007.  What happens when you cross Pennywise the Clown from IT with Ronald McDonald?  You get Horny the Clown, the mascot for Hella Burger, a restaurant chain in sleepy little Blanca Carne in California.  Horny has started stalking MacKenzie Carpenter and her friends, killing them one by one with his giant meat cleaver.  But why?  And who is dressed up as Horny?  We get a little campy slasher, a little supernatural thriller, and a whole lotta blood.  Listen, enjoy, tell your friends.  Follow the show on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast.  Check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for updates.  Support the show through the link below.  Thanks to www.zapsplat.com for the sound effects.

Episode 63: Unmasked Part 2507 Mar 202201:14:00

Students of SlashU, you'll have to get in touch with us and tell us if this is a parody movie or not.  Unmasked Part 25 centers around a killer named Jackson (Jason rip-off?) who has been killing and killing for a long time.  Obviously 24 movies' worth of killing to be exact, since this is Part 25.  Anyway, Jackson is wondering if that's all there is to life.  The endless killing just seems so pointless.  But then he meets Shelly, a blind girl, who isn't afraid of how he looks under the mask because she can't seem him!  It seems like maybe Jackson has turned over a new leaf.  He's going to settle down and start a family.  Or will he find out that he's destined to be a killer forever...or at least through Part 26.

Episode 62: Skinned Alive21 Feb 202201:05:52

We've got another whacky movie this week.  It's a slight step up from someone's student film.  It's a short and sweet 1 hour, 17 minutes from 1990, Skinned Alive.  We follow the antics of Crawldaddy's Traveling Tannery.  This insane family of slashers is made up of Ma Crawldaddy, and her kids Violet and Phink.  Together, they roam the countryside looking for victims to skin.  They use the human hides in their leather work.  Unfortunately, the Crawldaddy clan have some car trouble and get stuck in a rural Ohio town.  But all they see are some fresh victims.  Join us in discussing this straight to VHS gem.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the other fun stuff.  Support the show through the link below in this description.

Episode 61: My Bloody Valentine 200914 Feb 202201:30:09

Well, we did the 1981 version last year.  So it's time for our first SlashU Extra Credit episode.  We jumped to 2009 to cover the My Bloody Valentine remake.  Don't worry, we didn't do a side by side comparison of the two movies.  That would be boring.  Although, if that's what you're looking for, let us know.  This more modern version of the mining town classic joins Tom as he returns to town 10 years after a Harry Warden went on a killing spree.  Tom is majority owner of the local mine, which provides jobs to a huge portion of the town.  Tom's selling his shares in the mine and it's got people angry.  Also, terrible killings have started up again.  And they're very similar to what Harry Warden did 10 years ago.  Is Tom's return to town to blame?  He'll have to try and convince his ex-girlfriend that he's innocent.  Take a listen and tell us what you think.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the details.  Happy Valentine's Day!  SlashU loves you.

Episode 60: American Gothic07 Feb 202201:18:45

Welcome back to SlashU and the start of Season 4!  We're excited to be back after a January, 2022 hiatus.  And we dive right back into the Slasher fun with American Gothic from 1987.  As it turns out, you don't just have to worry about Sasquatch in the Pacific Northwest.  When a group of friends gets stranded on an island after flying out of Seattle, they meet Ma and Pa and their three "kids" shacked up away from civilization.  The family seems stuck in time, but friendly enough for our group to spend a couple nights while they wait for help.  But Ma and Pa and their family only seem kind to outsiders.  They are not friendly at all.  This group of friends is in a lot of danger.  So join us as we talk about another great forgotten Slasher.  It's so nice to have class back in session.

