Domain Authority is a big one we treated twice on SEO Conspiracy.

LSI Keywords, TF IDF and a couple more are SEO Urban Legends born from we don’t know

where.

Especially LSI Keywords is not a good idea to use in your SEO Strategy. Google does not use

Latent Semantic Indexing or Latent Semantic Analysis. These algorithms are interesting, but it’s

useless and careless to play with them for Google SEO.

Beyond using bad data, don’t use SEO myths, if you want to be taken seriously by SEO who

know what’s up.

Exit Ben Gomes and Jeff Dean because Google’s attempt to AI in Search does
not work very well.
Here comes Prabhakar Raghavan, a 30 years veteran in the search engine
industry.
For the first time, one individual is heading the entire scope of Search, Ads and
Google Assistant.
The era of integration is coming. AI needs to be more effective and robust in the
search engine, but mobile is an even bigger challenge. Everybody is fighting for
attention inside the mobile and Google needs to make some big moves now.
Google Ads is doing well. However, it seems stuck in the past. Nothing really new
and groundbreaking comes out of Google’s advertising platform. Then, there is
Google Assistant. Voice Search was supposed to change everything, but the
technology is not yet ready to impress.

We take a search engine like Google for granted. It’s been there for 20 years and it delivers a lot
of value. Also, it’s free!
When you look from the other side, from the inside of how a search engine works, things start to
get complicated.
Google and Bing started to crawl the Web early, in the 90’s.
Other search engines like Qwant, Mojeek and even Apple started not long ago.
Can they catch up? Is the Web so big and growing so fast that it’s technically impossible to start
from scratch today?
Even Google seems to struggle with the mobile index. It was supposed to launch during the fall
of 2020 and it’s delayed until spring 2021.

Domain Authority in SEO is a BAD idea

Many SEO tools use something called Domain Authority to evaluate the « power » of a domain.

First, Google interprets the Web on a page level. If you really believe Domain Authority is useful, focus on Page Authority or whatever is analyzed on a URL level, instead of the overall domain.

Second, Domain Authority scores on a SEO tool is always a magic soup cooked by SEO druids.

They never explain exactly how the score is calculated. There are no scientific and reliable sources to legitimate the results.

Reverse engineering Google’s algorithm is not impossible. Search engines have done it. Some SEO pretend they did it. Others prove they did.

The way you approach the challenge is very important.

Also, at the end of the day, the most important factor is : does it work?

Whatever SEO tool or strategy you use must deliver results. Like I always say : proof is on the screen.

The topic of #DomainAuthority for #SEO on #Google was the very first podcast we recorded. Since it's one of the major Search Engine Optimization myths, we thought it was a good idea to put another dent into it.

Scientific papers, studies, patents, and any knowledge shared about Search Engine.
Optimization is interesting.

However, there are different types of sources, more or less reliable. For example, I don’t value a Ranking Factors Study by an SEO like a publication from Stanford University or Google Labs.

There is no doubt about the value of Bill Slawski’s work on his blog

There is tons of doubt when it comes to the SEO who analyzed a million URLs and found the secret of how to rank #1 on Google. 

The same goes for SEO, which tells you how to increase your
traffic by 257% in less than 30 days. 

The problem is elsewhere.
It’s about how YOU use this data, how you absorb this knowledge? How are you able to sort out the BS from the legit information?
These studies, patents, or scientific papers will make you a better Search Engine Optimizer if you use them right. When you know how to take in the information and use it effectively in your work, it’s like magic. Suddenly, you got it. You know how and what to feed Google. 

When I started in 2004, we didn’t have anything to figure out how to get results. We figured it out along the way by sharing what worked and didn’t. It might be hard to imagine the Internet without this abundance of knowledge. There is too much. Since SEO didn’t exist before, you couldn’t find a resource that will help you understand. You had to grab breadcrumbs where you could and assemble the puzzle on your own. Nowadays, there is so much information about SEO that it’s complicated to know the good stuff from the useless crap. SEO Conspiracy was born from this fact. I wanted to sort out the mess, sharing my truth about Google, Search Engine Optimization and Digital Marketing in general.

flaws in Google’s system.
Black Hat SEO is a tool to achieve results, to rank high on Google.
Unless tactics cross over to the hacking side, there is nothing illegal about Black Hat SEO.
Sure, it’s against Google Guidelines, but it’s not the law.

There’s so many times when cloaking is appropriate but in Google’s eyes, is it ever justified ?

When you go over the line, it's because you touched one single element of the content. But if you only touch the internal linking, the structure of the website, you can do, for example, a mobile version and a desktop version. That’s working, you’re delivering different content to the desktop user and the mobile user. It’s white hat cloaking because it’s only the internal links, not the outbound links.

Since Google came out with the Search Console and advised to upload an XML SiteMap file, nobody cares about old school HTML SiteMap.

We got news for you, if you believed XML SiteMap has any kind of value for SEO.

It might help you control website health in the Search Console, but won’t help you rank better in Google. Eventually, it might help new URLs get discovered, but it won’t guarantee indexing.

Furthermore, we always knew how to index web pages, long before XML SiteMap appeared.

Then there is the forgotten HTML SiteMap.

The best solution is to adopt a smart internal linking strategy, like Dixon and I advise.

An HTML SiteMap can’t compare with the Topical Mesh, but it will have more power for SEO than the XML version.

Don’t believe the hype. Abandoning HTML SiteMap over XML is the wrong move.

In this podcast, we explore the place of Google, the search engine, inside the vision of the Alphabet Inc., the mothership company of all Google properties.

Google, the search engine, is the focus of my industry, SEO and Digital Marketing.

