In this episode, we start our study of the Book of Acts. Specifically, we cover chapter 1, verses 1-11. Acts is written by Dr. Luke. It was written about 63. Acts covers a period of approximately 30 years. In Acts we see the prominence of the Holy Spirit. In verses 1-11, we are told that during the forty days after Jesus' resurrection from the dead, He appeared to the apostles from time to time, and He proved to them in many ways that He was actually alive. And He talked to them about the Kingdom of God. Also, during this time, Jesus instructed His followers to stay in Jerusalem until the promised gift of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit came on and in them. Jesus explained after the Holy Spirit came upon them, they would be His witnesses starting in Jerusalem, then throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Finally, we see in these verses; after giving His instruction to stay in Jerusalem, Jesus ascends back into heaven. While His followers are watching Jesus physically ascends into the sky, two angels appear to them, and tell them Jesus will return from heaven in the same way they saw Him go! Yes, Jesus is coming back to this Earth one day! | |||

We conclude our study of the Book of John. Specifically, we cover verses 18-25 of chapter 21. We see after Jesus restores Peter after Peter's denials of Jesus, Jesus predicts Peter will eventually be crucified because of Peter's faith in Jesus. After this prediction, Peter asks Jesus about what will happen to John, who is the writer of this book. Jesus replies to Peter that if He wanted John to live until Jesus' second return, that wouldn't change what Peter needed to do; that is, follow Jesus. John concludes his book by stating that he was an eyewitness to what he wrote in his book, and that everything he wrote is true and accurate. Finally, John says that Jesus did more miracles than what he recorded. In fact, Jesus did so much more that if they were all written down, the whole world could not contain the books that would be written. | |||

In this episode, we start chapter 18 of the Book of John. Jesus and His disciples are just outside of Jerusalem at the Mount of Olives for Passover. Under the cover of darkness, Judas leads Roman soldiers and temple guards to where Jesus was to arrest Him. Judas knew where Jesus was because he and the other disciples had been there with Jesus during prior Passovers. Jesus asks them who they were looking for. They say Jesus. Jesus replies, "I AM he." In a demonstration of His power, the men fell back and down when Jesus said, "I AM he," which was a declaration of Him being God. It also shows that Jesus' arrest was due to Him cooperating (because He had the power to stop it) to fulfill what God the Father sent Him to do; that is, to die for mankind's sin. Jesus is arrested and taken to one of the Jewish High Priest's homes for a mock trial, which we will cover in the next episode. We learn that John, the author of this book, and Peter fellow Jesus to the High Priest's home. The gatekeeper to the home, a woman, asks Peter if he was a disciple of Jesus. Peter denies he was Jesus' disciple. The first of the three denials Jesus predicted in John 13:31-38 that Peter would commit. | |||

In this episode, we finish chapter 17. In verses 16-26, Jesus turns from praying for those disciples who were with Him and prays for all who will ever believe in Him. He prays that all believers will be in Him as He is in the Father. Jesus prays that all believers be in perfect unity that the world will know Jesus. He prays that they will have salvation through what He did at the cross. Jesus prays that they have eternal life. He prays that believers know God because they know Him. In this episode, we finish chapter 16 from the Book of John and start chapter 17. Jesus is still talking with His disciples about the horrible things that are about to take place in a matter of hours. So, Jesus prays for Himself and His disciples. Jesus asks God the Father to give Him glory for completing His earthly mission of dying for man's sin. He also prays for His disciple's protection. Jesus acknowledges that He guarded them while He was physically on the earth and didn't lose any of the 12 disciples, except one- Judas-who the Scriptures prophesied would betray Him. Jesus acknowledges that He gave them God's Word. He again announces that the world will hate them because they are of Him and not of this world. Jesus prays however that they aren't taken out of the world, but are kept safe from the evil one-Satan. In this episode, we look at verses 12-27 out of chapter 16 from the Book of John. Jesus continues to teach about the Holy Spirit after warning His disciples not to abandon the faith after He is crucified, and after they are persecuted because of Him. Jesus tells them when the Spirit of truth (the Holy Spirit) comes, the Holy Spirit will guide them into all truth. Jesus tells them the Holy Spirit will glorify Him. | |||

In this episode, we start chapter 16 of the Book of John; specifically, verses 1-11. Jesus is hours away from being arrested, beaten, and crucified for mankind's sins. He is still talking to His disciples about these things that are about to happened. In this chapter, Jesus tells them He has told them these things to warn them not to abandon their faith when these events happened. He warns them that they will be put out the synagogues (what we would call the church today) and they will even be killed. And those who kill them will think that they are doing a service to God. Jesus explains their persecutors will be persecuting and killing them because they don't know God. Jesus explains that after He goes away (that is return to Heaven), the Holy Spirit will come to convict the world of sin, of God's righteousness, and of judgment. | |||

