Bride of Chucky (1998): Episode 1627 Feb 202501:06:37

In this episode, I have Lance from slashers podcast as my guest. We dive into the meta universe that is the horror genre in the late 90's. With influences from the Scream franchise, Chucky gets funny with horror references throughout the film. We also talk about the themes of toxic relationships and revenge. For my true horror's connection, I go over a condition called hybristophilia. A condition where people are attracted to criminals. I also draw comparisons between the fictional killer couple and a couple known as the Lonely Hearts Killers.

The Cabin in the Woods (2011): Episode 1813 Mar 202501:08:36

In this episode, I talk horror with my friend Sara Michelle Owner of @butcheredwaifuoddities. We discuss the horror comedy that crams the most references you will ever see on the horror genre in one film. A group of kids go to a remote cabin in the woods where their fate is unknowingly controlled by technicians as part of a world-wide conspiracy where all horror movie clichés are revealed to be part of an elaborate sacrifice ritual. For the true horrors, much of Drew Goddard's inspiration for this movie came from his own upbringing in Los Alamos, New Mexico, a place filled with scientists and co-workers all going about their business and living seemingly routine and ordinary lives even though they were building nuclear weapons that could potentially destroy the entire world. I get into the Manhattan Project Trinity Test.

Carrie (1976): Episode 2103 Apr 202501:09:51

My theme for April is April Fuels Fury and I'm kicking this theme off with the classic horror film Carrie. She is a shy girl that doesn't fit in because of her sheltered life with a religious zealot of a mother. Through the trauma of being bullied at school and constantly punished by her mother, Carrie gains telekinetic powers. She is asked to the prom where she loses control of her new powers. For the true horrors, I cover the people from Stephen Kings past that he used as reference when creating Carrie and her mother. For the true horrors, I connect the opening scene of this movie to the case of Dennis DePue, a former Michigan Property Assessor who murdered his wife and was seen by witnesses near an old schoolhouse with a bloody sheet.

A leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when a group of friends and a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins. M.F.A. Mastering the Fine Art of Revenge (2017): Episode 2424 Apr 202501:23:57

his week, I delve into one of the most emotionally raw rape-revenge thrillers of the 2010s — M.F.A. starring Francesca Eastwood as Noelle, an art student whose life is shattered after a brutal assault. But when the system fails her, she doesn’t just seek justice… she becomes it.

We break down how M.F.A. flips the revenge narrative on its head with haunting realism and feminist fury — and I make connects to the true horror of the Brock Turner case, where a convicted rapist served just three months in jail after being caught assaulting an unconscious woman behind a dumpster.

What happens when a survivor stops waiting for justice and starts creating her own?

Trigger warning: this episode includes discussions of sexual assault, trauma, and real-life rape cases.

Hard Candy (2005): Episode 2317 Apr 202501:38:35

In this episode, I cover the movie Hard Candy (2005) with my guest Melanie from Screen queen reviews. This is a horror/psychological thriller that forces us to confront the blurred lines between justice, vengeance, and manipulation. Through the cat-and-mouse game between Hayley and Jeff, we explore the film’s raw depiction of sexual predation, the illusion of control, and the disturbing power dynamics rooted in grooming.

But the horror doesn’t stop on screen.

I draw unsettling parallels between the film’s narrative and the modern digital landscape—where platforms like Roblox, designed for children, have become breeding grounds for predators hiding behind avatars.

Trigger Warning: Discussions include grooming, sexual exploitation, and abuse.

Jennifer's Body (2009): Episode 2210 Apr 202501:09:20

In this episode, I take a critical lens to Jennifer’s Body (2009) with guest Grim Thrall, examining how the film reclaims horror tropes to explore themes of female autonomy, societal objectification, and the commodification of violence against women. Often misunderstood upon release, Diablo Cody’s screenplay now stands as a biting (and blood-soaked) commentary on adolescence, desire, and betrayal.

We draw connections between the film’s narrative and the real-life murder of Elyse Pahler, whose death was allegedly cited as inspiration for the film. Elyse’s case—marked by ritualistic violence, misogyny, and media sensationalism—mirrors the exploitation and erasure that Jennifer’s Body critiques through its subversive storytelling.

The Curse of La Llorona (2019): Episode 2608 May 202501:10:26

Echoes of La Llorona (Mother’s Day Special):

This Mother’s Day, I’m joined by my own mom to explore the legend of La Llorona and her eerie connection to real-life cases like Juana Leija and Andrea Yates. We dive into how maternal grief, myth, and murder intersect in haunting and heartbreaking ways.

28 Days Later: Episode 3005 Jun 202501:00:04

In this week’s episode, we dive into Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later—a haunting portrayal of a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a rage virus. But the real terror isn’t just the infected—it’s what happens when humanity loses its moral compass. As survivors clash with soldiers in a crumbling society, we’re forced to ask: What are people capable of when the rules disappear?