Bonus SlashU: Scream 202218 Jan 202200:20:21

Right out of the gate there are NO SPOILERS in this quick episode.  We are continuing our brief time off for the month of January.  But with what's essentially Scream 5 hitting theaters, we decided to just connect real quick to let our students know what we thought.  It also gives us a little chance to test and make sure we can take phone calls.  So Nick called in from the SlashU East Campus and we talked briefly about the new Scream movie.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and let us know what you thought of it there.  Please NO SPOILERS in the comments on social media.  It's just not cool.  Check out www.SlashUPodcast.com under News and Events for upcoming episodes and let us know your thoughts before we record.  We'll give you a shout out.

Best of SlashU - Pranks Gone Wrong10 Jan 202200:57:01

Hello Students and thanks for tuning in while we're on a break for January.  This week we bring you a taste of episodes past that all have a theme.  It's Pranks Gone Wrong this week.  Many slasher movies have the premise of a prank that goes way off the rails and as a result, a slasher starts killing.  Is it revenge?  Is it vengeance?  Is it a third word that also means the same thing?  Usually that's what it is.  Anyway, take a listen while we walk down memory lane with a few clips from past episodes that celebrate Pranks Gone Wrong.  Featuring clips from Prom Night, The Burning, The House on Sorority Row, and Slaughter High.  Huh, I just noticed that 3 out of those 4 all take place in a School setting.... Interesting.

Episode 141: He Knows You're Alone10 Jun 202401:00:27

We've got another 80's classic to talk about this week. "He Knows You're Alone" from 1980 takes us on a journey with Amy Jensen. She's a young bride-to-be who's getting ready for her big wedding day coming up in 2 weeks. But a killer is on the loose who targets young ladies about to get married and their friends (a very specific demographic to be targeting). Detective Les Gamble is on the case, he has history with this killer. But can he stop the maniac in time to save Amy? We'll talk about it here.

Episode 58: Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 227 Dec 202101:16:41

Of course we have to release a Christmas episode this week and of course we had to look at Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2.  Last year we watched Part 1, and the sequel is still within our preferred movie timeframe.  And the benefit to SNDN Part 2 is that you don't have to watch Part 1 to understand what's going on.  Part 2 literally recycles tons of footage from the first movie and explains exactly what took place, along with all the best kills!  It's almost like you get two movies in one and we loved it.  Take a listen.  Special Thanks to Zapsplat.com for the free sound effects.  Check us out on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and the website www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the updates.  Listen, review, tell a friend.  And enjoy your holidays hopefully with loved ones!

Episode 57: The Redeemer: Son of Satan20 Dec 202101:22:37

No it's not The Reindeer: Son of Santa.  It's all the way back to 1978 today.  This one had your co-hosts a little mystified by some of the things in the movie, but overall pretty satisfied with how it turned out.  The plot centers around six people who each live different but sinful lives.  They're all headed to their ten year high school reunion.  What they don't know is that the reunion isn't real.  There's someone out to make them pay for their sinful ways, or "redeem" them.  And for some reason the guy's got two thumbs on his left hand.  Anyway, take a seat at your desks and listen.  Let us know what you think on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast, or hit us up at SlashUPodcast@gmail.com.  And check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for other updates and movies we've watched, along with the schedule of upcoming stuff.  Support the show through the link below.  Thanks for all you do!

Episode 56: Silent Madness13 Dec 202101:23:24

What happens when a mental hospital accidentally releases a patient due to a clerical error?  And then what happens when that patient turns out to be a homicidal killer who goes back to the college where he murdered four sorority girls years earlier?  And then what happens when a doctor from that hospital tries to track down the killer while trying to expose her employers for their mistake, but the hospital decides to cover their tracks by any means necessary including murdering their own doctor?  You get Silent Madness.  That's what happens.  This episode marks the debut of our new mixer, mics, and sound board.  We've still got some fine-tuning to do with the mics to sound our best, but boy did we have fun with that sound board.  Special thanks to www.zapsplat.com for the sound FX.  Be sure to support the show through the link below.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for extra credit, news and events for insider information about the show as well as upcoming episodes.

