I agonised over who to use for interior trimming.

With any company I choose to use for my Outlaw Cayman, the hope is that I'll have a great experience so that when it comes to building the RENN550, I've got the relationships and trust in place to know the product at the end is what I'm looking for.

I'm frustratingly difficult as a customer. I have such high expectations of people that it's rare that I'm completely satisfied. That's not to say everyone is awful. Far from it. But, companies are trying to make a profit, so you either pay for that last 2% of quality with 80% more outlay. Or you accept great, but not perfect, as the end result.

The other part of it, is the person behind the company. What are they like? Are they good to their staff? Are they willing to stand behind their work, or come up with excuses, or worse, lie... Yes, by the way I've had that during the Cayman build.

The great news is that Dave, of Dave The Trimmer, ticks all the boxes.

I first saw Dave's 964 at Flat 6 show at Goodwood Circuit. I was bowled over. I'm sure most people look at his Guards Red, low AF 964 and take a peak at the interior and think it's nice... and move on.

I spent 15 minutes just looking at the interior alone. Trying to get my head around how he managed to ghost fade pasha on grey Alcantara. How the stitch was arrow straight and even at every seam.

Then I spoke to him and he humoured the perfectionist in me. No... scratch that...reverse it... he seemed to enjoy the challenge.

It's fair to say that throughout the process of designing the trimming plans for my car, we didn't quite get on the same page. But there was trust on both sides.

The result? It's a show stopper. People seem to appreciate the aesthetic of the Outlaw Cayman, but go nuts for the interior.

I just can't wait to see what he does with a Lotus/550 Spyder hybrid. It's going to be wild.

Flipping heck.

Sometimes you get to speak to someone and wonder what living their life must have been like. Chatting to Graeme and his wife Kerry, at Porsche in the Park 2024, allowed me (and you) to get an insight in to that. At least a little bit...

From crashing his first car and putting himself firmly in hospital after passing his driving test 20 days prior, to racing at Daytona, to the Porsche Championship and winning races (draws breath), to collecting and owning a Porsche Carrera GT, Graeme has the t-shirt(s), the cups and the scars to prove all.

I said it before, but I'll say it for the bleachers... The cars are cool, but the people are cooler.

It's hard shooting a road trip, being in the moment and then getting a podcast episode recorded, edited and out. So it's a couple of days later than planned but it's here!

After five days on the road, I sat down with a good mate of mine and we talked about the trip so far, his Porsche experience and being mates for 25 years.

It's been a fascinating road trip, and I give a sneaky peak in to one of the odd things that happened just that day.

This week's episode comes a day late! The unintended consequence of locking your Mac, mic, storage devices etc in the trunk/boot of your car and then BRICK the car!! Just days before the start of a massive road trip.

I personally enjoy shooting Tech Talk episodes the most! They're all special but as an engineer, the opportunity to be inquisitive, ask seemingly dumb questions and have an expert teach me (and you) about what it takes to be an expert, and get a proper behind the scenes... It's a real privilege to do that.

This weeks Tech Talk follows on from the previous Renngineering episode where I unveiled the RENN550 in much greater detail. You can see that on YouTube right now!

Let's face it, everyone loves a bit of carbon fibre. You see it everywhere, from F1 cars to a roll of sticky back stuff on eBay. Please don't by that tat...

But even when it's real carbon, there are quality differences between mass produced low quality and relatively cheap parts, and motorsport or supercar quality. Osport design and produce high quality carbon fibre parts to some of the biggest household name Porsche companies (and others) out there!

Last week the trailer for the RENN550 was made public.

Today, I break down the design details and share some of the partners involved in creating what will be one of the few truly remarkable sports cars. It's a big statement, but in a world of huge horsepower, huge tyres and excess, the RENN550 stands alone.

Lightweight, appropriate power and torque, low to medium grip. The car will be designed to feel urgent but move around on the throttle. To feel like a Porsche 550 Spyder but on steroids.

The intention for this project is to reimagine the Porsche 550 Spyder silhouette. Capitalising on the beautiful shape and dimensions, however, using latest technology materials and construction to create a road-going sports car that embodies everything from both yesteryear and today.

