In this episode Kate meets with Kelsey Baldwin, one of the volunteer organizers of Kanfest, the Kananaskis Whitewater festival. Kanfest, which will be held this year at Canoe Meadows August 10 - 12 2018 is a weekend to celebrate whitewater kayaking. It also just so happens to be the 25th anniversary of the festival!
Kanfest is a festival for all people, of all kayaking abilities, and above all, is just plain fun!

If you want to climb bigger mountains, you need bigger skills. This episode is about a snow and ice training course that Kate took through Yamnuska Mountain Adventures to improve her knowledge and safety over snow and ice. Here Kate talks about her experience and some of this skills learnt during this 3 day course.

Picklejar Lakes Trail is located in Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park and is an 11km round trip, moderately rated trail. In this episode Kate talks about her experience with it as a 1-night backpack trip. The trailhead is located off of highway 40, approximately 1.5hours from the far west side of Calgary.

In this episode Kate talks about her 1 night backpack trip to Quaite Valley backcountry campground. This kid-friendly backpack trip is less than an hour from Calgary, in Bow Valley Wildland Provincial park.

This episode highlights the 13km moderate hiking trail up to the Barrier Lake Fire Lookout in Kananaskis. This family friendly hike has approximately 600m of elevation gain, and is relatively close to Calgary, only minutes off of highway 1 on highway 40.

Jackie Allen joins with Roots in the Wilderness again to give an overview of the 10km cross country ski trail to overnight at the Elk Lakes Cabin. The trail starts in Peter Lougheed Provincial park in Alberta, and ends at Elk Lakes in BC.