Episode 55: StageFright06 Dec 202101:26:37

Yes, that's supposed to say "StageFright" as one word.  That's how the movie was released.  In this week's episode, we get a group of actors locked inside at their theater rehearsing, making for an easy killing ground for the slasher.  We also get more incompetent police work.  There's even a nice kitty, that doesn't get harmed at all.  Check out StageFright from 1987.  Also coming soon, some new equipment for the podcast, which will hopefully make us sound more professional.  The only thing is, the obscenities probably won't stop.  That's how we do, here at SlashU.  Listen, subscribe, leave a comment, tell your friends.  We're on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and visit www.SlashUPodcast.com to stay up to date with everything else.

Episode 54: The Toolbox Murders29 Nov 202101:21:28

Hello SlashU students and welcome to another week.  We hope your Thanksgiving holiday (here in the USA) was a good one.  And to help you recover and get back to your regular routines we give you a fresh episode today.  We're talking about The Toolbox Murders from 1978.  It's a fairly easy story to follow.  A masked maniac is killing women around an apartment complex using a variety of tools from his toolbox.  The twist to the plot is why he's doing it.  And then another twist happens when one of the girls is "rescued" near the end of the movie.  It's definitely worth the watch.  As always, follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the past episode descriptions, merchandise, extra credit, and news about upcoming episodes.  There should be a link below right here if you'd like to support the show.  Thanks for listening and have a great day.

Episode 53: Don't Go in the Woods22 Nov 202101:20:28
Well students of SlashU, this movie has one of those titles that pretty much sums it up.  There's a killer in the woods, so don't go in there.  But what happens?  A bunch of people go in the woods anyway.  Hilarity ensues.  From 1981 and directed by James Bryan.  In a complete coincidence, we sat down to record this episode on 11/20/2021 which, according to IMDB, is the exact 40 year anniversary of the release date of this movie.  So that was cool.  Take a listen, like, subscribe, and tell your friends.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and visit www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the details and other goodies.--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slashu/support

Episode 52: Sledgehammer15 Nov 202101:15:27

Well SlashU Students, we're sorry but not all the movies we watch are winners.  Enter, Sledgehammer from 1983.  Listen to the episode to see how we ranked this one as one of our worst movies that we've watched.  The story starts with an abusive mother locking her son in a closet so she can fool around with her lover.  They're both cheating on their spouses.  Well, apparently the kid breaks out of the closet and kills both of them with a sledgehammer.  Fast forward 10 years.  A group of friends are staying in the same cabin to party and drink, and one by one they fall victim to a killer wielding a sledgehammer.  The plot is about as deep as a cookie sheet.  But that's why we do this for you all!  Listen, enjoy our take on one that's not so great. Share with friends.  And drop us a note at www.SlashUPodcast.com or on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast.

Best of SlashU: Inside Jokes08 Nov 202100:40:58

Hello students of SlashU.  Welcome to our very first clip show.  Now that SlashU is 50+ episodes strong, we decided to go down memory lane and re-visit some of our favorite inside jokes and references here at SlashU.  We sometimes refer to past episodes or pop off jokes that might not be familiar to everyone if they haven't heard a past episode.  In this episode, we went back and explored some of those references.  You'll hear the birth of the Dick Shot Kill, why we sometimes say "F*ck Richie," and some instruction on getting away with anything simply because you pay your taxes.  Listen, enjoy, tell your friends.  This is a great episode to jump in if you're new to SlashU.  It's fun to listen back and see how bad our microphones sounded compared to now.  We'll be back next week with a new movie.  Check www.SlashUPodcast.com News and Events section for updates.  And follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast

Episode 51: Hack-O-Lantern01 Nov 202101:14:22

We're back after a brief hiatus.  And this time we recorded in front of a live audience!  We were so honored to host an episode of SlashU at the Very Famous X-Ray Arcade in Cudahy, Wisconsin.  We played the movie for our audience, and afterwards sat down and recorded this episode.  It was so much fun and we can't wait to do it again soon.  Hack-O-Lantern is an excellent Halloween movie.  A kindly old grandfather has been grooming has grandson Tommy for years to be the leader of his Satanic cult.  It's Halloween night and Tommy is poised to go through the ritual to "come into his true power."  But there's a killer on the loose dressed as one of the cult members, killing anyone who gets close to Tommy or his family.  Is it grandpa?  Is it Tommy himself?  This movie had a little bit of everything; drugs, boobs, violence, and even a metal band music video right in the middle!  Treat your ears to the first ever SlashU recorded in front of a live audience.

