Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to the Rebinge Deep Space Nine podcast. If this is your first time here, please give us a try! We walk through each and every episode of the 7-season series (except for 2 episodes we found a bit offensive). We do some over-analysis, we do some discussions of leadership, we talk about the portrayal of women in the future and we laugh a lot along the way. James starts off as a big fan, but it takes Kim awhile to get into the show. Don't worry, she gets into it after season 1!

Please join us on this journey whether it's your hundredth time through the series or your first time!

RBDS9 176 – When it Rains… (S7E21)15 Oct 202300:55:52
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: When it Rains...

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E21: When it Rains... In this episode you might think Kai Winn has to own up to what she did to poor Solbor...but instead, she doubles down on her deceit. Meanwhile, Julian discovers that Odo is carrying the Founder disease after all and he immediately starts searching for a cure while Odo, Kira and Garak are off to help Damar.

When it Rains...

This episode lives up to its title because the bad things are piling up. We learn that Odo is indeed carrying the Founder disease. Damar's resistance movement is out of food and out of brainpower. Kira, Odo and Garak arrive to help but the bickering starts early and doesn't really stop! Julian can't get his hands on some info from Starfleet Medical that he thinks will help Odo. And worse of all, Julian thinks Worf and Ezri are an item (just kidding, that part is dumb).

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Crossfire

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 12: Crossfire. Even though you might think it's a mirror episode with a title like that, it's not! Instead it's an exploration of Odo's deep hidden love for Kira! Guest star Duncan Regehr is back as Shakaar, but they have messed up his hair big time. This dude should not have bangs. What were they thinking?

Crossfire

First Minister Shakaar comes to the station for some negotiations with the Federation. While he's there we watch Odo die a little on the inside as someone else steals Kira's heart right in front of him (again). Odo and Worf increase security on the station as Shakaar receives death threats, but Odo is distracted by his unrequited love and has to get some advice on love from Quark. Yep, Quark. Go figure.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Paradise Lost

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 11: Paradise Lost Part II. Admiral Falcon Crest and Grandpa Joe are back as our suspicion of a deep conspiracy grows. Are there really shapeshifters everywhere or is Admiral FC up to something?! Guest stars Robert Foxworth and Brock Peters are back!

Also back, San Diego artist and big DS9 fan Attiba Royster joins us for this two-parter. Check out Attiba's artwork here and listen to his pop culture podcast Teebs and Kid Phoenix Vs.

Paradise Lost

In this episode, Sisko has to face the possibility that his friend and former boss has been telling some lies. Just as Sisko is about to uncover some hard truths, he gets tossed in jail as a suspected shapeshifter. Don't worry Odo is up to his season 1 tricks of turning into a piece of furniture and sneaking into surprising places! Sisko is out to prove FC is a traitor. Worf is trying to get the Defiant to earth before it's too late. And Grandpa Joe wants to get those unpaid workers back in the kitchen. What will happen?

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Homefront

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 10: Homefront Part 1. We head to earth where we find some growing paranoia over the changelings. We meet Admiral Leyton (also known as Admiral Falcon Crest) played by Robert Foxworth from Sisko's past. Will this admiral be another disappointment to the rank? Count on it! We also finally meet Grandpa Joe in person, played by the familiar face of Brock Peters.

San Diego artist and big DS9 fan Attiba Royster joins us for this two-parter. Check out Attiba's artwork here and listen to his pop culture podcast Teebs and Kid Phoenix Vs.

Homefront

In this episode, the crew heads back to earth to help Starfleet understand the Dominion threat. Odo comes along to provide some expert advice and Jake comes along to hang out with Grandpa Joe and Nog! Sisko ends up with the crappy job of shoring up security at Starfleet while everyone freaks out about the changelings. Meanwhile, Grandpa Joe is hiding some health issues and complaining about his rights.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Our Man Bashir

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 9: Our Man Bashir! It's time for a very famous episode where Julian and Garak are trapped in a holosuite program where Julian is a suave, capable spy. Tune in for our discussion of what makes this episode interesting - spoiler alert, it's not the Bond connection! It's actually a story of jealousy and love! Also listen in for Kim's new crush...it's not Bashir.

Is Bashir Our Man?

Julian has a new toy: a holo program of him essentially playing James Bond. It even has the music! He's been snubbing Garak in favor of this new program, so Garak noses his way in to see what all the fuss is about. An he's a little horrified at the false portrayal of spy work and maybe a little upset that Julian's type doesn't look more like him. Meanwhile Snodgrass, Odo and Rom are racing to save the rest of the crew from being lost in a transporter accident.

RBDS9 083 – The Sword Of Kahless (S4E8)28 Nov 202100:50:11
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Sword of Kahless

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 8: The Sword of Kahless. We've got an extra Klingon on the station and that means trouble! Kor, from Blood Oath arrives and he's on a quest to find the mythical Sword of Kahless. Worf and Dax tag along for the adventure!

