Kirkwall runs on rumors, and our buddy Varric is the sieve through which they filter down into actionable information. According to Varric, a chantry sister is roaming low town at night looking for help with a special task. The sister in question, Sister Petrice, can be found making a poor decision to follow some unsavory characters into an alleyway. After Hawke’s intervention, Petrice offers us a job that is suited for someone who can move about the dark places of Kirkwall freely. Once we visit her safe house, we learn that she is in possession of a qunari mage, a saarebas, who was separated from his handler and Petrice wishes for us to bring him to freedom–whether he wants it or not. After a skirmish in Lowtown where Saarebas shows his teeth, Hawke emerges above ground to find a nasty surprise waiting for them. While your hosts are strong advocates for mage rights, it’s hard to ignore a woman worried about her brother–especially if she’s destitute without him. Macha informs us that her brother, a templar recruit has gone missing and Knight Commander Meredith is keeping the situation hushed up. A visit to the Gallows reveals that Keran isn’t the only missing recruit–but one of them has returned, only to be followed out to the Wounded Coast by Knight Captain Cullen. Cullen exposes the recruit and then hands over the investigation to us since we can move freely throughout the city of Kirkwall. Remember our pal Javaris? He offered us money if we went out of our way to kill some Tal Vashoth, qunari who abandoned the qun to kill for their own glory. According to him, if we, including our guest Troytlepower, kill the Tal Vashoth, the Arishok who leads the qunari who have been stranded in Kirkwall will share the ultra sacred super secret formula to create gatlock powder, an explosive material that only the Qunari know how to make. Whether we agree or not, we do need to make 50 gold to buy into an expedition and advance the plot, so… I’m sure the Arishok will give Javaris what he wants. Right? There’s a bounty out to find the missing son of Kirkwall’s viscount. What a better way to earn some gold and rise in the estimation of the nobility Hawke should have been part of? Too bad Hawke isn’t first to the party. The Winters already have a lead, but they don’t seem the type of people to talk things out. With the blessing of the Seneschal, Hawke can intervene and try to bring Saemus home safely. Upon arrival, it’s too late to prevent the murder of the Qunari blamed for Saemus’s disappearance, but it’s not too late to protect Seamus from the people who killed his friend. This is Reignite, Kirkwall’s only true crime podcast. Today we bring you the first part of a gruesome string of murders spanning over 3 years. There are many people for us to speak to while we wander around Hightown, one of which is a magistrate who has a mission for us. He has heard that we are able to get things done on the sly and wants us to battle our way through ancient ruins to collect an escaped convict and bring him back for justice, the ancient ruins are filled with beasts that normal guards are not equipped to handle, but who cares if we throw our lives away right once we arrive at the ruins we learn that there is more to this convict than we were initially told, because of course there is this convict has a history of abducting and murdering elvin children, and nothing has been done about it. An elf whose daughter was most recently abducted and presumed dead requests that we put the murderer down instead of bringing him back alive as ordered. We have a complete party and a mission– earn 50 big ones so Bartrand will let us tag along on his expedition. Our first cash grab is to help out Hubert, a salesman based in High Town. He owns a mine ominously named “The Bone Pit” where something mysterious has disrupted production. Miners aren’t reporting in and no one will check it out because of the mine’s spooky history. In walks Hawke who ain’t afraid of no bone pit. Can we solve the mystery in the mine? Now that we’re fresh out of indentured servitude, maybe it’s time we keep our promise to the scary lady who rescued us from darkspawn. Off to Sundermount we go to present Marethari with an amulet. The Dalish are, understandably, wary of our approach, but we are expected so we get something of a free pass to at least keep breathing until they decide otherwise. Marethari asks Hawke and co to bring the amulet to the top of the mountain, let her apprentice do some magic over it, then bring it back. Once that’s done then we’re done! Oh but also can we adopt Merrill?  Special thanks to Redd Spinks for our amazing logo as well as to Miracle of Sound for the song Age Of The Dragon, which we use as our theme music.

