As PAC money pours in, two Democrats fight to represent the Eastside24 oct. 202600:35:54

Today, we’re helping you prep for next month’s election with KUOW’s “Soundside.”

One of the closest races in Washington state elections this year is between two Democrats on the Eastside…

Despite their party alignment, they disagree on a key issue facing the state.

Following a “no” vote on Washington’s millionaires tax in March, incumbent state house Representative Amy Walen (WALL-in) found she was facing a challenge from her own party, from Redmond city council member Jessica Forsythe.

A measly 17 votes separated the two candidates in the primary.

Meanwhile, the race has attracted hundreds of thousands of dollars of independent expenditures in support of both campaigns.

They’re vying to represent the 48th Legislative District, one of the wealthiest districts in the state which includes parts of Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, and all of Clyde Hill, Medina, Yarrow Point, and Hunts Point.

Walen and Forsythe answered questions about their candidacy as part of a debate moderated by Soundside’s David Kroman.

The debate over I-645, WA’s “millionaire’s tax”10 oct. 202600:35:01

Today, we’re helping you prep for next month’s election with KUOW’s “Soundside.”

The fate of the high earners income tax, sometimes called the “Millionaire’s Tax," is in the hands of Washington voters.

As the legal battle continues, Soundside brought in two experts to debate Initiative 645.

Gov. Ferguson isn't granting early prison releases. Some are losing hope.05 oct. 202600:20:46

Washington state does not have a system for parole.

That doesn’t leave many options for someone serving a long sentence to earn an early release.

An important one is a form of clemency called commutation. Since Governor Bob Ferguson took office, he has denied every request for it so far.

We’ll get into what that means with InvestigateWest reporter Moe Clark.

Information about tonight's community engagement meeting with Superintendent Ben Shuldiner can be found here.

But now, that area is slated for development, and some residents are pushing back on what that could mean for the character of the city and its wildlife. Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Elena Neale-Sacks reports.
