Behind The Scenes Bulletin - On Failure23 Feb 202400:04:56

Mishaps. Flops. Missteps. Things that don’t hit the mark and downright blunders. We all experience failures in life. This episode is a nod to this commonplace ‘event’ that dominates much of our waking thought.

In the Main Episode and the Behind The Scenes Bulletin you’ll learn about:

• Where the word failure comes from

• How the concept of failure has changed over time

• Why some schools need to redesign how they treat different ability groups

• Ways to rethink failure

• What the acronym FAIL means

• Three of my ‘bloopers’ from Season 2 and how they relate to failure

The Robins Curious Travels podcast is reviewed and why Seraphina wishes podcast producers would consult with children more.

In this episode you’ll hear from 1) my trusty sidekick triplet brothers Montgomery and Horatio and 2) former movie mogul now host of the podcast called Failure, Ryan Kavanaugh. They all share their views on Failure, in their own ways.

Behind The Scenes Bulletin - On Things I Don't Care About26 Oct 202300:04:20

Closing our this Season with a quick review of how featuring my triplet brothers, Montgomery and Horatio, is going. I couldn’t tell if it would be a smooth experience until I tried, obviously. You’ll hear my update on the situation in this tiny behind the scenes bulletin. Share your tips on managing your siblings to Seraphina@seraphinaspeaks.com

You’ll also learn that Seraphina Speaks is expanding to now work with sponsors as this show has grown even more popular. Plus if you’d like to know more about what I’m doing as a social commentator, come on over and subscribe to my Substack here

On Things I Don't Care About26 Oct 202300:17:36

Time is precious whatever our age. Wasting our time on conversation topics that bore us can feel pretty mindless. In todays episode I explore the idea of things I don’t care about. You’ll hear examples of conversations that fall into this category. My triplet brothers, Montgomery and Horatio will probably make you almost fall sleep UNLESS you’re into the topics they are passionate about. I find that hard to believe but it’s possible!

You’ll learn about one topic I drone on about to anyone who will listen. That’s also possibly a subject my family would say they don’t care about! Perhaps you have topics you like to talk over but secretly people roll their eyes about! We really do all have things we don’t care about.

If this is true, we might want to reflect on how we manage ourselves when people decide to share about things they care about but we don’t. I explore ways I deal with these situations and accept I may need to develop different strategies.

In this episode I also review the Growing Up Powerful Podcast from Rebel Girls. I’m a fan of Rebel Girls in general. I’m committed to examining things critically so you’ll hear the question I have about the hosts I can’t find the answer for online. It’s an important question. If you have the answer let me know.

I hope this episode sparks ideas for you . If it does, could this be the day you leave me a positive review on whichever podcast platform you prefer to listen in on?

And don't forget, if you want to get involved and join my correspondent team, all you have to do is leave a review for this show on your favorite podcast app (you name and what you like about this podcast) and send me a screenshot. Behind The Scenes Bulletin - On Reframing Bad Habits19 Oct 202300:06:34

Let’s make bad habits normal, could we agree on this?. In todays behind the scenes bulletin you’ll hear about even more so-called bad habits including how a particular one sparked a mega successful TV show.

You’ll learn why I believe that asking neurodiverse people to change bad habits may be unkind. Plus, I encourage listeners to start up conversations about reframing bad habits at school, at home and in friendship groups. Let me know about your bad habits and how you reframe them!!

On Reframing Bad Habits19 Oct 202300:16:40

Habits shape our behaviour. Bad habits; we all have them (apparently) and some people have several in their life. In this episode we consider a list of habits that kids display and how these are seen as bad, by grown ups. But what would it be like if we thought about these pesky habits differently?  Could this be possible, and if so, would reframing them make a difference to how we feel about ourselves?

Flipping the script on our bad habits can fill us full of hope and compassion for ourselves. I hope you start conversations about bad habits wherever you go. Tell me about your so-called bad habits and how you’re reframing them, at seraphina@seraphinaspeaks.com

In this episode I also share a review of Australian family podcast, Short & Curly. I’ve got to say this is the most entertaining philosophy podcast for kids I know. Ethicist Dr Matt Beard, one of the hosts, joins me to answer my question, "what’s been the toughest philosophical question" he’s considered on the Short & Curly show so far. His answer is fascinating.

I hope you find this episode thought provoking. If you do, consider leaving me a positive review on whichever podcast platform you prefer to listen in on.

