| Pemi Loop Breakdown & Run Mountain Peaks | 12 Oct 2025 | 01:01:23 | |
This week, I deep dive into the iconic Pemi Loop. 29 miles and 9,000ft of gnarly White Mountains terrain. I discuss which direction is easier and faster to go. I talk about the Pemi FKTs and the blazing paces over those rocks. I also discuss why I am starting Run Mountains Peaks and what I'm hoping to do in the future. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. Below are some of my favorite pieces of running and hiking gear. By using the affiliate links below, I may earn a small commission if you decide to make a purchase (at no extra cost to you). Thank you for supporting the channel! 🙏 ⛰️ESSENTIAL TRAIL RUNNING GEAR: GPS Watch: https://amzn.to/4wT0bQq In my experience, Garmin has the best GPS accuracy in thick, dense forest in the Northeast. I trust the mileage and vert data from Garmin over any other watch. Summer Running Vest: https://amzn.to/4feeEzr Salomon has been the gold standard for trail running vests. I have always worn Salomon vests and still have all my original packs. In the summer, I use a 5L because I am usually bringing less gear. Lightweight Water Filter: https://amzn.to/4vErYTK A water filter top for a soft flask is one of the most essential pieces of gear for trail running. I always bring the least amount of water possible and fill up at any stream. Winter Running Vest: https://amzn.to/4aVAoP7 Solomon has been the gold standard for trail running vests. I have always worn Solomon vests and still have all my original packs. In the winter, I use a 12L because I am bringing extra gear and it all fits fine. 👟FAVORITE TRAIL RUNNING SHOES: Hoka Speedgoat 7: https://amzn.to/3RdDZRS The shoe I have worn for the most miles in the White Mountains. It's a higher stack height but I like that for running fast down steep descents. The Speedgoat 7 is lighter, and slightly reduced stack from the old version and I have been loving it. La Sportiva Prodigio Pro: https://amzn.to/3T1u0Qi My top pick for a super shoe in technical terrain. Light, fast, and has really good grip. Mid tier stack is pretty stable but also has some cushion to absorb downhill impact. These shoes want to go. Saucony Endorphin Speed 5: https://amzn.to/4wGHWh5 One of my favorite pair of road trainers. An uptempo, fast shoe which I use on my road runs to work on turnover and speed. 🎤PODCAST & CAMERA EQUIPMENT: RodeCaster Pro II: https://amzn.to/4wCO0XR Initially I recorded the podcasts through my laptop and a mixer box but it was a nightmare. I fully suggest anyone looking for podcast equipment to get an all-in-one audio production studio that handles mixing, processing, and internal multi-track recording. Shure SM58 Mic: https://amzn.to/4fdhEvQ The gold standard in microphones. Insta360 Go 3S: https://amzn.to/3RdE344 I recorded my first handful of videos using this. Super tiny 4k camera that you can clip to your hat and get really cool POV videos. Portable Battery Pack: https://amzn.to/4f4rbqb This is what I use to run my RodeCaster Pro II from my truck bed. Will run the unit for several hours on a single charge.
