The Scottish government has declared a housing emergency, raising urgent questions about the factors driving this crisis. In this episode, Anna and Cameron analyse the shortage of affordable rental homes, particularly in rural areas where depopulation is an escalating concern, exploring whether recent rent control measures may be exacerbating the issue. The conversation discusses the newly passed Agriculture and Rural Communities Bill in Scotland. It also highlights the opportunities for Scottish Land & Estates (SLE) members to engage with government workshops and support schemes. SLE played a role in advocating for changes in the bill, such as including food security reporting and supporting integrated land management.
