| Red Wings Captain Requests Trade: Where should we send him? | 06 Jun 2026 | 01:29:23 | |
The biggest Detroit Red Wings story in years may have just dropped.
According to Elliotte Friedman, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has requested a trade out of Detroit. While details remain limited, multiple reports suggest frustration with Detroit's inability to end its playoff drought and growing tension between Larkin and Steve Yzerman may have contributed to the situation.
If true, this changes everything.
In this emergency Red Wings Rant episode, we break down:
* What Friedman actually reported * Why Larkin may have reached this point * Whether Steve Yzerman could actually move his captain * Potential trade destinations * What a Larkin trade package could look like * What this means for Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider and the future of the franchise * Whether this is a sign that the Yzerplan has failed
The Detroit Red Wings have spent a decade trying to rebuild. If their captain wants out, the organization may be facing its biggest crossroads yet.

The season is over. And if you’re still holding onto hope, let me ask you this: What else do you need to see? | March Meltdown: Same Story, New Year for the Red Wings | 02 Apr 2026 | 01:11:34
The calendar flipped to March… and so did the Detroit Red Wings season. For the fourth straight year, the Red Wings fell apart when it mattered most. What once looked like a playoff team — built on health, momentum, and elite goaltending — completely unraveled. This episode of Red Wings Rant breaks down: The illusion of early-season success driven by health and hot goaltending The drop-off from elite to “just good” in net with John Gibson and Cam Talbot Back-to-back embarrassments vs. the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins A major disconnect between Todd McLellan and the locker room Why Dylan Larkin and the leadership group are running out of answers We also dive into insights from Max Bultman on how Detroit’s season unraveled — from the Simon Edvinsson injury exposing depth issues, to special teams collapsing, to a team that simply stopped showing urgency. This isn’t just about losing games. It’s about a team that, right now, doesn’t look like it cares enough to win them. And somehow… they’re still in it. | From Top of the East to 10th… What Happened to the Red Wings? | 26 Mar 2026 | 01:10:01
The Detroit Red Wings are running out of time… and answers. After spending most of the season near the top of the Eastern Conference, the Wings have now dropped to 10th place following brutal back-to-back losses to the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. Against Boston, it felt like a win stolen. But against Ottawa? That’s where things get concerning. The Senators came in:
And still… they controlled the game. Detroit found themselves down 3-0, clawed back to 3-2, but couldn’t finish—again. Even with:
It wasn’t enough. Now the big question: And inside the locker room, Moritz Seider is starting to sound like the voice of accountability: “That’s a very winnable game… if we’re not upset with ourselves, we’re doing something wrong.” With only 11 games left and likely needing ~98 points to make the playoffs, the margin for error is gone. So what happens next?