And don't forget, if you want to get involved and join my correspondent team, all you have to do is leave a review for this show on your favorite podcast app (you name and what you like about this podcast) and send me a screenshot. Behind The Scenes Bulletin - On Pyjama Weirdisms 212 Oct 202300:02:30

Being a critical thinker is important. When we notice other people do things differently than ourselves we can find out why without making anyone wrong, or right. In this tiny behind the scenes bulletin I raise awareness of the responsibility brands have about this topic. I make a plea for gender fluid pyjamas - let me know your opinion on this!

On Pyjama Weirdisms 212 Oct 202300:11:48

In this episode, we explore one big pyjama issue. Can you believe this ordinary garment causes such a stir? Having covered pj storage and social norms of pyjama wearing in public in the last episode, we move onto something that adults get into a pickle about.

The focus of this show is on examining taken for granted things we do everyday. I prize apart basic assumptions. It’s important I mention this as today we are wondering about what people wear under their night wear. This is not out of any interest in anything other than why some people seem to wear undies underneath nightwear while other people do not.

This is a sensitive topic because my asking this question could be misunderstood. But that’s the thing, we need to talk about this as it seems like rules are being made up about what’s normal, what’s the ‘right’ thing to do, and why people wear what they wear!! Team undies, team no undies. Hear what my correspondents say too; isn’t it an interesting topic?!

The podcast review section today focuses on a big success of a show called Ear Snacks. It’s lively and fun and you’ll hear from the amazing hosts, Andrew and Polly. I cannot recommend this podcast enough - trust me, you’ll know why when you listen to my review.

I’d love to hear what you think of this episode. Is the topic hyped up too much? Why are grown ups getting heated about the subject? Feel free to write to me at seraphina@seraphinaspeaks.com

And don't forget, if you want to get involved and join my correspondent team, all you have to do is leave a review for this show on your favorite podcast app (tell me your name and why you like the show) and send me a screenshot. Then I'll be in touch with more information about coming on my show!

I hope you find this episode thought provoking. If you do, consider leaving me a positive review on whichever podcast platform you prefer to listen in on, even if you don’t want to become a correspondent.

Behind The Scenes Bulletin - On Pyjama Weirdisms 105 Oct 202300:02:58

There are ‘rules’ of society and actual legal rules. So while many frown about people wearing pyjamas in supermarkets, are there any actual laws stopping us from doing it?

In this behind the scenes bulletin the reality of bans on pj wearing while shopping is explored. How come there’s a big fat gap between what ordinary people on the the street can wear out in public, compared to celebrities who are celebrated for being out in their pyjamas? Let me know what you think!

On Pyjama Weirdisms 105 Oct 202300:11:11

In this episode, we explore the fascinating world of pyjamas and their significance throughout history. From their origins in India to their association with gender equality and liberation, pyjamas play a unique role in society, even now.

Seriously, who knew that these humble garments could bring big dilemmas and even some pretty significant double standards. It’s hard to imagine controversy around such cosy clothes, isn’t it?! Which is why bringing you two different debates in this episode on pyjamas is a great pleasure. In fact, I was wearing pyjamas as I recorded this episode for you!!

The podcast review section today focuses on a soothing self-development show called “Like You: Mindfulness for Kids". Noah, the host, boosts listeners mental health and wellness with gentle and thoughtful content delivered by one of the most calming voices you’re ever likely to hear. Highly recommended!

Back to pj’s. I'd love to hear where you store your pyjamas during the day. Do you keep them under your pillow like some people (including me) do? Or maybe you have a special place in your dresser for them? Of course, if you wear yours out in public I’d love to hear about that too!

Behind The Scenes Bulletin - On Adult Sayings That Make No Sense28 Sep 202300:03:18

Honesty is the best policy, I’m told. This behind the scenes bulletin pretty well tests out that idea and stretches what’s okay to divulge. Maybe this will be tame for you, maybe not. On Adult Sayings That Make No Sense28 Sep 202300:14:06

There’s so much to learn when it comes to the English language and it’s cram full with colourful sayings. If you’re an English native speaker, you’ve probably learned plenty of them by some kind of osmosis. In this episode I unpack the idea that there isn’t logic behind some of these sayings. I’m here to tell you there really are English sayings that adults use that just don’t make any sense. Tell me this isn’t the bittersweet truth Listeners: You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Thrilled to also bring you a review of a wonderful podcast for families. I’m joined by multi-talented host of Dorktales Storytime, Jonathan Cormur, who answers my question about a hidden hero in his life. He bounces the question back to me which was easy to answer. I let you know about the hidden and rather special hero in my life. You might not guess what this is! Behind The Scenes Bulletin - On My Anime Soapbox21 Sep 202300:03:16