| NH Lodge2Dodge FKT: 22.5 Hours of Relentless Miles | 05 Oct 2025 | 01:25:12 | |
This week I go through my recent successful FKT attempt on a 72-mile section of the Appalchian Trail through the White Mountain National Forest. Argueably the hardest section of the entire AT and the toughest trails in the Whites. This FKT is a clean point to point route that bridges the gap between th 45 mile Hut Traverse and the 100 mile White Mountains 100, on the same beautiful and gnarly terrain. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. Below are some of my favorite pieces of running and hiking gear. | Kilkenny Ridge Race, UTMB & Working on Weaknesses | 21 Sep 2025 | 00:34:01
In this episode, I dive into some big mountain running topics and recent adventures. I talk about the recent Kilkenny Ridge Race and what makes it such a unique race, then shift over to UTMB — one of the biggest trail races in the world. From there, I share a story about running up Mount Moosilauke from Beaver Brook, snagging the Strava crown on the climb, and bumping into a hiker with headphones along the way. It’s a mix of racing, training, and White Mountains talk. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. Below are some of my favorite pieces of running and hiking gear. | 20+ Year Pro Triathlete John Hirsch & Last Skier Standing 2026 Reaction | 15 Feb 2026 | 01:59:47
This week I got to interview John Hirsch. John raced triathlons as a pro for over 20 years. He collected four Top 10 Pro Ironman finishes and competed at the notorious Kona Ironman World Championships. He had a ton of cool stories and great insights into triathlon and endurance training. Outside of triathlons he competed in trail races, grabbing three wins at the Spartan Ultra Beast Masters World Championships. Oh and he also still rips on trail, he was one of the only finishers at the @spartan Peak Snow Devil Snowshoe race from this January. A brutal winter race (snow shoes required) with cut offs that DNF most participants. He gave us the scoop into those races. Give it a listen. Before the interview, I gave my quick Last Skier Standing 2026 reaction. An epic throw down per usual. | Winter Trail Running Gear Kit for Cold Temps | 08 Feb 2026 | 01:02:52
This week I go through my entire gear kit for winter trail running and hiking. Literally took everything out of my bins and went through it. Not so much a brand talk but more of what items I bring with me and all my tips and tricks I've learned over them years to make them useful and efficient. Everyone has thier own system and kit that works them but hopefully you can take away at least one thing to upgrade your kit. If you have any good tips I missed let me know. Threw in some tongue twisters at the end. Say red leather yellow leather five times fast. | Ranking the NH 4,000 Footers | 01 Feb 2026 | 01:15:59
This week I ranked the NH 48 4,000 footers from my least favorite to my top pick. There is only one hike I actually dislike. Lots of tough decisions had to be made. I will not second guess my decisions. Then did a preview for the upcoming Last Skier Standing race by White Mountain Ski Company that starts next weekend. That race usually goes for days and lots of heavy hitters on the entrants list. Lastly, I did a trip report from my run on Pierce & Eisenhower. Awesome day. Stunner views. Decent trail conditions. | Ultrarunning Recovery Heirarchy | 25 Jan 2026 | 01:10:49
This week I talk through my hierarchy of ultrarunning recovery tips. If you are increasing your training for the new year, you should also be increasing your focus on recovery. None of the top four items have to do with “recovery” products or supplements. I go through some deer hunting FAQs I get asked a lot to try and educate all public land recreation users. I messed up my one grid fact from last week's episode. Brutal. At least I owned up to it. Talked Patriots. Sledding. No Country for Old Men. Stay warm this weekend. | All Things White Mountains Hiking w/ Grid Finisher Andrea Wojciak | 18 Jan 2026 | 01:31:49
This week I sat down with my own mother who is quite the accomplished hiker. She is a Grid finisher, and has completed several hiking lists in New England including the 100 Highest, 67 4000 Footers, 52 With a View, Terrifying 25, and is in the middle of a Single Season Winter 48. We discussed all of these accomplishments and the trails and peaks associated with them. She gave some tips about things she has learned over the years and resources she still uses to plan her hikes today. We talked about a few under the radar hikes. And we went through her experience crewing me through a handful of my ultramarathon efforts over the years and some stories and lessons learned from those. | 2024 Hellbender 100 Mile Story | 11 Jan 2026 | 01:16:15
This week I talk about my 2024 Hellbender 100 mile 9th place finish. The most pain I’ve ever been in running and the most I have ever learned from an ultra. The trails down there rock.