In this episode, we finish our study of chapter 15 of the Book of John; specifically, verses 18-27. Jesus is still reassuring His disciples after predicting His betrayal by One of His own and His death. He tells them that the since the world hates Him, the world will also hate His followers. Jesus also tells them that the world loves its own, but Jesus calls His followers out of the world and its ways and beliefs. Jesus concludes by telling His disciples (and also His present-day believers) that the Holy Spirit, who will come after His death and resurrection, will teach them and the world about Jesus. | |||

In this episode, we start our study of chapter 15 of the Book of John out of the New Testament of the Bible. We look at verses 1-17. Jesus uses the analogy of vines and branches to teach that He is the vine and the branches (that is believers) connected to Him bear fruit. However, those branches not connected to Him (non-believers) will be thrown away and burned up. Jesus also tells His disciples that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends, which Jesus will do. Then He says that they are His friends if they do what He commands. Jesus gives them one of His commands: "Love each other." | |||

In this episode, we finish ch. 14 of the Book of John. Jesus and His disciples are still at what would be Jesus' last Passover meal. Jesus has predicted His impending death so now He wants to comfort and reassure His disciples that His death is not the end of the story. He tells them that they will see Him again after His death. Jesus also tells them that after His death, He will send them the Holy Spirit who will live in them and who will teach them about the things that Jesus has been telling them. Jesus tells them that despite all that will occur, He is also leaving them with the gift of peace that this world cannot give. Finally, Jesus reassures them that Satan has no power over Him! In this episode, we cover John 14:7-17. Jesus is still talking with His disciples at His last Passover meal before He lays down His sinless life for sinful mankind. His disciples ask to see God and Jesus tells them that they have already seen God because they have seen Him because God the Father is in Him and He is in God the Father. Jesus tells His disciples that they will do greater works than Him, meaning through them, the Good News of salvation through Jesus will reach the whole world, not just around Israel. Jesus also tells them that whatever they ask for in His name that is in His will, He will do so that God the Father will receive glory. He tells the crowd that is around Him that to see Him is to see God the Father who sent Him. Thus, He is stating that He is God in the flesh. Jesus tells the crowd He did not come to judge the world at this time, but to save it by offering His Godly life for the sins of the world. In this episode, we start our look at chapter 12, verses 1-19 of the Book of John. We see Mary anoints Jesus' feet with expensive perfume. We finish chapter 10 of the Book of John. It's a few months later after Jesus's encounter with the religious leaders after He healed the man born blind. Jesus is back in Jerusalem during the Feast of Dedication. While Jesus is at the Jewish Temple, some of the religious leaders surround Him. They have stones ready to stone Jesus. They dare Jesus to say He is the Messiah so they can stone Him to death. Jesus tells them He has already told them that He is the Messiah, and Jesus goes a step further and tells them He gives eternal life to His believers. He also tells the religious leaders that He and God the Father are One. | |||

In this episode, we continue our study of chapter 10 of the Book of John; specifically, verses 12-21. Jesus is still using the analogy of the shepherd and the sheep to explain to the Pharisees, and those listening, that He is the Good Shepherd. Jesus tells them that unlike the Good Shepherd, a hired hand (the religious leaders) will look after the sheep as long as he is getting some benefits and is not in danger. But He, as the Good Shepherd, will lay down his life for His sheep. Jesus also tells them that there are other sheep (the Gentiles) that are not of that sheep pen (the Jews) that He will save too. In other words, Jesus is telling them that He came to die for both Jews and Gentiles. | |||

In this episode, we start chapter 10 of the Book of John. Jesus is still talking with the Pharisees after healing the man born blind. In this episode, we finish chapter 20 of the Book of John. Jesus has been resurrected from the dead. Meanwhile, His disciples are in a locked room hiding from the Jewish leaders because they fear the Jewish leaders will execute them as well. Then, Jesus just appears to them. Jesus tells them that He will be sending them out to preach the gossip of His life, death and resurrection. Jesus breathed on them and said, "'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" This represents that what Jesus did on the cross now makes it possible for them and all believers to receive or to be baptized with the Holy Spirit--though the full indwelling of the Spirit will not happen until Pentecost (Acts 2:1–4). Jesus tells them that those who accept Him will have their sins forgiven. Finally, John tells us why he wrote his book; that is, to focus on Jesus as the Messiah and God, and so those who read it will accept Jesus as Savior. | |||

