The decision to embark on the homeschooling journey has been a long time coming for our family. As a Christian online coach and course creator, I strongly believe that families are meant to be together, and the industrial revolution has shifted our focus away from this core value. With God's conviction in my heart, I am excited to share that I am officially becoming a homeschooling mama! The past school year felt like torture as my family waited for this moment, and now we are ready to embrace homeschooling with open arms. My husband and I will be homeschooling our Pre-K, 1st grade, and 3rd-grade children, and although we don't know exactly how it will work, we trust in God's guidance. Today I’m sharing all about this journey and my thoughts about being a work from home mom! FAMILY CONNECTION One of the most significant benefits of homeschooling is the incredible amount of time we will be able to spend with our children. Over the course of their upbringing, we will gain back more than 16,000+ hours with them. It's astonishing to realize that half of our almost 9-year-old's education has already been completed, and I feel a deep sense of regret for the moments I've missed. Being a business owner means getting good at failing. Today I am talking about the scary world of technology and how it can make online coaches and course creators feel like failures. It is so common to run into resistance when it comes to learning how to master funnels, run ads, and work with spreadsheets, but you don’t have to be scared of it because you CAN get through it. I’ve recently been working through a lot of technology with my student Jami. Jami used to be scared of spreadsheets until I encouraged her to push through the resistance and now she is dominating spreadsheets. The first time you see something you don’t understand, your first response should NEVER be “I can’t do this”. SIMPLICITY TO START When it comes to the technology side of things, DO NOT subscribe to too many apps. I know this is hard because it can be less expensive and simplified, but even in the simple ones there is enough to do and much to keep up with. I always recommend an all inclusive app that will allow you to keep everything in one place. You want to focus on one thing at a time so that you can get really good at that first before moving on to add another thing. Please know that you won't understand something until you get in there and do it.
You CAN learn technology! You can learn SEO, spreadsheets, Facebook ads, funnels, you can learn it all! Think of it like a puzzle you need to figure out. It’s really about shaping your mindset to know that you will eventually connect the pieces. After running through a recent workshop series in the last couple of weeks, I've been thinking a lot about how women sabotage their wealth. There are so many ways that women can sabotage wealth, but a huge thing that was on my heart was how they unknowingly limit their opportunity and quench their blessing through bad decision making. Today we’re talking all about the ways women destroy their potential in business and break promises to themselves and others. ALWAYS ASKING FOR EXCEPTIONS It blows my mind how many women think that they are entitled to being given exceptions. I am all for exceptions in terms of truly helping somebody who is grateful! However, in the business world we have created a climate of special exceptions where everyone thinks that they are owed something or do not have to honor their agreements. This has created a boundary issue. When people feel entitled to exceptions, they are crossing the boundaries of the business owner. So as a business owner, I encourage you ladies to hold firm and fair boundaries with your clients and to not be guilted into “that is not loving.” If you are a boundary pusher, I encourage you to be grateful for what people have given you, and to be truly focused on having integrity in everything that you do. As faith-led coaches and course creators, we are building our businesses differently. It’s not about worldly success and having big numbers - we are building set-apart businesses. Are we making up our version of success or are we listening to what God is saying success is? As a Christian Business Coach, I see this happen frequently - for myself and others - When we aren’t where we think we should be, we can experience discouragement and frustration at our lack of perceived progress. But we need to align our expectations with God’s will! Journey with me as we surrender our business, step into where we are called so we can experience a harvest! HIS TIMING, NOT OURS When we step into the world of faith and business, our business is not our own - I have done the work and showed up and been obedient to his calling, but God is the one who has allowed it to grow, thrive, and prosper. Sometimes I want it to happen faster and on my terms.There are times I have jumped ahead and didn’t ask for permission, which leaves me frustrated. Thankfully, time is a great teacher and we can get a fresh perspective. When we can obey in the pivots, pauses, and pushes in our business, we can experience God’s blessing in his timing. FORGETTING TO CELEBRATE SMALL WINS Even as I am in the scaling phase, it’s easy for me to forget how much I’ve grown since launching a business over 10 years ago. I forget where I started and I can forget to celebrate when I have $10K months. We can be our worst enemies sometimes - because we forget to see how much we’ve grown or to look back at our initial struggles. In remembering, there is grace for ourselves as we learn new things. Instagram is DEAD to me - and the times are changing. As a Christian Business Coach, I’m thinking about changing my strategy as the market changes - is it time for you to make a change, too? Many people are getting discouraged with their results on Instagram and that means they will begin using other platforms to market their business. As faith-led coaches and course-creators, we want to build our businesses on platforms that have long-term benefits and will be sustainable for the long haul. And Instagram might not be the right one. NO LONGER ABOUT THE # OF FOLLOWERS YOU HAVE Right now, you can get more engagement with an account with 500 followers than with 30K! The platform is not rewarding accounts with lots of followers, but rather, the quality of your followers. If you have a smaller