Egypt Equine Aid: ‘The Reality For Working Animals in Egypt 23 Sep 202601:15:11

CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains discussions of graphic injuries and animal suffering that some listeners may find upsetting.

This week on Shut Up and Ride, we’re joined by the wonderful Jill Barton, founder of Egypt Equine Aid, for an episode that, quite frankly, left us a little bit speechless.

Jill takes us behind the tourist photos and postcard views of the pyramids to talk about the reality facing many of the horses, donkeys, camels and working animals in Egypt — the injuries they see, the conditions these animals can endure, and the incredible work Egypt Equine Aid is doing to treat them, educate owners and try to create lasting change.

There are moments in this conversation that are really difficult to hear. Ben spends a fair amount of the episode with his jaw somewhere near the floor, and there were times when none of us really knew what to say.

But this is exactly why we wanted to make this episode.

Horse welfare has always mattered enormously to us at Shut Up and Ride, and sometimes that means having conversations that aren't comfortable. More importantly, it means asking what we can actually do to help.

So this episode is also a huge shout-out to you, our listeners. Please listen, share it, talk about it and, if you can, support the extraordinary work Jill and the team at Egypt Equine Aid are doing. Even a small contribution from this brilliant community could make a genuine difference.

It’s not our easiest episode. But it might be one of our most important.

SIMON GRIEVE: The Burghley Debrief 17 Sep 202601:15:21

Simon Grieve is back from Burghley — so it’s time for the full debrief.

From a disappointing dressage test to yet another brilliant clear cross-country round, Simon talks us through the highs, the lows and what it really feels like to ride around one of the biggest five-star tracks in the world.

We get into the pressure of Burghley, what went right, what didn’t, and how you pick yourself up when the weekend doesn’t quite start the way you hoped.

And then, because this is Shut Up and Ride, the conversation somehow ends up with Simon revealing the best underwear to ride in.

Serious five-star eventing analysis. Questionable underwear chat. Standard Shut Up and Ride.

From Mustangs to Badminton and the fun and tears in-between : Elisa Wallace 11 Sep 202601:28:26

This week, Jenny and Ben are joined by five-star eventer, Mustang trainer and exceptional horsewoman Elisa Wallace — and wow, what an episode.

From training Mustangs and building relationships with horses others might overlook, to competing at the very top of eventing, Elisa’s career has always put horsemanship at the heart of everything she does.

But this conversation also goes somewhere much deeper.

Elisa talks openly about her fall at the final fence at Badminton — and the brutal social-media backlash that followed, including death threats. She is truthful, vulnerable and wonderfully honest about what that experience did to her, what she learned from it, and how you keep going when suddenly everyone has an opinion.

At the heart of the episode is a question we keep coming back to:

When you’re competing at the very top, which hat wins — the horseman or the competitor?

Expect tears, some incredible insights and Ben at possibly his happiest — talking horses with another person who truly thinks like a horseman.

Elisa is thoughtful, refreshingly honest and a fierce advocate for the horse. This is a conversation about competition, pressure, mistakes, social media and what putting the horse first really looks like.

Is this what the horse world needs to learn?

Dolly, Bridleless & Going Completely Off the Rails 01 Sep 202601:18:12

This one goes off the rails a bit… but, quite frankly, that’s what we do best.

Think honest, unfiltered chat down the pub with your mates — horses, life, opinions, tangents and absolutely no idea where the conversation is going next.

We start with the bridleless display at the Aachen Opening Ceremony. Seeing bridleless riding showcased on one of the biggest stages in equestrian sport feels significant — but is it? Is this a sign that attitudes really are changing in the horse world, and are we starting to rethink what good riding and horsemanship can look like?

From there, things take a turn.

Following the sad news of Dolly Parton’s death, we talk about Dolly, her extraordinary life and why certain people seem to mean so much to so many of us. That leads us somewhere we perhaps weren’t expecting, as Ben talks openly about his faith and we get into one of those very honest conversations about life, beliefs and the things that shape who we are.

Then, somehow, we're back to horses.