| Red Wings STEAL Point in Dallas, Kane Goes OFF — Season on the Line | 19 Mar 2026 | 01:02:10 | |
The Detroit Red Wings are still fighting for their playoff lives — and somehow, they’re still standing. After a brutal stretch that saw Detroit sliding down the standings, the Wings managed to steal a point against the Dallas Stars in a game they had no business staying in early. A rare mistake from Jake Oettinger opened the door… and Detroit walked right through it. Then came a must-win game against the Calgary Flames — and while it wasn’t perfect, the Wings got the job done. | The Red Wings Are Collapsing Again… Is March Becoming a Nightmare? | 12 Mar 2026 | 01:12:26
The Detroit Red Wings were two minutes away from building momentum. Instead, they blew a late 3-2 lead to the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers and lost 4-3 after allowing two goals in just a couple minutes. A missed clear by Simon Edvinsson and a weak defensive sequence involving Justin Faulk turned a potential win into another brutal March collapse. Now the Red Wings are fighting to hold onto a wild card spot. Detroit currently holds the first wild card position by just one point over the Boston Bruins, who also have a game in hand. Columbus is only three points back with a game in hand of their own, and Ottawa is surging with just one regulation loss in their last ten games. To make matters worse, injuries are starting to pile up. • Dylan Larkin was injured on a rush last Friday • Andrew Copp left Tuesday night’s game with an injury • A short-handed Red Wings roster ran out of gas late against Florida Detroit did make moves at the trade deadline, adding Justin Faulk and bringing David Perron back, but the price was steep — including a first-round pick with no protection. If the Red Wings continue sliding in March again, the worst-case scenario is suddenly becoming very real. In this episode of Red Wings Rant, we break down: • The collapse against Florida • Whether the trade deadline moves actually improved the team • The brutal reality of the wild card race • Injuries to Dylan Larkin and Andrew Copp • Why depth players are becoming a major problem • Detroit’s upcoming games against Tampa Bay and Dallas With Tampa Bay on Thursday and Dallas on Saturday, the Red Wings may have to find a way to survive without two of their most important forwards. The playoff race is tightening. And the margin for error is disappearing fast. JOIN THE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/rd2RUDkzuS Let’s have fun! Sponsored by Draft Kings! | Yzerman Finally Acts! Red Wings Trade for Perron & Justin Faulk | 06 Mar 2026 | 00:21:03
The Detroit Red Wings finally made their move at the NHL trade deadline. Steve Yzerman adds two key pieces for the playoff push — bringing back veteran winger David Perron and acquiring top-four defenseman Justin Faulk. Detroit sent: • A conditional 4th-round pick for Perron Perron returns to Detroit after previously playing with the Red Wings from 2022-2024, where he was one of the team’s most respected locker-room leaders and a key offensive contributor. The 37-year-old winger should help Detroit’s struggling five-on-five offense and bring playoff experience back into the lineup. Justin Faulk addresses one of Detroit’s biggest needs — a right-shot top-four defenseman. Logging over 22 minutes a night, Faulk strengthens the second defensive pair, adds puck movement from the blue line, and provides valuable offensive production from the back end. In this episode of Red Wings Rant, we break down: • Why bringing Perron back makes sense for Detroit The Red Wings needed help. And now they finally have it. | Steve Yzerman Is On the Clock | Red Wings Trade Deadline Pressure | 06 Mar 2026 | 00:59:12
The Detroit Red Wings have done everything asked of them this season. They’ve responded to adversity. Now with the NHL trade deadline approaching, the pressure shifts to Steve Yzerman. Inspired by the latest analysis from Max Bultman, this episode of Red Wings Rant dives into why Detroit’s front office needs to act before the deadline. The Red Wings blew a 3-1 third-period lead to the Vegas Golden Knights, losing 4-3 in overtime — a painful reminder that this team still has clear weaknesses. But those weaknesses have been obvious for months. Detroit needs:
Now it’s time for Yzerman to show belief in this locker room and give Detroit the boost it deserves for the final 20 games. We break down:
But if they’re going to snap the playoff drought, they need one more push. And that push has to come from Steve Yzerman. #LGRW #DetroitRedWings #NHLPlayoffs #AtlanticDivision #MaxBultman JOIN THE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/rd2RUDkzuS Let’s have fun! | Is 96 Points Enough? Red Wings Playoff Math at the Olympic Break | 12 Feb 2026 | 00:44:11
The NHL is on Olympic break — and the Detroit Red Wings are sitting third in the Atlantic Division. But what does that actually mean? According to Max Bultman’s latest mailbag, the Eastern Conference cut line may land closer to 99 points this year — not the 91–92 we’ve seen recently. That makes the simple “.500 hockey gets you in” narrative a little too comfortable. In this episode of Red Wings Rant, we break down:

| Red Wings at the Olympic Break: Ceiling Proven, Questions Remain | 06 Feb 2026 | 01:00:57 | |
The Red Wings head into the Olympic break with their goals still in sight — and their biggest questions unresolved. Detroit closed the pre-break stretch by proving two very different things. First, they showed their ceiling by shutting out Colorado, becoming the first team all season to hold the Avalanche scoreless while limiting them to their lowest high-danger chance output of the year. Then, just days later, a 4–1 loss to Utah — with the lone goal coming on the power play — reminded everyone where this team remains vulnerable. We break down why the Colorado win mattered so much, how Detroit locked down one of the NHL’s most dangerous offenses, and why that response prevented a potential skid heading into the break. We also discuss what the Utah loss revealed about Detroit’s ongoing struggle to generate consistent five-on-five offense, especially when space tightens. Using insight from Max Bultman, we take stock of where the Red Wings stand at the Olympic break:
This isn’t a panic point — it’s a pause. The Olympic break gives Detroit time to reset, evaluate, and decide how aggressive to be before March 6. The Red Wings have proven they can defend with anyone. Now they have to answer the harder question: can they score when it matters most? | Edvinsson Out — What This Means for the Red Wings Deadline | 29 Jan 2026 | 01:10:09
Simon Edvinsson is out through the Olympic break — and the Red Wings just got a real test. Detroit followed up an 8-1-1 stretch with a tight, frustrating 3–1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings, a team built to choke off offense and win on the margins. The result wasn’t panic-worthy — but it was revealing. We break down what Edvinsson’s injury actually changes, why the Kings were able to make Detroit look sloppy without dominating play, and how two defensive lapses ultimately decided the game. We also dig into why breaking up the Albert Johansson–Jacob Bernard-Docker pairing mattered, and what that tells us about blue-line certainty heading toward the trade deadline. Using insight from Max Bultman, plus postgame comments from Todd McLellan, we separate urgency from execution and ask the bigger question: We also cover:

| Seider Takes Over in Toronto: Red Wings Win a Playoff Game in January | 23 Jan 2026 | 01:17:57 | |
The Red Wings are winning, developing internally, and staring straight at a trade market that’s getting more expensive by the day. We start with a quick results check, including Detroit’s win over San Jose, the OT win against Ottawa, and tonight’s game vs. Toronto (updated after puck drop). Marco Kasper’s breakout performance against the Sharks is a key part of that conversation, raising an important question as the deadline approaches: how much help does Detroit truly need from outside versus growth from within? From there, we pivot to the trade market. With Rasmus Andersson off the board and the Feb. 4 Olympic roster freeze looming, early trades are carrying a premium. Using The Score’s updated trade board as context, we break down why January has quietly become the new deadline — and why Detroit can’t afford to chase urgency. | Red Wings Statement Wins + Rasmus Andersson & Dougie Hamilton Trade Buzz | 15 Jan 2026 | 01:13:51
The Detroit Red Wings remain firmly in the Atlantic Division race — and this week proved why. Detroit delivered two massive statement wins, blanking the red-hot Montreal Canadiens 4–0 on the road and gutting out an overtime victory against the Carolina Hurricanes, another Eastern Conference heavyweight. Those weren’t flukes — they were games where the Wings showed structure, composure, and the ability to shut teams down. Detroit’s 3–0 loss to the Boston Bruins looks ugly on the surface, but context matters. This was the second night of a back-to-back after an emotional overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes, followed by travel from Detroit to Boston. The third period turned into a possession nightmare, and it was clear the legs were gone. Not a great performance — but not a true reflection of who this team has been all season. Sometimes fatigue wins, and this felt like one of those nights. We also dig into trade chatter after Elliotte Friedman reported on 32 Thoughts that Detroit is among the frontrunners for Rasmus Andersson. His raw numbers don’t jump off the page, but when you factor in his workload as Calgary’s No. 1 defenseman, the fit in Detroit — behind Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson — gets very interesting. Nex, we discuss the unexpected name surfacing around the league: Dougie Hamilton. After being scratched in New Jersey and trade noise picking up, does his offensive upside outweigh the $9M cap hit and term? And would Detroit even want to commit long-term? Looking ahead, Detroit gets a chance to reset with games against the San Jose Sharks and the Ottawa Senators. After handling Ottawa on the road just a week ago, the question now is simple: do the Senators come in desperate for revenge, or does Detroit continue to assert itself as the more complete team? These are the kinds of games that matter in the standings — opportunities to bank points, control pace, and prove that the Wings belong in the top tier of the Atlantic. Big wins, smart context, and real trade talk — let’s rant. JOIN THE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/rd2RUDkzuS Let’s have fun! Sponsored by Draft Kings! | Red Wings Winning Ugly, Top Line Questions, and the Next Test | 08 Jan 2026 | 01:23:44
The Red Wings are still winning — but the path hasn’t been clean. In this extended episode of Red Wings Rant, we break down a critical stretch that includes back-to-back losses to Pittsburgh, a controversial but important win over Ottawa, and what those games reveal about where Detroit actually stands. The Wings were thoroughly out-chanced against the Penguins at five-on-five, posting just a 38.4% expected-goals share. Against Ottawa, they flipped the script on the scoreboard — despite MoneyPuck giving them only a 27% chance to win — by capitalizing on mistakes, special teams, and timely goaltending. That contrast leads to the real question: not “is it sustainable?” — but how good teams find ways to survive when they don’t have their best game. We dig into:

| Seider Takes Over as Wings Sweep Caps, Lead the Atlantic | 24 Dec 2025 | 00:44:20 | |
The Red Wings are rolling — and Moritz Seider is driving the bus. In this short pre-game episode before puck drop against the Stars, we break down Detroit’s back-to-back wins over the Washington Capitals, capped by Seider’s overtime game-winner and another dominant weekend from Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond. The Wings are now first in the Atlantic by points and points percentage, tied for third-most regulation wins in the Eastern Conference, and — most importantly — winning games the right way, not by sneaking into overtime. What’s fueling the surge? December has been Detroit’s “regression to the mean” month — in the best possible way.5-on-5 (Dec 1–23):

| Should Red Wings Sack Up? | December analytics regression | 19 Dec 2025 | 01:00:51 | |
The Red Wings are back in first place in the Atlantic — but the path there hasn’t been clean. This week on Red Wings Rant, we break down a wildly successful West Coast road trip, including shutout wins in Vancouver and Chicago, a statement victory over the Islanders, and why the Utah Mammoth loss looks more like a fatigue-driven anomaly than a warning sign. December has quietly become Detroit’s regression-to-the-mean month, with top-tier PDO, shooting percentage, and goaltending metrics finally catching up to the underlying play. But the biggest conversation looms larger than any single game. Did the Red Wings miss a once-in-a-decade opportunity by not landing Quinn Hughes? Using reporting from Max Bultman, Sean Shapiro, Elliotte Friedman, and Pierre LeBrun, we dive into what the Hughes non-trade says about Steve Yzerman’s risk tolerance, the value of elite stars versus prospect depth, and whether Detroit is doing enough to capitalize on Dylan Larkin’s prime years. This is the most honest Red Wings conversation yet — the good, the bad, and the uncomfortable middle. In this episode of Red Wings Rant, we break down Elliotte Friedman’s latest reporting that Detroit and Vancouver have talked — and that if the Canucks decide to move Hughes, the Red Wings are one of the few teams with the assets to get him. We also walk through Harman Dayal’s fascinating new piece in The Athletic, detailing why Detroit is uniquely positioned to extend Hughes long-term thanks to CBA timing, Michigan ties, and a massive financial advantage over all other suitors — especially New Jersey. Then we pivot to Moritz Seider, who isn’t just climbing the Norris rankings… Plus:

| Red Wings vs Devils Reaction: Detroit Fights Hard, But the Data Reveals a Bigger Issue | 27 Nov 2025 | 00:47:03 | |
The Detroit Red Wings lost 4–3 to the New Jersey Devils, but unlike so many of their blowout losses this season, this one showed real fight. Detroit heavily out-chanced the Devils at 5-on-5, dominated long stretches of play, and nearly tied the game with a frantic two-minute barrage in the final moments. This was one of those rare “good” losses — not something we celebrate often on Red Wings Rant — but the effort in periods two and three showed what this team can be when they lock in. Still, the problems are real. Early defensive mistakes continue to sink the Wings, with breakdowns in coverage, failed clears, and brutal giveaways repeatedly ending up in the back of the net. With Simon Edvinsson out, Detroit is forced to lean more heavily on a third pair that simply cannot keep up. And the analytics tell an even clearer story: the Wings have the 5th worst High-Danger Goals For%, league-worst Medium-Danger Goals For%, 3rd worst shooting percentage, 5th worst save percentage, and 2nd worst PDO at 5-on-5. Even at all strengths, Detroit is top-5 in expected goals but bottom-10 in both shooting and save percentage. A good team keeps beating itself. We also break down strong performances from Larkin, Raymond, Finnie, and Seider, the physical pushback the Wings showed late in the game, the awful non-call on Jonas Siegenthaler’s hit to Lucas Raymond’s head, and why this loss — strangely — gives us more confidence in Detroit’s long-term trajectory. Plus: Emmitt Finnie makes honorable mention in The Athletic’s Calder Trophy race. Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings finally have a home. Red Wings Rant — Episode Narrative (Nov 19) “20 Games In: First Place… and Still Flawed?” The Detroit Red Wings reached the 20-game mark in first place in the Atlantic Division — a sentence that would’ve sounded insane seven days ago, when this team was stuck in the mud, blowing leads, and wrestling with its identity. And the wildest part? If the Wings could take advantage of a soft stretch — Ducks, Sabres, Rangers, Kraken — they could claw back into a strong position. One week later? They handled Anaheim, That’s growth. That’s progress. “Until this group figures out what’s important at certain times, we’re going to have those nights.” Against Buffalo? The Seattle third period wasn’t flashy — five shots allowed, perfect breakouts, clean faceoffs, pucks deep, smart changes. This is what real playoff teams do.