The Sword of Kahless

Kor gets wind of the location of the mythical Klingon treasure and Worf believes it's something that could unite his people. Trouble is, Kor is a bit of a drinker and a bit of a talker and he may have let the plan spill a few times. So while Dax, Worf and Kor search for the sword, some others are following in their footsteps with less than honorable intentions.

RBDS9 082 – Little Green Men (S4E7)21 Nov 202100:43:29
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Little Green Men

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 7: Little Green Men. In this episode we learn Quark, Rom and Nog are the aliens that visited Roswell in 1947. I mean this actually makes a lot of sense and results in some very amusing gags.

Little Green Men

Quark's cousin gives him a ship as payment for an old debt, but the joke is on Quark as the ship is rigged to fail. When Rom tries a desperate act of Star Trek science to save them, they end up going back in time and landing in Roswell, NM in 1947. Some of this episode is cute (like this time travel stuff) and some of this episode is not (like tricking the female nurse into performing physical acts of pleasure on the Ferengi ears). So...yeah, was that really necessary? Another attempt at Ferengi humor...which seems to be funny to a very narrow audience. *SIGH*

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Starship Down

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 6: Starship Down. This week we have an action packed episode where Sisko makes a risky decision putting the Defiant in crisis. When our crew is cut off from each, they scramble to save the ship from certain disaster! We have a lot of people on the ship that we've never seen before (spoiler, they're not all alive at the end of the episode) and we have special guest star James Cromwell NOT playing Zefram Cochrane.

Starship Down

Sisko takes the Defiant into the volatile atmosphere of a gas giant in attempt to rescue some Karemma from two Jem'Hadar cockroaches. And this decision proves costly when several crew members are quickly lost in a Jem'Hadar attack. Sisko suffers a potentially fatal head injury, Dax sucks in a lung full of a deadly gas and Worf is mean to some engineers. I mean come on, a lot is going on!

RBDS9 080 – Rejoined (S4E5)07 Nov 202100:48:03
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Rejoined

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 5: Rejoined. We've got some Trill drama when former lives cross paths on the station. Susanna Thompson guest stars as Dr. Lenara Kahn the widow of Dax's former host Torias. And because the Trill are kind of jerks, they shame anyone who connects with their past loves.

Rejoined

Sisko tries to avoid this entire problem by suggesting Dax tax a vacation before Dr. Lenara hits the station, but does she listen? No! And does he say "I told you so"? No! But he should have because this turns into a whole big drama where Dax falls back into love with someone she doesn't really know. I guess that only makes sense in the land of Trill.

But I would be remiss if I didn't point out the greatest thing in this episode: The costumes. Lenara looks amazing, it's true, but everyone pales in comparison to the stunning new dress uniform that Kira sports. Where has this been my whole life!? Yes, I understand what this episode is about and how groundbreaking it is and blah blah blah...BUT LOOK AT KIRA'S OUTFIT!

RBDS9 079 – Indiscretion (S4E4)31 Oct 202100:55:39
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Indiscretion

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 4: Indiscretion. Here comes Dukat! And you know that he's the reason for the title! Kira gets stuck on a painful roadtrip with Dukat and he is not a fun travel companion. He's insulting, never stops talking and he's always up to no good. Can Kira keep her cool?

Indiscretion

Kira and Dukat head out on a trip to locate a long-missing Cardassian ship that held Bajoran prisoners. Kira begrudgingly puts up with her annoying travel companion and she learns a little about his sordid past along the way. She also has to pull a giant spike out of his butt....but that's another story.

Meanwhile, back on the station, we have a distinctly 90's sitcom story taking place with Sisko showing a weird fear of commitment. We were not impressed by the B-story, but the A-story is interesting!

RBDS9 078 – Hippocratic Oath (S4E3)24 Oct 202100:53:02
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Hippocratic Oath

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 3: Hippocratic Oath. After the cry fest that was The Visitor, we get a respite with a back-to-basics Star Trek episode. We've got Julian and Miles on an away mission together where they get into mortal danger with some Jem'Hadar soldiers. And we've got a normal B-story going on back at the station with Worf and Odo. So regardless of how much you cried last week, everything is back to normal this week! We get into a discussion about Starfleet and the Federation in dealings with other races that are essentially slaves and we also talk a lot about leadership and management in this episode!

Hippocratic Oath

When Miles and Julian crash land on a planet in the Gamma Quadrant, they get into some deep trouble with a group of Jem'Hadar soldiers. One of them is convinced there is a way to get un-hooked from the enzyme they need to live and he wants Julian to help. Miles isn't so keen on doing anything for these brutal dudes. When Miles acts on his own, disobeying Julian's orders we are in for an awkward ride home.