There are three key design acknowledgements.

- Lotus 111 chassis as a platform to build upon.

- Carbon fibre composite body construction.

- Aircooled Porsche derived powertrain.

The intent is to produce a low volume sports car, tailorable for any market (LHD/RHD/Central position). Additional sponsorship is being sought.

Options for system/build contribution, product, and financial, are all options.

After what feels like years, Caffeine and Machine open their new venue in the south of England, in the rolling Hampshire countryside, to a sell-out crowd. I got there for opening day to see it for myself and get a few minutes with the previous manager and their feelings on seeing it transition for a fairly stale pub, to heaven for petrolheads. It really does feel. like home.

I pick up (again) the pricing and sales market for Porsche with some shocking discoveries. Pretty soon you'll be able to buy a Taycan for the same price as a bottle of nice whisky!

The @outlawcayman modifications start to draw to a close and by the end of the year, it'll be on long-term hiatus as the RENN550 gets going. Not before some choice interior changes though.

Finally, I pick up the thread on the RENN550 and talk about the fact that RIGHT NOW, the first teaser trailer for the build is live on YouTube. I'll be shooting a watch back video this weekend for a Sunday launch where I'll go in to all the detail and begin to talk about who the partners for the build are and schedule in the partner Tech Talk's already shot.

James Lee from Outlaw Gear smiles, a lot! It's infectious and I realised why when I met him in person at Boxengasse 2023. Surrounded by Porsche fans, in a stunning location just outside of the Cotswolds, and with a kaleidoscope of colour parked all around. When I stopped to check myself, I realised I had the same goofy smile.

That's what this culture does to you. When you immerse yourself in it, surround yourself with good people and in Outlaw Gears case, create a business to bring yourself closer still. Nailed it.

Sometimes a car gains its own following. No one really knows how it happens, but the internet lights up with chatter. This 997.1 GT3 picked up its own fan club, not because of the spec or having some fancy PTS colour, but because of the miles the car has on it (currently 188000 miles).

I originally met Henry, the owner, at Goodwood during the Flat6 show, but we had been chatting on and off over the few months prior.

As usual with these shoots, what was clear is that the owner was as cool as the car! Initially I had attempted to bring together the previous owners to talk through the cars entire life. That would have been cool right!? Sadly, despite efforts, it wasn't to be.

Thankfully, Henry and I settled down in Autumn 2023 in his garage, pretended it wasn't really a bit too cold to do a shoot and ran through his backstory, only to find out that his first car was a Porsche!

It's not the only cool car he had but you'll have to tune in to find out what.

In this Renngineering Heritage episode, I pick up a conversation I initially had with PJ Gibbons after seeing his stunning war horse of a 356a, at a small car meet.

PJ had picked a parking spot in front of some skips. When everyone else was focused on putting their car pride of place outside the front of Podium Place in Newbury, PJ knew the aesthetic would suit his car perfectly.

That, to me... sums up PJ.

Humble and relaxed. Minimum effort, but maximum style. I can feel the cringe emerging from PJ reading this.

The reality is though, there is something easy about real style. It’s a case of the harder you try, the worse at it you are.

I learned a lot from the shoot. I found a new friend. I had my first ever drive in a Porsche 356. I found that the expectation of a wallowy, marshmallow of a car couldn’t have been further from the truth.

PJ never claims the car is a show queen, nor does he want it to be. The car needs coaxing in to life. In fact, in the last few days he messaged me to say that his six year old fixed it.

🧇 Mick is back! We managed to grab a proper chunk of time to sit and record a whole waffle!

Thankfully Mick also came armed to the gills with ideas for content to talk about. I never sell myself as a Formula 1 expert but it was fun to reflect on Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari. What that means, and whether he's going to eclipse Michael Schumacher and pick up his 8th Championship win.

We also talk about the new hypercar from Red Bull and Mick managed to take me from muted interest to fascinated. Normally hypercars are so far from being related to normal people that I can't get emotional about them. Some of the detail around the engine and aero design is unreal.