We discover just how different our coaching styles are, what makes a good coach, what makes a good pupil and whether the person with the most talent is necessarily the person you most want to teach.

And then it’s over to you.

We answer the questions you sent us on social media.

It’s candid, funny, occasionally serious and mostly chaotic.

Basically, it’s Shut Up and Ride doing what Shut Up and Ride does best.

Ben Asselin: What Makes a True Horseman? 21 Aug 202601:22:25

What’s the difference between being a great rider and being a true horseman?

This week, Canadian show jumper Ben Asselin joins Jenny, Simon and Ben to talk horsemanship, the lessons he’s learned competing at the highest level and why understanding the horse has to go far beyond what happens in the ring.

Ben also takes us inside Spruce Meadows — the iconic venue founded by his grandparents, Ron and Marg Southern — and explains what makes it such a special place for horses, riders and fans of the sport.

Plus, we go behind the scenes of FAULTLESS, the new six-part show jumping documentary series that essentially gives show jumping the Drive to Survive treatment.  Produced in partnership with Rolex, which Ben co-executive produced alongside his brother Kyle.

From what makes a true horseman to one of the greatest venues in the sport and a new series taking show jumping to a global audience — this is a brilliant conversation with someone who has spent his life immersed in the sport.

Freddy Steele: From Stunts to Dressage & Unlocking the Horse’s Mind 11 Aug 202601:18:37

This week Jenny and Ben are joined by the one and only Freddy Steele — Liberty Legend, stunt rider, horseman, performer and mindset coach.

Freddy takes us behind the scenes of a life spent doing things with horses that most of us wouldn’t even dare attempt… from jaw-dropping stunts and live performances to dressage, liberty work and developing a true partnership with the horse.

But there’s much more to Freddy than the spectacular stuff.

We get into mindset, confidence, communication and training horses, and ask Freddy some of the tougher questions about the horse world — the things we all see, think about and sometimes don’t dare say out loud.

And, because apparently one Freddy isn’t quite enough, Simon makes a very brief guest appearance before his live demo!

Expect horses, stunts, some seriously good conversations and plenty of Shut Up and Ride honesty.

Processing Grief and Loss 24 Jul 202600:32:07

This week’s episode is a difficult one.

Simon and Jenny come together to reflect on the heartbreaking losses of Sophie and Kerry while eventing, two much-loved members of the eventing community. As friends, colleagues, and fellow equestrians, they share their personal thoughts, memories, and emotions while trying to process a tragedy that has been felt across the sport.

This isn’t an episode with answers. It’s an honest conversation about grief, the close-knit nature of the eventing world, and the impact these losses have had on so many people.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time.

The Holy Grail of Tangents: From Monty Python to Rodeos and Bitless Riding 17 Jul 202601:26:08

The gang's back together... and absolutely nothing is off limits.

Ben, Simon and Jenny reunite for another laugh-out-loud episode of Shut Up and Ride, where the conversation takes more twists and turns than a jump-off. From nostalgic chats about those magazines, to the world of rodeo, the rise of bitless riding, and everything in between, it's another episode packed with honest opinions, plenty of laughs, and the kind of tangents only this trio can produce.

Ben is back on top form, delivering some of his funniest one-liners yet, Simon tries to keep things on track (with varying success!), and Jenny does her best to referee the chaos.

As always, the team also shares what's been annoying them this week, tackles the hot topics from across the equestrian world, and proves once again that no subject is too big, too small, or too unexpected.

Whether you're mucking out, driving to a show, or just in need of a good laugh, this is one episode you won't want to miss.

From Top-Level Sport to Grassroots Reality: A No-Holds-Barred Chat with Rosie Williams & Tina Wallace 24 Jun 202601:24:19

What makes Eventing such a special sport?

In this episode of Shut Up and Ride, we’re celebrating everything we love about Eventing — the horses, the riders, the challenges, the community, and the incredible journey from grassroots to the highest levels of competition.

We’re joined by Rosie Williams, CEO of British Dressage, and grassroots rider and influencer Tina Wallace for a brilliant conversation about what makes Eventing so unique and where it might go next.

