| 165: Does your ADHD child lash out physically? | 28 Sep 2026 | 00:37:00 | |
In this episode I share the findings from 4 studies that look at the physical aggression of ADHD children. I connect the dots from these studies to what is likely happening in your home with your ADHD child when they are frustrated, have been told no, or are being asked to transition. The data suggests that 78.9% of the people who will listen to this podcast have experienced some form of child to parent violence during a moment of dysregulation. That means you are most certainly not alone. My hope in this episode is to share a bigger picture about what is happening for your child as well as proven strategies that will support YOU in the moment as well as strategies that will begin to develop the lagging skills so these moments are no longer common occurrences in your home. | 164: Your anticipation of the fight with your ADHD kid, is likely causing the exact fight you don't want! | 21 Sep 2026 | 00:28:30
Over the past week so many parents shared with me that managing their child's mood was like walking on eggshells. They were constantly scanning for things that would trigger their child or set them off. And they'd try to avoid it but all the strategies used seemed to intensify the moment or backfire completely. In this week's episode I talk about that anticipatory anxiety and how our nervous system's survival strategy is failing us. And I give you steps on how to rebuild that predictability so both you and your child come to these triggering moments in a different way. I give you an example from my own home around the Chrome Book (something my son wants more of and I want less of) and how we were able to rebuild this high conflict moment into something that is collaborative and calm. 🎉STOP YELLING! The hope of something new "working" and the sadness that comes almost instantaneously as we think of all the things we've tried that haven't worked. | 162: The chronic hard moments that end in lectures or fights | 07 Sep 2026 | 00:28:34
I'm no stranger to a lecture. In fact, that's all my body knows as a solution for high conflict. That's all my dad did and I'm drawn to that as the solution to the hard moments with my ADHD kid. In this episode I share some of the underlying reasons we reach for lectures and punishments in hard patterns. And how these choices fuel the conflict even more. I share a few steps you can take right now to start moving the needle in the direction of the desired behavior. 🎉STOP YELLING! | 161: Why does my ADHD kid LOVE to fight with me?! | 31 Aug 2026 | 00:24:09
This episode is for you if your ADHDer is prone to conflict. If your child appears to seek out a sibling, escalates with you quickly after hearing an answer they don't like, has to do a non-preferred task that is SO BORING!! I break down a few bits of science that is really helpful to understand WHY their brain is doing what it's doing. And once we know this, what can WE do as the parent to stop feeding the conflict and start building louder more positive options in the desired behavior pattern we want to see. 🎉STOP YELLING! | 160: Frustration INTOLERANCE and how to not join your ADHD kid in their meltdown | 24 Aug 2026 | 00:33:26
In this episode I break down a very intense moment between my ADHD child, his grandparents, and us (his parents) when his idea didn't go exactly as he wanted. I share how the moment unfolded, what was going on for him and me during the argument, and how I supported us both through the fire. This episode is truly about frustration tolerance. How do we build it, how can we teach it, and that really pivotal moment where it feels like nothing is working. What do we do… I know better and I still lose it on my ADHD kid You're not being a bad parent, your nervous system hits a tipping point and it launches into protection mode. 🎉STOP YELLING! | 159: Does your ADHD kid tell you what they're doing INSTEAD of doing what you just asked!?!?! | 17 Aug 2026 | 00:23:31
This was a HUGE ah ha moment for me and my ADHD son this summer. We've been in this pattern for as long as he's been able to talk. I ask him to do something, he tells me what he's doing instead. This has led to us BOTH being very reactive and triggered and it's been one pattern I haven't been able to crack. UNTIL NOW! In this episode I break down the exact moment we figured it out, how things have changed since, and exactly how we are practicing it so we can lower the defensive walls and start communicating more respectfully! 🎉STOP YELLING! | 157: Why so many high-achieving moms feel exhausted with Dr. Anne Welsh | 03 Aug 2026 | 00:36:20
Get ready for an amazing conversation with Dr. Anne Welsh, a psychologist, executive coach, working mother, and the author of the upcoming book, Ambitious Mother: From Surviving to Thriving in Your Career and at Home (Bloomsbury, 8/6/26). As a mother who has navigated the demands of career ambition alongside parenting, she understands the invisible pressure many women feel to succeed at work while being fully present at home, often at the cost of their own well-being. Through Ambitious Mother, Dr. Welsh challenges the myth that mothers must choose between success and sanity. She offers a compassionate, research-backed roadmap to help women redefine ambition in ways that support both their families and themselves. In this episode we talk about the mental load that leaves many high achieving moms exhausted and what to do about it. We talk about perfectionism as well as how to model healthy ambition to our kiddos. 🎉STOP YELLING! | 155: Does your ADHD kid think they're "the bad kid?" And do you agree? | 20 Jul 2026 | 00:30:18