| Biggest Lessons from 2025 & Christmas Eve Trip to the ER | 28 Dec 2025 | 01:03:22 | |
This week I talked about my Christmas being essentially canceled and then my spontaneous trip to the ER on Christmas Eve. Winter conditions rock right now and you should get on the trails while they are good. I go through my biggest training lessons learned from 2025. It was a great year for me but it did not all go how I planned and instead I adjusted and looking at it as building a bigger base for all things running. Stack lots of brick to eventually go higher or something like that. Charlie Brown Christmas rocks but everybody is so mean to him from the beginning to the end. Christmas shopping. Meat sweats. And what's next for Run Mountain Peaks in 2026. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. Below are some of my favorite pieces of running and hiking gear. | Best 2025 White Mountain National Forest FKTs | 21 Dec 2025 | 01:00:42
This week I go through each of the 48 new FKTs in the White Mountain National Forest that were established in 2025 and discuss some of the best and most competitive times. The trails in the northeast are gnarly and the racing scene is getting more and more competitive each year. You have to be fast, tough and good on steep, technical terrain to go after these times. | Presi Traverse Reflection, WMNF Christmas Tree, Stranger Things, TARC Winter Fells - Ep.14 | 14 Dec 2025 | 01:00:58
Discuss Ryan and I getting dominated by snow on the Osceolas (12/13 trip report). Recapped TARC winter fells 8, 32, and 40 mile results. Talked about my first winter Presi traverse 5 years ago and how I thought the Adams five peaks was actually Adams, Jefferson, Clay, Washington and the rest of Presi Traverse was going to be a piece of cake (wrong). Cutting down your own Christmas tree in the Whites seems fun and easy until you realize you are probably going to end up with a skimpy tree unless you really work for it. Fantasy football blues: fifth in the league in points scored but missing the playoffs. I'm on season 3 of Stranger Things and the bad guy is back somehow and Dustin, the hair guy, and the new girl just cracked the Russian code. Little motivation at the end. | Endurance for Mountain Running & Ultramarathons | 05 Apr 2026 | 01:14:43
This week I talked through the essentials in my training and coaching philosophy for mountain running and ultra running. I think there is so much information out there, quick hacks, new research, supplements, etc. that it is hard to know what to focus on and what is worth it. But I truly believe that endurance training fundamentals along with unwavering consistency is where all the gains are actually made. I talk through everything and give personal insights on how I've used it myself to become stronger in the mountains. If you don’t believe me, here’s what one of my close buddies has to say about it: “Reality is that 99% of our capacity comes from the BASIC and INDIVIDUAL boring and unexciting training.” - Kilian Jornet, January 2026, Trail Running 2026, where are we, where are we going. Also, one resource that really helped me when I started seriously training 4 or 5 years ago was the book Training for the Uphill Athlete by Scott Johnston. For anyone looking to train themselves I highly recommend reading it through and then building from there with more recent research and strategies. For a long time I slept with it on my tote box nightstand lol. Lastly, maybe I am delusional about my own goals, but one thing that I think a lot of people underestimate is their own potential. I think the best of the best have just been working WAY harder and WAY longer than the rest. How many YEARS are you willing to put in to achieve your goals? (Running, hiking or other goals). | The Man Who Beat Mt. Ascutney | Conor Brown | 29 Mar 2026 | 01:07:17
This week I sat down with Conor Brown. He is a hiker and trail runner that has accomplished some pretty mind blowing feats over the past few years. He was the finisher at the inaugural Mt. Ascutney Vertical Backyard Ultra, hiking over 200 miles and 108k ft of climbing in a single push over four days. He set records for most summits in 24 hours on his home mountains North Ucanoonuc and South Uncanoonuc (48 & 58 respectively). He thru hiked the Appalachian Trail. Had an impressive win at the well known Manchester to Monadnock ultramarathon and a blazing time at the Jigger Johnson 50 miler. He’s young, he’s tough and he’s fast. | NH Spring Trail Running Playbook | 22 Mar 2026 | 01:08:34
This week I give my New Hampshire spring trail & mountain running playbook. Dirt, rocks and roots are here, you just gotta go find them. Spring shoulder season in the White Mountains is full of postholes, rapidly changing trail conditions and other surprises. I usually take this time to check out a handful of other mountain gems in the region, of which there are many. Some of these are very popular, some of these are more off the beaten path. All awesome trails. Lots of dirt in my future, spring is almost here and I’m getting stoked. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. | 4:50min/mi GAP up a Small Mountain | 15 Mar 2026 | 01:11:29