Meanwhile, back on the station, Worf isn't impressed with Odo's lack of interest in Quark's illegal dealings. Worf, we see you and we understand!

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Changing Face of Evil

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E20: The Changing Face of Evil. In this episode Kai Winn finally learns the truth about Dukat and poor Solbor pays the ultimate price for her sins.

The Changing Face of Evil

So many bad things happening this week! Kai Winn continues to dig into that evil book without much luck....that is until Solbor reveals Dukat's evil secret. With literal blood on her hands, Winn finally gets the book to show her its secrets. The Breen and the Dominion are fast friends now as the Federation suffers a tremendous battle loss. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Visitor

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to the saddest episode in Star Trek history: S4E2: The Visitor. Whyyyy are you torturing us, Star Trek? Ok, so everyone on the planet who has seen Deep Space Nine, knows what I'm talking about! If you haven't yet seen it, brace yourself...but absolutely do watch it. Guest actor Tony Todd plays a grown-up Jake and well...wait I have to wipe my eyes before I write any more.

The Visitor

When our hero Captain Sisko is tragically "killed" in an accident right in front of sweet Jake's eyes, we go from sad to sadder to omg sobbing! Jake doesn't want to leave the station after his dad is taken from him yet the world seems to just keep turning around him. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Way of the Warrior - Part II

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to the second part of our discussion of S4E1 of DS9: The Way of the Warrior Part II. In the second part of our podcast discussing The Way of the Warrior, Worf's crisis seems to deepen and Sisko takes the crew on a mission to rescue Dukat (and friends) from the attacking Klingons.

The Way of the Warrior Part II

When Worf rejects Gowran's offer to join the fight against the Cardassians, everything goes haywire. Sisko takes the crew on a mission to rescue Dukat and the new civilian government (DRINK) from the attacking Klingons. This only serves to infuriate the Klingons who then descend on the station with an all out attack. But Sisko and Miles have some new tricks up their sleeves and they are not going down without a fight. So. Much. Fighting. We've got space battles and hand to hand combat in this episode. This is how the Dominion is going to win. Stop dividing yourselves, people!

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Way of the Warrior - Part I

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to S4E1 of DS9: The Way of the Warrior. We've arrived at season 4! That means Sisko has shaved his head, the Klingons are causing trouble and Lt. Worf has arrived! This is a super-sized episode of Star Trek, but because we talk a lot, we decided to split it into two parts. So this week is the first half!

The Way of the Warrior Part I

The Klingons have arrived at the station and are sniffing around everyone looking for changelings. On a good day the Klingons aren't terribly friendly, but they are down right rude in this episode and Sisko is not amused. When Sisko realizes he needs some Klingon help of his own, he calls in an old favorite and Mr. Worf arrives in his full glory. But he's a little lost since the destruction of the Enterprise, so he needs some solid advice with a new captain.

We rank the top and bottom episodes talk about performances, costumes and hair - you know, the important stuff! We hope you'll join us!

Season 3 Wrap Up

Season 3 flew by, but wow there were some high highs and some low lows. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Adversary

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 26 of Deep Space Nine: The Adversary. We've arrived at another season finale - somehow we made it through season 3! In this episode we spend a lot of time on the Defiant (which James appreciates) chasing after a villain who could be anybody (which Kim appreciates). It's The Thing meets X-Files! We also have guest star Lawrence Pressman returning in a different role and a bunch of crew members we've somehow never seen before (hello Jeff Austin as Bolian).

The Adversary

Even though we should all be expecting Founders to show up everywhere, we are still somehow surprised when they do. The good news in this episode is Sisko is finally promoted to captain. The bad news is a lot of NPCs are going down as another Founder sneaks his way into the story and causes havoc. Poor Odo...this is not his finest or happiest moment and we end this episode (and season) with some real drama.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Facets

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 25 of Deep Space Nine: Facets. In this episode all of the hosts of Dax are brought to the surface and shared with her closest friends. Nobody asks any questions, they just turn their bodies over to Dax. Really!? I'd be asking A LOT of questions.

Facets

It's time for Jadzia's zhian'tara which means that Gargamel from the Smurfs stops by to transfer memories of Dax's previous hosts into other people. Then weirdly Dax just a has a chat with them...and nobody asks any questions they just go with it! Everything is going fine until the merger of Curzon and Odo turns Odo into Clayton Endicott III...or something like it...and he doesn't want to go back to how he was. Leave it to Curzon to be the jerk!

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Shakaar

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 24 of Deep Space Nine: Shakaar. Kai Winn is back! Yay! Louise Fletcher graces us with her presence again as does Duncan Regehr as the title character Shakaar - you might remember him from an infamous TNG episode where he plays a ghost...or a candle....not sure. Either way, he's a tall drink of freedom fighting water and Kira is ready to go back to the trenches with him! I mean who wouldn't? Look at him!

