| Choosing to thrive with Tyler Dorsey | 12 Sep 2022 | 00:53:52 | |
Tyler Dorsey was ahead of the curve. As a fifth grader, the 90s baby was diagnosed with ADHD -- well before the majority of girls who wouldn't be diagnosed well into adulthood. By the time she made it to college, she knew how ADHD was showing up in her life and with a non-negoitable pushing her ahead, her spot on the volleyball team, she put her own boundaries into place and started to see herself thriving. As the founder of Focus Forward, Tyler helps people of all ages change the mindset on how they view and manage their ADHD. And what started as a get-to-know-you conversation ahead of Tyler's first webinar on September 21st quickly turned into Tyler introducing Lindsay to the power of a good, old-fashioned mindset shift in embracing the thrive and retiring the survive. | ADHD, transitions and back to school | 06 Sep 2022 | 00:50:57
Back to school, back to school, to prove to my ADHD brain (and all the doubters) that I'm not a fool! It can be tough for the ADHD brain to get through transitions, regardless of the size or importance. So how does this struggle affect students heading back to school? Sure, it's something we do an awful lot growing up. But does it ever get easier? Not without putting in some work. Christina Kantzavelos is a licensed psychotherapist and writer based in southern California, whose work focuses on treating and advocating for those with chronic illnesses -- like lyme disease -- and physcial, development and age-related disabilities. She also has ADHD and shared insights and workarounds from both her time working as a psychotherapist and her own experience growing up attending a school system that didn't work for her and what happened after she looked outside traditonal school (spoiler alert: she thrived). | ADHD and transitions: Why are they such a struggle? | 29 Aug 2022 | 00:35:43
Transitions can be tough for everyone. But for people with ADHD, it is something that can completely throw everything into chaos. And it doesn't matter the size or magnitude. It can be an everyday issue for people with ADHD. So what is it about ADHD and the trouble with transitioning? Where does that struggle come from? And how do we address it? Dr. Gayle Jensen Savoie is the Division Chief for Psychology and Teletherapy for ADHD Online and has been working and has been more than 30 years of experience working with adolescents with ADHD. She joined Lindsay to explain the basics of why transitions are a struggle for people with ADHD and explained how the world around us and those changes have increased the impact of issues with transitions. | The Power of the Pivot | 16 Aug 2022 | 00:58:05
It was Sunday evening. Monday's podcast wasn't done and Lindsay had a choice to make. Pull another all-nighter to get it done or be honest about the struggles she's been facing since launching Refocused with Lindsay Guentzel back in May. Maybe it was because she was tired. Maybe it was because she knew she couldn't keep up the routine she had unintentionally developed. Maybe it was because she was actually comfortable asking for help. Yay, growth!!! Whatever the reason, Lindsay woke up Monday and was honest with everyone -- the latest episode of her podcast wasn't done. No cockamamie excuse, no lies. Just ownership and a plan to make sure it doesn't happen again. And then she decided to pivot. She owed those waiting an epsiode so she decided to record it live. With an audience (sort of, it was virtual but the pressure was there). And the episode she created on the fly -- with the help of Keith Boswell -- is without a doubt better than anything she could have stressed about in the wee hours of the morning earlier that day. Topics include: breaking the history of little white lies, the power of deadlines, hyperfocusing on the wrong thing and the trouble with ADHD and friendships. | Managing your ADHD without medication | 01 Aug 2022 | 01:10:02
There is no cure or prevention for ADHD. There's also no one right way to treat it. For many people with ADHD, medication can help manage symptoms. But it isn't the only answer. Journalist and mental health advocate Lindsay Guentzel dives into the topic with Dr. Gregory Harms, a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in diagnosing ADHD both with ADHD Online and through his private practice in Chicago. In this episode, they discuss how therapy, coaching, mindfulness and meditation, technology, physical exercise and movement can be used to effectively treat ADHD and the symptoms often presented with the disorder. | Off Script with Andrea Wallace | 06 Jul 2022 | 00:51:40
Off Script is exactly what it sounds like. No notes, no pre-planned questions. Just a conversation about ADHD with someone who knows it well. Host Lindsay Guentzel chatted with entrepreneur Andrea Wallace on Wednesday, June 29th at Start Garden in downtown Grand Rapids. Their conversation has been lightly edited for sound quality. Note from Lindsay: Last week, I traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to work with the team at ADHD Online in-person for the first. During my time in Michigan, I met Andrea Wallace and within five minutes of hitting record on my computer knew I needed to share this conversation with you all sooner rather than later.