Episode 140: Fanatic (The Last Horror Film)03 Jun 202401:08:59

This week we finally got back to our regular format where we watched a cheesy, campy, sometimes forgotten slasher movie and we're going to break it down. We took on 1982's "Fanatic: The Last Horror Film." The story centers around Vinny Durand, a fan obsessed with a horror starlet Jana Bates. He's an aspiring director and he's got the perfect film for Jana. But he's a nobody. So Vinny gets to Cannes Film Festival in France to try and pitch his movie to Jana. Only he discovers he has to go through agents and producers, and Jana's ex-husband Bret. And people start getting killed left and right. Has Vinny gone too far?

Episode 50: The Majorettes04 Oct 202101:24:37

Wow!  We've made it to 50 episodes.  If we go back and listen to episode 1 I'm sure you'll all agree that we've come a long way here at SlashU.  Your hosts Nick and Andy are just coming back after a short time away due to us both getting and surviving the dreaded COVID-19 virus.  We're fine and happy and ready to go this week to talk about The Majorettes from 1986.  It's available to rent or to buy on Amazon Prime.  Someone is stalking and killing members of the high school Majorettes team.  Also there's a gang of thugs around the school bullying some of the kids.  That's the setup!  There's not much to it, but it's still a great movie.  We decided it starts out as a Slasher and ends up more of an Action Shooter.  Take a listen and let us know what you think.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the fun stuff.  Tell your friends, like, subscribe, and review.  It's great to have class back in session.

Episode 49: Blood Harvest20 Sep 202101:21:06

This week we jump into another great flick filmed in Wisconsin.  And we didn't even know it when we picked it!  Tiny Tim plays Marvelous Mervo the Clown in 1987's Blood Harvest.  When Jill comes home from college to visit her parents, she finds her house vandalized and her parents missing.  Then things get worse when Jill's closest friends start to disappear one by one.  Also, Andy was pretty sick with a regular head cold during recording.  Our sincerest apologies for any coughing, sneezing, or sniffling you might hear.  It didn't take away from our on-mic chemistry.  Take a listen and don't wind up in the FRIEND ZONE!  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and visit www.SlashUPodcast.com for more.

Episode 48: Sweet Sixteen13 Sep 202101:29:21

Well we're back after taking a couple of weeks off due to just being really busy in our non-podcasting lives.  We're out of practice just a little bit, but don't worry.  We still brought you a great episode.  This week we're talking Sweet Sixteen from 1983.  When Melissa and her family move into a small town in Texas, Melissa gets a lot of attention from the local boys.  But it seems like each time she starts to get flirty or involved, the boy ends up dead.  There's even a little racism directed at the local Native American tribe.  Check it out, watch the movie, listen to us, like, subscribe and tell your friends.  Visit www.SlashUPodcast.com for more on our other movies.  Follow on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast.  It's great to be back!

Episode 47: Mortuary23 Aug 202101:27:54

For this week's episode we got to watch a movie featuring the late, great Bill Paxton.  It's Mortuary from 1983.  After the death of her father, Christie Parsons is having trouble coping.  She sleepwalks, she's less intimate with her boyfriend Greg, and she suspects her father's death wasn't an accident.  Her suspicions lead her to the local mortuary where Paul Andrews (Paxton) works with his father.  There's a mysterious figure in a black cloak terrorizing Christie as well.  And to make matters even weirder, her mother is involved in conducting seances.  We had some fun dissecting this one.  Listen, like, tell your friends, and enjoy.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and visit www.SlashUPodcast.com for more.