| Red Wings Are a Top-10 Win Percentage Team | Why Do They Keep Falling Apart? | 14 Nov 2025 | 00:54:15 | |
The Red Wings are one of the strangest teams in the NHL right now. In this episode, we break down why the Wings keep swinging between dominant and disastrous, including: Why their win percentage paints a WAY better picture than their actual record The standings favor loser points — we don’t. When you sort the NHL by actual wins per game, Detroit sits in the top third of the league. The goaltending problem that’s draining winnable games John Gibson allows 4 goals on 1.86 expected against Chicago. Talbot and Gibson rank bottom-10 in Goals Saved Above Expected. Detroit has the 6th-worst team save percentage. This team isn’t getting average goaltending — and it’s costing them points. | Red Wings Wrap Up Road Trip Strong | Gibson Shines in Vegas Loss | What's Next at Home | 06 Nov 2025 | 00:35:46
The Detroit Red Wings finish their five-game road trip sitting second in the Atlantic Division — and the analytics show exactly why. Detroit currently sits around 51.5% in expected goals for percentage (xGF%) at both five-on-five and all strengths, signaling a team that’s genuinely driving play and out-chancing opponents most nights. But dig deeper, and the cracks appear: It’s a sign of a team that needs its high-end creators — Patrick Kane and Lucas Raymond — back to convert those elite chances. Even so, this year’s 51.5% expected goals share marks a major leap forward for Detroit and helps explain why they’re staying near the top of the standings despite average PDO and inconsistent goaltending. The Detroit Red Wings’ rollercoaster start to the season continues — but this week, it’s all trending upward. Did Yzerman's quiet trade deadline and roster inaction undermine the team’s playoff push? Are the players losing confidence in the vision? We get into the ripple effect of leadership silence, the cost of complacency, and what this means for the future of the Yzerplan.

Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens just signed Ivan Demidov, continuing their rebuild with purpose and precision. We compare where Montreal is heading versus where Detroit should be, and ask the tough question: what will it take for the Red Wings to build a contender the right way? | What the Red Wings Need to Level Up This Offseason | 03 Apr 2025 | 00:40:00
Hi everybody, and welcome to Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings finally have a home. The Red Wings have just 8 games left, are 4 points out of a playoff spot, and own the toughest remaining schedule in the NHL. After yet another soul-crushing loss, we’re here to say what everyone’s thinking: it’s not technically over... but it’s over. In this episode, we break down why this collapse should spark bigger changes than most fans expect—especially with Detroit’s all-time worst Penalty Kill dragging the team down. We talk potential roster turnover, and why the Wings must be in the mix for impact forwards like Nikolaj Ehlers, Mitch Marner, Sam Bennett, and Brock Boeser. We also pitch Vladislav Gavrikov as a defensive target, and react to Trey Augustine’s decision to return to MSU for another year instead of turning pro. It’s a tough time to be a Wings fan—but this is the Rant. Let’s get into it. JOIN THE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/rd2RUDkzuS Let’s have fun! Sponsored by Draft Kings!
