🎭 A very special episode from Belfast’s Lyric Theatre! 🎭

This week on Robin & Jane In The Stalls, Robin & Jane head to the iconic Lyric Theatre Belfast to celebrate a landmark moment in Northern Ireland’s cultural history — 75 Years of the Lyric Theatre and the opening of the major new exhibition A House of Play.

Recorded at the Lyric itself, this episode dives into the story of a theatre that has shaped generations of artists, writers and audiences. Robin & Jane meet Clare O’Malley, granddaughter of the Lyric’s visionary founder Mary O’Malley, who reflects on her grandmother’s legacy and the fearless spirit that gave the theatre life back in 1951.

They’re also joined by Claire Murray, Head of Marketing & Development, who gives us a sneak peek at the exciting programme of events planned as part of the anniversary celebrations.

A House of Play: 75 Years of the Lyric Theatre Belfast opens to the public this week and runs from 30 January to 8 November 2026. Curated by Kim Mawhinney, the free exhibition charts the Lyric’s journey from Mary O’Malley’s home on Derryvolgie Avenue to its role today as Northern Ireland’s only producing theatre and a vital creative hub. The exhibition places Mary O’Malley firmly at the heart of the story and highlights the Lyric’s influence on artists such as Seamus Heaney, Brian Friel, Helen Lewis, John Hewitt and Sam McCready.

Expect stunning artworks from the Lyric’s historic New Gallery, rare editions of Threshold magazine, a recreation of the original home theatre, archival treasures, and a newly commissioned artwork by Colin Davidson.

The opening week is packed with special performances, music, poetry, talks and screenings featuring guests including Medbh McGuckian, Anne Devlin, Colin Davidson and more. ✨

From sequins to sci-fi, Adam Strong shines as the fabulously wicked Frank’n’Furter, and Robin & Jane are here to dish all the deliciously naughty details. Is it a show worth shouting "Dammit, Janet!" for? Tune in and find out!

This week Robin & Jane have been to The Mac to see the new play, What Did You Do For Ireland, Da? by Bronagh Diamond. The play tells the story of one family from the New Lodge Road and their 17 year-old son, Jamie as he struggles to make sense of his sexuality and the world around him.

To mark five years since the first lockdown, hapless freedom fighters, the Dundonald Liberation Army, are back with their sell-out, smash-hit comedy Lockdown DLA! Robin & Jane have been to The Mac this week as Davy "The Venezuelan" Taylor and his right-hand man John "Horse" McCracken are being forced to isolate together in their high-rise flat but what will our reviewers make of this?

The smash hit show Only Fools and Horses the Musical - direct from a record-breaking four-year sold-out run-in London’s West End has arrived at Belfast's Grand Opera House, starring comedy legend Paul Whitehouse as Grandad! But was this a truly cushty night out for Robin & Jane!

From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power. SIX has arrived at The Grand Opera House, Belfast & Robin & Jane are In The Stalls!!

Robin & Jane were brave enough to check out the UK Touring Production of Ghost Stories at Belfast's Grand Opera House!

This truly terrifying theatrical experience was created by The League of Gentlemen’s Jeremy Dyson, and Andy Nyman, co-creator of Derren Brown’s television and stage shows. Ghost Stories mixes the very best of theatre with the buzz of a thrill-ride, delivering something truly unique......but do our theatre reviwers agree??

Robin & Jane were back in the stalls...or rather in the pews on Friday for Johanna Gallagher's one woman show Queen Of The Bees at The Sanctuary Theatre in East Belfast.