Shakaar

In this episode, Kai Winn tries to get Kira to help her with a task and then shocks everyone (no one) by having impure motives. Kira ends up back with her freedom fighting buddies in a scuffle that may lead to a Bajoran civil war. Meanwhile, Miles is good at darts. The B-story is a little light in this episode!

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Family Business

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 23 of Deep Space Nine: Family Business. We were not super thrilled with this ridiculous episode - maybe it was too much a product of its time or maybe it wasn't even good enough for its time! Whatever the reason, this one isn't a good look for Trek. There's a lot of nonsense in this episode reminding us about the Ferengi laws against women making a profit, leaving their homes and even wearing clothes. It's a little hard to swallow. It's a lot hard to tolerate. You've probably noticed, our podcast is very short as there was only so much time we were willing to devote to this topic.

Family Business

In this episode, Quark learns that his mother is up to "no good" back on Ferenginar. She's been wearing clothes and making money. So Rom and Quark turn up to convince her to confess and give back everything she's earned. This episode is ridiculous. I have no further comment.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Explorers

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 22 of Deep Space Nine: Explorers. Sisko is on a mission to build a space ship out of wood and prove some ancient Bajoran legends may have actually been truths. And that jerk Dukat is here to try and convince him not to bother. But never fear, Sisko has a goatee and he will not be stopped.

Explorers

In this episode, Sisko turns up with a goatee and we couldn't be happier about it. He's also got a new hobby - he's found some plans for an ancient spaceship that Bajorans supposedly flew and he wants to build one! Not everyone thinks this is a great idea, but he does it anyway! And he sets out with Jake on a relatively perilous journey toward Cardassia. We've also got a B story of Julian and the woman who beat him out of the valedictorian title in school (how old are you when you stop worrying about being valedictorian? Come on Julian, give it up.). In the podcast we discuss all kinds of things including taking your kid on dangerous trips, Cardassians being jerks, wearing costumes to Comic-Con, and the concept of being homesick (James doesn't get it).

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Die is Cast

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 21 of Deep Space Nine: The Die is Cast, Part II. Garak finds himself back in the Order, Sisko is planning to rescue Odo and suck-up Snodgrass is up to no good. We've got torture, we've got sabotage we've got surprise changelings and we've got mimosas! This episode has a lot to unpack! We wrap up our over-analysis of this two-parter with our guest host and local artist Attiba Royster! Attiba is here as a big DS9 fan and an even bigger Garak fan! And he's also here to plug his artwork and new podcast Teebs & Kid Phoenix VS. Check it out!

Who Casts the Die??

Last week ended with Garak enthusiastically jumping back into his old life while Odo seemed to be in a perilous situation on Tain's ship. In this episode, Sisko is on a mission (against Starfleet's orders) to rescue Odo from Tain's clutches. The usual crew (plus Snodgrass/Eddington) gas up the Defiant and head into the Gamma Quadrant in search of their friend. Meanwhile Garak slips into some old habits of trying to torture answers out of someone...but this is much more than he bargained for as he watches Odo crumble before his eyes. While he seems so sure of himself at the beginning of the episode when he's sipping Mimosa's with his "dad" but by the end, he's not feeling so great about his place in the Order.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Strange Bedfellows

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E19: Strange Bedfellows. In this episode, Worf and Ezri finally sort out their issues and Kai Winn learns that it's not the prophets who she's been talking to. And in even bigger news, Damar has finally seen the light. Louise Fletcher continues on as a guest star as we roll to the end of the series.

Strange Bedfellows

Damar has finally hit rock bottom and decides maybe the booze is not helping him after all. Once he sobers up, he manages to pretty quickly see what the Dominion is up to regarding the Cardassian people (and it's not good). Meanwhile, Ezri and Worf continue to be held captive and continue to bicker like teenagers. Back on the station, Kai Winn learns she's been conversing the Pah-Wraiths NOT with the Prophets and she is none too pleased. But when she tries to talk it out with Kira, she starts to think she's been playing for the wrong team.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Improbable Cause

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 20 of Deep Space Nine: Improbable Cause, Part I. We are very happy to report this is a two-parter with Garak at the center! And if that's not great enough to suck you in, we also have a guest host in local artist and DS9 fan Attiba Royster! Attiba is here to help us break down some intense Garak content and also to plug his artwork and new podcast Teebs & Kid Phoenix VS. Check it out!

Improbable Cause

We open with a literal bang when there is an explosion in Garak's shop. This sends Garak and Odo into a mysterious investigation as they search for an assassin but uncover a complex conspiracy. These two deserved their own spinoff detective series in the 90s...but alas...never happened. Odo just wants some honest answers from Garak and Garak just wants to know who is trying to kill him (without revealing anything whatsoever about himself). Meanwhile they end up smack in the middle of some Cardassian / Romulan shenanigans.

