A Minnesota mother accused of using racial slurs against a 5-year-old Black child at a playground has raised over $500,000 for herself on an online fundraiser. The woman, who identified herself as Shiloh Hendrix, has now increased her fundraising goal to $1 million on a crowdfunding site. Hendrix was caught on camera hurling racial slurs at the 5-year-old boy in a now-viral video at a park in Rochester. She claims the 5-year-old stole items from her son’s diaper bag. Regarding the slurs, she wrote on her fundraiser, “I called the kid out for what he was.”

A man is facing charges of murder almost a month after a woman was found unresponsive and severely injured in a Denton home and later died. Michael Tooley, 53, has been in the custody of Denton County jail on an unrelated warrant since July 24, one day after Dylan Gurley, 20, died, Denton police said. About 11:10 p.m. July 23, Gurley was found unresponsive with traumatic injuries in an abandoned home in the 3700 block of Holland Lane.

It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the tragic loss of Vanity Williams, an Air Force veteran and nursing student, who was recently murdered in Texas. Vanity is the third victim in Texas and the 25th transgender individual to be violently killed this year. This heartbreaking statistic is a stark reminder of the pervasive violence that continues to threaten the lives of transgender individuals, particularly African American women. Vanity’s service to our country deserves to be honored, and her aspirations to continue serving others in the nursing field reflect the strength and courage she embodied. Yet, her untimely death is a devastating example of the broader, systemic issues that disproportionately affect transgender women of color. The growing prevalence of policies that target transgender individuals contributes to a climate of intolerance and hostility. These policies not only undermine the rights and dignity of transgender people but also have a rippling effect that emboldens acts of violence and discrimination.

A member of the European Parliament has resigned after he was caught leaving a gay sex party on Friday. Jozsef Szajer, a politician known for his fierce opposition to LGBTQ rights, admitted to breaching Belgium's curfew to attend a drug fueled gay sex party. Police raided the building and found 25 naked men at the event. Szajer was caught trying to sneak out of a window.

California has taken a baby step in the right direction for prison reform. Trans inmates are 13 times more likely to be assaulted than cis inmates. A new law, SB 132, requires that all trans inmates be housed according to their gender identity. Kwame discusses the new law.

The first day of testimony in the trial of a man accused of killing a transgender woman in Highland Park ended abruptly. Before Tuesday morning's proceedings got underway, the defendant, Carlos Scotland, was talking to his attorney and mouthing something to someone in the gallery, but once the first witness took the stand, he couldn't stay awake. Scotland fell asleep as the lead investigator recounted the inconsistencies during his interrogation of the 18-year-old charged with the June 2023 murder of Ashia Davis at the Woodward Inn.

Herman Cain was a successful businessman, a gospel singer, and secretly a Pokemon master who ran for president in 2012 and almost won. During his campaign he was known for his hilarious responses to questions, his "family values" but later dropped out following a cheating scandal, in which he claims "Satan" made him do it. Cain, an anti-masker, tested positive for COVID-19 last month and passed away on July 30, 2020. Kwame discusses the importance of social distancing, and plays Pokemon in honor of Herman Cain.

Dutch Olympian Steven van de Velde, 29, served 13 months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of raping a British girl he met on Facebook (and later in person, after traveling to the United Kingdom) in 2014. He was 19 at the time. He served 12 months in the UK and was then extradited to the Netherlands, where he was released after one month because of more lenient underage sex laws. Van de Velde’s name remains on the UK’s list of registered sex offenders. Although victims’ advocacy groups have called for van de Velde’s exclusion from the Olympics, the Dutch team has stood by him, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said it lacks authority to block him from competing, but will allow him his own private quarters and block journalists from interviewing him.