This discussion takes a sobering turn as we connect the film’s themes to the real-life horror faced by comfort women—women and girls who were systematically abducted, trafficked, and sexually enslaved by the Japanese military during World War II. Through this lens, we explore the weaponization of women’s bodies, the myth of protection by military power, and how rage—real or viral—has been used to justify violence against the vulnerable.

Friday the 13th: Episode 2904 Jun 202500:53:09

Before Jason picked up the machete, it was his mother doing the killing.

In this episode, we unravel the twisted heart of Friday the 13th: Pamela Voorhees—a mother driven mad by grief, guilt, and revenge. Often overlooked, she was horror’s first slasher villain in the franchise, turning maternal instinct into murderous rage.

But the horror doesn’t stop at Crystal Lake. We dive into the real-life Lake Bodom murders of 1960 in Finland, where three teenagers were brutally killed while camping. Like Pamela’s rampage, the case centers around youth, isolation, and unanswered grief—and remains one of Europe’s most haunting unsolved crimes.

Rosemary's Baby (1968): Episode 2822 May 202500:57:57

In this episode of Scream Queen Podcast, we dive into Rosemary’s Baby—a haunting tale of paranoia, gaslighting, and control. As Rosemary navigates a pregnancy surrounded by manipulative neighbors and a disturbingly distant husband, the line between reality and nightmare blurs. We explore the film’s themes of bodily autonomy, misogyny, and what happens when no one believes you—drawing eerie parallels to real-life true crime cases.

Hereditary (2018): Episode 2715 May 202501:10:16

In this episode, I’m diving into Hereditary—Ari Aster’s devastating portrait of grief, generational trauma, and the terrifying legacy we can’t outrun. I’m joined by my sisters for a raw, personal conversation about how mental health issues have impacted our own family tree. From dissociation to depression, we unpack how Hereditary uses horror to mirror the quiet, inherited struggles so many families keep behind closed doors.

28 Weeks Later: Episode 3112 Jun 202500:36:55

In this episode, I cover 28 Weeks Later, a zombie sequel that feels far too real in today’s world. As the infected rage through London, it’s not just the virus that spreads—it's fear, control, and violence. We explore how the film’s depiction of military forces turning on civilians echoes real-life moments. When survival becomes policy, who gets protected—and who gets sacrificed?

Dawn of The Dead (1978): Episode 3220 Jun 202501:12:30

In this episode, we dig deep into George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978). A blood-soaked critique of consumerism, collapsing institutions, and the eerie numbness we’ve built around violence. But beneath the gore and the ghouls lies something even darker: the real-world horrors of the Vietnam War.

We explore how Romero channeled the chaos and brutality of the war, not just in his depiction of zombie carnage, but in the way, Dawn mirrors America’s media-saturated descent into desensitization. From the opening scenes in a panicked news studio, to the militarized police raids, and the cold efficiency of televised death; Romero’s zombies are us.

Day of The Dead (1985): Episode 3326 Jun 202501:19:08

In this episode of Scream Queen Podcast, we descend into the claustrophobic tunnels of Day of the Dead. George A. Romero’s bleakest version in the Dead Series. I also draw true crime parallels to the case of Andrew Brannan, a decorated Vietnam veteran whose untreated PTSD led to a tragic and violent encounter decades after the war. This episode explores the cost of survival, the brutality of institutional control, and the terrifying consequences of untreated trauma.

My guest for this episode is Robbie Dorman. A horror author and Co-host of @cultvideovault and The Simpsons Show.

Scream (1996): Episode 3724 Jul 202501:04:33

In this episode of Scream Queen Podcast, we’re dialing into the ultimate teen slasher of the '90s, Wes Craven’s Scream. With its razor-sharp meta-commentary, iconic Ghostface mask, and rule-breaking final girl, Scream didn’t just revive the slasher genre, it redefined it.

But behind the clever dialogue and bloody set pieces lies a real-world horror. We dive into one of the horrors references The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Inspired by Texarkana Moonlight Murders, a series of unsolved killings in 1946 that haunted a small town. That film’s influence echoed all the way into Scream’s meta-universe.

A newlywed couple moves into a charming Long Island house with a dark past, only to face terrifying supernatural events that threaten their sanity and lives. The haunting grows more violent each day, revealing the home’s gruesome history of murder and possession. What truly happened in that house remains debated, hoax, hysteria, or haunting? Listen as my guest Colby and I tally up points to determine the truth.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991): Episode 3807 Aug 202501:17:00

In this episode, we find ourselves in the mind of a killer and face one of the most iconic duos in cinema history: Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The Silence of the Lambs (1991) redefined the serial killer thriller and felt more real than other depictions of serial killers. Listen as I analyze the themes of this film and the extensive research done to create the almost perfect predator.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill are a culmination of serial killers. Just like the skin suit being crafted by Buffalo Bill, his character was patched together with characteristics from serial killers Ed Gein, Ted Bundy, Gary Heidnik, and Edmund Kemper. Dr. Hannibal Lecter is fashioned after Albert Fish, Ed Kemper, and Dr. Alfredo Ballí Treviño.