We chat about new initiatives, including Be Prepared, what they mean for riders, and how British Eventing continue to make the sport welcoming and exciting for the future.

And, naturally, we ask some of the questions riders love to debate… could bridleless riding ever become a thing in British eventing? Will we one day be able to talk with our horses during a dressage test? And what colour jodhpurs might we be allowed to wear in eventing?

A fun, honest and passionate conversation about why Eventing captures so many hearts — and why there’s still so much to look forward to.

A New Era for Equestrian Sport? Inside the UK's First Bridleless Competition 19 Jun 202601:39:25

What happens when you completely rethink what a competition can look like?

This week on Shut Up and Ride, we’re diving into history as we chat with Mia Rodley, the founder of the UK's first ever bridleless competition at Merrist Wood in the UK.

Simon is missing this one (he’s off on a hen do!), but stepping into the co-host seat is the wonderful, brilliant, and ever-handsome Ben Atkinson — and together we get into the story behind this groundbreaking event.

Mia shares what it took to bring the competition to life, the challenges of creating something that had never been done before, how the day actually unfolded, and what this moment could mean for horses, riders, and the future of equestrian sport around the world.

We also get to know Mia’s incredible journey and career, the passion behind her vision, and why this isn’t just about removing equipment — it’s about asking bigger questions about trust, communication, partnership, and what’s possible when we put the horse first.

A super fun episode with some huge conversations. You don’t want to miss this one

Caleb Degen:' Negative reinforcement vs Positive reinforcement and so much more! ' 04 Jun 202601:13:44

Australian trainer and legend Caleb Degen joins the Podcast crew for what might be our most high-octane episode yet. We dive deep into liberty horsemanship, training philosophy, and the often misunderstood conversation around negative reinforcement vs positive reinforcement.

Caleb shares stories from his life, his training journey, and what it takes to build real connection and trust with horses. From the Australian Outback Spectacular to eagles, dogs, helicopters and everything in between — this episode goes completely off the rails in the best possible way.

We also recorded this the morning after

Packed with laughs, honest conversations, horse training gold, and pure chaos — this is one you don’t want to miss.

The Unofficial Badminton Recap 26 May 202601:39:10

This week on the Shut Up & Ride podcast, Simon, Ben, and Jenny unpack all the drama, chaos, and unforgettable moments from this year’s Badminton Horse Trials.

From Simon questioning whether the grassroots course was secretly a five-star track, to Ben surviving his very first Badminton experience (while accidentally causing absolute mayhem on the cross-country course), there’s plenty of laughter and behind-the-scenes stories from one of the biggest events in the equestrian calendar.

Jenny is back on presenting duties and quickly discovers that apparently anyone with a microphone and a blazer gets mistaken for Clare Balding. Add in eventing gossip, memorable fan encounters, and a few questionable decisions along the way, and you’ve got an episode full of classic Badminton madness.

Whether you were there in person or watching from home, this is your unofficial debrief from a weekend at Badminton Horse Trials you definitely won’t forget.

LIVE - Lakeside at Badminton 2026 14 May 202601:21:45

Live from the lake at the legendary Badminton Horse Trials, the Shut Up and Ride Podcast team are back together for one of the funniest episodes yet — and this time, they’ve brought Olympic gold medallist Laura Collett along for the ride.

With a HUGE crowd gathered lakeside, the gang dive into the madness, magic, and mayhem of one of the biggest weeks in eventing. Simon is in full competition mode as he takes on Badminton himself, while Ben experiences his very first 5* event — and quickly discovers there’s absolutely nothing normal about it.

From behind-the-scenes stories and Badminton chaos to Laura’s top-level insights and plenty of questionable banter, this episode has everything: laughs, nerves, crowd heckling, and the unmistakable atmosphere of eventing’s greatest stage.

Recorded live by the lake. Loud, unpredictable, and completely unfiltered.