This week I'm diving into a recent time trial effort I did on my local peak. I ran the same 1 mile route (510ft of climbing) twice in the span of five days. The first effort was at a 7:37min/mi pace, but during the second effort, I was able to knock off almost 30 seconds and run a 7:08min/mi pace (4:50min/mi grade adjusted pace). Obviously, I didn’t gain a ton of fitness in those five days, so I talk through some of the “race” day execution that let me run faster and be mentally stronger in the red. Short, fast road efforts are not my strong suit, but I think there is a lot of value in getting out of your comfort zone. I plan on mixing more of these efforts in between my ultramarathons. Then, I talk about my injury history. I’ve dealt with so many different running injuries over the last handful of years. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. | Road Fitness Translating to Trails with Ryan Fournier | 08 Mar 2026 | 01:27:55
This week I sat down with Ryan Fournier. He is a friend and a road & trail crusher. He started road running a handful of years ago and after thru hiking the AT in 2024, has thrown down some amazing efforts. Everything from short road to long trail. Big range. 50 miles in 6hr 58m, Sub 16min 5k, 6:39 Pemi loop, Boott Spur throwdown, etc. He was slated to PR the half marathon this March but unfortunately the race was cancelled and he is too fast for 2026 (YMCA) treadmill technology. | Maine & Moosehead Lake, Extreme Activites, Tracking Sleep, Favorite Chips - Ep.25 | 01 Mar 2026 | 01:01:59
Lots of topics this week. I talk about some of my time spent living and getting outdoors in Maine. My annual trip to Moosehead Lake and how cool of a region it is up there. The view from under Mt. Kineo rock face being undefeated. I talked through and ranked each of the extreme activities I have done: white water rafting, parasailing, zip lining, sky diving. Some quick Hundred Mile Wilderness talk. Tracking my sleep and how I am trying to improve my sleep and recovery. I give out my top 3 favorite chips of all time. And end with some motivation. | Winning 50 Mile Kilkenny Ridge Race 2024 | 22 Feb 2026 | 01:06:23
This week I tell the story of my first place finish at the 2024 Kilkenny Ridge Race. A great effort for me and had a few learning lessons for next time. Potentially looking at running that race again this year. Then I talked about Marathon Sports buying Six03 trail races and the $100,000 of prize money they are putting on New Hampshire trail races. Gave my quick thoughts on the Lincoln Woods trail closure for most of 2026 as well as my Black Canyons 100k reaction. What a lineup at that race. And finally we have another virtual race this month from BURCS, the Satan’s Sidewalk 66.66K / 66.66 Hour Virtual Races. Do you believe in bad juju? I try to steer clear. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. Below are some of my favorite pieces of running and hiking gear. | Setbacks & Uncertainty in Running, White Dot Crown, FKTs - Ep.31 | 12 Apr 2026 | 01:04:53
This week’s episode is an unplanned deep dive into setbacks and the uncertainty of training & running goals. I was gearing up for an FKT attempt, but an untimely ankle roll on my bad ankle that just got good, changed my plans and gave me some flashbacks of my long recovery this fall/winter. Luckily, it wasn’t bad at all and should be fine in the near future. I still wanted to get an effort in so I decided to give an uphill only push to limit the impact on the ankle. I landed on a time trial up North Uncanoonuc and tied for the overall crown on a stacked leaderboard. I gave some thoughts and take aways on the effort. I also threw in some last minute thoughts on the latest season of Love on the Spectrum. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. | 6 Months of Podcasting as a New Creator | 26 Apr 2026 | 01:26:33
This week, I dive into how the podcast came to be, lessons learned through 6 months, and how I feel being a content creator. Two years ago, I had zero social media presence, no TV, no laptop & no wifi. Now I’m posting a weekly podcast and posting on multiple social media platforms almost daily. The transition was gnarly and I talk about all the growing pains and why doing a podcast is so much harder than I thought. I also got my first full fledged hate message and I break that down lol I talk about the spectrum of professional athletes/trail running and content creators. I think they are actually doing the same thing in a sense. And embracing the two together isn’t a bad thing at all for most people. | First Northeast Ultra 8 Gold Skyrunner Joe Palisi | 19 Apr 2026 | 01:55:57
This week I interviewed Joe Palisi. He is a runner, hiker, climber and skier and this March became the first person to finish the Northeast Ultra 8 Gold Skyrunner Challenge. Joe completed the Presi Traverse, Pemi Loop, Mahoosuc Traverse, Devil’s Path, Great Range Traverse, Taconic Crest Traverse, Saranac 6 & Cranberry 50 in both summer and winter all under strict time limits. These are eight of the toughest single day routes in the northeast and he had some crazy and epic stories getting this project done. He’s a great athlete, strong runner & hiker and a good dude.

