| Guitar Stores | 03 Apr 2021 | 00:36:11 | |
In this special episode, LG calls sales associates at a major guitar and gear big box store (who shall remain nameless) because this particular store chain has a bit of a reputation for intimidating beginner guitarists, talking down to women and girls, and flexing their knowledge instead of exciting folks about beginning their journey, so LG checks in to see the state of things in these types of stores. | Sex on the Road | 22 Jan 2021 | 00:51:12

| Tracy Wormworth - Part 1 | 07 Jan 2021 | 00:30:22 | |
Bassist Tracy Wormworth of The Waitresses and The B-52's has a music journey that is a story of being at the right place at the right time, and having the talent and drive to meet each new adventure (though she says she was mostly fueled by the fearlessness of youth and general foolhardiness). Tracy picked up the bass at age 18, and started out playing fusion/electric jazz in NYC at places like CBGB and The Knitting Factory in the late 70s/early 80s. Then one day, when she was walking down the street with her bass she was asked to audition for The Waitresses and that's when she says Punk and New Wave found her. | Cary Ann Hearst - Part 1 | 12 Nov 2020 | 00:38:52
Cary Ann Hearst of the band Shovels and Rope is a folk/rock musician from South Carolina. In part one of this episode, host LG asks Cary about being in a band with her husband, touring with her kids, the impact of diversity and inclusivity when booking her festival, the relief of getting the current administration out of the White House, and appreciating that victory while looking ahead to the work it will take to rebound from having an openly misogynist racist in office. This episode was recorded on the day the election was called for Biden/Harris, so if you need a celebratory good time of an episode, this one is for you. Jessica Lea Mayfield is an alt-rock/country singer-songwriter from Kent, Ohio (with musical roots in Nashville) who resides in an RV in Los Angeles where she is recording and self-producing her next album - which is a pretty familiar setting for her. Jessica grew up on a tour bus (with a family full of musicians) and spent her youth writing music and homeschooling herself. She has collaborated and toured with big names and is a headliner, as well. In part one of this episode, LG and Jessica chat about their mutual, self-described "white trash" upbringing, their shared passion for DIY recording, owning their down-to-earth identities, and more. LG interviews Christine Lilyea, proprietor of Slash Run in Washington, D.C., on the topic of small music venues in the U.S. that are facing closures and financial troubles, the importance of rallying behind the venues we love, and the reasons for saving them. Christine talks about adapting during the pandemic and how her venue has been able to do so without laying off a single employee in the process. This episode features live music and stage banter from Thelma and the Sleaze to remind us all of the value of saving these cultural beacons for a post-corona world. | Kate the Dancer | 01 Oct 2020 | 00:30:27
Fun episode alert! This week, host LG talks with her friend Kate, a professional dancer who joined her on stage to perform last year during the first leg of the tour with her rock band Thelma and the Sleaze. If you know LG, you know she has intense admiration and respect for dancers and is an advocate who strongly believes in removing the negative stigma from all sex workers. In this episode, they discuss their tour together (and the viral video they created), the similarities of rockers and dancers, the safety conditions and the physical and emotional labor involved with being a dancer, the new frontier of the online strip club, the social media dancer renaissance (and their videos that got flagged for music licensing issues), and some stories from the stage, including Kate incorporating comedy into her performance.
