| 33. I've got a gig - Warm up with me - Major Scale + Basically How to Scat | 27 Nov 2025 | 00:31:37 | |
Hi How are you?! So I begin with singing a D Major Scale over two octaves over the chords: Bmin/G and F#minor/D. I'm referencing a song by Tainui Richmond called "Turning it Over", though I don't sing his song. Do go check it out, it's cool. https://tidal.com/track/469516330/u Then I scat over the chords: BMajor to G#Minor. MY NEW SONG IS OUT TODAY ON BANDCAMP - It's called NORMAL DAY. https://shellybrown.bandcamp.com/track/normal-day The other folks I mention are Bobby Alu and Steve Poltz. Both definitely in my favourite musicians box. Thanks so much for listening, xxx Shelly Thats all. The Northern Rivers Conservatorium approached me to write a fundraising song. I've got a new song coming out called "Call me for No Reason" AUGUST 17 - 2025 it's coming out on the Bandcamp Platform. This Episode delves into where your voice would sit in a traditional Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass range, if you were singing this song. In A Major. You know I love playing harmony games, so it is more of that, but I really try to lay out the ranges of Vocal Registers. Please do head over and check out my new song. I'd be forever honoured! This Ep we're going to hassle out "Twang quality". We're going to find the strength and supreme delight in getting you nose working when you sing. It's totally a thing. If you're a visual kind of person, get out something and write this on it: The Blues Scale: 1; flat 3; 4; flat 5; 5; flat 7; 8. Then we're gonna sing a Blues song about getting stuff wrong. Now that's stuck in your brain forever, we're going to manipulate your sound to play with "Sob" Quality. Open your throat, smile, don't worry about anything. It's all going to be ok. The chords in the song section are A minor and D minor. Thanks for listening. https://www.patreon.com/Shelly_Brown

Hiya beautiful people! Thanks for tuning in to my podcast. Lotsa love to you out there. In this lesson we look at the Relative minor scale as a warm up. 1, 2, flat 3, 4, 5, flat 6, flat 7, 8. For my exercise I leave out the flat 6 once I get going. We then look at two songs and moosh them together, a song called 'Wondering where the Lions are" by Bruce Cockburn. | 35. Polar Expresso and the Cycle of Fifths | 26 Jan 2026 | 00:28:13
On this episode we take a little adventure to the other side of the globe. I take a "walk" around a far far away town and create a songwriting exercise using the Cycle of Fifths: F, C, G, D, A, E, B Fat Charlie Gets Drunk After Eating Blueberries And then we think of five things about a town and write a song using repetion and relaxing! Write using a land formation - a mountain, a river, a natural landscape as the theme. I wrote this song using the Cycle of Fifths as the first part of the song uses the chords F, C, G as major chords, and then it goes on to Dminor, Aminor, Eminor. As minor chords The Words! are: Part 1: On Badger Road, at the Polar Expresso, The sun is setting low, the sun is setting low. Part 2: That rivers got a long way to go, if it's searching for the sea, that rivers got a long way to go, if it's searching for me. And we try to add a Drone Harmony note on the second part. Hope you enjoy and Lotsa love to all the folks that live at North Pole, Alaska! Thanks for listening. xx Shelly Thats all. | 40. Spin around this Earth with a Diminished Chord | 15 Apr 2026 | 00:19:17
Hiya, Im running off to teach workshops and singing and schoirs at a singing and dance retreat in Byron Bay. So Fun! And Im squeezing this episode in before I go! We sing these words: With these chords: || G | % | E dim | % | | D | % | G | % || It’s all right here, just close your eyes and see, I don’t know the gravity, That keeps you holding on to me, I’ll spin around this earth, I’ll hold on to all the dirt, I’ll find my way through, and make it back to you. a Diminished Triad Chord is a 1 flat 3, flat 5. This is a tricky thing to chat about, because there exists a fully diminished and half diminished seven chord, but for here, I'm just talking about the Triad chord. Just the three notes. Thanks so much for listening! Lotsa Love! Shelly Thats all. The Northern Rivers Conservatorium approached me to write a fundraising song.
