In this episode of the 'She's Brave' podcast, Kristina interviews HeatherAsh Amara. Amara is a bestselling author of 9 books, including co-authoring world-renowned book, The Four Agreements with Don Miguel Ruiz. She discusses her new book 'Wild, Willing, and Wise' with Kristina. HeatherAsh shares insights from her book on the archetypes of Wild, Willing, and Wise, and provides practical tips for cultivating these traits. They discuss bravery, boundaries, and handling challenging relationships with compassion and balance.

HeatherAsh Amara bio:
What do we do when the world seems to be burning around us?

We hold hands. We show up. We take good action and make good trouble. We root in. We pray. We love. We weep. We sing to the trees. We know we are in this, together.

As a master firewalk instructor and President of the Global Firewalking Association, the irony is not lost on HeatherAsh that when she found herself right on the frontlines of the destruction of climate change, it came in the form of a fire at her home an retreat center in New Mexico. She also has a wildly successful Substack documentary about the destruction of almost all of her land. He intent with Out of the Fire is to dance together with the contradictions, and find meaning in the chaose. And to celebrate everything.

Sweet Impact: Turning Cookies into a Cure with Gretchen Witt, Founder of Cookies for Kids Cancer05 Mar 202400:35:58

Send us a text

Kristina welcomes Gretchen Witt, founder of Cookies for Kids Cancer, on this incredibly inspiring episode.  Gretchen has been interviewed on The Today Show and profiled in The Wall Street Journal as well as CNN, Good Morning America, Oprah Magazine and The Huffington Post; recognized as one of Woman’s Day magazine’s 50 “Women Who Are Changing the World”, and named the National Honoree in L’Oreal’s Women of Worth awards as well as several other national awards. In 2011, Gretchen added author to her list of accomplishments with the release of the Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Best Bake Sale Cookbook which became a bestseller on Amazon and All the Good Cookies Cookbook.

Gretchen shares her emotional journey after her son, Liam, was diagnosed with cancer at age two. After discovering that pediatric cancer was hugely underfunded, Gretchen organized a massive bake-a-thon, resulting in 96,000 cookies and $420,000 for pediatric cancer research. The conversation discusses the importance of funding pediatric cancer research (which to this day continues to be underfunded), the impact of grassroots events, and Gretchen's dedication to fulfilling Liam's legacy. The organization has GRANTED OVER $21 MILLION to pediatric cancer research, and Gretchen emphasizes the need for continued support.

About Gretchen:

Liam’s indomitable spirit inspired her to raise money for a promising new treatment in need of funding. Committed to doing all she could to help make the treatment become a reality, Gretchen hatched a plan to bake and sell 96,000 cookies with a larger-than-life holiday bake-a-thon. Against all odds of what should be possible, every cookie sold in a matter of days, and more than $420,000 was raised. In September 2008, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer launched as a year-round, national organization.

As the organization grows, Gretchen’s story of love and determination to impact change inspires people across the country.

She is described as inspirational, offering a message of “strength and determination that is perfect for so many people.”

Beyond Courage: An Intimate Conversation with Kristina Driscoll and Lianne McAughey02 Jan 202400:48:50

Send us a text

Today's episode holds a special place in my heart, as it's my late husband's birthday and the first anniversary of the She’s Brave Podcast! We will delve into an intimate conversation I had with Lianne McAughey, the brilliant host of 'The Spiritual Shiftworker.' Our discussion revolves around courage, a trait that isn't always about roaring like a lion but sometimes about mustering the strength to face another day.

We explore themes of bravery and authenticity, reflecting on a transformative trip to Cambodia, where I was fortunate to make a meaningful impact. We also discuss the keys to happiness, the power of intuition, the importance of serving others, and the search for purpose.

If you're curious about my personal journeys and insights, this uplifting episode will be a treat. My aim with this podcast is to spotlight women who've achieved great things and weathered life's storms. Together, we discover tools for resilience and authenticity, encouraging each other to stay true to ourselves and make decisions based on our needs rather than external expectations.

In this episode, you will be able to:

  • Discover your inner wisdom and intuition for personal growth.
  • Forge your unique path to fulfillment and happiness.
  • Fill your own cup to live a more meaningful life.
  • Prioritize self-care and nurture your needs for a balanced life.
  • Embrace self-discovery and intuition for a more fulfilling journey.