We conclude chapter 9 of the Book of John. We are still in the story of the man who was born blind that Jesus gave sight to. Because the formerly blind man would not lie about who healed him and because he exposed the Pharisees' hypocrisy, they excommunicated him from the Jewish Synagogue. Jesus hears about this and reveals to the man that He is the Messiah. The man believed Jesus and worshiped Jesus. | |||

In this episode, we start chapter nine of the Book of John. Jesus gives a man who was blind from birth his sight. As usual, the Pharisees are upset because Jesus heals a man on the Sabbath. Can you image that: being upset with someone for healing someone. Then they try to intimidate the healed man and his family to get him to change his story about who healed him. But the healed man wouldn't change his story. Why? Because as he declared, "'Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!'" | |||

In this episode, we finish chapter 8 of the Book of John. We look at verses 46-59. Jesus is still in the Temple's court area responding to the Pharisees' challenge to who He is and His authority. When Jesus challenges the Pharisees to point to any sin He has committed and they can't, because Jesus is sinless, so they start to insult Jesus. They called Him a "Samaritan" which was the lowest of insults because the Jews despised them as corrupt, half-breeds. They also called Jesus demon possessed. In turn, Jesus continued to tell the truth of if they would obey Him they would never die. Ultimately, Jesus reveals to them and everyone listening that He is God by identifying as "I AM." All the Jews knew Jesus was saying He was God by saying He was "I AM." As a result , they tried to stone Him. | |||

In this episode, we continue our study of John, chapter 8; specifically, verses 33-45. Jesus is still in the Temple's court area responding to the Pharisees' challenge to who He is and His authority. In response to Jesus' explanation that the Truth shall set them free, the Pharisees don't understand His meaning, thus, they claim not to be enslaved but are instead "sons" of Abraham. Jesus tells them that they are not "sons" of Abraham spiritually because they didn't obey God like Abraham did. In this episode, we look at John 7:14-26. Jesus goes to the Feast of Tabernacle or Booths. While there He teaches in the Jewish Temple. As usual, the people are amazed at His wisdom and knowledge--despite not going to a religious school. Jesus knowing their thoughts tells them that His knowledge comes from God the Father who sent Him to the Earth. Jesus also discloses to the crowd the Jewish leaders' plot to kill Him because He violated one of their man-made laws by healing a man on the Sabbath. | |||

In this episode, we look at the resurrection of Jesus from the dead as we start chapter 20 out of the Book of John. Jesus died for the sins of mankind; He was buried; and early on Sunday morning Jesus rose from the dead. Mary Magdalene discovered that Jesus' tomb was empty first. She told Peter and John. Peter and John go to the tomb to find it empty, with only Jesus' burial linen and head cloth still there. They go home, however. Mary returns to the empty tomb to find two angels there. But as she is turning to leave, she sees the living Jesus but doesn't recognize Him. She believes He is the gardener who might have taken Jesus' body away. It is only after Jesus says her name does she realize that it is Jesus. Jesus tells her to go tell the other disciples that He is alive. She does, but the disciples don't believe her. Later that day, the disciples are in a locked room hiding from the Jewish leaders as they are in fear of them. Then Jesus just appears in the room. He shows them the nail holes in His hands from the crucifixion, and the wound from when the Roman soldiers pierced His side when He was on the cross. Afterwards, the disciples were filled with joy because they now know and believe that Jesus did come back from the dead. Amen! | |||

In this episode, we continue our study of the Word of God in John, chapter 6. Specifically, verses 46-58 where Jesus tells the crowd who has been following Him that He is the bread of life. He tells them that those who eat of His flesh and drink of His blood will have everlasting life. The crowd not knowing Jesus is symbolically referring to His eventual death on the cross for sin and resurrection thinks He is literally speaking about eating His flesh and drinking His blood, in other words, cannibalism. However, Jesus is trying to tell them that just like God the Father sent manna in the wilderness to sustain their ancestors' physical body, He has now sent His Son, Jesus, as the spiritual bread that will save and sustain their souls forever for those who believe that He died for their sins. | |||

In this episode, we finish our study of chapter 19 out of the Book of John; specifically, verses 31-42. We pick up where we left off in our last episode. In the last episode, Jesus said, "It is finished!" as He was dying on the cross. Then Jesus bowed His head and freely gave up His spirit. Jesus died for our sins. So, in this episode we look at Jesus' burial. After His death, Jesus' body was given to a secret disciple, Joseph of Arimathea. He, along with another secret disciple Nicodemus, prepared Jesus' body for burial by wrapping it in 75 pounds of perfumed ointment made from myrrh and aloes. They placed Jesus' body in a stone tomb that had never been used before. But as we will see in the next episode, Jesus will not remain in the tomb because Jesus will be resurrected from the dead! | |||