SHUT UP AND RIDE

World Cup Wins & World Class Mistakes 25 Apr 202601:07:45

This week on Shut Up and Ride, the gang is one man down as Ben swans off to rub shoulders (and apparently more) with Hollywood’s finest—but fear not, because Jenny and Simon more than pick up the slack.

Jenny is in full storytelling mode, diving into the electric atmosphere of the World Cup and the emotional high of watching Becky Moody deliver a truly unforgettable performance. It’s goosebumps, tears, and top-tier sport… swiftly followed by one of the most hilariously awkward moments you’ll ever hear, involving none other than Lady A. Yes, it’s as cringey as it sounds—and then some.

Meanwhile, Simon is deep in Badminton prep—and it’s all coming together. From training rides to final tweaks, he’s feeling focused, confident, and quietly excited as everything starts to click into place ahead of the big event.

No Ben, no filter, and absolutely no holding back—just the way you like it.

In the latest episode of Shut Up and Ride, the full team reunites in the studio, joined by special guest Charles Owen, to dig into one of the biggest talking points in the industry right now: the recent factory closure that’s been surrounded by speculation, half-truths, and plenty of rumors.

Together, they cut through the noise and get to the heart of what really happened. From insider perspectives to hard questions that others won’t ask, this episode goes beyond headlines to explore the real impact on workers, riders, and the future of the scene.

Expect honest opinions, lots of hilarious moments, and the kind of unfiltered conversation you’ve come to expect.

If you’ve heard the rumors—this is the episode you need to hear.

“Is it a Horse or Is it a Dolphin?” 26 Mar 202601:38:59

This week on Shut Up and Ride, Ben, Simon, and Jenny are all back in the saddle for an episode that goes everywhere…

We dive headfirst into the latest chaos in the horse world —the good, the bad, and the downright baffling. Jenny brings her weekly rant (and no, it’s NOT about corgis this time…). Beagles have entered the chat, and honestly, they’re not safe.

Meanwhile, we somehow end up discussing the Manosphere (yes, really) and Louis Theroux—because why not mix horses with existential documentaries?

Simon shares his latest ambitions of treading the boards and becoming a full-blown actor (watch this space…), while Ben updates us on his ongoing horse-related antics—which may or may not involve questionable decision-making.

And of course, we take a nostalgic detour into our own ridiculous youth stories… some things are better left in the past, but we’re sharing them anyway

Expect laughs, chaos, strong opinions, and absolutely no clear answers to the big question: is it a horse… or is it a dolphin?

'It’s Not Just Logs in a Field' - Helen West 10 Mar 202601:28:43

️Simon and Jenny sit down with brilliant course designer Helen West for a fascinating chat about life behind the scenes of cross-country course design.

From working in a traditionally male-dominated world to the reality that designing a course is a bit more complicated than just sticking a few logs in a field, Helen shares what really goes into building tracks that challenge riders while keeping horses safe.

We also talk about the fence involved in the tragic fall that claimed the life of rider Georgie Campbell — and Helen explains the thinking behind fence design and whether there was anything wrong with that particular obstacle.

Simon reflects on the risks in the sport and how understanding them shouldn’t take away from people’s enjoyment of eventing.

If you’re heading out eventing this season, this episode is packed full of advice — plus some of Helen’s course-walking pet peeves

And of course, we also find out how Helen and Jenny became friends… over a couple of piña coladas!

An Australian Fireman Holding a Kitten?! 24 Feb 202601:12:50

Yes. That’s the episode title. No, we won’t explain it here.

In the latest episode of Shut Up and Ride, Simon and I answer your questions — from who we actually follow on Instagram, to how Simon somehow ended up being compared to… well… an Australian fireman holding a kitten.

We also revisit Jenny's ski “career.” And by career, we mean a series of unfortunate sliding incidents that absolutely nobody asked for but everyone seems to enjoy.

But in between the chaos, we take a moment to pause and pay tribute to two extraordinary horses who recently passed — Sam, the legendary partner of Michael Jung, and Mr Bass, longtime partner of Laura Collett.

These horses weren’t just medal winners. They were teammates, teachers, and once-in-a-lifetime partners. The kind that shape careers and leave a mark on the entire sport.

