017. A Perfumer's World: Decolonising the Fragrance Industry Pt. 2
Episode 17
mercredi 17 janvier 2024 • Duration 52:51
In this second of a special two-parter on the work of Yosh Han, a scent artist known for her elaborate moving image landscapes and public sculptures, we talk about the matter of olfactory energetics. Yosh has a unique vantage on the global landscape of the fragrance industry, and her ongoing work to decolonise the fragrance Industry is the subject this time.
This episode is anchored in her work with the Scent Festival platform and her pursuit to address its "O" word terminology. But it also points out the greater systematic connections between Eurocentric fragrance naming, material sourcing, and capitalism, which impacts wealth and power dynamics in the fragrance industry.
Her collaboration of the senses in future-focused olfactory projects unveils multisensory experiences to better know our world, and ourselves.

mardi 19 juillet 2022 • Duration 14:07
Smell was the vital sensory pulse of ancient Egyptian life. In this week's episode, I share the path that led me to research ancient cosmetic and perfume practices, discovering how ancient Egyptian perfume artefacts were made and used for both religious and personal use.
In 2019, my research into olfactory wearable technologies brought me to make ancient Egyptian perfume cones, temple incenses and oils. What did ancient egypt smell like? Anyone interested in the art of fragrance might almost smell the ancient Egyptian perfume wafting from the speakers.