Being a good girl brings rules. One of them is to follow the lead of ‘sensible’ adults. In this micro behind the scenes bulletin you’ll hear one big question that’s behind grown-ups worries about anime. I give my opinion on it. Enough of me, I’d like to hear your thoughts whether you’re a tween/young teen or a parent of one. Send your response to land in my email at seraphina@seraphinaspeaks.com

On My Anime Soapbox21 Sep 202300:09:51

Be warned, I couldn’t resist getting up on my anime soapbox. It’s just one of those misunderstood things in life, rather like getting to grips with the info that tomatoes are fruit not vegetables. For some people that comes as a shocker. Anime too is not all it seems, and in this episode, I raise questions about the way it’s portrayed. Don’t worry I also talk about concerning features of ‘some’ anime. You’ll hear that I dedicate lots of focus to finding age appropriate anime so that I protect myself from unsuitable material.

As ever, I’m joined by my trusty triplet brother sidekicks, Montgomery and Horatio, as well as welcoming Alice, a new correspondent to Seraphina Speaks. She contributes her thoughtful take on anime and I’m grateful she came on the show. Don’t forget you can become a correspondent too.

It’s also my first review of another podcast for families in today’s episode as I share my thoughts on The Ten News show. Introducing listeners to other podcasts is something I know is important. Creator and producer of The Ten News, Tracy Leeds Kaplan, is my fab guest.

I hope you find this episode enjoyable, and thought provoking. If you do, consider leaving me a positive review on whichever podcast platform you choose to listen in on.

On Being a Tween: HAIR14 Sep 202300:08:35

Each season I’ll be bringing you a Being A Tween episode dedicated to a different topic I think is worthy of attention. The first one in this series covers hair growth, just not on our heads. This is a much-ignored subject in conversation and on podcasts but is something tween kids, like me, are often experiencing. Expect to hear my personal story of Bob the lone long hair who grew and grew and was eventually joined by ‘friends’. My trusty triplet sidekick brothers Montgomery & Horatio ask questions about my hair growth as I recount why I’m choosing to share about this, despite it being an exposing subject.

I hope you find this episode enjoyable, and thought provoking. If you do, consider leaving me a positive review on whichever podcast platform you choose to listen in on.

Welcome to this tiny bulletin where I share an inside track on Episode 1, Seraphina Speaks Grows Up. This episode is more like planting a seed. Seraphina Speaks Grows Up07 Sep 202300:06:22

After a good ‘ol sabbatical I’m bringing you this brand new updated Seraphina Speaks show. I’ve grown up quite a lot, and so has my podcast. I’m back at my mic bringing you content especially for tweens and early teens. Each episode questions social norms in some way. It’s the ordinary things we take for granted that shape how we live, what we believe in and our views on the world.

In this first episode you’ll hear what topics  I’ll be sharing with you in SEASON ONE. I also let you know about different segments in the podcast and who you can expect to hear from. I’ve got guests, and other kids coming on the show too. Big Hint: I’m on the lookout for your voice so if you’d like to feature on Seraphina Speaks tune in to find out how we can make that happen. And finally, I’ve also made super short behind the scenes bulletin episodes after each episode. My learning. The bits that didn’t make it. That kind of thing. Listen in for the lowdown.

Can’t wait to hear what you think about my updated Seraphina Speaks. Write to me at: seraphina@seraphinaspeaks.com

SAFETY21 Aug 202200:04:02

Today I’m talking about different kinds of safety. Most of us take our safety for granted. But that’s not the reality for lots of people. It’s a difficult topic and I don’t go into detail. Honest. If you feel a bit jangled for whatever reason scroll back in my podcast episodes to one called HOLIDAY MEDITATION and that should help  you transport yourself to another place.

Behind The Scenes Bulletin - On Questions to Ask Tweens + Teens08 Feb 202400:04:36

The answers you get depend on the questions you pose. This episode is about the questions grown ups ask vs the ones that might be better to ask tweens and teens.

In the Main Episode and the Behind The Scenes Bulletin you’ll learn about:

• The type of questions adults ask

• How the question mark came about

• What an Interrobang is

• Why adults might be asking the questions they ask

• Sample questions to steal and try out

• How to tell the difference between questions that tweens/teens would answer and those that adults ask

• How great questions help creativity

The Culture Kids family friendly podcast is reviewed and you’ll hear about the episode Seraphina recommends you listen to.

In this episode you’ll hear from 1) my trusty sidekick triplet brother Montgomery but not Horatio and 2) Jamie Shiels co-host of 18 Summers Podcast for Parents. They all share their views on Questions To Ask Tweens and Teens, in their own ways.