account, this is a great time to get engaged with those who follow you. Be focused on the quality, not the quantity. GET BACK TO CONNECTION Marketing is really shifting towards making a connection with others. Other platforms have focused on building relationships for a while now. But Instagram has been in kind of an identity crisis for a while - trying to be all things to all people. In the end, though, it all comes down to making connections and building relationships and DMs are a great way to have real conversations with real people. What’s the natural progression for growing and marketing my coaching program or online course? The truth is, there’s no one right way to do it - even though you’ll probably hear many other coaches and gurus telling you that you have to do it their specific way. There’s a lot of strategy involved in choosing the right next step for your business. And not all strategies are right for your stage of business-building. There’s a difference between Beta launching, live launching, and evergreen launching. Listen in today to hear the difference between all three so you can make the best decision about what to do next in your faith-filled coaching or course-based business so you can build it in a sustainable and profitable way! BETA LAUNCHING The ultimate goal for a BETA launch is to get your first clients and to prove that your offer will sell. Typically you’ll start with people you know and build a connection in a 1:1 setting. Because you’re just starting out, you’re most likely spending time with them in a setting where you can build a relationship with them, so you can then build a group program or a course. This stage is typically more low-stress and is more about you building your program versus selling and making money. Doing this phase well means getting to the launching stage faster and easier, so don’t get stuck in the BETA phase! LIVE LAUNCHING The next phase for most coaches and course creators is to live launch. Taking what you learned in your BETA launch, you now begin mastering the sales process by selling what you have created - a group coaching program, a course, or even a 1:1 program. Doing this phase well will set you up to begin selling on evergreen, which is the next step in scaling your business. EVERGREEN LAUNCHING This is the passive business model that everyone talks about - the Holy Grail of your business. We’re in the middle of launching season and it might feel like you have to do everything and do it right now! The demand is high to launch and sell before the end of the year and as a Christian Business Coach, I have fallen victim to the mentality of trying to do it all and manufacture success. Whether you are in the building phase or just a season of revamping your funnels or programs, it can be hard to watch other people have success, leaving us feeling like we aren’t doing enough or it’s not happening fast enough, so we try to manipulate our way into forward momentum. It’s easy to jump to the quick wins when we’re launching or growing our businesses, but maybe God is calling you to take the slower route, building a strong foundation and selling a signature program or maybe to just take your foot off the gas pedal and slow your roll. While you are building your business or making some changes to your offer, keep these important strategies in mind to avoid trying to manufacture or manipulate your way to success. RUNNING YOURSELF RAGGED TRYING TO GET SOMETHING TO WORK Stop trying to do all the things! It’s easy to get caught up in the content hustle that isn’t actually converting. If you’re stepping into something that God has not called you to do, it’s not going to work out. If you are constantly trying to create new content, a new program, or a new offer, you are going to wear yourself out. Instead, try making some smaller tweaks to the offers you already have. JOINING ALL THE PROGRAMS + AVOIDING THE WORK It’s easy to convince ourselves that the next program or course that you purchase is going to be the magic bullet to fix the problems you are facing in your business. But the real problem is that you just aren’t sticking to the work that you need to be doing. Or, even worse, you think that maybe someone else will be able to do the work for you. | 97. Live Launching? Learn How to Avoid Overwhelm and Navigate the Emotional Rollercoaster of Launching (Even With Kids at Home) | 11 Oct 2022 | 00:35:45 | |
It’s launch season! Launching well can be really exhausting simply because there are so many details to manage. In addition, you have to go from content creation to sales person and that can take you on a rollercoaster of emotions! Many people will try to convince you that you can skip live launching and jump straight to evergreen sales, but that really isn’t the case. Live launching is a necessary and important step in your entrepreneurial journey. Let’s dive into how you can avoid the overwhelm and navigate the emotional rollercoaster of launching! Prioritize + Plan There is so much to do, my biggest tip is to prioritize and plan! You aren’t going to have all of your content created before going into a launch, so you’ve got to have a plan to prioritize the most immediate tasks first. Start with the end in mind and then work backwards from what’s the biggest need first. This preparation also includes preparing for your family or other responsibilities ahead of time - including childcare, food, rest, carpool - any responsibilities you have that you can delegate, make a plan! You’ll be serving your heart out for your clients during this launch, which is exhausting, but also so, so fulfilling! Prepare Content on the Fly You will be creating content on the fly because you simply can’t anticipate everything you need until you do it. But you can pace yourself by creating daily tasks and sticking to those priorities. If you have the big pieces in place ahead of time, in order, starting with your sales page, then creating emails, etc… then working on the smaller pieces as you go through your launch will be much more manageable and less overwhelming. Avoid Claiming Negative Emotions Launch fatigue is real! The reality is, during a launch you’re going to be exhausted, but there is an end to this burst of work. In that exhaustion, you can become paralyzed or exhausted or discouraged. Allow yourself to validate those emotions, but then get back to the