In this episode we sit with Adam Piron, the new Sundance Kid who is the Director of Sundance Institute's Indigenous Program. We chat films, what's happening with Sundance, and all kinds of cool stuff.

This interview was recorded before Sacheen Littlefeather had walked on, and so it may be old news what we discussed, but we left it in since we do want to remember what she did.

Rest in Power.

Kimberly plays the Mom and Karissa is the creator and showrunner of the series. And we have a good time talking about "Spirit Rangers", animation and the love of kids shows.

Don't forget to watch "Spirit Rangers" on Netflix, which should be dropped by now. Then you can leave it on repeat for the kiddos, because all children need a good Indigenous babysitter -- and "Spirit Rangers" is one of the best.

Reservation Dogs, Season 2: Episodes 5. "Wide Net" and 6. "Decolonativization"04 Oct 202201:10:24

All right all you young elders out there. In this episodes, we talk about episodes 5 and 6 of "Reservation Dogs" Season 2 -- two of our favorite episodes. It brings back memories of those conferences we attended (but no one admits to how many lanyards and badges they've acquired). We also talk about how when Amber Midthunder's not out kicking space monster ass, she's inspiring Native youth with the power of NARDS.

Also, maybe why we love these episodes more than the others is that we got Warren Queton in not one but both these episodes.

FYI, the audio is a bit more wonky than normal, so please forgive us.

The music you're enjoying in this episode is:

"Biggest Mistake" by Kat Lock from her "You Again" EP.

Now get out there and reclaim and decolonize.

And remember, don't just keep it real...

Keep it REEL INDIGENOUS!

Reservation Dogs, season 2: "Roofing" and "Mabel"27 Sep 202200:56:03

This time we're talking about episodes 3 and 4 of season two of reservations dogs. We give praise to the creators and storytellers who really know how to tell a good yarn and just chat it up about how good it is. We also confuse Eddie and Michael Spears, so our apologies to these fine actors. Also, Director Danis Goulet is Metis. We apologize for the confusion.

Jason makes a cameo appearance to give us a synopsis run down until he has to leave for a better class of people. But, rest assured, he will be back.

The music for this episode is:

"I'd Rather Go Blind" by Kat Lock, from the album: "You Again"

Thanks for listening.

Remember, don't just be real, be REEL INDIGENOUS!

PREY 2: Electric boogaloo (with a little "MOHAWK" talk on the side)20 Sep 202201:15:20

No, they did not already make a sequel to "PREY", but we made a sequel to our "PREY" discussion. Jason & Sunrise, our resident Numunu, hop on to give us some deep cuts on the Comanche happenings in "PREY". Plus, Sunrise gives us some insight on what he did on the movie.

Then, Angela brings up a little gem of a movie called, 'MOHAWK" and asks the question, is "PREY" just a ripoff of "MOHAWK"? The quick answer: No. But it is a discussion that happened.

Anyways, sit back, relax, get some of that Predator Indian Taco and give us a listen.

Music is:

"Art" by Kat Lock. From her album, "You Again"

Enjoy and thanks for listening.

Reservation Dogs Season 2, Episodes 1-2 (with a little "Jaws", "E.T." And food talk thrown in)13 Sep 202200:53:18

In this episode, we get back to our roots and talk about "Reservation Dogs" season 2, episodes 1 & 2. We also go off topic and chat a bit about the problems with the Sonics regime change, how much we love taco mayo and Braums. No one mentions Mazzio’s but we also love Mazzio’s. We also talk about the "Jaws" and "E.T." re-release, and ask the immortal question: how does pan and scan work for IMAX films?

"Reservation Dogs" may not have jumped the shark, but we just may have.

Thank you very much for listening. Please rate and review.

And remember, don't just keep it real, keep it--

Keeper of the Ashes: The Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders30 Aug 202201:07:18

TRIGGER WARNING:

This episode talks about a tragic event that happened in 1977. We discuss the heinous crime that happened and the events that followed. This is a true story that focuses on a crime committed on children. If it gets too unpleasant, please take a break and talk with someone.

Special thanks to Melissa Bisagni for researching and finding the archives and articles that were used in this discussion.

As for the alternative film that was discussed, "Someone Cry for the Children", It's a bit dated, formatted kind of funky and has some weird voice over, but it is very informative. It can be found on youtube:

14. Marvel Studios’ THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER20 Jul 202201:10:52

NERD ALERT!!!!

We finally get to talk about a Marvel movie. It's a good life when we can talk about Indigenous content in the MCU. In this episode, Angela and tvli talk about Taika Waititi's "Thor: Lub & Thunder".

Warning, there's a lot of geeking out about the MCU, and all kinds of nerding out. Plus, we hop up on the pulpit and talk about the religious content in this film.

Tune in next Sunday when the sermon will be, "There's only one God, and we're pretty sure he doesn't dress like that".

The MUSIC is:

"Our Love is Not God" by Kat Lock, from the album, "Some Recurring Notes"

Thanks for listening. and remember:

Don't just be real. Be

13. Adirondack...er, we mean Rutherford Falls S228 Jun 202200:42:38

Look at us, we made it to lucky episode 13.

It feels like it was just last week that we were talking about how much we loved season 1 of Rutherford Falls. Well, it looks like we weren't just a snag. Rutherford Falls has come back to us for a second season, and we are still in love.