| Efficient Gear and Movement in Technical Mountains | 03 May 2026 | 01:20:17 | |
This week, I’m breaking down everything I think about when it comes to moving efficiently in the rugged Northeast mountains during summer. Shoes, gear, strategies & more. If you don't listen, it could be summed up simply as: don’t ever stop moving, bring the lightest gear (safely) possible & don’t fight the trails and its many obstacles, just keep moving forward relentlessly and as unphased as you can. First I go through shoe choice. I like a shoe with great grip, big lugs, light as possible, and cushion and stack height that vary by distance: low stack and minimal cush for short uphill, low stack and medium cush for short up down, medium stack to a lot of cush for ultra distance. Then, I go through all my gear and tricks to bring the essentials while staying lightweight. This is not a safety talk, this is an efficiency talk!

| NH Trail Running Duo: Clark Plummer & Allie Leveille | 10 May 2026 | 01:48:35 | |
This week we were joined by a true NH trail running power couple, Clark Plummer & Allie Leveille. Clark is a staple NH & White Mountains trail runner. He is a Grid Finisher and stacked over a million feet of vertical gain on foot three straight years in a row. One of the most enthusiastic people you will ever meet on the trail. Allie was a road runner who has taken to more trail and ultramarathon efforts the past couple years. She has 11 FKTs in the last year alone and the count is growing. Multiple ultra marathon wins already under her belt and is only getting better. We chat their background, some of their past efforts, their recent outings at White Lake Ultras, Clark proposing on Pierce, and more! | Breaking Down the Presidential Traverse | 24 May 2026 | 01:12:21
This week, I deep dive into the iconic Presidential Traverse. 18 miles and 8,500ft of gnarly White Mountains terrain. I discuss the required peaks: Madison, Adams, Jefferson, Clay, Washington, Monroe, Eisenhower and Pierce. Yes on Clay, but no on Franklin? And Jackson was a president, but not that Jackson. I talk about the Presi FKTs and the blazing paces over those rocks. At the end, I brought back some non running related rankings. This time doing my top 3 favorite TV shows of all time. And I finish with a correction on the Wapack 21.5 miler results (my bad) and a few other race recaps. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. | Northeast Trail Adventures with Eli Burakian | 17 May 2026 | 01:42:21
This week I sat down with Eli Burakian. Eli wears just about every hat you can imagine in the Northeast trail scene. He’s an ultra runner, backpacker, professional photographer, author, and race director/co-founder of Northeast Trail Adventures. He just loves getting out on trails and being part of the Northeast community and it shows. We dive deep into his background managing the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge, writing guidebooks for trails and mountains in the region, and getting started with ultramarathons and FKT. We also get into co-founding Northeast Trail Adventures and his vision for the future. We break down the huge success of Mt. Ascutney Vertical Backyard Ultra and the unique format that suits us Northeast vert stackers. | Hardest Trails in the White Mountains | 31 May 2026 | 01:28:20
This week I ranked the toughest trails in the White Mountains. Not just the most technical, but the hardest trails to go fast on. I got a ton of input for this list which was awesome and did a little bit of research on trail stats as well. I gave a bunch of honorable mentions and then ranked the top 10. I did a Chocorua Mountain race preview and some of the history from one of the coolest races in the Whites. Awesome trails, tough terrain and super competitive. I also previewed the US mountain running championships at the Sunapee Scramble. Always cool to see the best in the US come to New Hampshire and race.Threw in some other race results and quick previews. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains.