RBDS9 066 – Through the Looking Glass (S3E19)26 Jul 202100:55:02
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Through the Looking Glass

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 19 of Deep Space Nine: Through the Looking Glass. Yassss! Back to the Mirrorverse! This time it's Sisko who gets pulled into the dark other world by Mirror Miles who has rigged a device to just beam across! Who knew it was so easy?? We've got some bumpy stuff in this episode with a woefully done-wrong-by Dax and some questionable acting by one of the guest stars...but we also get Leather Kira, cowboy Sisko and cranky Garak, so maybe it's not so bad.

Through the Looking Glass (Again)

We knew Miles was up to something when he turned up in Ops in a new outfit that was not his uniform, his rebel outfit or his sexy Keiko-only outfit. And we were right...this is not our beloved Chief, it's Mirror Miles and he's come to kidnap Sisko. So Sisko finally gets a taste of the Mirrorverse and at first he's not so thrilled to be there, but then he finds out that his wife Jennifer is still around in this universe. So he thinks you know what, maybe I'll hang out here a bit and he embarks on a mission to save Jennifer from herself and the Alliance.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Distant Voices

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 18 of Deep Space Nine: Oh My Tennis Balls! Just kidding....it's time for Distant Voices. In this episode we talk about Lutherans, muppets and tennis balls (there are a lot of tennis balls). We also get a look deep into the crevices of Julian's brain...and it turns out those crevices really aren't that deep.

Distant Voices

Julian meets an unpleasant Lutheran...or was it Lethian...who is trying to acquire an illegal medical substance. When Julian doesn't help, the alien attacks him sending him into a trap inside of his own mind (that looks a lot like the station). While Julian runs around the nearly abandoned station he encounters Garak playing tennis, Miles who is afraid of his own shadow and tennis balls falling from panels. In addition to scary flickering lights, disappearing crew mates and flying tennis balls, Julian is rapidly aging into a balcony-sitting muppet.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Visionary

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 17 of Deep Space Nine: Visionary. We've got Romulans hanging out on the station while Miles is experiencing some shifts in time. The Romulans are their usual boring, brooding selves while they try poking at everyone to learn about the Dominion. Meanwhile Miles is tortured by future events that do not play out well for him.

Visionary

The Romulans are here to get some info on the Dominion (in exchange for their ropey cloaking device). They're questioning everyone and deliberately getting Kira all riled up. Meanwhile, Miles keeps jumping ahead in time seeing varying degrees of awful things happen to his future self. It's one thing to see yourself in danger in a bar fight, but another to see your own corpse under a sheet! Bashir doesn't seem to be worried enough about what's happening and it's starting to irritate Miles. What's a chief to do but save the day and keep everyone else from being killed!

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 16 of Deep Space Nine: Prophet Motive. The Grand Nagus is back and so, obviously, is Wallace Shawn! When the Nagus acts uncharacteristically generous and kind, Quark and Rom try to figure out what's wrong with him before he gets them all killed.

Prophet Motive

The Nagus makes an unexpected appearance on the station and takes over Quark's quarters. This all seems quite normal until he presents the new rules of acquisition which seem to be the exact opposite of all of the existing rules! Give people their money back? Latinum tarnishes, but family is forever? What is happening!? Quark starts a quest to find out who or what broke his beloved greedy Nagus.

RBDS9 062 – Destiny (S3E15)27 Jun 202100:50:50
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Destiny

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 15 of Deep Space Nine: Destiny. A joint Cardassian/Bajoran/Starfleet scientific project results in a Bajoran vedek (played by Erick Avari) arriving at the station with a prophecy of doom and gloom. Sisko is pushed to consider his status as Emissary of the Prophets vs his official position as a Starfleet Officer.

Destiny

Some Cardassian scientists (played by Wendy Robie and 90s icon Tracy Scoggins) arrive at the station to work on a communications relay to pass sensor information through the wormhole. Meanwhile, Vedek Yarka drops by to let Sisko know that if he goes through with this project, the wormhole will be destroyed and the prophets will be lost to Bajor forever. No biggie. This situation forces Kira to face up to her views on Sisko as the Emissary and her position on faith vs duty.

Oh and we find that Miles continues to be irresistible to female scientists of all races. Insert eye roll emoji.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Heart of Stone

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 14 of Deep Space Nine: Heart of Stone. Kira and Odo get into serious trouble while on a field trip....uhh....I mean away mission. They get stranded on a moon orbiting a gas giant in the Badlands. Have we seriously not learned to avoid moons on this show!? Kira's life hangs in the balance as Odo tries desperately to save her. And we have a special guest appearance by Salome Jens as the scary founder woman.

