Super excited to share my chat with Connie Zweig, a retired therapist and author, whose most recent book is Meeting the Shadow on the Spiritual Path: The Dance of Darkness and Light in Our Search for Awakening.

Connie shares about her journey with the TM (Transcendental Meditation) movement, the unhealthy power dynamics and spiritual abuse within this movement and their impact on her, as well as her synchronistic connection with Marilyn Ferguson who became her long term mentor and friend.

Tanya shares openly about her own experience of abusive relationships and talks about the various aspects of gender-based violence (GBV), including historical power constructs, inter-generational trauma and coercive control. She also touches on violence in indigenous communities, mistreatment of the elderly in families as well as abuse towards mothers by their children. Tanya ends with a message of hope by describing the results that women who go through her trauma healing program tend to experience, from improved self esteem and ability to set healthy boundaries to finding loving relationships and new jobs. Haruko shares beautifully about her early life in Tokyo, Japan in what she describes as the pressure cooker of a strict Catholic school and a strongly patriarchal family and culture where women's voices were not valued or respected. She describes how moving to America opened up a whole new world for her and talks about her evolution as an artist and a musician, listening to inner guidance and following her heart regardless of the circumstances. Haruko also treats us to a moment of bliss through her flute.

Ayla shares beautifully about how sacred feminine power can be found in each and every moment from light flickering on a leaf to breastfeeding a child.

She also talks openly and vulnerably about her experience of abortion and what felt like a dark, foggy, death journey that it took her on, to an eventual opening of a beautiful, conscious relationship with her womb and her feminine power.

Ayla now combines womb work with her voice work and keeps exploring the fascinating linkages between the physical and energetic interconnections between different parts of our bodies, including the voice and the womb and the jaw and the pelvis.

We also chat about Ayla's work and studies with indigenous teachers and communities and the depth of knowing that can be found in the simplicity of their way of life and their connection to prayer and the Earth.