We also spend an inordinate amount of time talking about EV's! The anti-hero. The balance between necessity and reality when thinking about how doable running an EV is as an only car. There definitely seems to be a jump in interest, but not for proper range figures, for such a wobbly financial market surrounding them.

We wrap up with a challenge! What Porsche should you get for 30-40k GBP. You'll have to tune in to find out our recommendation.

Barry Hart. A name you may have heard but possibly not. Hartech... if you've owned a Porsche, or even thinking about an early model water-cooled P-car, it's highly likely you've heard the name.

If you've listened for a while, you'll know that Renngineering isn't only about the tech side of Porsche ownership. It's about the people and culture that goes behind it. When you've been working on these cars as long as Barry Hart (78 years young), there isn't a lot you haven't seen before and don't know.

He's forgotten more than I'll ever know.

He's also one of life's really lovely human beings. Not satisfied with being a Doc from Back to the Future level of engineering mind, he built a team of passionate enthusiasts. Then nurtured them in to also being geniuses.

WHAT AN EPIC!

Michael Lenzi. What a legend. I pride myself on being able to bring a story to life. At least I try... Michael, this weeks Your Porsche Stories guest really can sell a story arc!

Michael reached out late last year and after some back and forth we managed to sit down. Now, what I hadn't told Michael is that with the time zone difference, and me figuring it'll be 20-25 minutes as standard for a YPS episode, I held off having some food. Well an hour and a half later, with my stomach groaning but fascinated and not wanting to go, we started to wrap up.

This week I'm back with a new Your Porsche Stories episode with an older guy, still loving life and loving the Porsche brand.

I met the chap, whose name I never managed to get, and the passion he had then and still has really came over.

I also take a bit of time to update on some exciting news at Porsche in the Park where I'll be doing a LIVE Tech Talk with Hartech, that if you have tickets, you can come and watch it all happen. If you have questions you want me to ask, send those over and I'll do my best to make sure we get through some of them!

I also talk about some of the feathers being ruffled in the U.K. Porsche scene and wonder whether that's a global thing or just part of growth of the brand over here on our little island.

This week I'm back with a new Your Porsche Stories episode with Ross and his 1972 911T that is anything but stock.

Ross emailed in to Renngineering info@renngineering.com late last year and after a little shifting around to accommodate the time difference, we managed to catch up.

What's beautiful about these sessions is that they're all very different. The experiences in building a car. Whether it's a group project or something of a solo effort. Whether it's all out nut and bolt or like my good friend Ajmal, a rolling restoration.

The introduction also picks up on Goldleaf Performance and their GT4RS side intake kit that's just been launched, I need. Body parts are now for sale. 50p and a spleen is yours.

As Renn Builds kicks off again on the YouTube channel, there's an opportunity to pick back up on another Your Porsche Stories episode. This time with good friend of Renngineering, Andre, of Legends Drivers Club fame.

I also am able to start talking about the 2024 show season and my appearance and a LIVE Tech Talk episode in the morning and a Heritage episode in the afternoon. In this roundup of the year, I talk about how much the latest YouTube video figures have blown my mind. Doubling subscriber figures in 24 hours is humbling!

It isn't without its awkwardness though. Being so transparent about mental heath in a public setting obviously brings its own anxiety. Clearly I'm not about to become Andrew Tate's best mate (nor would I want to) but I'm committed to being a normal, open and honest person. If that means doing an Eminem and getting in there before anyone else can, then so be it.

The reality is I've had a lot of messages of support and people saying that it's helped them. In less than a day!?

Other than that I pick up on some of the news out there. A Taycan (Tai-can/Tay-can?) smashing a Tesla Plaid around the ring and coming within 2 seconds of a Rimac around the Nordschliefe. Very impressive.... for a washing machine.

Lastly, I talk about all the amazing people I've met and shot with during 2023. Some of that content is out. Some is coming out soon.

Welcome to a pre-Christmas Waffle episode!

This weeks YouTube video was on a short episode on me building up my little VW Up! to be a little (very slow) road racer using a few choice Porsche parts!

