Bonus Episode: A PVT Chat with director Ben Hozie23 Feb 202100:43:00

Our latest episode is a slight detour from our regular pods as the guys had the pleasure of speaking to the multi-talented musician and director Ben Hozie about his latest film 'PVT Chat', a movie about Jack (Peter Vack), a lonely internet gambler who develops an obsession with Scarlett (Julia Fox), a cam girl based in San Francisco.

In the interview, Ben talks about the experience of making PVT Chat, clashing with American censorship and gives us his thoughts on the 2009 Oscars (which will of course be our next episode!)

You can check out 'PVT Chat' in the UK via Curzon Home Cinema, or check out Just Watch for streaming services in your country.

Here's a link to our review of the movie

Episode 9: 201621 Jan 202101:39:26

Revisiting the Oscars latest episode brings us as close to the present day as we've been in this series, and our first taste of an Oscars year with a higher number of Best Picture nominees! That makes for a bumper, 'feature length' episode, which only just comes in shorter than this years shortest film in 'Hell or High Water'.

2016 was the infamous year when 'La La Land' was prematurely announced as the winner, stealing the thunder of 'Moonlight'. We also have our first taste of science fiction in 'Arrival', a war film ('Hacksaw Ridge') and a film about depression ('Manchester by the Sea'), described as enjoyable by our resident miserabilist! It's a cracking year with lots of great films and plenty of talking points.

As always, we also get into what was happening in 2016 around the globe and in our own lives, but sadly no cricket update this episode - tune in to future episodes to find out when Mason's career reached its conclusion....

2016 Best Picture Nominees

Episode 37: 1995 - Braveheart05 Sep 202401:19:29

It's the one you've all been waiting for as 2 Scots and an Englishman tackle the story (or not as the case may be!) of William Wallace in Mel Gibson's historical Scottish epic Braveheart! That of course means its 1995, a year at the heart of the Britpop scene with some cracking movies to match out in the cinema.

Alongside discussing the merits of Braveheart, its cultural impact and benefits to the Stirling tourism scene we also have a couple of rarities with a non-English language film in Il Postino (The Postman) and a children's film in Babe.

Emma Thompson makes her second podcast appearance with Sense and Sensibility, another British period drama - will this one charm us any more than all the others we've seen so far?!

And of course we're also looking back at Apollo 13, Ron Howard's docudrama about the disastrous space mission of the same name, led by Tom Hanks at the peak of his powers.