work. You will go through launch lows where you feel like no one is listening. This is the time to hold strong! You will want to put your whole heart into this work and not give Satan a foothold to stop you in your work. You were called to do this work - don’t give up! Read More... On this week’s episode, we’re talking about family when it comes to entrepreneurship. For me, I’ve never not been an entrepreneur…kids came after I already had a photography business up and running, and then eventually pivoting to being a Christian Business Coach. For others, your business might have come after you already had kids. Either way, our family has to be our first ministry. This is near and dear to my heart because it is so easy to get this out of balance. It’s easy to get hyper-focused on the work that needs to be done and at the same time avoid other important work we need to do. Listen in as we dive into habits that can help us balance this out. Different Seasons Call for Different Commitments As we build our businesses, we can set it up to work for our family and the rhythm of the school year. For me, summers and holidays are lowkey; I want to be fully present when my kids are home from school. Over the past 12 months, as I’ve scaled my business, I’ve made purposeful decisions to put my sales on evergreen so I’m able to step away from the work at different points in the year. Even in those seasons of stepping away, there are times I do get bored, but I’m working on staying present in the moment because you simply can’t push ahead 100% of the time. You Might Have to Re-Steer The Ship Even with purposeful planning, it’s easy for life to get out of balance. As we’re growing our business, we need to grow with flexibility, keeping sustainability in mind. It truly is a constant battle, even when we’re mindful. We must be mindful and purposeful about re-steering the ship when it gets off course and be encouraged that have the authority to be in control of our time and energy. Sometimes It’s Time to Let Go of Things Wisdom points to know when to let go, and let God do his thing. Sometimes we need to let go of parts of our business, people, and even money for what’s next. If it’s not a sustainable pace, it’s time to let it go! And even something that has worked in the past, it may no longer be beneficial for the current season. Stay focused. Pray. Running an online business is not all butterflies and rainbows, but I have managed to find a balance, rhythm and a freedom that makes it all worthwhile. There are seasons of hustle, but by creating good systems and working my hours around my family schedule, I have made a business that is profitable, flexible and life giving. Within 6 months of starting my business, I was able to work 20 hours a week and hit the 6-figure mark and I want to teach YOU to do the same in this most listened-to episode of my Christian Business Podcast! Scheduling If you have kids, it is best to create a work calendar that coincides with their school calendar. Then you have the flexibility to be less busy when they are home or on break. The beauty of an online business is that YOU control your hours, launches and busy seasons. Create a Support System There are going to be seasons in your business when you need more support, like during a big launch. Be sure to communicate with your spouse and family your expectations and needs ahead of time so they can adjust their schedule or help a little more with the kids or house. Clearly setting expectations in your marriage is key for making your business run smoothly as well. Ask for help! This might look like hiring extra childcare, a house cleaner or a virtual assistant. Discipline I love working and creating, but sometimes I need to take a step back and have discipline to say no or to stop working to spend more time with my family. Other times I need discipline to complete a big task or launch. This can be a tricky balance, but by taking a hard look at your priorities, you can figure out where you need to be most disciplined in order to have the balance you desire. Read More... If you are an online business owner and have ever wondered “where should I grow my business online?!?”, you aren’t alone! This is a common question for entrepreneurs and we’re going to tackle the answer today! Listen in on the Christian Business Podcast as we dive into three ways you can determine where you should show up online for growing a coaching business! There is a difference between Facebook and Instagram! They have different strategies; you aren’t going to do the same things on both platforms. Facebook is great for building and Instagram is great for personal branding, which is a great way for people to know, like, and trust you! But here’s the big secret: There is not one right way to build an online business and there isn’t one strategy that works perfectly for everyone. You have to do it the right way for YOU! Go Where God Called You Instead of guessing, listen to where God is calling you to go. He wants to partner with you in your business, so take time to ask. There are so many options–podcasting, FB ads, YouTube, Google Ads, Pinterest, etc…find out what is going to work best for you. For me, I love Facebook because I’ve been able to develop a community online through Facebook groups. That platform made the most sense for me. But you need to think about what’s going to work for you–where are you going to be most successful? Think About Your Industry Audiences in different industries hang out in different places online. Think about where the audience will be hanging out and where they are interacting. This can be a great place to start, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s where you have to end up! Serve Your Platform of Choice Well Wherever you decide to build your online presence, be sure you can do it faithfully! Your content matters more than anything, so don’t try to do too many things. Pick one thing and do it well. For me, I have found the secret sauce has been podcasting and FB Ads. You have to find what works for you and stick with it! In the end, seek out what God has asked you to do in the way he has asked you to do it for your online coaching business! Be faithful to the process and trust him to help you through it! You are in this business for a long haul, so trust the process, stay focused, and pick the platforms that are right for you!