Episode 46: The Initiation16 Aug 202101:35:23

This week SlashU goes back to school with a good old-fashioned sorority movie.  We watched The Initiation from 1984.  It's about a group of pledges who need to pull off a big prank to finish off their initiation into a sorority.  One of the pledges named Kelly has had amnesia of everything in her life that occurred before age 9.  And also, she has started having a recurring nightmare more and more often.  Does it have something to do with the breakout of several mental patients from Fireside Sanitarium, one of whom seems to be a killer who's out for Kelly and the other pledges?  Yes.  It absolutely has something to do with that.  We spoil the whole thing in another wonderful session here for your learning pleasure.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast or check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for more.  Like, subscribe, tell your friends.

Episode 45: Party Line09 Aug 202101:31:16

This week Nick and Andy don't play by the rules.  In fact, they even get into a decent little argument!  But don't worry, SlashU isn't in danger of shutting down.  If anything, it makes us stronger.  We called up the Party Line for your listening pleasure.  It's a fun, sexy flick from 1988.  The story centers around Seth and his sister Angelina who had a troubled childhood.  As a result, the two of them lure in unsuspecting family men who call the Party Line.  Angelina seduces them to get them to come over.  Seth kills them.  But ADA Stacey and Lt. Detective Dan have been assigned to solve the mystery of who's killing people with a straight razor.  Will they discover the murders are tied to people who call the Party Line?  Will Seth continue to kill whomever his sister Angelina wants him to kill?  Will the babysitter Jennifer keep calling the Party Line without her parents knowing?  No one plays by the rules in this all-over-the-place slasher.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for more.

Episode 44: Don't Go in the House02 Aug 202101:22:03

If you like movies where the killer has Mommy issues, have we got a doozy for you!  This week Nick and Andy take on Don't Go in the House from 1979.  Depending on where you watch it; the main title sequence might call it "The Burning."  So we touched on that a little bit.  It's not too heavy on the Kill Count, but definitely heavy on the psychological issues with Mom.  Donald Kohler was abused as a kid and as a result of that abuse, he has an unhealthy relationship with his mother, and with fire.  One day when Donny's mom passes away and he suddenly finds himself "free" from her abuse, Donny decides to "burn away other evil" in the world now that he is "Master of the Flame."  Sorry for going a little "heavy" on the quotation marks.  It's one of those weeks.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com; getting overhauled and updated one step at a time.

Episode 43: X-Ray (Hospital Massacre)26 Jul 202101:25:15

This week Nick and Andy take on one of the worst movies we've ever had here at SlashU.  Nick even said it's his second least favorite behind Final Exam way back in Season 1.  It's X-Ray or Hospital Massacre from 1981, or maybe 1982, possibly 1983.  It's different depending on where you look the movie up.  When Susan Jeremy goes to the hospital to get her results from a routine checkup, she's targeted by a mysterious killer dressed as a doctor.  He switches her results with those of someone very sick in an attempt to get Susan admitted and held at the hospital.  And then he kills anyone who gets in his way while he targets her.  It's another movie that could've been a 10 minute Saturday Night Live sketch.  And we had an absolute BLAST ripping it apart.  Enjoy!  Follow, recommend to your friends, give us a review.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for more.  Promise to update soon.  Love you all, students!

Episode 42: Doom Asylum19 Jul 202101:28:43

What happens when a lawyer and the love of his life get in a horrible car accident, she passes away, but he gets mistakenly partially autopsied, only to wake up, murder the medical examiners, and take up residence in an abandoned asylum for 10 years killing anyone who crosses his path?  Well, that's the plot of this week's movie; Doom Asylum.  Nick and Andy were a little at odds with the quality of this one.  Take a listen, or watch the movie and judge for yourself.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast.