| Wantastiquet-Monadnock-Sunapee 100 Mile FKT with Lexi Jackson | 07 Jun 2026 | 01:31:57 | |
This week I talked with Lexi Jackson who is fresh off her Wantastiquet-Monadnock-Sunappee ~100 mile unsupported FKT. This route combines the Wantastiquet-Monadnock trail with the Monadnock-Sunappee Greenway trail in a single push with 20,000 ft of climbing. An epic route and cool story, doing it all solo. We also discuss some of Lexi’s other FKT and race efforts including the White Mountains 100, Dirritissema, and so many more. She has been throwing down long distance (mostly unsupported) ultras for a long time and has lots of stories and tons of good ultra tips. Oh, and shes a grid finisher already working on grid #2 & #3. https://fastestknowntime.com/athlete/lexi-jackson Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. | White Mountains Hut Traverse DNF | 14 Jun 2026 | 01:35:04
This week I talk about my recent DNF on the notorious Hut Traverse. The Hut Traverse links all 8 AMC Huts in the White Mountains in an epic 45 mile 16k ft of gain route over the best of the best Whites terrain. You start at the Carter Notch hut in of the coolest spots in the Whites, traverse over the Presidential range over the highest and gnarliest terrain in the region, then take the A to Z trail into the Pemi across the Twinway and Garfield Ridge, before summit Mt. Lafayette and heading down the Old Bridle trail. You then head up to Lonesome Lake Hut, but I wouldnt know about that. I made it a total of 44 of out 45 miles. Yikes. First DNF. I talk about how the second half turned bad and why I bailed at mile 44 uninjured. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. | Best Months for Trail Running & Hiking in the Mountains | 21 Jun 2026 | 01:03:43
Summer is here and June has not disappointed. It's one of the best times of the year. Full blown trail season with lots of people getting on trail, races every weekend, and big miles in the mountians. Without giving anything away, this week I rank the best months of year for trail running & hiking in the Northeast mountains. Lincoln Woods is officially closed and lots of people squeezed in a Pemi Loop earlier this month. I talk about some of those efforts and other premier routes that may see some action this year. I also give an update on some of the June mountain races and talk about my recovery from the Hut Traverse. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. | Division I Speed Unleashed on Mountains with Lars Hogne and Tyler Sheedy | 28 Jun 2026 | 02:11:30
This week I sat down with Lars Hogne and Tyler Sheedy. A couple young mountain crushers with a cross country and track & field background. They both ran in Division I at URI and have brought that speed to the trail running scene. Lars is coming off a 7th place finish at the US Mountain Running championships at Sunapee Scramble. Tyler already has multiple race wins under his belt this year and is gearing up for the Vermont 100 miler in a few weeks. We talked about their background, running in college, some of their trail races to date, shoes, upcoming plans and much more. Very fun conversation and it will be fun to see what these two do in the future. | $10,000 White Mountains FKT Bounties Reaction & Predictions | 05 Jul 2026 | 01:18:58
This week I react to the recently announced White Mountains Bounty by Run the Whites. $10,000 annually to be allocated to five of the most competitive mountain running routes in the Northeast. The Presidential Traverse - 18mi 8.5k ft vert Pemi Loop - 29mi 9kft vert Hut Traverse - 45mi 16k ft vert White Mountains 100 - 95mi 34k ft vert Mahoosuc Traverse 28mi 11k ft vert Each route has either $1,000 or $2,000 if you set the new mens or womens FKT. If you crack the top 10, you will also be paid out amounts varying from $50 - $200. People know that the Northeast has some of the most difficult and technical terrain in the country, but not many pros stick around and put emphasis on the region. This will no doubt bring out more elite mountain runners to give a crack at these routes and help legitimize the routes and the athletes in the region. | Rise of Search and Rescues in the White Mountains | 12 Jul 2026 | 01:08:44
This week, I’m talking about search and rescues in the White Mountains. It feels like there are more and more rescues in the news and social media. I try to give a bit different of a perspective than much of the online hooplah. I pulled in some facts, talked about how missions are funded and tried to think about how we most effectively educate people to prevent avoidable scenarios. I also share a story from my first sunrise hike up Monadnock and being wildly unprepared for extreme mountain conditions when I was a teenager. I finished off with some Q&A covering everything from how to convert pace on technical trails, to listening to music during runs, to 200 mile race scene thoughts. And I give a quick look at some upcoming July races. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. Below are some of my favorite pieces of running and hiking gear. | Triple Crown Finisher and Fastpacking Enthusiast Kevin Gagnon | 19 Jul 2026 | 00:59:37