That video wasn't going to work on podcast platforms with its Timelapse's so I asked Mick who's appeared on the podcast a few times, and Nathan who kindly joined to talk about his motorsport career, all the way through to Formula 1.

We headed down to the local pub for a properly overdue Waffle.

In this episode, I catch up with Lydia from RPM Technik.

Lydia and I got to know each other in the early days of Renngineering, and after sharing my dream, invited me to spend time with her for the day.

One of the things we share a passion for is customer relationships.

How to build them, how to maintain them and how they can help grow your business. Not only that but more often than not, those business relationships translate in to friendships. RPM Technik are class leading with this. Many of the P-Cars being sold, have been through their hands two, three or even four times.

What I didn't grasp before I arrived at RPM is the scale of the operation. I knew about the Manthey Racing dealer element and the track prep, but it took until I edited this video to recall how broad they go.

You want to build a cup car race engine? Sure. You have a dry stored 959 that needs recommissioning? Of course. You want to purchase an 18 month GT2 RS? No problem.

In this episode, I sit down with Mikey Wastie, Managing Director of Autofarm.

We're back! Season 3 couldn't kick off without some good, old fashioned Waffle.

We kick off with a general catch up and talk through the car park, given we've gatecrashed at Porsche Portsmouth, whilst Mick drops his car in for its THIRD PADM module since birth.

After moaning about the one British part on the car, we get in to the chance to get back on the road, and how great our experiences are with Michelin tyres! With Michelin having recently collaborated with Renngineering, it has given us time to learn a little more about what really goes in to tyre manufacture. Stay tuned for developments and possibly a future Tech Talk episode!

We start to wrap up by talking about my car briefly before a deeper conversation about what's happening with the Porsche culture scene in the U.K. and clubs vs organic online communities. It's a less widely talked about topic and we weigh in on our thoughts.

There's a gap between homebrew builds, small bespoke pro builders, the bigger outfits with full teams and one tracked minded race teams.

In this episode I talk to both Mike Champion from Mike Champion Engineering who mixes it up between the bespoke pro builds and race cars with someone of a similar mindset but a bigger outfit, Richard Tuthill.

Richard Tuthill is a rally driver. He's a car builder. Mate of Chris Harris's and produces some of the worlds best modified Porsche cars.

There's a healthy middle slice of the Venn diagram with these two people though. I'm not talking about the fact they both are incredibly knowledgeable about the cars. It's the passion that exists still, despite being involved in the industry for decades.

What. A. Week...

At this point, I've really no idea what "going viral" means and it would definitely be a stretch to say the channel went viral, but it definitely jumped to a level I never expected. At the point of recording this episode it hit about 4000 but at the time of writing this, just a few days later, it's about 5600 views.

I talk a bit about the Magnus Walker STR2 that made its way across the pond a few years ago and is now going up for sale here in Blighty! Fingers crossed it stays around down south.

Finally I managed to stumble on a photographers dump of relic originals on eBay. Dozens of them, with some of the best and most iconic P-cars you'll ever see.

This week it's a bumper content drop with the 2nd Renn Builds episode going live at 6pm GMT on the 29th October.

Episode 18 | Renn Builds | 3 years with a Porsche Cayman 981

I’m back! It’s been a few weeks and they have been hectic with shoots, so getting editing time has been tough (enough with the excuses I know).

Episode 17 | Your Porsche Story | The Zombieland Cayenne

In this episode I have a random encounter with the owner of a Zombieland/apocolypse Gen 1 Cayenne, complete with roof test, lift kit and A/T tyres.

Driving through France in July on my epic solo road trip (content coming as a Christmas Special) I barely saw any P-Cars. Then pulling in to Reims Gueux circuit, I see this crazy Cayenne and had to chat to the guy. Turns out he was a properly nice bloke with an eclectic and large collection of cars!

Not historically a Cayenne fan, you have to love the adventure spirit (jeez, I sound like Bear Grylls...) that owner Martin Kennedy has. Having never owned a Porsche before, Martin put his big boy pants on and bought one and immediately went on a road trip around Europe with his partner and son! Even after a technical hiccup just before departure!