Heart of Stone

We start out the episode with Kira inexplicably forgetting that Odo should be able to make his own decisions - so they have a little spat on the shuttle before chasing a Maquis fugitive to this dangerous moon. Down on the moon, they end up in big trouble when Kira gets her foot stuck in an expanding, indestructible crystal. Odo does everything he can to free her from the crystal and get off of this moon where nothing works as it should.

Meanwhile back on the station, Nog tries to bribe his way into Starfleet because he doesn't want to end up like his dad.

(And by the way she is looking radiant in white.) But boo....things are not looking good for Kira's boyfriend Vedek Bareil. He may be boring, but she loves him and we don't want Kira to suffer!

Life Support

Winn and Bareil are on their way to talks with the Cardassians in hopes of signing an historic peace treaty when their shuttle has a suspicious accident. Bareil is the only one seriously injured, putting the peace talks in jeopardy. Bashir does every thing he can to keep Bariel alive, including replacing parts of his brain (??? we can do that ???). Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Past Tense, Part II

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 12 of Deep Space Nine: Past Tense, Part II. In this episode, we are still in the past (2024)! And we have made a tremendous mess of history and screwed up our own timeline. Sisko, Bashir and Dax race to try and set history right while Kira and Miles somehow search all of history for them.

Past Tense, Part II

How to summarize these two episodes in a way that makes sense...It starts with Sisko taking the place of Gabriel Bell, a pivotal figure in history who Bashir accidentally got killed in part 1. Then in part 2, Dax, in her Steampunk outfit not making out with David Bowie, is climbing through the sewers and being stalked by Clint Howard while the Ghostbuster dude can't chill and the DMV employee depresses everyone. Got it? I mean this episode has a lot of stuff going on but basically Sisko saves the timeline and everyone is ok (except for the real Gabriel Bell).

Meanwhile, Miles and Kira are just beaming around in time (like it's nothing) trying to find their teammates.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Past Tense, Part I

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 11 of Deep Space Nine: Past Tense, Part I. In this episode, we get some time travel! W00t! Why do we love time travel so much in Star Trek? Cuz it's cool and it's fun and it's ridiculous. I mean come on, the team accidentally gets beamed into 2024! It's ridiculous! But it's also great! (Hey good news everyone, the pandemic appears to be over by then, so only a few more years!!)

Past Tense, Part I

Sisko, Bashir and Dax are somehow beamed into the past and get separated. Sisko and Bashir are ushered into a "sanctuary district" because they don't have identification and are unemployed. The sanctuary district is a bit like a gigantic DMV where people are being processed slowly and then released into the district. This results in a district full of people who have little or no hope for their futures. Basically there are no jobs and the community is also a dumping ground for people with untreated mental health issues. It's quite a mess! At the same time, Dax finds her way into the richer part of town and she's buying new clothes and going to parties!

Meanwhile, up on the Defiant (in the present/future), Miles, Kira and Odo are frantically trying to locate their teammates.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E18: 'Til Death Do Us Part. In this episode, Sisko takes a bold step against the prophets while Dukat plays on the ego of Kai Winn. Louise Fletcher returns as Kai Winn and Penny Johnson Jerald guest stars as Kasidy Yates.

'Til Death Do Us Part

While Worf and Ezri toil away in a jail cell, Sisko frets over his latest vision. Turns out the prophets aren't too keen on Sisko getting married and this has really irritated pretty much everyone (especially Kasidy). Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Fascination

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 10 of Deep Space Nine: Fascination. In this episode, Majel Barett returns as Lwaxana Troi to chase after Odo and generally cause havoc. Keiko is also back with Molly in tow and she is a little cranky. Why is someone always cranky on this show? It doesn't matter, because Dax's purple dress and Kira's killer bangs make up for the crankiness!

Fascination

Kira is hosting the Bajoran Gratitude Festival on the station and everyone is in a very jolly mood...well, until Lwaxana arrives to bother Odo and Keiko arrives in a sour mood. Kira is unusually happy and her boyfriend has arrived to make her even happier...well until he starts chasing after Dax. And Dax starts chasing after Sisko. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Defiant

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 9 of Deep Space Nine: Defiant. In this episode, we have a very special guest star in Jonathan Frakes...but it's a Jonathan Frakes with sideburns (that is a clue of something apparently)? Also in this episode, we have a very cranky over-worked Kira whose head is turned when Riker turns on his charm.

