And over 16 years I now have thousands of those stories that I treasure.  Every story, every success, is another reminder of the great things God can do. Looking back, it's pretty amazing seeing what God has done the last 16 years.

But, it never should have happened…

The unlikely story of SeedTime

On June 1st, 2007, SeedTime (or originally ChristianPF.com) was born. 

It was just a little blog where I shared the personal finance lessons I was learning along with what I was finding in the Bible about money. 

At the time I was stuck in a dead-end job and felt hopeless about my career and my ability to make any sort of impact in the world.

And I had this pipe-dream that one day we could earn enough from the blog to eat and live indoors. 

But the odds were terrible. 

At the time earning money from a blog was incredibly difficult.  In fact, in 2007 I literally was only aware of 2 bloggers in the entire world that were earning anything close to a full-time income from blogging.

And my millionaire mentor, who had taught me so much about money, told me going full-time as a blogger was a terrible idea.

And He was right. 

But here’s the thing. The Bible is full of “terrible ideas” that just happened to be exactly what God wanted. 

Here’s one: “Hey, I have a military strategy for you. Just march around the city 7 times and then yell real loud. Oh and if it doesn’t work, you’ll probably die.”

God seems to love to use “terrible ideas” because no one can take credit for it when it works out.

Today Linda and I are going into the full story of how SeedTime began.  

• How we went from being the financial messes that we were to following God into the unknown

• How we handled “stepping out of the boat” after I got laid off and became a “full-time blogger”.

A few days ago President Biden initiated a new federal rule could raise the monthly mortgage payments of buyers with good credit scores (680+) by over $60 a month…

And when I first saw this I thought for a minute it was a Babylon Bee headline. Turns out it isn’t, but is from Newsweek.

When I was 13 years old, I spent every dollar I earned on golf. I would play two or three times a week and became a pretty good golfer for my age. While I liked golf, it was never really my favorite sport. But my identity had become wrapped up in it, so I kept playing. It was what I and others had come to expect.

As I got older, it dawned on me that spending all my money on a hobby just because I had an aptitude for it or because it was what I was known for didn’t make much sense. So, even though it wasn’t easy, I laid down that part of my identity.

Additionally, over the years, I began better aligning my hobbies with my goals by asking these questions:

1. What if I chose hobbies that weren’t inherently expensive?

2. What if I chose hobbies that could make me healthier?

3. What if I chose hobbies that would generate income?

When I started asking these questions, I began to see hobbies in a different light. Instead of paying $50 a round to play golf, I could play tennis for free, spend less on equipment, and get better exercise. 

So our discussion today isn’t to try to get you to lay down hobbies you love, but instead to evaluate them from time to time to make sure they are still serving you well.

Today I'm sharing 4 different ways that I've been using a new AI tool called Chat GPT for Bible study. It's a really fascinating tool and I'm excited to share with you to see how it can help you out in your Bible study.

Chat GPT is a free AI tool that that has infinite possibilities, but today we are talking specifically about how we can use it to help us quickly search for Bible verses, generate summaries or outlines of Bible passages and even answer questions about what was going on in the world when a specific book of the Bible was written.

It's been a great tool to help me in my Bible study and you might find it helpful as well.

The first way I've been using it is to ask, "What does the Bible say about blank?" This has been really helpful to quickly search for different Bible verses on a specific topic. All you have to do is type in the topic and it will spit out different Bible verses that relate to it.

The second way I've been using Chat GPT is to ask, "Are there any Bible verses that support this “blank”?" I can paste in a section of text I wrote and it will provide me with Bible verses that can help support my point. This has been really helpful because sometimes there are verses that I can't remember but this tool can help me out.

The third way I've been using Chat GPT is to generate summaries or outlines of specific Bible passages. For example, I asked it "What's the meaning of the parable of the talents?" and it provided me with a great summary of the parable and the lesson it teaches us.
