John Dorahy is quite simple Rover’s rugby league royalty. Nicknamed Joe Cool because of his ice cold playing style John was a firm fans favourite and is fondly remembered for his grace and style both on and off the pitch. 

John signed for the Robin back in 1983 after being spotted by the late great Colin Hutton and amassed 94 appearances during his three seasons with the club.   In this 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞Cast we discuss how his move to Rovers came about, why he never signed a contract whilst playing for Rovers and how he dealt with missing THAT conversation during the 1986 Challenge Cup Final against Castleford.  

John also talks about his incredible double winning debut season and his surprise at being awarded the Harry Sunderland trophy.   This is a fantastic opportunity for supporters both young and old to hear from a man who holds his time at the club in the highest regard.

The latest Robin to join us to discuss their career in Rugby League is quite simply a Rovers legend. Born in April 1967 Wayne Parker is a member of Hull Kingston Rovers 200 club and amassed 245 appearances during his two spells for the club. 

Remembered fondly for being a very talented half-back with an excellent all-round game; Wayne was also club captain and is widely respected for his service to the club during a difficult off field period. In this HeritageCast we discuss his rise to prominence in the Robins first team, his departure to Halifax and his Rovers return plus much much more.

We are delighted that the latest former Robin to join us on the Red Robin HeritageCast is Kris Welham. 

Kris Welham was born in Hull in March 1987 and came through the club’s Academy set up to make his first team debut at Leigh towards the end of the 2006 promotion-winning season. With a home play-off semi-final just about in the bag, coach Justin Morgan elected to rest some first team regulars for the trip to Leigh, and both Kris and brother Liam were given their debuts on the wings that day – the only instance in Rovers’ history of two brothers making their debuts in the same game. 

From there Kris went on the represent the club with great aplomb with Chairman Neil Hudgill stating that 'not only has he been a tremendous player for Hull Kingston Rovers, he’s also been a great ambassador for the club.’ In all, Kris Welham made 191 appearances for Rovers, scoring 102 tries. 

He was a strong and pacey centre, who for several seasons was Rovers most potent attacking threat in the three-quarter line. He has made most Super League appearances for Rovers, 165, and has scored most tries, 89. After leaving Rovers for pastures new Kris has gone on to forge a successful career with him playing for Salford in the 2019 Challenge Cup Final and Super League Grand Final. He recently signed for Sheffield Eagles after playing for Featherstone Rovers in the 2021 'Million' pound game and combines playing part time and working as a pest controller.

Australian born Adam Quinlan will go down as one of the most exciting players to pull on the shirt in the modern era. With injury hampering his rovers career though it was ironic that during his longest run of games in over three years Head Coach Tony Smith should deliver the news that Quinlan would not be offered a new contract at the end of the 2021 season. In our latest HeritageCast Adam Quinlan joins us to discuss playing rugby league as a youngster in Australia, making his NRL debut for St. George Illawarra, lining up with Benji Marshall and his mid season move to St. Helens. This is all the pre cursor to the main event though with Adam revealing his love for Hull Kingston Rovers, his emotional first team debut and achieving promotion under Tim Sheens.  Adam also discusses his successful 2018 season which saw him land the Roger Milward 'Player of the Year' award, Players 'Player of the Year' award and the Members' Player of the Year'. HeritageCast #13 finishes with Adam revealing the heartbreak of not being able to feature for Rovers in our play off campaign, the tough reality of COVID-19 lockdowns and how hard it was to play in empty stadiums.

For our latest Red Robin HeritageCast we are delighted to be joined by a player who only recently departed the club for pastures new.   George Lawler was a firm fans favourite with him exceling at either prop, loose forward or hooker during his time with the Robins. The 25 year olds departure was a shock to many fans with the club offering him a much improved long term contract which included a testimonial. It was the lure of a new challenge though which played the biggest factor in him deciding to leave a club which he had served for the past six years.   Despite his departure to Lee Radford's Castleford Tigers George will always be remembered for his whole hearted displays whilst wearing the famous red and white of Hull Kingston Rovers.   In this HeritageCast we discuss coming through the amateur ranks, making his Rovers debut, his England aspirations and much much more.

For our latest Red Robin HeritageCast we are delighted to be joined by current Halifax Panthers star and of course former Hull Kingston Rovers player Kevin Larroyer. 

The second rower started his professional career with Toulouse Olympique. before moving to Catalans Dragons in the summer of 2012.  Whilst at the Stade Gilbert Brutus Kevin went on to make made 22 appearances for the Dragons before making the move to Craven Park in 2013 to sign for Hull Kingston Rovers. Initially signed on a one year loan deal the second rower impressed enough to earn another one year loan deal after making 22 appearances and scoring seven tries. 

In September 2015, the French international committed his future to Hull Kingston Rovers by signing a three-year deal. Relegation from Super League in 2016 sadly brought an end to his time with the club though with Rovers exercising their right to rip up his contact after our heart breaking relegation from Super League. 

Since leaving Rovers Larroyer has gone on to represent the Castleford Tigers, Bradford Bulls,  Leigh Centurions and now the Halifax Panthers whilst also supporting Rugby League Cares with their Mental Health Support programme.

For our latest HeritageCast we are delighted to be joined by former Robin James Green. James Green signed for Hull KR at the age of 17 and developed within the academy for 5 years before making his Super League debut against Bradford Bulls at Odsal in 2012. Before his Super League debut, James spent time on dual registration in 2012 with Workington Town making a handful of appearances gaining valuable first-team experience. Green’s debut was an interesting affair, as he was placed on report and received retrospective punishment leading to a suspension. A few more dual registration moves followed including stints with Batley Bulldogs and Gateshead Thunder during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. 2014 would be James’ breakout year at Hull KR and he would feature in almost every game for The Robins. He was voted as the Young Player of The Year, just before his 24th birthday. 2015 was another good year for James as he helped guide the club to a first Challenge Cup Final since 1986, but unfortunately, he wouldn’t get to run out at Wembley after Head Coach Chris Chester named him as 18th man. 2016 would be James’ final season at Rovers after signing a 2 year deal with newly promoted Leigh Centurions. Spells with Leigh, Castleford, Bradford Bulls and York City Knights have followed with James’ recently announced his retirement from the game aged just 30 years old, however, he has eyes firmly on his career after playing Rugby League with him recently launching his own company Green & Green, which specialises in Mortgages and Insurance. Its play off time and for the first time since 2013 Hull Kingston Rovers are actually involved!

With a play off place guaranteed Rovers travelled to Headingley last Friday to take on the Leeds Rhinos in a game which meant nothing other then finding out who we will be facing in this weeks elimination game.

And with that in mind we are delighted to be joined by Hull KR Hull Live reporter James O'Brien as we look back at last weeks defeat and ponder what impact injuries to key players such as Matty Parcell will have when we take on the Warrington Wolves this Friday.

We also discuss Will Maher's new contract and congratulate the clubs women's side after they achieved promotion to the Championship after they achieved a 28-16 victory over Dewsbury Moor Ladies on Sunday.