Defiant

Kira is having a bad day and is snapping at everyone. Bashir eventually decides she needs a vacation and orders her off duty and into Quark's for some "fun." While she's chilling at Quark's she meets (supposedly) William T. Riker from the Enterprise. They spend a fun evening together chatting and Kira is distracted by his charm and beauty....in fact...she's so distracted that she gives him access to the Defiant's systems...and whooops....shouldn't have done that, because this in fact is not Will Riker! And we are in for some big trouble.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Meridian

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 8 of Deep Space Nine: Meridian. In this episode, Dax falls for some guy (played by Brett Cullen) really quickly and decides to dump her entire life for him. And something gross happens with Kira that involves Star Trek fan favorite Jeffrey Combs. I don't wanna talk about it.

Meridian

While exploring a quiet system in the Gamma Quadrant, the Defiant and crew see an entire planet phase into existence in front of them. Turns out this planet and its inhabitants do this on a schedule. Good news, the inhabitants are very friendly and invite everyone down for dinner. Bad news, the phasing is deteriorating and at some point in the future they will all cease to exist! Good news, Dax has a boyfriend. Bad news, in a few days he's going to phase away for 60 years. Uh oh...

And then there's this Kira story...and...nope, I still don't want to talk about it.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Civil Defense

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 7 of Deep Space Nine: Civil Defense. This is a classic Star Trek episode where our crew is cut off from each other and has to work toward a common goal of saving the station. We do have to put up with Gul Dukat strutting his usual nonsense around Ops, but we also get some Garak which makes everything better.

Civil Defense

Bajoran workers are revolting and trying to take over the station! Wait a minute...that's not right. Actually, Miles triggers an old security program making the station think it's back in the old days of Cardassian control. Everybody is locked out of the computers pretty quickly and self destruct is imminent! But don't worry, Gul Dukat arrives to save the day....uhhh...yeah, that's not what happens. He arrives to gloat and clomp around in Ops like a pompous brontosaurus! But he gloats a little too quickly and gets trapped in the perilous situation as well. Who will save the day?

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Abandoned

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 6 of Deep Space Nine: The Abandoned. In this episode, Quark accidentally buys a baby (seems right) and Jake has an exceedingly booby older girlfriend. The fast-growing baby is the main story here, but we spend some time over-analyzing (ranting??) about Jake's much older girlfriend and whether or not Ferengi are taking advantage of poor jobless children from Bajor. Yeah, we go there...but really, tune in for Kim ranting about terrible people trying to explain women to her.

The Abandoned

Quark buys the salvage of a ship from the Gamma Quadrant and when he surveys his purchase, he's shocked to find a baby hidden away in the wreckage. Sisko has a brief happy moment of cooing at a baby, but that baby very quickly grows into a Jem'Hadar teenager. Against everyone's advice, Odo steps in to try and help the child understand the value of free will. What could go wrong?

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Second Skin

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 5 of Deep Space Nine: Second Skin. In yet another example of Cardassians picking our trusty crew off the station and torturing them, Kira gets trolled by the nasty lizard-like aliens. They've kidnapped her and spend the entire episode convincing here that she's actually been an undercover secret Cardassian spy all along. Come on! This is not nice! The only thing that could have made it worse is if Gul Dukat had shown up and drooled all over here strutting around like the dinosaur peacock that he is. Fortunately, we did not have to endure that horror show!

Second Skin

Good news...it's another Major Kira episode! Bad news...she is not going to have a good time. The Obisidian Order is playing mind games with our favorite major as they alter her to look like a Cardassian and then basically torture her for the entire episode. But because it's the Cardassians, all is not what it seems...maybe Major Kira isn't the target after all! At least Kira does make a new Cardassian friend in this episode and we get a little phaser play from Garak, so not all is bad. Tune in for our deep analysis of another good season 3 episode!

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Equilibrium

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 4 of Deep Space Nine: Equilibrium. Yay, it's a Dax episode! But yet again there is a whole part where she's asleep and the episode is taking place around her...why is that a theme with Dax episodes? Anyway, join us to discuss the intricacies of Trill life and the tall cool drink of water that is Dr. Renhol (played by Lisa Banes). She is cool, confident and very smooth....but ohhhh, she's hiding something! We also get some muscle flexing from Sisko as he plays fast and loose with a little thing called the Prime Directive. But really, is it a Star Trek episode if we're not fast and loose with the Prime Directive?

Equilibrium

Dax is a little cranky in this episode (taking over from Odo, obviously)! She accuses Sisko of cheating, she yells at everyone at dinner and she threatens to punch Kira...this is not good. But never fear, Dr. Bash-ear to the rescue! We jump in the Defiant and head to the Trill home world to figure out what's going on with our normally very steady science officer. And once we're there, we open a very big can of worms....almost literally!

Besides the big Trill secret we uncover, we also learn that Kim has finally found something relatable in Julian: a distaste for a particular root vegetable. Is it enough to turn this relationship around? Tune in and find out!

