Bloom & Grow: My experience with grief and widowhood to help you bloom and grow. Welcome to B&G.12 Mar 202300:16:07

Grief can affect us in many ways. I use my perspective of loving, losing, and moving forward to help people simply develop more of an understanding of grief. From understanding comes empathy, and that’s a step in the right direction of being considerate of other’s feelings.

Equally as important, I share the lessons I learned after widowhood in giving grace to those that didn’t know what to say or said the wrong thing. If you get mad at everyone who doesn’t know what to say, you’re not going to have any friends left.

Takeaways:

Starting a flower farm requires planning and learning about different crops and growing seasons.

Composting is an important practice for flower farmers to recycle organic waste and improve soil health.

Creating compost piles involves balancing carbon-rich materials (such as leaves and straw) with nitrogen-rich materials (such as vegetable scraps and manure).

Composting can be done in various ways, including using compost tumblers, chicken wire enclosures, or vermicomposting systems.

Starting composting is simple and can be done with basic materials and a good understanding of the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio.

Why my flower farm outgrew the farm stand model.19 Feb 202400:31:40

In this week's episode, I share how our flower farm got it's start with a farm stand at the end of the driveway and why I transitioned to a different model. Don't get me wrong, the farm stand model can be great if you're just starting out, and for certain farms might be the perfect end model. But for me, once I realized every single stem had value, I did not want throwing them in the compost bin if they didn't sell to be part of my business plan.

Welcome to Part 3 of our exciting three-part mini-series, where we dig deeper into the pocketbook and tap a few more resources to start a flower farm with different budget levels. In this episode, titled "How I Would Start My Flower Farm with $10,000", I realize that very few people have this amount to invest just starting out. I know I certainly didn't. You can quickly throw money at the "fun" stuff to grow and miss out on the potential to start a business on the right foot with sustained profitability. Analyzing your market and figuring out who you're selling to is going to be key.

I discuss what types of education I would invest in, and of course many could think, "She's just saying that because she sells a course." Well, yes, of course I believe my offerings will accelerate you to profitability sooner by not making my same mistakes, not to mention missing out on the opportunity costs of not maximizing your sales... but mine isn't the only course available and I suggest you do your research. My course dives deep into about 10 topics, but maybe you only need help on 2 or 3 and can find a different offering that focuses on just that. Coaches and consultants are out there, but they aren't for everyone. Do your research before investing in anything. That's why I offer a risk-free phone call so you can tell me all about your flower farm and I'll tell you (honestly) if I think my course can help you.

Cut Flower Crop Planner & Journal by Liz Fiedler15 Dec 202300:34:54

In this episode, I go through page by page (and step by step) of the new Cut Flower Crop Planner and Journal I published to help hobby growers and flower farmers to plan, take notes, and reflect on their crop. Even if you don't plan to buy the journal, I hope you can still pick up some valuable tips and tricks you can implement!

this is so much more than just a planner and journal! Broken into stages that overlap, you will be planning before your season starts, implementing your plans, taking notes in your business season, and reflecting on what to differently next year.

this guide will help you improve efficiency, decrease costs, and increase production and revenue.

it's time to grow what you actually need. Not just throw some seeds in the ground and hope for the best.