Without Google, I would be doing something else for a living. Since 2004, I eat and breath Google 24/7.

However, when we look at the big picture, things are a lot different. I dissect every single Quaterly report of Alphabet Inc. 

Every time, I look for whatever could be said about Google, the search engine. It is striking to observe how Google is completely invisible in the vision of the mothership company Alphabet. 

We know that Google Ads is the most important part of the ecosystem. That's the money-making entity of Alphabet. Then, we can analyze how Alphabet emphasizes different businesses, like Gsuite or the Cloud. For sure, Alphabet talks a lot more about the Cloud than Search.

Also, what is left of the search engine in the founders mind, Sergei Brin and Larry Page?

I know for a fact that they are totally disconnected from what is literally only a College project for them. Sure, they made tons of money with Google, but can you really stay tuned in forever with something you worked on during your College years?

Furthermore, what Google are we talking about? There is a search engine. There is an advertising company. There is a ton of cash for Larry Page and Sergei Brin to play masters of the world and make geeky dreams become reality.

If you want to reverse engineer Google you need to know how many ranking factors there are in the algorithm. Along the way, someone said that there were 200 ranking signals in the algorithm but in reality they're testing a lot more and the algorithm is changing seven things a day so that's a hell of a lot more than 200 factors.

There is something really wrong, going on in the Search industry since its early days.

As Digital Marketing professionals, we own the keys to a fabulous territory called Internet.

We know how to make people, companies and organizations famous Online.

We can help clients make millions of whatever currency you prefer.

However, there is really bad habit of overpromising and underdelivering, especially in the low budget category of clients.

Agencies and some freelancers put in place a system where there is enough client satisfaction to keep on pouring money months after months into a strategy doomed to fail.

Some faults are most definitely on the client’s side, mostly for lack of education.

Most of the fault is on the professionals side because they take the money, but don’t deliver anything good enough to build a reasonable business for the client.

Especially e-commerce is a guaranteed graveyard for so many people. They dream of the wonders of Internet, but are not put in front of the reality.

Grabbing attention of your customer is not easy. With the right assets and the right strategy, it works. No doubt about it, there are amazing success stories all around to legitimate that the Internet is a wonderful place to strive in business.

On the other hand, loads of dreamers are taken advantage of because they have no clues about what they are getting into.

I don’t pretend to have a solution to the problem, but I kept my mouth shut for too long.

We need to stop overpromising and underdelivering.

To build a better industry, we should underpromise and overdeliver.

At least, that’s how I do it. I guarantee that the strategy and ressources allocation will bring results, often way beyond the wildest dreams of the client.

Also, I’m guilty sometimes of taking the money, knowing that the client has very little chance of making it. It happened, but I didn’t put in place an entire system to fuel my agency’s uncontrolled rapid growth.

This is important. 

It’s never brought up in any public debate, but it’s not serving our industry to let this bad system go on unnoticed.

The SEO industry complaining about Google has reached an all-time high.

The question of today is: are Google guidelines the law? What are you supposed to do with it? Should you follow it? Should you make your own rule?

In my opinion, there's Google law, and then there's the real law, and they're not the same thing.

Also, from a Black Hat perspective, it's very easy to cross the line. Sometimes, you can be the best white hat we ever seen and still doing something forbidden because Google someday changed this rule and you didn't know. So you're still doing the same thing but Google changed a line and now you're a Black Hat.

Today it becomes almost impossible not to be a Black Hat if you follow the strictest guidelines.

PBN (Private Blogs Network) is the most powerful weapon for SEO on Google. Everybody is just doing it wrong.

The link building strategy called PBN (Private or Public Blogs Network) has been accessible for years amongst the SEO industry.
Because following Google Guidelines will not work for 99% of SEO, digital marketers or website owners, manipulation Google Pagerank is mandatory.
Organically acquiring backlinks is possible. However, it’s reserved for the Top 1% of the content creators pyramid.
Since I’m a content creator since 2004, I know what it means to climb up that pyramid.
Moreover, I create content in text, image, vidéo, and audio format. Thus, I build up more pyramids to climb.
Even if I dig Content Marketing, and becoming a full-on media agency, I never forget where I come from.
At the core, I’m a Search Engine Hacker. I’m over the monetization part of Black Hat SEO, but I believe some strategies are still very much relevant.

I won’t call it PBN. I will refer to the ancestral LinkWheel or the Private Links Network.
Why? Because I don’t do Blogs in my Linkwheel.

Also, the sites I put out don’t smell SEO from 100 miles away.
Variation is the name of the game. You have to simulate what’s
going on in the wild, on the Web.
Globally, I recommend one third to one-half of your referring
domains to be legit.
Then, from one quarter to one-third needs to be a private links
network.
The rest will be links you can put here and there.

In this podcast, I explain how to set up a robust network of websites dedicated to pushing your leading money site.
There is nothing groundbreaking to bring up, but I’ve been doing SEO since 2004.
Since I started with Black Hat SEO while working towards legit Content Marketing, I can assess the strengths and weaknesses of the full spectrum.
Linkbuilding is the most potent weapon in your Search Engine Optimization arsenal. Do an excellent job in link building, and you will get results.
Be smart about how you acquire backlinks, and you will last. In my opinion, there is nothing better than a Private Links Network, LinkWheel or Private Blogs Network (if you insist on calling it PBN).

Like always, I’m not keeping anything for myself. I am laying it all out like it is.
I will even explain how to deal with an eventual Google penalty.

It showed a grade, from 0 to 10, which told the PageRank of any URL.

Since the notion of E.A.T. (Expertise, Authority, Trust) appeared in the Google Guidelines for Quality Raters, the SEO Community became frantic about it.