It’s an episode full of laughter, listener questions, mild self-destruction… and a heartfelt salute to two greats.

Dr Louise Newson: “Eat Fruit and Pray?” No — Let’s Understand Hormones 12 Feb 202601:36:16

This week on Shut Up and Ride, we’re joined by the incredible Dr Louise Newson, one of the UK’s leading voices on women’s hormone health.

From PMDD to perimenopause, menopause and everything in between, Dr Newson breaks down what’s really happening in our bodies — and why so many women are still being dismissed, misdiagnosed, or left to struggle in silence.

At one point, we discuss the kind of advice women are still being given — including being told to “eat fruit and pray.” Yes, really. And we talk about why that simply isn’t good enough when it comes to serious hormonal and mental health symptoms.

We dive into the mental health impact of hormone imbalance, including anxiety, depression and suicide risk, and the life-changing health benefits of getting the right support and treatment.

We also put your questions directly to her — like why can’t women easily access testosterone? and how do we actually get our GP to listen to us?

Jenny bravely shares parts of her own journey in the hope it helps others feel less alone and more empowered to advocate for themselves.

And it’s not just for women. Ben gets involved to represent the men, asking the questions partners, husbands and friends often don’t know how to ask — because understanding hormones isn’t just a “women’s issue,” it’s a family issue.

Honest, eye-opening and empowering — this is a conversation everyone needs to hear.

SHUT UP AND RIDE

From tour to Darwin Awards 05 Feb 202601:34:29

We’re fresh off a hugely successful podcast tour and unpacking everything — the wins, the chaos, and the moments we’re still recovering from. Silly Prune (Hannah) joins the tour in truly iconic fashion, rolling up in a hilarious Liberty unicycle with full horse energy, while Becky Moody sends us all into a collective WTF moment (yes… we nearly killed her ). Somehow, through all of this, Simon became the happiest man on earth — and you’ll want to stick around to find out exactly why. Then we take a sharp turn into the Darwin Awards, celebrating some absolutely unreal human decisions. Tour tales, big laughs, and peak chaos — shut up and ride.

Buckle up.

SHUT UP AND RIDE

Shut Up and Ride: featuring Simon Grieve! 14 Jan 202601:25:29

The latest episode of Shut Up and Ride kicks off the year exactly how we like it — with the usual chaos, laughs, and very little actual equestrian chat to begin with.

Once the giggles settle (kind of), it’s training time with Simon, as he dives into how he produces his horses from the ground up. From mindset to method, Simon breaks down his approach in a way that’s honest, practical, and refreshingly real — the good, the challenging, and everything in between.

It’s the perfect blend of banter and brains: start the year laughing, stay for the learning.
We loved this one — and we think you will too. ✨

Tune in, have a laugh, and come on tour with us.

SHUT UP AND RIDE

Shut Up, It’s Christmas 24 Dec 202501:24:06

It’s our Christmas special, and things get merry, messy, and very opinionated. We kick off with a deep dive into Becky Moody’s incredible test – why it hit so hard, what made it special, and why everyone’s still talking about it. Then it’s time for Charlotte Dujardin’s comeback, and yes… we’ve got thoughts

Jenny is finally back after working in Thailand, bringing sunshine stories and questionable life choices, while Ben lets us know exactly what he wants for Christmas . Simon tops it all off by arriving with Diana the Deer, because obviously he does.

Festive fun, dressage debate, unexpected guests and the usual Shut Up and Ride nonsense — pour a drink, saddle up, and enjoy the Christmas chaos. ✨

Tune in, have a laugh, and come on tour with us.

Silly Prune - 'LIVE' at Your Horse Live 08 Dec 202500:56:08

LIVE on Stage at Your Horse Live — Chaos & Pet Peeves!
Things got spicy in this live episode recorded at Your Horse Live as influencer Silly Prune hit the stage — and immediately found herself in a full-blown debate with Ben over the real cost of horse shoes (spoiler: no one was backing down).

