EP 49: How to really stop "self-sabotage"

Episode 49

lundi 31 octobre 2022Duration 26:42

Full disclaimer: I actually don't love the label "self-sabotage" because, while it likes to pass for self-knowledge, it is often anything but!

It's a term that gets thrown around to label behaviors that leave us perplexed because they don't seem aligned with our goals.

But upon closer look, you may notice that your unconscious has very good reasons for the way it has you behave, even if those reasons don't make logical sense at first blush.

Saying you "sabotage" yourself actually blocks your curiosity and prevents you from understanding your unconscious drivers (which is really what's running the show for us humans!).

I also reshare one of my earliest episodes which is all about self-compassion because it is the no1 ingredient for becoming your own best friend and overcoming "self-sabotaging" behaviors in a loving and lasting way. 💫

Episode 8: The surprising thing that blocks change

Have you ever made a promise to yourself that you didn’t keep?

Maybe it was to start waking up 30 min earlier and start journalling every morning.

To hand in your notice within the month to finally launch your dream project.

Or commit to eating well no matter what it took...

But no matter how many times you promised yourself to FINALLY change for good… it just didn’t stick.

AND you made it mean all kinds of horrible things about yourself: that you have no willpower, you have no control, that you're somehow "bad" or "broken"...

But guess what, being harsh on yourself when you let yourself down is the kiss of death for lasting change.

Moving toward the person you want to become can only come from FULLY accepting and loving yourself where you currently are, even though it feels like exactly the opposite is true.

Tune in to this episode to learn how to overcome your brain's sneaky ways and learn about the key to lasting habit change!

EP 48: How to make powerful decisions

Episode 48

jeudi 20 octobre 2022Duration 53:41

Have you ever been stymied by a decision? Felt the analysis paralysis creep in? Spent way more time and energy in discomfort than you would've liked?

Making decisions can so easily trip us up because of...

1 truth: decision-making is costly for the brain, and

A few untruths: there's such a thing as a right and wrong decision (there isn't) and it's FOREVER and god knows you'll fuck up your life if you pick the wrong thing!!

🥴🥴🥴

No wonder we get stuck!!

But developing the skill of making powerful decisions is super important and here's why: intentionally choosing where you put your attention and taking action in that direction is THE key to moving toward the life you want.

Join me as I bust some myths, break down how to avoid pitfalls such as "analysis paralysis" and offer what guidance to listen to in making good decisions...

And don't forget to stay on for the special treat in the end: a short meditation to help you get clarity on whatever's eating you at the moment 💕

How to gain self-awareness (& why it matters)
How to have your own back

EP 47: How to gain self-awareness (& why it matters)

Episode 47

mercredi 5 octobre 2022Duration 31:54

My simple definition of self-awareness is being present to your internal experience of life.

And it is a fundamental element of living your version of the good life since your inner reality has a HUGE impact on your outer reality.

But contrary to popular belief, introspection alone is NOT enough to gain self-awareness.

In addition to being an astute observer of the way you show up in life, the process of self-discovery is also about becoming compassionately curious as to where your reactions, thoughts and triggers come from.

And it’s not just about healing your "negative" baggage, either!

Understanding what makes you feel good is equally important. Becoming lucid about your own specific needs and wants puts you in charge of your life, since it allows you to intentionally create more of the things that bring you joy. 🌈

Lastly, connecting to the present moment and to that greater consciousness allows us to put everything into perspective... and take ourselves less seriously!

Tune into this episode to find out what the path to self-awareness looks like, and what traps to avoid on the way there...

EP 46: Finding your own compass

Episode 46

lundi 19 septembre 2022Duration 54:08

Hey friends, so happy to be back at ya after a deliciously long summer break!

Today I talk about what new ideas have been brewing in my head the last few months and how it's affecting even the way I see coaching.

And, for the main course, I'm really happy to bring to you a really insightful conversation with one of my dear clients.

Başak is a brilliant young Turkish woman who's in France for a PhD in Computational Biology (I mean, I don't even understand what that means 🤣).

When she first came to me, she was on the brink of physical and mental burnout. As many gifted adults who have chased achievement and excelled in their chosen field all their lives, she was beset by anxiety, and crushed under her own perfectionism and expectations of herself.

During our six-month package together, she got to think about her true priorities, redefined her decision-making process in life and ended up finding her own compass — which includes chasing what sounds like fun instead of choosing "what's sensible"!

As a result, she's even started to work as a health coach with actual paying clients... something that wasn't at all on the program to begin with 🙃

You're in for a real treat with this thought-provoking conversation!

EP 45: What I've learned about love

Episode 45

lundi 27 juin 2022Duration 34:43

(The podcast is going on summer hiatus! Please enjoy this final episode, share it widely if you feel inspired, and talk to you in September!)