Episode 41: Slaughterhouse12 Jul 202101:25:06
When old man Lester Bacon is threatened with foreclosure on his property, he ends up sending his mentally slow son Buddy on a killing spree against his enemies. That’s right! It’s “Slaughterhouse” from 1987. We had a bellyful of a good time dissecting this gory, campy, meat-filled classic. Enjoy. Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com. Episode 40: Island of Blood05 Jul 202101:28:29

SlashU is back to our regularly scheduled syllabus.  This week we watched Island of Blood from 1982.  Available for free on Tubi with a couple short ads mixed in.  The cast for a low-budget movie goes to an island to shoot.  But there's a killer among them, he's got a whole bunch of tape recorders, all playing the same catchy (annoying) song.  And he's killing people according to the lyrics.  We thought it was pretty good, not totally flawless, but a solid campy slasher with a twist ending.  Listen, enjoy, like, subscribe, and tell your friends.  Follow us on Instagram at @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for more (as soon as Andy updates it).  We hope you all had a safe and happy 4th of July!

Episode 38.5: Army of the Dead14 Jun 202100:36:02

With co-host Andy getting married we couldn't record a regular episode for this week.  But fear not!  The content must go on for our students!  We're giving you a mini-episode of SlashU Xtra Credit.  We brought on the ladies in our lives Jodie and Cheryl and all four of us talked about Army of the Dead.  It's a two-and-a-half hour zombie action thriller on Netflix, brought to you by director Zack Snyder.  When a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas causes authorities to wall off and quarantine the city, Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) is tasked with assembling a team to go in and get a whole bunch of money that's in the vault of one of the casinos.  It's The Walking Dead meets Ocean's Eleven.  We loved a lot of things about it, and hated other things about it.  Pretty much par for the course for most movies we watch.  Listen, share, like, review, and enjoy.  Watch our posts on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast for what we'll watch next.  Enjoy the Xtra Credit!

Episode 38: The Prowler07 Jun 202101:18:00

This week we dive into a classic slasher story of heartbreak and revenge.  Our killer is "The Prowler" from 1981.  When a vet from WWII gets his heart broken via a "Dear John" letter, he gets his revenge at a local dance celebration and two people end up dead.  Thirty-five years later, the dance has been reinstated and this time it's a celebration for graduation from the local college.  So when our graduates gather to celebrate their last days together, little do they know for some of them, it's literally their last days alive!  The Prowler is out on the prowl again, still upset from being dumped 35 years earlier.  We had a great time with this one.  Some excellent special effects drive the horror home.  Be sure to follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com because I promise we'll update it soon.

Episode 37: Blood Theater31 May 202101:32:04

Happy Memorial Day here in the U.S.A.  Today we honor and remember those who paid the ultimate price in service to this country.  And even though it's a holiday, we still have a fresh SlashU episode to share with all of you students.  This week we kept our running theme of movies with "blood" in the title with Blood Theater from 1984.  This one is about as campy as they can get.  It's a quick 76 minutes, and plays almost like someone's student film.  But we had fun with it anyway!  An old stage performance theater closes down after a terrible tragedy where many people lost their lives.  Years later the cinematic chain Spotlight Theaters buys the location and they want to make it their newest movie theater.  But there's someone or some sinister force haunting? invading? stalking? the old theater.  And it's putting anyone who wants to open the place in grave danger.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast or check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the gory details.

Episode 26: Blood Tracks24 May 202101:13:54

This week we head to Sweden!  It's a movie that's supposed to take place in Colorado, but was shot in Sweden with a Swedish director and some bad dubbing over the dialogue.  Blood Tracks.  When a film crew goes up a mountain to shoot for their rock music video, they decide to use an old condemned factory as a spot for some footage.  However, there's a family of hermits living there who have been hiding out for 40 years and they don't take kindly to strangers invading their space.  Also, we need your help students.  We can't figure out how many hermit/killers there were in this movie.  If you could DM us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and help us out that would be great.  Check out the flick and enjoy the episode!

