Renée Bever: Fatness and Mourning

Renée Bever is a black, queer and fat abstract artist living in Los Angeles. Originally from the midwest, Renee moved to LA shortly after completing grad school in Boston. Renee cohosts a podcast for Blumhouse called Attack of the Queerwolf where she and her cohosts analyze horror movies through a queer lens. She is currently working on a set of ten large abstract landscapes to premier at a solo show this July.

Clarity Haynes: Censorship & The Lesbian Gaze

Clarity Haynes is a New York-based painter whose work explores the torso as a site for portraiture, revealing themes of healing, trauma and self-determination. Her work can be seen in “The Outwin: American Portraiture Today”,  a traveling exhibition originating at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. Clarity’s work has been exhibited at Invisible-Exports Gallery and The Leslie Lohman Museum of Lesbian and Gay Art, among others. She is the co-host of Magic Praxis, a studio art talks podcast.

Shawné Michaelain Holloway: Representing Power & Submission

Shawné Michaelain Holloway is a new media artist using sound, video, and performance to shape the rhetorics of technology and sexuality into tools for exposing structures of power. She has spoken and exhibited work internationally in spaces like The New Museum (NYC, NY), Sorbus Galleria (Helsinki, Fi), The Kitchen (NYC, NY) Institute of Contemporary Arts (London, UK), Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (Chicago, IL). Currently, Holloway teaches in the New Arts Journalism department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Macy Rodman: Horror at the Club

Macy Rodman is a Brooklyn-based experimental singer-songwriter. Her 2016 EP Help, explored the idea of the trans girl as a pop star. Her debut album  The Lake was released in 2017. Macy is perhaps best known for her music videos, which have been described by Vogue as “vibrant and campy.”

Rindon Johnson: Queer Intimacy & Parenthood

Rindon Johnson is a multidisciplinary artist and writer. His sculptures, videos and performances have been shared at Human Resources, Los Angeles; MoMA PS1; Artists Space and National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne - among others. Rindon is the author of "Nobody Sleeps Better Than White People" from Inpatient Press, the virtual reality book, "Meet in the Corner" from Publishing-House.Me and "Shade the King" from Capricious.

On this episode, Annie and Rindon discuss his recent sculptural and VR work, representing the discomfort in intimacy, and being a queer parent.

Lindsay Dye: Reclaiming Joy in Sex Work

Lindsay Dye is a 29 year old artist of Puerto Rican descent from Weston, Florida. She holds an MFA in Photography and Sculpture from the Pratt Institute.She is most known on social media for her Cake Sitting Performances, which are sugary, colorful displays of sexuality and humor. Recently, a profile of her career as sex worker artist appeared in Playboy.

RAFiA Santana: Radical Reparations

RAFiA Santana is a multimedia artist from Brooklyn, New York working in primarily photography, video, and music. They frequently work with their own image, using a combination of selfies and original graphics to discuss black queer femme identity. Their work has been exhibited internationally at Housing Gallery in Brooklyn, The Museum of Moving Image, The Newspace Center for Photography, Carnegie Mellon University, Tate Britain, The Museum of Contemporary Art Montreal, and Shiraz Art House in Iran, to name a few. RAFiA has appeared as a featured artist in such publications as Teen Vogue, Topical Cream, The Huffington Post, and Rhizome.

Emma Sulkowicz: Surviving Rape Culture

Emma Sulkowicz is an American artist of Japanese-Chinese-Jewish descent who lives and makes art in their hometown, New York City. They earned a BFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in 2015 and studied studio art in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. They are perhaps best known for their senior thesis at Columbia University — "Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight)" —an endurance performance artwork in which they carried a dorm mattress everywhere on Columbia's campus for as long as they attended the same school as their attacker.

Pacifico Silano: Rediscovering Queer History

Pacifico Silano is a lens-based artist whose work is an exploration of print culture and the circulation of imagery. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he received his MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts.  Reviews of his work have appeared in The New Yorker, Artforum, Newsweek and The New York Times. He is a 2016 fellow in Photography with the New York Foundation for the Arts. A selection of his work will be included in the exhibition “Fantasy America” at The Warhol Museum in the Fall of 2020. 

On this episode, Annie and Pacifico discuss rediscovering queer history in the aftermath of the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.