It's a shorter episode this one so enough time to grab a coffee and settle in.

Episode 16 | Your Porsche Story | Home Built by Jeff

In this episode I sit down and talk to Jeff of Home Built by Jeff fame.

Jeff's channel has grown dramatically over the last few years and whilst he is incredibly humble, it's down to his energetic style and raw enthusiasm for trying something; anything!

I'm a big fan of Jeff's which immediately comes across as I lose any sense of process and get straight in to the Porsche talk. On reflection that mimics Jeff's style. Do it and rework it later but learn along the way.

Learning along the way is a big part of Renngineering. It's how this channels builds will progress. The main difference being that we'll contract in services where necessary as the product, the RENN550 is going to be sold after completion. Jeff builds his cars for himself though so we talk about the iterative process of trial and error. I've always been up front about the fact that whilst I love Porsche, I'm no expert.

What better way to learn than to meet and chat to people that are, but bring you on the journey with me. It's a full episode and we spend around 60 minutes talking so I'd get a big mug off coffee...

Jeff and I really hit it off and I think that comes over in the episode as well. When he eventually does return to the U.K. I'm hoping to catch him.

Episode 15! Heritage - Frank Cassidy

It's fair to say that Frank Cassidy is well known in the U.K. Porsche scene. Whether it's from the outstanding annual event at Boxengasse HQ, Megaphonics, or from his own personal collection of P-Cars, whatever he does, it's carried out with the precision of a heart surgeon.

Prior to my Niners Unplugged episode (available on the Boxengasse Niners Unplugged YouTube channel, I reached out to Frank to come to Bicester and meet with him.

If you're new to Renngineering, you might have missed that there's a number of different playlists. This is the first "Heritage" episode, where you and I will learn together about what makes the brand, it's history and how it all came about.

I've always been up front about the fact that whilst I love Porsche, I'm no expert. What better way to learn than to meet and chat to people that are, but bring you on the journey with me.

It's a full episode and we spend around 45 minutes talking about Frank's backstory, why he loves Porsche and some myths around him.

On a personal note, it felt like two old mates sat at the pub chewing the fat and that's exactly what I want from these episodes.

Waffle 14!

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2023.Arriving on Thursday seemed like a sensible thing to do after three years of being there on the main days and this year was a stroke of luck after the downpour of Friday and cancellation of Saturday.

For many this will be one to forget, very sadly.

That stroke of luck however, led to some really interesting conversations.

Nic joins me again on this one and you'll hear our take on lots of the P-Car elements of the show before I get in to conversations with the following. I put my big boy pants on for this.

• Manthey Racing. Manthey were showing the GT4 RS and Spyder RS and it was the first opportunity for me to see Spyder in person. It didn't disappoint.
• Singer. Whilst it's great to hear a press release, it's also great to hear from people working at the company whose day jobs are working on the cars themselves.
• Porsche GB. We walked the stand and were talked through some of the finer points of the stand, plus the future of the brand.
• Gunther Werks. The most in-depth conversation and I came away with genuine excitement over the brand and can't wait to see the facility for myself. If they let me :D

The second of the two episodes for Flat 6 at Goodwood.

Barry... What can you say about him? He's a lovely guy and I really enjoy his company. It's very funny hearing him talk about cars he's never seen and has no Porsche community connection to. Everything is taken on face value with impressions.

Maybe there's something in that?

It's not all roasting cars though. We do get in to some of the real hits for both of us, including an absolutely stunning 1973 911 RS with some serious provenance.

Finally, Flat 6 rolled around again. The wonderful Porsche event held a Goodwood race circuit, in West Sussex, not Hampshire as I incorrectly said! :D

Another busy day with loads of amazing show cars, mixed with enthusiast builds, topped off with a track day. It's a hard one to beat.

In this Waffle episode, Paul considers whether the Volkswagen Beetle chassis is the right direction and whether it's just too flawed for the RENN550, 550 Spyder Evocation build on the main Renngineering YouTube channel.