From there, it only got better (and weirder). Silly Prune opened up about her famously strange ways, the habits that confuse everyone, and the routines that somehow work… against all logic. Then we turned the spotlight on the audience with a hilarious Q&A on equestrian pet peeves — from late arena hoggers to horse time and everything in between.

To top it all off, the legends at Charles Owen stepped in to dish out the prizes.

Laugh-out-loud, slightly unhinged, and 100% real — this episode is pure live-show chaos in the best possible way.

Arguments, awkward confessions & horse-world icks — live on stage!

SHUT UP AND RIDE

Lucy Robinson – no longer 'Footluce' & Fancy-Free! 31 Oct 202501:32:52

Lucy Robinson joins us this week, and there is a lot to talk about — in the best way.

First up: pregnancy. Lucy shares how it feels to step into a totally new chapter while still holding onto her horsey identity. We talk energy levels (or lack thereof), shifting priorities, and the surprisingly emotional task of figuring out who you are when life changes shape. It’s honest, warm, and very, very relatable.

Then we move to her retraining journey with her ex-racehorse — who, let’s just say, has his own thoughts about dressage, patience, and what constitutes a “reasonable” pace. We get into progress, regressions, breakthroughs, and why doing things slowly can sometimes feel harder than going fast.

Plus:
Ben faces Rope HaltGate head-on after last week’s listener feedback (he’s fine, we think).
Jenny and Simon deliver the usual blend of support and friendly chaos.

If you’ve ever tried to do your best in the middle of major life changes — with a horse who also has opinions — this episode is for you.

Tune in, have a laugh, and come on tour with us.

It’s honest, it’s unfiltered, it’s chaotic in all the right ways — just another day on Shut Up and Ride.

SHUT UP AND RIDE

Holistic or Bulls**t? 10 Oct 202501:31:22

Have you been told magnets improve blood flow? Well, listen in for some home truths.

In this episode of Shut Up and Ride, Ben and Jenny dive headfirst into the world of holistic therapies for horses and animals. From crystals to magnetic bands, essential oils to energy work — are these treatments genuinely helpful, or just well-marketed nonsense?

Joining the chaos is the brilliant Matt Campbell, founder of EQU StreamZ® Bands, who sheds light on how his therapy works, the science (and skepticism) behind it, and the challenges faced in the equine wellness space.

Spoiler alert — Ben and Jenny are huge fans of the bands themselves, and after seeing the results firsthand, EQU StreamZ® has come on board as official Tour Welfare Sponsors!

It’s an honest, hilarious, and thought-provoking chat that’ll have you questioning what’s real healing and what’s just… horse shit.

Tune in, have a laugh, and decide for yourself — is it therapy, or is it bullshit?

Perimenopause & Menopause: The Ride No One Trains For 06 Sep 202501:07:24

Riding Through Perimenopause and Beyond

In this powerful and eye-opening episode, Jenny and Simon are joined by dressage rider and coach Steph Bradley, whose groundbreaking research into perimenopause and menopause has revealed astonishing results.

Steph shares the heart-breaking stories of women whose riding and lives have been affected by this transition—stories that deserve to be heard. But this is not all heavy. True to Shut Up and Ride style, there are laughs along the way, including a candid (and very funny) chat with Simon about how sore vaginas and other rarely talked-about issues can keep women out of the saddle.

This episode is as honest as it is important: blending compassion, science, and humor to shine a light on a subject that touches countless riders. Whether you’re a rider, coach, or supporter, you’ll come away with greater understanding and maybe even a smile.

“Olympic Rider, Abuse Survivor, Carl Hester Fangirl – Abi Lyle’s Story” 17 Aug 202501:49:15

In this raw and powerful episode, we sit down with international dressage rider Abi Lyle, who opens up about her incredible journey to the Olympics—from childhood dreams to riding under the global spotlight.

Abi shares the highs and lows of life in the dressage world, her deep LOVE (like Jenny-level love!) for Carl Hester, and how social media plays a role in her equestrian career—from motivational messages to the... less polite DMs. It's candid, funny, and full of the passion that drives her sport.