In this emotional episode I share a deeply pivotal moment in my son's ADHD journey. This is the episode for every parent who's said the unplanned, unfiltered thing and immediately hated themselves for it. What happens in our body before that moment, and why it keeps happening. When we hear "I hate you." or "you're the worst parent." These things come out of tiny mouths during dysregulation and how it hits us like a ton of bricks. I share how this happened to me over the weekend and I break down what I did in response. Not perfectly, but how I helped myself and my son through this really hard moment. My son told me this and I've never forgotten it: I keep escalating until somebody joins me in the fight, because then I'm not the only one doing the bad thing. 🎉STOP YELLING! | 153: Why is it so hard to say YES to your ADHD kid? | 06 Jul 2026 | 00:15:49
This past weekend we had experienced several bumpy moments with my ADHD son. Things that we had been working on that weren't clicking the way I had hoped. Then we had a decent chunk of time where things were going WELL! It was fun, we were enjoying each other and I could see his effort. Then he started asking for some extra things. Nothing crazy, literally an extra scoop of ice cream and some sprinkles. And I could FEEL my body want to grab the "no" and stay there. I felt an instant resistance to saying yes. This episode dives into WHY I believe this was happening. I also share how I shifted my mindset and how I moved forward after recognizing this resistance. 🎉STOP YELLING! | 150: Why is my ADHD kid MEAN!? | 15 Jun 2026 | 00:31:17
Have you noticed that when your ADHD kid is dysregulated it comes out as being plain nasty?! For lack of a better word, they turn into a total asshole! New EEG research shows that 96% of hyperactive-impulsive ADHD kids have a significant difference in frontal lobe activity during frustrating moments. And the net result is anger and aggression. Of that 96%, 63% is severe. This is important to note, because in neurotypical children, this outcome is 12%. This tells us it's less a behavior choice and more of a wiring reality. To me, this is empowering. Because now we know more and we can do more with this information. Inside this episode I share some critical mindset shifts as well as practical ways we can start to move the needle forward. As promised from the episode here are the 3 next options:

| 143: It's Never Too Late to Be a Great Parent with Catherine Hickem | 27 Apr 2026 | 00:51:20 | |
EVEN THOUGH I am not a parent to an adult child, I was struck by how many things Catherine shared that we can be doing NOW as parents of young children to set us up for an incredible relationship when our kids are older. For over 40 years, Catherine Hickem has helped families navigate emotional complexity with clarity and purpose. A licensed clinical social worker, seasoned psychotherapist, and executive coach, Catherine has worked with thousands of parents and professionals alike—guiding them through seasons of conflict, change, and growth. Through her platform, Parenting Adult Children Today, she provides resources that are clear-eyed and compassionate, rooted in both clinical experience and personal story. Catherine speaks with empathy and credibility, as a professional who has seen these wounds play out in therapy rooms, and as a mother who has walked the path of reconnection and herself. Her message challenges parents to reflect rather than react, to trade control for curiosity, and to do the inner work required to become a safe and steady presence in their children's adult lives. Catherien's upcoming book It's Never Too Late to Be a Great Parent is coming out this year, and you can find Catherine here: https://www.parentingadultchildrentoday.com/ 🎉STOP YELLING! | 132: Parenting amidst America's chaos | 09 Feb 2026 | 00:21:15
It feels impossible to know what to do as an American mother in the early months of 2026. Nothing about this is normal. Nothing. I do not claim to be an expert on politics. I acknowledge that as a white woman, I've inherited a level of privilege that many have not. And I do not pretend to know all the levels deep and the immense complexities others are facing on a daily basis. And, this is a moment in history that will affect every single person. In this episode I share my views on how to support yourself so you can support your children. How you can harness your emotions and take action in alignment with your values. My hope is that this conversation provides helpful steps to take so you are not feeling like you're stuck on the spin cycle of headlines and chaos. My hope is that you don't feel like you're floating alone in all that is unfolding. 