Today's episode is a bit of a personal one.

I’ve recently gone through an intense period of growth when it comes to love and relationships.

And today, I’m debunking all kinds of common ideas about love, such as:

👉 The connection is what matters most.

👉 It is a matter of meeting the right person.

👉 Love is bound to make us suffer.

👉 The fact that a relationship ends means that it’s failed.

👉 Emotional drama is what’s needed to keep the spark alive…

Our culture is rife with misunderstandings about romantic relationships.

The problem is, these keep us stuck and repeating the same mistakes with partner after partner.

But it is possible to put a stop to your old patterns and create something far healthier, more solid and more beautiful, regardless of what happened in your past.

All the work we do of getting to know our habituated patterns, strengthening our relationship to ourselves, creating safety within… all that work is also the indispensable work of love.

It is indispensable for becoming emotionally available to let another in.

Tune in to find out how to overcome your misconceptions about love and what it takes to create that deep, loving partnership your heart is yearning for. 💕

EP 44: Using feelings as your power source

Episode 44

dimanche 12 juin 2022Duration 25:06

Today on the podcast, I'm coming at you with a unique tool that will revolutionize the way you reach your goals.

Have you ever thought about what makes the difference between setting a goal and staying the course VERSUS quitting before you ever get there?

Here's a hint: it's got to do with your FEELINGS.

You see, feelings are the reason why you set the goal... and they are the reason you give up too soon.

The fatal mistake when going after any goal is to skip this essential step: using feelings as a power source.

And here's how it works: before you do anything else, you spend time getting inspired by your future self who's already achieved the goal, and you create feelings like accomplished, confident, powerful... ahead of time.

This can be a game-changer in how you go about achieving anything you set your mind to.

Even though as human beings we are largely ruled by our emotions, we mostly misunderstand and even ignore them — as a result, missing out on their potential to help us change our lives!

Tune in to this super useful episode to learn how to make emotions your ALLY in realizing your full potential in life. 🔥

PS. Think about something you're dying to create in your life right now.

Now imagine having someone on your side who reminds you of who you truly are and what you're capable of... especially in those moments when you’re ready to call it quits.

Reach out to let me know what’s going on for you, and we’ll see if I can help!

EP 43: Victim mentality: the what, the why and the how

Episode 43

samedi 4 juin 2022Duration 33:30

Victim mentality is when you make other people or outside factors responsible for your well-being.

We all know those people who are always really negative about everyone and everything, who seem to have their share of bad luck in life, and often make their problems someone else's fault.

That might be called a typical case of victim mentality.

But the truth is, victim mentality can show up in really subtle ways even if you’re not someone who indulges in it as a general rule.

And the problem when it goes unnoticed is that, it can keep you from claiming your full agency in situations, undermine your capacity for growth and literally reduce your quality of life!

In today’s episode, I provide lots of examples of emotions and behaviors that are dead giveaways that you’re in victimhood (resentment and blame being some big ones) and give you concrete ideas to start coming out of it pronto. ✨

PS. Noticing your blind spots can be tricky business when you’re living in your own head! This is why working with a coach can make you go so much faster toward the quality of life you dream of.

Drop me an email to see if it makes sense to work together: contact@theomnivorist.com

EP 42: Clean pain vs dirty pain (reissue)

Episode 42

lundi 16 mai 2022Duration 21:15

Hey friends, today I'm republishing one of my all-time most popular episodes: clean pain vs dirt pain (and why it matters that you understand this distinction)!

I'd recommend that you listen to this again even if you've heard it the first time around — this stuff always bears repeating 🥰

----

Life is always going to be 50/50. That means half the time we'll feel good, half the time... it's going to SUCK.

And guess what? Doing the work on yourself does NOT mean you’re going to be happy and fulfilled all the time!

The true mark of becoming emotionally responsible is in HOW we handle the shitty feelings when life doesn’t go according to plan.

😫 When you don't get the promotion you wanted...

😫 When you have another screaming match with your partner...

😫 When you get your heart broken...

😫 When you don't hit your financial goals...

Learning to lean into your human feelings and experiencing the clean pain will make you stronger, more resilient.

But when you write a shitty story about what happened, you get into dirty pain and you will become afraid of taking action with confidence in the future.

And when you don’t take action confidently, you don't move closer to your goals and dreams. As simple as that.

Tune in to find out just how sneakily this may be showing up for you and how to put a stop to all that!

Also check out episode 15: How to have your own back

PS. Even though what I say may resonate for you, I guarantee that your own thoughts and reactions are still invisible to you for the most part. That means they’re holding you back despite your best intentions.

If you’re ready to have your own coach on your side to lovingly point out all the subtle ways in which you’re gaslighting yourself and quitting on your dreams, reach out to me at contact@theomnivorist.com. I’ve got a few 1:1 spots coming up!