But this conversation takes a deeper turn as Abi bravely speaks about surviving coercive control and abuse from convicted murderer Jonathan Crewswell, the heartbreaking loss of her brother, and her current sobriety journey.

This is a story of grit, healing, and rediscovery. Abi’s voice is one of strength and clarity, and we’re honored she chose to share it on the podcast.

Trigger Warning: This episode discusses themes of domestic abuse, grief, and addiction. Please take care while listening.

Calling It Out: The Whip, the Welfare & the WTF 11 Jul 202501:32:55

The One With Simon’s Assets, Ben’s Funeral Fiasco & That Heath Ryan Video
Shut Up & Ride

The gang's back together! Ben, Simon, and Jenny reunite in this packed episode full of honesty, humour, and heart.

We kick off with Simon’s, er, assets making a surprise appearance (you’ll never look at a pair of breeches the same again), before diving into Ben’s emotional goodbye to his grandparents—and how their funeral somehow turned into a full episode of The Vicar of Dibley.

Then things get serious as we discuss the controversial video of Heath Ryan whipping a horse. We don’t hold back, and we openly invite Heath to join us on the pod to talk, listen, and—hopefully—help drive change for the welfare of our horses.

Finally, Jenny opens up about her personal experience with perimenopause: the brain fog, the emotional rollercoaster, and why more women in our sport need to feel seen and heard.

This episode is a rollercoaster—raw, ridiculous, and real. Saddle up.

Michael Duffy - "Shut up and get on with it" 24 Jun 202501:01:55

In this episode, Jenny Rudall and Simey Grieve welcome the brilliant (and at times hilarious) Michael Duffy, international show jumper and all-round good sport. From growing up in a horsey household to navigating the competitive show jumping circuit, Michael takes us behind the scenes of his life in the ring—and out of it.

They chat about everything from natural talent vs hard work, mental resilience, and the evolution of riding styles, to the commercialisation of the sport and what the future might hold. But it’s not all serious—Michael’s sharp wit shines through, especially in a brilliantly relatable “What’s Annoyed You This Week” segment that will have horsey listeners nodding (and laughing) in agreement.

Honest, insightful, and properly funny—this is one you don’t want to miss.

"Grief needs to be embraced...but it f**king sucks" 03 Jun 202501:02:17

Nashville Nightmares, Eventing Ethics & the Weight of Loss

In this week’s episode of Shut Up and Ride, Simon and Jenny sit down for a candid catch-up that’s equal parts hilarious and heartfelt. Jenny spills the tea on her outrageous escapades in Nashville – from questionable karaoke to cowboy boot blisters – and Simon can barely keep it together.

But it’s not all laughs. The duo tackles a controversial topic in the equestrian world: when riders experience near-disasters in eventing, should they be allowed to carry on? They dig into the tough questions around rider responsibility, safety, and the ongoing conversation about horse welfare.

Finally, they reflect on something deeper – the grief of losing horses and people we love, and how those losses shape us both in and out of the saddle.

An episode full of laughs, thought-provoking debate, and honest emotion – don’t miss it.

Lucinda Green – Legends, Laughs & a Proper Pub Pod Send-Off

For our final and most special Pub Pod of the series, we’re joined by an absolute icon — the one and only Lucinda Green.

Recorded live at the legendary Lygon Arms, this episode is everything we dreamed a Pub Pod could be: honest, hilarious, emotional, and totally unforgettable.

Lucinda had the room roaring with laughter one minute and wiping away tears the next, as she shared stories that span decades of riding, falling, winning, and loving horses with her whole heart. Her raw emotion and passion for the sport — and for the horses themselves — is simply spellbinding.

What’s it really like being a six-time Badminton winner?
How has eventing changed — and what still drives her mad?
❤️ What keeps her love for the horse so powerful after all these years?
What does she think of Ben’s liberty training?
And Simon steps up with some truly brilliant questions that unlock the real Lucinda — and she doesn’t hold back.

This wasn’t just a podcast — it was a celebration of horsemanship, history, and heart.
A truly special night with a living legend, and the perfect end to our chaotic and brilliant live series.
