Scott's fiancé Cally was high risk pregnancy. On the 10th of March 2023, their baby Peyton was Born, 6 weeks premature via C-section, weighing 1.68kg. The next day Cally started to get severe pains in stomach and was taken for CT scan. On the Tuesday Cally was taken into surgery where they found a blood clot had blocked blood flow to a number of her organs including intestines bowel and spleen. That night Scott was told by surgeons after her surgery that the chance of her survival was zero to none, a lot of her organs had started to die. Joann's late husband Richard had an aortic aneurysm rupture and barely made it through surgery. She spent weeks in ICU with him, and he finally got better and went to physical rehab for 3 weeks. The day after he got home, he had a stroke. Back to the hospital they went. This happened more than once, he would come home and go right back in. After almost 3 months in and out of the hospital, the doctors finally discovered he had stage 4 lung cancer that was causing all the blood clots. He was placed on hospice and only lived 3 days after that. It all happened extremely fast. He died within 4 months of the first aortic emergency surgery. Ash was kept from her Father her whole life and wasn't given the truth of who he was until it was found out he had a terminal illness. He had kidney failure and was on daily dialysis with only a few months left to live when they met for the first time. The relationship was hard because she was trying to get to know her Dad knowing full well it might only be for a short time. Several months into their relationship he got the news that he was able to get a kidney transplant. Ash thought she'd get the relationship with her Father she was denied. And then he started getting sick again. Ash took him into palliative care and three days later he ended up passing away from liver cancer, he was 59 years old. Ash was his only known family member so his whole end of life care was left up to her. They only had 4 years together. Gina comes onto the podcast to remember her Dad and reflect on their relationship. Her parents divorced when she was about 10 years old. Gina was very much in the middle of her parents divorce. It led to a tumultuous 10 or so years with her Father and they ultimately did not speak from age 22 to 33 for Gina. He missed major milestones in her life including her wedding. At 33 after distancing herself from her Mother- Gina reconnected with my father. She found that she was very much like him. Gina's Dad Ricky had a history of high blood pressure and severe cardiovascular disease. 7 years later he had a major stroke that ultimately sent him into rapid decline early to late stage Alzheimer’s and severe cardiovascular disease. He was dead in 15 months. Gina discusses how she is grateful not only for the time she had with him but that his death resulted in her changing her life. Pawnee is one of 8 children and remembers having a very different Dad in terms of his health and energy compared to how her older siblings may have remembered him as kids. Pawnee remembers her Dad as loving everybody and made people feel included and loved. He had a way of being able to be honest with people, even if it was hard, because he had first built a relationship where they felt how much he cared, so they listened to him. Danni's Mum was diagnosed with a rare gynaecological cancer in 2010 after being significantly let down by the medical system. After a 2 year cancer ordeal, surgery, chemo, radiation, she died in January, 2012. She was 54 years old. In her early 20s Danni found herself feeling extremely isolated and turned to a relatively unused platform in Facebook where she was very descriptive in the type of person she was wanting to connect with. As fate would have it, Danni connected and then met in real life with her now best friend and business partner Eloise and together they created Motherless Daughter Australia. MDA is a not for profit organization for women seeking support from other women who have lost their Mothers. Danni remembers the impact her Mum had on her as a woman and as a role model resulting in how she lives her life today for and in honour of her Mum. Annya's Dad developed vascular dementia in his late 70's and within a few years had forgotten how to walk. After spending 6 months in various hospital beds he was referred to a care home with a special dementia wing. For quite a long time (even before his dementia) he had problems with an ulcer on his foot that struggled to heal. This got worse in the care home and he developed gangrene. There was nothing that could be done in the end to help him by the hospital, which is when they told the family he only had 2 or 3 weeks left to live. Amy's Mom was a smoker, she had lost her husband to heart failure, and her father to Cancer. She had Emphysema and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). On New Years Day in 2016 she was diagnosed with lung cancer, but her lungs were too weak to endure a biopsy to find out how far along. Sue passed away just 15 days later at the age of 64 with Amy, her sister, and Aunt beside her. Amy discusses their shared love for music, cooking, and gardening. Allison's Papa was 84 when he passed away in December of 2018. He was deaf since the age of 8 due to illness but other than that always strong and healthy until the last few years of his life. Many months before he was severely ill, Allison woke up and told her Mom he wasn't going to make it to Christmas that year. December 1st was the day she got a call from her Mom to come home and it was the start of his decline. Allison's Grandpa Wally was 89 when he passed in April of 2019. He suffered from colon cancer that thankfully was removed, a heart attack, and Parkinson's disease for as long as she can remember. Allison discusses the guilt she felt for not processing her Grandpa's grief as she was still processing the death of per Papa only months earlier.