Purpose: A Lifetime of Growth and Change with Karen Olsen Hall28 Nov 202300:45:56

Send us a text

Let your soul be soothed by the calming voice of Karen Olsen Hall, host of the empowering podcast, The Hero Within Podcast. She and Kristina bring story after story, little win after big win of reasons why one must never give up on oneself, no matter what the circumstances want us to believe. Being born 2 ½ months premature and presumed not to survive, adversity began at birth for Karen. So did the grit! Due to her prematurity, her nervous system didn’t develop properly, leaving her incapable of regulating her emotions and feeling things very deeply. She became an empath…her mother became her biggest cheerleader! When she was terrified of something, her mother counteracted that by encouraging her to do something that would tackle that fear and push her out of that comfort zone. This and her relationship with God developed throughout her childhood and teenage years and has laid the foundation for the path that led to her career. Today, she lovingly coaches people through turning their adversity into purpose and helping them thrive beyond their pain.

In this episode, you will be able to:

  • Identify grit and resilience within yourself
  • Understand that what someone else days DOES NOT determine your truth!
  • Know that EVERYONE is meant to thrive!
  • Realize that sensitivity DOES NOT equal weakness!
  • Understand that doing the brave thing often means leaning into your fears
  • Accept that growth and change is a lifelong process
  • Listen to that spark…that light inside of you! It’ll guide you through the unknown of your life.
  • Keep going, no matter what! Keep getting up, no matter how hard you get knocked down!

About Karen

Karen absolutely loves helping people!  She has always been a nurturer, which led her to become a registered dietitian and to volunteer and serve for years helping others in need. For decades, she had been life coaching on health, wellness, nutrition, weight loss, and lactation. But then she decided that her real love was coaching on parenting, nervous system regulation, and relationships. Having experienced adversity and loss in her own life, she wanted to share the things she learned and help others avoid suffering the way she did. As a result of her direct training and certification as a life coach with Marianne Williamson, she helps others feel empowered to transform their pain into purpose. She has also completed additional advanced training in life coaching and emotional intelligence. What she loves most about her job is helping people achieve clarity, gain confidence, and feel empowered to transcend pain into purpose and return to a place of love.

Inspiring. Motivating. Empowering. This is Kathrine Switzer, the first official woman to run the Boston Marathon. She just wanted to run but ended up being an icon. In the beginning, the goal was just to be on the girls’ field hockey team in high school. But, with the ever-present support of her father, she not only reached that goal, she triumphed over and over, just by having the passion to put one foot in front of the other. From being the fastest girl on the field hockey team, to garnering an audience for girls’ sports for the first time by being a writer for the school newspaper, to training with the all-boys Cross Country team at Syracuse University, her younger years laid the foundation for her work in the spotlight as a women’s and civil rights activist, following her history-making run in the Boston Marathon in 1967. After that, the sky was the limit. She had to keep going…and she did! In this interview, Kathrine shares her awe-inspiring journey from curious girl to strong woman and how she is now giving back to other women worldwide through her non-profit, 261Fearless.

In this episode, you will be able to:

  • Identify YOUR light!
  • Draw inspiration from Kathrine’s story to triumph over struggles of your own.
  • Understand just how much of an impact that one person CAN have! And realize that that person could very well be YOU!
  • Realize that where there is a ‘no’, there is more than likely an alternative. Find it!
  • Comprehend just how important it is to be self-aware. Life gives you moments to choose to be brave…or not. Choose bravery!
  • Know that life’s greatest relationships and experiences can come as a result of forgiveness.
  • Comprehend that everyone has moments of discouragement. It’s how you bounce back that determines what you’re made of.

In this special final episode of the three-part series, host Kristina Driscoll concludes her conversation with author Varuni Sinha, who shares deep and compelling stories from her life and book "Golden Handcuffs: An Immigrant's Pursuit of Happiness." Varuni opens up about her husband’s noble efforts in journalism, her poignant experiences during COVID-19, including the struggles of her mother-in-law’s illness and the consequent challenges with immigration and spousal visas.

Varuni recalls the life-changing story of how her therapy dog Mowgli played a crucial role in her recovery from depression and how strangers' act of kindness restored her faith in humanity. Varuni emphasizes the importance of moving beyond pain and giving others a chance, regardless of their background. She urges listeners to look for the good in life, even amidst adversity, and to nurture faith and love over fear and hatred.

Kristina reflects on Varuni's journey of spiritual growth and resilience.
