Ten nominees. One gold statue. On this episode of Revisiting the Oscars we’re revisiting every Best Picture contender ahead of the Oscars — from the undeniable masterpieces to the prestige indies to 'F1', the feature-length Formula 1 commercial that somehow found itself in the race. Who’s taking the big prize and who has got no chance of making it to the front from the back of the grid?
In our latest episode we're going back more than 50 years to 1971 where we'll be seeing Gene Hackman, a classic musical and another appearance from a podcast favourite...
On this episode we’ll be looking at a gritty New York crime saga that redefined the cop thriller in The French Connection, the sweeping yet tragic portrait of Russia’s doomed royal family in Nicholas and Alexandra, the timeless story of tradition and change in Fiddler on the Roof, a haunting exploration of lost innocence in The Last Picture Show, and Stanley Kubrick’s audacious, controversial vision of violence and control in A Clockwork Orange. Together, they capture a moment when Hollywood was pushing boundaries, questioning authority, and reshaping what a Best Picture nominee could be.
All this and our usual features, banter, trivia and insights!

It's the one you've all been waiting for as 2 Scots and an Englishman tackle the story (or not as the case may be!) of William Wallace in Mel Gibson's historical Scottish epic Braveheart! That of course means its 1995, a year at the heart of the Britpop scene with some cracking movies to match out in the cinema.
Alongside discussing the merits of Braveheart, its cultural impact and benefits to the Stirling tourism scene we also have a couple of rarities with a non-English language film in Il Postino (The Postman) and a children's film in Babe.
Emma Thompson makes her second podcast appearance with Sense and Sensibility, another British period drama - will this one charm us any more than all the others we've seen so far?!
And of course we're also looking back at Apollo 13, Ron Howard's docudrama about the disastrous space mission of the same name, led by Tom Hanks at the peak of his powers.