In this episode, Noetta Harjo is like a great sitcom character that we just can't get enough of. She's no longer a special guest, and is starting to become a regular, and we are happy for that. So, Noetta, Candice and Angela get together to chat it up about season 2 of Rutherford Falls and say some nice things about it -- especially that wild Halloween episode.

So, crank up the Poddy Cast machine, listen up and witness the greatest love story between a podcast and a TV show.

The music, once again, is:

"Room to Grow" by Kat Lock from her "Some Recurring Notes" album.

Dig it if you can.

Thanks for listening.

Don't just keep it real...keep it Reel Indigenous!

12. Rutherford Falls Season 121 Jun 202201:02:02

No, this is not a show about the basketball legend, Randy Rutherford. Though there should be a show about him, and it would be called Rutherford Rises.

In this episode we hop a ride on the flashback machine and head back to the good ol' days of 2021, where we talk about another phenomenally badass Indigenous series that came out way back when called, "Rutherford Falls". We do an overall discussion of season 1 as season 2 streams from the Peacock right now.

Tvli talks about the show from a male point of view, and Candace and Angela have to keep him in check and explain lots of stuff to him.

But, overall, we just boast about how much we love this show.

So put on that "Free Britney" t-shirt, grab your Covid-19 vaccination card so you can remember whether you're team Pfizer or team Moderna, and maybe even Team johnson & Johnson. While you're there, you should fill up a tank of gas for less then $100 as we go back to 2021 when life was easier and "Rutherford Falls" was fresh and new. Then, come back to the present and watch season 2. Hopefully we'll chat about that fairly soon.

Thanks for listening.

The music is:

Why Are You Crying?" by Kat Lock from her "Some Recurring Notes" album.

11. Dark Winds (DUCK!)12 Jun 202201:11:51

We're back, baby, with 8 lives to spare.

Why?

Because some people got to see the new cool as a fan TV series, "Dark Winds", and we got to inquire with these bonafide media critics about it. Y'all know we had to come back for this.

In this episode our baby boy has come back home to us. After a brief stint of doing some real movie stuff, Jason Asenap has returned.

And not just that -- we gots us a special guest. Another real life critic who hails from Geek Girl Authority and goes by the handle:

Noetta Harjo.

We are so lucky that she has decided to slum it with us lowly poddycast folks.

Since Jason and Noetta are real life critics, they got to watch the new AMC show "Dark Winds". And they come here to spill the beans about what they saw.

Then after our chat, our real life journalist, Angela Startz, puts on her journalistic hat and talks about the time she hung out at a virtual roundtable discussion with Jessica Matten, Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon, Chris Eyre and Graham Roland -- the acting people, creators and storytellers of "Dark Winds".

The discussion was sponsored by the great folks at the Native American Journalist Association (NAJA).

This is kind of a long episode so hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening.

After you're done listening, don't forget to do some reading of Noetta Harjo's writings at:

https://www.geekgirlauthority.com/author/noetta/

and then maybe check out NAJA and see what all they offer:

https://najanewsroom.com/

The music is:

"Venus" by Kat Lock from her "Some Recurring Notes" album

And don't forget to watch the six episode series of "Dark Winds", dropping every Sunday, starting June 12, on AMC and on their streaming app: AMC+. Check local listings for showtimes and dates.

Remember, don't just keep it real. Keep it reel indigenous!

Okay, so, that was a short break...08 Jun 202200:00:32

Guess we're not taking a break just yet. Indigenous content be showing up all over the place (and it's about damn time! - and we still need more). Also, guests kept showing up to the party and they were the cool kids so we kept inviting them in.

Looks like the light's ain't turned out, the party ain't over, and we just gonna dance the night away!

So, keep them ears up and keep on listening. We'll whisper sweet somethings in your ear.

Thanks for showing up. It's not really a party without you. You're one of the cool kids. And, as always, rate and review and all that good stuff.

A Brief Thank You for Listening...07 Jun 202200:01:20

10. A non-Indigenous perspective of "Reservation Dogs"31 May 202200:56:18

MUSIC: "Don't Overthink Me" by Kat Lock from her "Some Recurring Notes" album

09. Reservation Dogs, "Satvrday"24 May 202200:59:16

We finally make it to the end of the first season of reservation dogs. We kind of just talk all about the last episode, a brief recap of the series and our hopes for the future of "Reservation Dogs". On the screen and the actual reservation dogs on the rez. Also, a few of us get a little too giddy about naked Gary Farmer, and we can't prove anything, but I'm sure a few of y'all took some screen shots of his beautiful nakedness. Especially all you aunties out there. All right. enjoy. All the big podcasts ask people to rate and review so please rate and review. Don't know why but it seems like the thing the kids are doing these days. You review it we might read them in a future episode. Give us a 5 star review and we'll more likely read them -- yes, we are ego driven. All right, enjoy.

Sundance with wolves12 Mar 202401:08:50

It took us a minute. Sunrise got sick, then was back on the festival circuit, but we finally got Matt and Sunrise to sit down for a bit and talk about the Sundance Film Festival and the few Indigenous movies they got to see.

They also talk about the short film, "Kicking the Clouds". A beautiful movie that you can watch here:

also here is the link to the Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative Investigative Report:

https://www.bia.gov/sites/default/files/dup/inline-files/bsi_investigative_report_may_2022_508.pdf

Also, here's a list of Indigenous film offerings at Sundance. If these movies play at a venue near you, please go see them:

The music, I guess, is canned music. Not sure where it came from, but it kinda jams, right?
