| EP 79 | Tasha's Story: Trust Fall To Freedom | 24 May 2026 | 00:48:30 | |
A head-on collision started a battle Tasha Williams wasn't prepared for: prescription pain medication that didn’t just numb broken bones, but also silenced years of buried fear, grief, and trauma. When relief feels like rescue, the line between treatment and opioid addiction can disappear fast. In this episode Tasha traces her story back to childhood domestic violence and the vow she made at nine years old to never be hurt again. Episode Mentioned - Tasha Williams is a 41-year-old woman who knows what it means to fight—and to win daily! After surviving the chokehold of addiction, Tasha's been walking in freedom for 8 years through Jesus Christ. She is a proud mom of two “semi-grown” kids—Nevaeh (20) and Maleak (19)—who keep her grounded, grateful, and praying a little extra. Tasha serves as the Director of Residential Life at Blue Monarch, where she has the honor of walking alongside women as they rewrite their stories—because she knows firsthand that your past doesn’t disqualify you, it prepares you. Somewhere between morning coffee and leaning on God for everything, she's learned He still restores, still redeems, and still uses imperfect people to do powerful things—and she's living proof. Picture yourself in the shoes of a man who has lost his brother to suicide and succumbed to the depths of alcohol addiction. That's the raw and heart-wrenching journey of our guest, Jared Zimmerman, whose courage led him to ultimate recovery. Today's podcast with Jared Zimmerman will impact you no matter who you are. Both Jared and his wife’s family are what we affectionally call a “grove family.” That means that both of their families went to school with ours at the little country school called Forest Grove. Heartache still finds its way into beautiful families raising kids out in the country, as you will soon hear. God has woven together a story of suicide, addiction, family, and strength that, as painful as it is, Jared is using that story for God's purpose. Jared and Summer are a living testimony of what it looks like to live your faith out loud to encourage and walk alongside others in their pain. As he paints a vivid picture of his struggles, from the anguish of losing his brother to the stigma of mental health, we can't help but be moved by his resilience and determination. | Ep 46 | A Conversation With My Daughter In Law: Stephanie's Story - Part I | 01 Oct 2023 | 00:26:40
This podcast, while being one of the hardest ones I've ever done as far as getting through it without letting my emotions get the best of me, was also the podcast where I was pinching myself that this was happening. Steph is sharing her story, and I have the privilege of sitting here at the table with her while she shares. I don't care who you are; this is never an easy assignment, and I say assignment because that is what it is. God handed it out, and completing it is up to you. I recall that feeling well when I shared my story for the first time. I had no desire to, but I did, having no idea the freedom I would experience on the other side of the telling when I was released of the guilt and shame that kept me quiet for so long. I do not know who will hear Stephanie's story, but I know this. We only tell our hard stories for one purpose: so others can be blessed with the hope that the same miracle awaits them. | Ep 40 | Cool Kids go to Therapy - Part I | 26 Mar 2023 | 00:35:48
I'm not too fond of labels and decided that the Trauma label did not apply to me long ago. That decision came from a place of not understanding what Trauma really is. I thought it was only something that happened to you that met one or more of the following criteria:
We are so quick to disregard what we don't think applies to us, so I tuned out a lot whenever this topic came up. My view of Trauma has been enlightened, and I bet yours will be, too, when you listen to this podcast. It's a little bit of Stuart Smalley and a whole lot of Jesus. Why? Because although it's essential to identify the problems in our lives, I would always rather talk about the solution. Speaking of-Jesus had a perfect solution❤️ "Come to me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest." Thanks for being here with me today, Kali & Michelle; I couldn't have this valuable conversation without you! The book mentioned by Michelle: Author: Pete Walker Title: Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving Amazon Link: https://a.co/d/cvRc3jc What is Trauma? | EP 75 | Jon's Story: Sobriety Isn't Enough | 01 Mar 2026 | 00:47:41
What if alcohol isn’t the core problem—but escape is? We sit down with Jon Seidl, author of Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic, to unpack a bracingly honest journey from cultural drinking to quiet day buzzes, from a bestselling book high to an aching low, and a night in Miami that tore the blinders off. Jon doesn’t glamorize a bottom; he shows how subtle compromises pile up when success fades, old wounds whisper, and numbing feels easier than feeling. - Jonathon M. Seidl (Jon) has been telling stories his whole life. In fact, he’s written over 10,000 posts in his lifetime, first after helping start a successful news website and then as the editor in chief of the popular nonprofit I Am Second. He writes and speaks all across the country on the power of storytelling, radical vulnerability, faith, mental health, and addiction. His first book, Finding Rest, became a bestseller in several categories and a top 100 book on Amazon. His latest book, Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic, is his radically vulnerable story of being the Christian who became an alcoholic, his climb out of addiction, and how others can break free from all of life’s entanglements. Shortly after its release, the book became the top new release in addiction recovery on Amazon. He lives in Frisco, TX, with his wife and two young children. He holds a Masters in Theological Studies from Southwestern Seminary. | Ep 35 | Joyful Surrender-Who We Are | 18 Sep 2022 | 00:36:37
What is that “thing” that you regret you did not do sooner? Since this is a podcast about addiction and mostly alcoholism there are two answers I often hear. I wish I had quit drinking before I actually did I wish I had joined this group before I tried it on my own again. This group is Joyful Surrender and in this podcast, you're going to hear what a meeting is all about. I get countless unfinished “form” notifications each week about joining Joyful Surrender. There are five questions you have to answer. #1 Are you in Recovery? If yes, what is your sober anniversary? If no, simply answer no and move on to the next question. #2 Why do you want to be in Joyful Surrender? #3 Please review the group rules. Do you agree to honor them? #4 Is your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? AND, this is where I lose you. #5 Are you willing to talk with an Admin? If yes, follow the link to schedule a call. In my estimations only about one in twenty follow through with #5. It makes no sense to me, but yet it does because I have been there. You want to take the final step but at the last minute, all the little voices of doubt creep in. I'm passionate about Encouraging anyone to join A group, I am not trying to sell Joyful Surrender. I don’t make a profit there isn't a membership fee the only thing that’s required is a true desire to get sober and use your faith as the biggest tool To be accountable and to receive encouragement as well as give encouragement that’s why we are sharing this meeting with you We will talk about; What made us complete step 5 and schedule that phone call? What relapse in a support group looks like? Why are faith-based meetings so important? And so much more! “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25 NLT About the She Surrenders Podcast: On the She Surrenders podcast we are talking about women, faith and addiction all on the same platform. | Ep 27 | Debbie's Story | 10 Apr 2022 | 00:46:23
Join me for this honest conversation with Debbie, a friend, and admin of Joyful Surrender. Debbie shares with you how God tugged at her heart to participate in a Bible Study even though she was still drinking. Listen to Debbie's story of her path into alcoholism and the journey God brought her on to bring her to her surrender moment. She shares scripture from Ephesians about putting on the full armor of God and what the sword of the spirit means to her. Thank you, Debbie, for being willing to share your story to encourage others to surrender and start living a life of freedom from alcohol. . Ephesians 6:10-17 NIV The Armor of God 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