Episode 35: Blood Hook17 May 202101:21:24

This week's movie took us all the way up to the Northwoods of Wisconsin.  We took a deep dive into Blood Hook from 1986.  Someone is killing people around the local Musky Madness fishing tournament by hooking them and dragging them into the water with a giant fishing lure.  Who is it?  Why are they doing it?  We'll tell you all about it today.  This was a movie with a lot going on, and we just want you to know we're sorry ahead of time for the quick way this movie jumps around from scene to scene.  Stick with us, it might get confusing.  But we had a great time picking on the place of Andy's childhood and all the stereotypes that go with it.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast.  Like, subscribe, and tell your friends.

Episode 34: The Slumber Party Massacre10 May 202101:34:45

This week we jumped into our PJ's, braided hair, and gossiped about boys and this slasher classic.  It's The Slumber Party Massacre from 1982.  Trish and her friends have a slumber party while her parents are out of town.  But unfortunately Russ Thorn, the escaped killer, has decided to grab a big drill and go on a killing spree in their neighborhood.  This movie had some great examples of female empowerment right alongside a lot of classic slasher stereotypes, and we covered it all.  Take a listen and drop us a line on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and visit www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the goods.  Updates coming soon...I promise.

Episode 33: The Burning03 May 202101:32:20

This week we're diving into a classic slasher recommended to us by one of our loyal Instagram followers @tales_from_the_blackside.  Thanks for the great recommendation John!  It's "The Burning" from 1981.  When some kids at Camp Blackfoot play a prank on old Cropsey the caretaker, it goes horribly wrong.  I mean...could it go any other way?  Cropsey ends up terribly burned and comes back after five years to terrorize the kids at a new camp and get his revenge.  We had some great discussions, diversions, and debauchery on this episode.  Andy started with a full beer that is 12.9% ABV and you can listen to the effects throughout the podcast.  Treat yourself to a listen.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast to get in touch with us.

Slasher Madness: Championship20 May 202400:24:00

It's all come down to this! Our first-ever Slasher Madness 16 team bracket style tournament that pits some of our favorite Slashers against each other FINALLY comes to a conclusion. We're discussing the winner and ultimate slasher (out of the 16 movies we chose for this tournament) and we'd love your help! It's Chromeskull from the "Laid to Rest" series versus Victor Crowley from the "Hatchet" series. Although Victor's victory over The Beast last week is hotly contested. We're going to set out to figure out who wins this matchup. Feel free to let us know what you think.

Episode 32: Maniac Cop26 Apr 202101:33:52
Nick and Andy take a shot at a hot topic and discuss current events in this "break from the norm" episode of SlashU.  Just kidding!  We actually watched a slasher movie like we do every week.  Could you imagine if we just sat and discussed current events?  No thanks.  Anyway...when someone dressed as a police officer starts murdering innocent people, it's up to Detective Frank McCrae to try and solve the case. And even though it looks like Officer Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) is guilty, Detective McCrae isn't buying it.  But they have to clear Jack's name before too many innocent people pay the price.  This was an awesome movie and we're not shy about saying so.  Dive in and treat yourself to a listen.  Follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast.--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slashu/support

Episode 30: Motel Hell12 Apr 202101:24:35

This week we continue our travels to the Motel Hell from 1980, a place where the guests are just dying to stay.  Haha!  See what we did there? The movie centers around Farmer Vincent and his sister Ida who run the Motel.  Together, Vincent and Ida have a booming smoked meats business.  But they use a secret ingredient to make the meats delicious.  It's humans.  We weren't wild about this movie, but it was still fun to watch and pick apart.  Check it out and give us a listen.  Be sure to like, review, subscribe, and share with your friends.  Instagram: @SlashU_Podcast and www.SlashUPodcast.com.