This week I sat down with Kevin Gagnon, a Triple Crown thru hiker who completed the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail by the age of 25. Kevin showed me the ropes of ultra running and long distance endurance feats when I was getting into the sport. He has so many different stories from thru hikes, fast packing long distance routes, and ultra marathons. Cohos Trail (last week), Arizona Trail, Northern Colorado Trail, Midstate Trail, Bay State Circuit the list goes on and on. He is always putting down tons of miles. We talk about it all and why you gotta get out and see these places while you can. Over the years I have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. | Breaking Down the White Mountains 100 | 26 Jul 2026 | 01:20:59
This week I’m doing a full breakdown of the notorious White Mountains 100. How it was created, what the route entails, current records on the route, and why it's one of the hardest 100 mile routes in the country. Approximately 95 miles, 34,000 feet of climbing over some of the gnarliest White Mountains terrain. I share my experience pacing the last 35 miles of this route and witnessing first hand the carnage. I talk about each of the current FKTs and how impressive they all are. I also tried to name all the 4k footers you actually summit from memory but the moment was too big for me. I finish up with the stories from my July Skookumchuck throwdown runs and give an update at the stacked men's and women's leaderboards. I also give some thoughts on Josh Kerr’s wild mile performance. I've tried a lot of different trail running gear over the years and have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. Below are some of my favorite pieces of running and hiking gear. | Moving to New Hampshire for the White Mountains with Lyle Cordes | 02 Aug 2026 | 00:57:06
This week I sat down with Lyle Cordes. He is a runner, biker, and climber who grew up in Pennsylvania, went to school at UVM, and now lives in New Hampshire, and the past couple years has been ripping around the White Mountains. He’s got impressive race results under his belt, including a second place finish at the Jigger Johnson 50 Miler, 24 hours at Mt. Ascutney secured a full Everest, and most recently a podium finish at the World's End 100K. We talk about how he got started in endurance sports through mountain biking, his transition to trail running, and how he accidentally started a viral outdoor blog back when he was ten years old after deciding to sleep outside in a tent for the entire year of 2013. HOW TO FIND LYLEhttps://strava.app.link/5l0oeamfe5bI've tried a lot of different trail running gear over the years and have refined my ideal kit and gear for the mountains. Below are some of my favorite pieces of running and hiking gear. If you have any questions, please reach out! I trust the mileage and vert data from Garmin over any other watch.Summer Running Vest: https://amzn.to/4feeEzr Salomon has been the gold standard for trail running vests. Super easy to use and can help out in a pinch as well.Winter Running Vest: https://amzn.to/4aVAoP7 Solomon has been the gold standard for trail running vests. I have always worn Solomon vests and still have all my original packs. In the winter, I use a 12L because I am bringing extra gear and it all fits fine. The fabric is super stretchy and you can fit a lot in these packs.👟FAVORITE TRAIL RUNNING SHOES:Hoka Speedgoat 7: https://amzn.to/3RdDZRSThe shoe I have worn for the most miles in the White Mountains. Its a high stack height but I like that for running fast down steep descents. The Speedgoat 7 is my favorite version so far. It's lighter, and slightly reduced stack from the old version and I have been loving it.La Sportiva Prodigio Pro: https://amzn.to/3T1u0Qi My top pick for a super shoe in technical terrain. Light, fast, and has really good grip. Mid tier stack so fairly stable but also has some cush to absorb downhill impact. These shoes want to go.Saucony Endorphin Speed 5: https://amzn.to/4wGHWh5 One of my favorite pair of road trainers. An uptempo, fast shoe which I use on my road runs to work on turnover and speed.🎤PODCAST & CAMERA EQUIPMENT:RodeCaster Pro II: https://amzn.to/4wCO0XRInitially I recorded the podcasts through my laptop and a mixer box but it was a nightmare. I fully suggest anyone looking for podcast equipment to get an all-in-one audio production studio that handles mixing, processing, and internal multi-track recording. For me it is the RodeCaster and it has been working great.Shure SM58 Mic: https://amzn.to/4fdhEvQ The gold standard in microphones. Insta360 Go 3S: https://amzn.to/3RdE344 I recorded my first handful of videos using this. Super tiny 4k camera that you can clip to your hat and get really cool POV videos.Portable Battery Pack: https://amzn.to/4f4rbqb This is what I use to run my RoceCaster Pro II from my truck bed. Will run the unit for several hours on a single charge.