In this full length waffle episode, I join Mick in his 2020 Porsche 718 GT4. The first time I've ever been in a 718 GT4, and we chew the fat as we head up to Northampton, home of the world famous Silverstone circuit.

We talk about everything from saving orangoutangs to the future of battery tech and what we think will win, EV's or synthetic fuels. We also reminisce over our first proper car as Mick's son, Connor, who's soon to join the channel himself, picks up his 2018 VW Golf GTi Mk7.5 (it's a peach...).

In this weeks waffle I pick up the conversation where we left off and talk more about how Chris Harris could have actually been really savvy and it might cost next to nothing to swap his GT3 for a GT4RS.

I also give my thoughts on Sam Fane from Seen Through Glass's GT3 collection. I also share my thoughts on Matt Farah's "Strawberry Shortcake" Boxster Spyder.

What does it mean when someone in his position gets a no from a Porsche dealer? What does it mean when typically he hangs on to cars for the long haul and packed it off to Collecting Cars pretty quickly?

I'd say slide over to my DM's and let me know but I say that about 47 times in the episode.

For any adults supervising children, I use a mild swear word once. I'll try to avoid it but I'm a potty mouth in real life and sometimes the odd one sneaks in...

In this, the first of the waffle episodes, I talk about mental health and how important just getting out and driving is for a petrolhead.

These 10-15 minute episodes will come out fairly frequently.

This episode we begin to dive in to what it takes to work in top tier motorsport. This is a three part series, beginning with Nathan and his journey from motorsport enthusiast to Formula 1 engineer.

At the time of recording, you'll hear Nathan talk about how he's happy with his career at Radical. In part 2 of this series we learn how an opportunity presented itself that he just couldn't say no to. Finally, in part 3 we talk to Darren, who's working in formula motorsport for many years.

Because both are incredibly busy, parts 2 and 3 are slated for shooting around Christmas when motorsport shuts down. You'll just have to keep checking back for updates!

Well after a short recess, Mick and I are back to talk about all things 992.2. But, before we do it wouldn't be a Waffle (trademark never going to be applied for) without a catch up.

With Mick recovering from some kind of lurgy, I take a little pressure of him and chat through how I feel about the interior work on the Outlaw Cayman now I've had it back a week.

This episode wraps up season 2 of the podcast and I'll be taking a short break for a holiday, before getting back to it and starting to pull together the dozen or so YouTube episodes backed up, and some of the exciting ones coming.

He's back. You didn't ask for him and you got him anyway! Mick returns to the podcast to prop me up and review everything that's going on in the world of Porsche.

We had intended on talking about the 992.2 launch, but in true Waffle (R) style, we failed miserably and ended up bantering with each other.

We did, however, work through Kalmar Porsche and the option to take ANY P-car and make it a safari. We deep dived in to F1 post 2026 and fantasised over increased noise, compressed engine builds and seeing the small constructor have a chance for once.

Senna, as you can imagine, came up. It's been 30 years since his tragic passing and both of us feel connected to him as a person and as a driver, so some homage was paid, albeit by two relatively uniformed morons.

Finally we spent a chunk of time figuring out whether all the work on the @outlawcayman was for nothing and I really do have very little taste.

It's not a serious episode, so you'll find it a joy, if you're having a dull or dreary day.

Mick will be back soon and we WILL talk about the 992.2 Porsche 911.

This week I'm joined by Duck & Whale Magazine, founder, editor and Porsche brand low key icon - Lee Dean.

Lee is a bit of an enigma. You can tell from watching the content on YouTube, that he's a deep thinker and the passion for cars, but particularly the Porsche brand, runs through him.

I had been wanting to chat to him for some time. In fact, his own 911 had been a source of inspiration for my own Porsche Cayman, particularly running the Group 4 wheels.

Thankfully we both managed to carve out some time, and only a few days ago grabbed a seat and toured through his life, from childhood 4 pot shitboxes with a single Recaro seat, to scaring the boss in a 997 GT2 near Bondi beach, all the way through to why owning a P-car is ESSENTIAL for any father.