With this week's guest Andrew McMahon in tow we head back to the Hanged Man where we see a beautiful lady beat the shit out of a bunch of gross men. Of COURSE we want to talk to her. She immediately decides we can help her by having her back on a duel. When we go to support her, we learn that her opponent plays dirty (shocking) and is waiting to hear news of her death in the Chantry. We fight our way through more raiders and discover that our new stabby friend has a lot more going on than we thought. With Aveline in our party our next stop is to visit Sundermount to clear up that ambush. Once all of the well equipped bandits are dead, it’s a job well done! Right? Apparently not in Captain Jeven’s eyes–instead he accuses Aveline of showboating and threatens to throw both Aveline and Hawke in jail if they disobey orders again. Aveline refuses to let it end there, so with some investigating she learns that the ambush was meant for the lone patrol of Brennan, a guard who was carrying pay and orders from one location to another. She has passed this off to Donnic who is now in the same danger Brennan was. Hawke and Aveline must rescue Donnic and discover what Captain Jeven has been hiding. Remember those nobles? We can’t put them off any longer. They want to know what we plan on doing about the Darkspawn. We’re sent off to Amaranthine only to learn that the city guard considers Amaranthine to be a lost cause and The Mother is marching on the keep. Here is our big choice–do we stay and search for survivors or do we return to our keep to defend it? No matter what we decide, we then must take the fight to The Mother. The Architect asks us to stand with him against her and to allow him to continue his experiments to give Darkspawn free will. Another ethically sticky situation. With or without the Architect, the Mother must be taken out. At Knotwood Hills, we find the Darkspawn trying to drag away a member of the Legion of the Dead– Sigrun did not consent. With the Warden’s help, Sigrun returns to Kal’Hirol, the site of some serious darkspawn activity that obliterated her faction of the Legion, leaving only her behind. Here we finally see both sides of the Darkspawn schism push against each other–hurlock against hurlock, genlock against genlock. After winding our way through Kal’Hirol, we find that the Broodmothers are at it again and only we can stop them. The Warden enters the Wending Wood to investigate the caravan attacks and finds wreckage being picked over by looters. After running around the wood, fighting darkspawn, sylvans, arguing with a botanist, talking statues, and doing some research–it becomes clear that not everything is as simple as it appears. We encounter an elf hellbent on defending the woods as the home of her brutalized and murdered clan of Dalish as well as human mercenaries ripped apart–all a ruse put together by the darkspawn. Velenna relents with the evidence we present her, her sister’s amulet found on the body of a darkspawn. She joins us with the intention of rescuing her sister or at least resolving what happened to her and we are pushed further along the narrative of this war between darkspawn. A mysterious being puts the squad to sleep and they wake again in captivity. Velenna’s sister, disconcertingly presenting as someone tainted by darkspawn, arrives to help us escape. We fight through only to watch Seranni escape with the mysterious darkspawn leader. Velenna asks the warden to allow her into the Grey Wardens so that she may rescue her sister.Special thanks to Redd Spinks for our new amazing logo as well as to Radek Wade and Echoes of Oblivion for the song World of Thedas, which we use as our theme music

We take our first step out of Amaranthine toward Blackmarsh, where Grey Warden Kristoff is rumored to have disappeared. Blackmarsh is shrouded in mystery and fear–rumors of hauntings and monsters become reality as the warden moves through the marsh. Unfortunately, it’s too late to rescue Kristoff. He was killed as a ploy by darkspawn to draw the Warden in and trap them in the fade. In order to escape, they must face the Baroness who long ago trapped an entire village in the fade to punish them for turning against her. With the help of a righteous spirit, they succeed–only to be dropped back into reality along with that spirit and the possessed baroness. Once we destroy her and her pride for good, the villagers can finally be free from their fade prison. Our new friend is not so lucky. He is trapped with us on the wrong side of the veil and needs guidance to figure out his next steps. We have finally moved on to Awakening. Whether you’re importing a surviving Hero of Ferelden or starting fresh with a new warden, we enter the scene as the Warden Commander for Amaranthine, holdings granted to the Wardens as a result of their role in ending the Blight in Denerim. As always, the first day of the job goes to hell as we discover a sneak attack launched on the keep by darkspawn. They’re organized, they’re determined…and one of them can talk. With the help of Mhairi, we fight our way through the village to the keep where we rescue civilians, recruit a new mage and a familiar face, and face off with the mysterious talking darkspawn. Success leads to new grey wardens, but unfortunately, not everyone makes it through the joining. Before Leliana was a sister at the Chantry, she was a bard in Orlais, working for Marjolaine. This DLC is a glimpse into the moment that changed the course of Leliana’s life. With her friends Sketch and Tug, Leliana sets about to create chaos in Ferelden at Marjolaine’s request. What starts as a night of rowdy mischief-making in the name of Orlais turns serious when Leliana realizes one of Marjolaine’s tasks can result in treason and possibly death for all of them. Before we can take on the horde, Riordan has some important information for our wardens. Apparently the reason Grey Wardens are the only ones who can end a blight is because their darkspawn blood will draw the soul of the archdemon into the Warden’s body, destroying them both. Fun! Ultimately, one of our Wardens must die, it seems– except our swamp bestie Morrigan has a solution. Get the lady preggers and we all walk away free and clear. What to do, what to do? No matter what, we take to the streets of Denerim to quell the horde and fight our way to Fort Drakon for our final stand against the Archdemon. How will our stories end? Special thanks to Redd Spinks for our new amazing logo as well as to Radek Wade and Echoes of Oblivion for the song World of Thedas, which we use as our theme music.

When we arrive at Lake Calenhad, of course there is something wrong in the tower. Turns out blood mages have done some bad shit and there are now demons everywhere and the Templars are too scared to do their jobs. Greg wants to call for the right of Annulment which would kill EVERYONE including innocent mages and children. The warden decides to go through and find First Enchanter Irving and bring him back. Fuck the circle, fuck the templars, fuck the chantry, fuck this entire fucking building! After a HEATED discussion, we agreed that we would first go to Redcliffe and Arl Eamon. So much happens that to summarize it all would be a podcast in itself so here are the highlights: Alistair’s father was King Maric, a mysterious evil plagues the village from the castle, Arl Eamon’s son, Connor, is a mage and summoned a demon and so much more! Next stop, Lothering! When we leave Flemeth’s hut with 10% of a plan, we’re fairly certain it’s two inexperienced Grey Wardens and a grumpy witch against the blight, but with one stop we double our party with a good boy, a formerly cloistered sister of the chantry, and a Qunari murderer. All the makings of a family! We also learn that Loghain is talking shit about the Wardens and that Arl Eamon is fatally ill. Now that we’ve met the king and Duncan has more or less left us to our own devices, it’s time to explore Ostagar and get up to some shenanigans. We meet some other recruits as well as the newest Warden, Alistair. We journey to the Wilds, meet some witches, attend a war meeting, get voluntold to handle lighting a beacon, and discover a GREAT BETRAYAL. Also we almost die but it’s fine.