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The House of Quark

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 3 of Deep Space Nine: The House of Quark. In this episode we have Klingons, bad teeth, financial shenanigans, Gowran, a shotgun wedding and some surprisingly brave moves from Quark. Tune in for the 50th episode of our podcast!

The House of Querk? Quark?

In The House of Quark, Quark accidentally gets wrapped up in some Klingon drama when a Klingon dies an accidental death in his bar. After that, Quark suddenly finds himself on Kronos taking part in a shotgun wedding. He almost manages to get himself out of trouble until his brother Rom turns up....and really, nothing good happens for Quark when his brother is involved (and vice versa).

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Search, Part II

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 2 of Deep Space Nine: The Search, Part II! There are some shocking twists and turns in this episode and we are setup for a rocky future with the Dominion and the Jem'Hadar. Odo is a little less crabby in this episode, we still have Dax's heavy hair and we meet Borath...who, let's be honest, is very creepy.

The Search, Part II

In The Search, Part I our team starts a search for the Founders to tell them we want to be friends. They seem to have found them in The Search Part II...but maybe not in the way they think! Odo is hanging out with his relatives back on Goo Planet, spending his time turning into rocks and vultures. Meanwhile Kira is just trying to find a way to call home. Back on the station, the Federation has entered into a very suspicious treaty with the Dominion, but not all is as it seems. In fact, pretty much nothing is at seems!

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Search, Part I

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 of Deep Space Nine! Everyone out there waiting for us to get to the "good stuff," here we are! In this episode we meet the Defiant (finally) and we get some important costume upgrades (Odo has a belt???)! We also get some hair that we don't approve of...but let's just be clear, we don't have a lot of hair ourselves so too much hair scares us. We also meet a new head of security (what's his name) and there's a Romulan on the team! Whaaat!?

The Search, Part I

In The Search, Part I our team heads out in a cloaked Defiant to locate the Founders in the Gamma Quadrant. We just want to talk and tell them we come in peace...while flying around their territory in our warship. The messages are confusing, but this is our "plan". When some Jem'Hadar cockroach ships seem to detect our cloaked ship, we pretend like everything is fine and just keep going. Well the news is bad - they do know how to detect the Defiant and also how to disable it! Uh oh!

And maybe worst of all we endure the crankiest Odo we've ever seen. He is crabby, growly and not cooperative with the team...and frankly, he's a little scary. This is a two parter, so things don't end well for our heroes. What will happen next?

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Penumbra

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E17: Penumbra! In this episode Ezri and Worf do a lot of bickering and Sisko's mom appears in a vision with some very bad news. Deborah Lacey guest stars as Sarah Sisko.

Penumbra

Ezri manages to locate Worf's escape pod, but they almost immediately end up stranded alone on an uninhabited planet. Their bickering turns into a 90s soap opera just as the two of them are captured by some Breen soldiers. Meanwhile back on Cardassia Damar has finally sobered up long enough to realize he needs to get his act together. And on the station, Sarah Sisko and those jerky prophets are here to mess up Sisko's wedding plans.

Season 2 Wrap Up

Also, James makes his own rules and actually lists 12 episodes in his top 10...not sure how that works. And finally, we talk about our favorite guest stars and favorite performances of the season. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Jem'Hadar

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 26: The Jem'Hadar. Holy cow we have arrived at the season finale already! Have we really done 46 episodes of this podcast and 45 episodes of this show!? Yes, yes we have. And this episode, while maybe not a classic in every way, introduces us to a new villain and a whole new world (quadrant?) that is very scary.

The Jem'Hadar

In The Jem'Hadar, Sisko, Jake, Nog and Quark go on a camping trip in the Gamma Quadrant. And it pretty much goes how you might expect...Sisko is cooking jambalaya, Jake and Nog are having fun and Quark is complaining endlessly. Check. But everything goes south we are introduced to our first Vorta and our first Jem'Hadar. The scary Jem'Hadar are not amused by the alpha quadrant folks invading their territory and they're here to make that point very strongly. Uh oh.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Tribunal

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 25: Tribunal. Miles is in trouble again when the Cardassians arrest him and put him on trial! Poor Miles, it's as if suffering is his lot in life. Join us as we discuss one of the darkest episodes so far...and by dark, we mean turn on some lights people! Even finding a usable image of this episode was tough because the Cardassians do not like lights. Regardless of the lack of illumination, we get some great guest stars in Miles' public defendant Kovat, played by Fritz Weaver and Makbar the judge played by Caroline Lagerfelt.

Cardassian Tribunals are fun!

Miles is trying to take a vacation (that's his first mistake) when the Cardassians intercept his ship and arrest him. When the crew finds out, they fly into action to figure out what Miles could be charged with. But they're racing against the clock as his execution date is already set. In this episode we have some severe hair, Cardassian reality television, an uncomfortable make-out scene and a killer mustache. I mean come on...how can you not listen?
