| How to choose a Good Custom Suit? | 26 Jul 2022 | 00:40:39 | |
With the loosening of the dress codes in all the sectors of professional life and the decline (not to say the collapse) of the low quality ready-to-wear suiting industry, the custom suiting business is on the rise in Europe, in the USA and all around the world. Most gentlemen who are wearing suits or jackets nowadays, are doing it by choice and no more by obligation. This small sartorial revolution is the main reason why, almost paradoxically, the custom suiting industry is progressing with the opening of more and more custom suiting salons and showrooms in all the major cities around the world. Thus, a new challenge arises, as in this business you can now find anything from sartorial disasters to magnifient crafting. Our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@SARTORIALTALKS

| Fred Astaire, Gary Cooper and Cary Grant: They don't make them like that anymore... | 02 Sep 2020 | 00:51:03 | |
In this new episode of Sartorial Talks, the Podcast, Hugo and Sonya share their admiration for three style icons and ask the question: why when we speak of style icons, we most of the time refer to men of the 1930s and 1940s and not to men of today? Is it simply a question of clothing? Film stars of the ‘golden age’ of Hollywood were actually never revered for their dress alone. Fred Astaire, Gary Cooper, and Cary Grant were, and still are, eulogised for what they represented, which was often a moral integrity or an aversion to excess, of which their dress was a key signifier. | Wearing a Suit in the 21st century : Are we the Counter-Culture ? | 01 Oct 2019 | 00:32:09
A few days ago, the journalist Mark Dent published on Vox.com an article entitled : "How the power suit lost its power" in which he explains that if the suit was once the uniform of the powerful and a requirement for every man, now, people mostly wear suits when they’re in trouble or when they are "not in control". To illustrate his theory, Dent takes the example of Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg wearing a navy blue suit in April, 2018, in front of the American Congress. This infamous suit has been described by the New York Times as the "I'm Sorry Suit". Our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@SARTORIALTALKS
| Sartorial Talks : Executive and peer pressure to dress down? Really ? | 13 Jun 2019 | 00:28:59 | |
In certain industries, dress codes are not simply relaxed: it is actively frowned upon to suit up or dress well. The above characteristic of the early days of tech was dissected, repackaged and taken to the extreme by the modern world. In tech, we now make an arms race (or a “rags race”) on how to dress down. We've even heard conversations of people boasting how little they spent on clothes. We've heard people making judgements on others solely on the fact that they’re wearing a nice pair of trousers. The whole problem reached its climax a few years ago, when a prominent Silicon Valley entrepreneur publicly declared “I never invest in someone who wears a suit”. This mentality is based on the silly theory that clothes make you smarter or dumber. It is also based on the outrageous hypocrisy that dressing-down leads to a more egalitarian and meritocratic society. In this episode we try to understand what is more elitist: Our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@SARTORIALTALKS