🎉REWIRE with ResponseABLE Parenting🎉 Put an end to the exhausting patterns you find yourself in day in and day out with your kids. In this episode I share 2 very specific moments in my parenting that I saw how external influences changed my internal state. And how when that was triggered, it pushed me right into a predictable pattern of reactivity. This experience showed me once again how important our internal health, sense of safety, and ability to regulate truly is because our emotional state transforms how we interact and react to the external. It can be so strong it makes us believe false realities that can keep us stuck in miserable, makes us react to false narratives false and storylines that we not only react to but end up believing and in living into. 🎉REWIRE with ResponseABLE Parenting🎉 Put an end to the exhausting patterns you find yourself in day in and day out with your kids. In this episode I share a story from my family of origin and how I discovered a clear and potential pattern in my own parenting. I share how easy it would be for this pattern to be how I engaged my own strong-willed kid and how easy it is to fall into this trap. I also walk you through how we can change the pattern and empower ourselves to a deeper understanding of self, as well as learning how to own our responses vs. making it anyone else's job (including our kids) to solve, in order for us to feel better. 🎉REWIRE with ResponseABLE Parenting🎉 Put an end to the exhausting patterns you find yourself in day in and day out with your kids. | 129: We miss the ROOT of the problem our RUSH to solve it | 19 Jan 2026 | 00:27:04
I noticed over the break the rush to solve something I didn't like seeing with my kids. A quick conversation after being pulled into another room, a fast directive at the dinner table, etc. However, in that rush, I noticed my dysregulation didn't go away, in fact, it amplified as the guilt of not doing it the way I wanted to the first time started to creep in. In this episode I talk about how my 4 step neural rewiring process works in specific situations. I share what each step looks like in the moment as well as how we can (once we're confidently applying it ourselves) begin to help our children through the same process. If this is something you'd like to explore as a solution to the challenges you're facing with your own reactivity, please reach out to me. becky@responseableparenting.com 🎉REWIRE with ResponseABLE Parenting🎉 Put an end to the exhausting patterns you find yourself in day in and day out with your kids. | 128: Parenting in the age of AI with AI Literacy Educator, Gerry White | 12 Jan 2026 | 00:30:57
We might have grown up in the era of landlines and call waiting…but our kids are growing up with AI. It's unavoidable and so we need to know how to talk about it. In this episode I interview AI Literacy Educator & Critical Thinking Advocate, Gerry White on all things parenting with AI. We discuss how to use it as a tool, how to put safeguards around the use of AI, and how to empower our kids to use their own brains and not outsource all critical thinking to AI. I learned a lot, I cannot wait to share this conversation with you! You can find Gerry White here! 🎉REWIRE with ResponseABLE Parenting🎉 Put an end to the exhausting patterns you find yourself in day in and day out with your kids. | 127: Ditch the lectures - try this instead | 05 Jan 2026 | 00:21:54
In this episode I share a technique I tried with my very defensive, strong-willed ADHD son when he was caught crossing a screen boundary. After attempting traditional talking and getting ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE I tried something different. What came out of it was nothing short of remarkable. He opened up and was totally vulnerable. He shared what was really going on and we were able to address the ROOT of the issue, not just the surface level unwanted behavior. 🎉REWIRE with ResponseABLE Parenting🎉 Put an end to the exhausting patterns you find yourself in day in and day out with your kids. | 122. My S.H.!.T. List | 01 Dec 2025 | 00:16:55
This episode is for the parents of very impulsive kiddos. Who tends to be the common denominator when injuries or broken items happen. I share how I'm leaning into the risky / not allowed word "shit" to activate my son's brain and help him through a safety checklist before acting. This isn't a complete solution for impulsivity! But it's helping my son grow his situational awareness and the more reps he takes, the better he'll be able to manage impulsive urges! 🎉REWIRE with ResponseABLE Parenting🎉 Put an end to the exhausting patterns you find yourself in day in and day out with your kids. | 121. My strategy for a regulated holiday | 24 Nov 2025 | 00:21:24
In this episode I share how to approach the holidays from a nervous system perspective. When there is prediction there is less friction. So we are not leaving the days up to chance. We are creating focused blocks of time that engage our children in activities they like and want to do. We are prioritizing what they want to have happen and we are creating a little mystery with some special time blocks as well. Additionally, with extended family, let's get them on board by creating a menu to choose from where they get their 1:1 time, but with things that are predictable and accepted. And finally, the main key to making this all work is the regulation breaks that help us transition out of one activity into the next. I hope this serves you very well this holiday and I can't wait to hear how you implement this strategy!
