I get into Never After Dark, Other Mommy, Robert Eggers' new werewolf movie, Black Zombie, Hollow Warrior, and Anna Biller's The Face of Horror. There's also some Mike Flanagan and Dark Tower news, horror fashion, American Horror Story, and a little Widow's Bay Emmy celebration.

Then I listen to your suggestions on Scarah's Scary Hotline for my October Scream Theatre screening, including Terrifier, All Hallows' Eve, Ju-On, and some other possibilities.

This week I'm joined by my friend Joel Robertson, film programmer, movie reviewer, physical media collector, musician, and video store purveyor at Austin's We Love Video.

Joel and I have a lot in common, especially our love of showing movies to an audience and then getting up there to talk about them. We talk about his Odd World screening series, the history of We Love Video, and why places where movie people can actually get together still matter. Joel describes We Love Video as both a video store and a community space, with around 30,000 movies and its own 35-seat microcinema.

We also get into physical media and why Joel thinks it's more important than ever to actually own the movies you care about. Then we complain about what happened to the Alamo Drafthouse, talk Tubi, documentaries, movie collecting, his reviews at Moving Picture House, and his band Hounding.

Plus Bone Deep, where Joel landed right at 50%, and some very entertaining messages on Scarah's Scary Hotline.

This week I'm joined by filmmaker J.M. Logan, and this guy has some STORIES.

J.M. has worked on more than 100 films over the last three decades, but he got an especially wild start: at just 19, he worked on Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, where he created all three of Leatherface's looks — including the Pretty Lady mask. And when they needed somebody to actually be Leatherface for part of the chase? Yep. He did that too.

We talk about growing up in Austin obsessed with making movies, practical effects and animatronics, working with Screaming Mad George, The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto, and what decades behind the scenes taught him about actually getting a movie made.

Then we get into Josh's new adventure-horror feature The Relic: Dragon, the beginning of his planned Relic Universe. We talk monsters, cosmic horror, practical effects, indie filmmaking and why he decided that everyone who worked on the movie should share in its success.
