| Episode 3: September 2024 Announcements with Brandon Upson | 02 Sep 2024 | 01:25:00 | |
THE Brandon Upson made time to join us for episode 3. Brandon, in addition to being one of the original VS team and co-founder of the archive, currently is an in-house restoration artist and the lead scanning technician. The man can do it all, and his passion for film shines through this entire episode. We cover the 5 films released over 3 mainline releases: Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf, The Cruel Brittania set which includes Crucible of Terror, Penny Gold, and Craze, plus Lamberto Bava's Delirium! Outside of the mainline titles we also got to hear about the unedited version of Eye for and Eye they released, A large budget Gialli-esque visual feast starring Audrey Hepburn and Omar Sharif in Bloodline, plus the singular and trendsetting Go Fish. Another strong month all around including two very strong Fukasaku movies through one of their partners Film Movement.
| Episode 2: July 2024 Releases! | 15 Aug 2024 | 01:17:53 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 2 brings back a prehistoric monster, some prehistoric torture, and some histrionic punks. We find out if Demme will stop making sense, give our blood to the cult of genre cinema, and discover the identity of a true macho woman! No Polish police force can stop us, we're using all Eight Eyes to tackle Vinegar Syndrome's July release slate. I hope you enjoy!
| Episode 1: August 2024 Announcements with Kurtis Spieler | 02 Aug 2024 | 01:18:58 | |
We're live! Kurtis Spieler was kind enough to join for our first episode. He is a restoration specialist at Vinegar Syndrome and is a filmmaker himself. Most importantly, a great guy who obviously loves all different types of movies and can switch between Cat-III and Robert Altman without missing a beat. We covered all 7 of the August announcements, Chinese Torture Chamber Story, They Call Me Macho Woman, and the Ozploitation classic, Body Melt.

| Episode 4 - August 2024 Releases with Justin LaLiberty | 15 Sep 2024 | 01:27:20 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 4 brings in Justin LaLiberty to help us break down the August releases. This month gives us adults that don’t speak the way humans speak while being hunted by creepy kids, the best example of why women live longer than men ever filmed, and a very bloody bath. We see a father and son martial arts duo for the ages, and Garfield in a whole new light. We see not one but two criminal road trip films that don’t go to plan, and we even have a new segment! I’m delighted that Celeste de la Cabra has agreed to come in and host a monthly deep-dive into the hardcore titles coming from Mélusine, Distribpix, and all their sister labels. Justin also joins Celeste for the kickoff of the adult part of the podcast. We continue to build Punk Vacation into a community event, please let me know what I can do differently or better, or anything you enjoy and want to hear more. Cheers!
| Episode 5 - October 2024 Announcements with Jaden Christopher | 04 Oct 2024 | 01:56:05 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 5 truly connects us with the VS community. Jaden Christopher joins to talk about the VS Discord and his journey down into the dark surreal alleys of Vinegar Syndrome horror. We cover announcements from October 1st and spend time at the end highlighting five horror titles from the catalog that are good for the season. Spend time as we dance with ghosts, find new roommates, discuss one of the craziest and most interesting CAT-III directors, find a Bond girl in the announcements, take a look into the future as it was predicted in 1987, debate whether or not to take sweets from a stranger, plus two very exciting VSAs and an all-timer from Cinematographe. Ryan and Jeremy join to cover new merch for the month as well. The community is growing! Thank you all listening, following on IG, and to everyone who has reached out to say hi online. | Episode 6 - Unas Vacaciones Punk - September 2024 Releases with Armando and Joey from Trash-Mex Podcast | 20 Oct 2024 | 02:00:25
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 6 was a great conversation with two humble giants of film history. Armando and Joey joined from Trash Mex Podcast. They are amazing ambassadors of Mexican cinema who spend a lot of time booking screenings and writing and promoting the movies they love. We introduce Armando and Joey, review the VS films from Mexico, and cover the September releases from the mainline as well as VSA, VSL, and Distribpix. One thing different, and I hope fun, that we tried was to come up with a double feature of each of the VS releases. The theme of the double feature is a movie from Mexico with a similar theme or plot. For easy reference, here are the double features that were chosen: Howling II - Colmillos, el hombro lobo by Rene Cardona III (1993) Cruel Brittania- Hector Shayne (Multiple movies and TV shows) - Mujeres de media noche (1990) - La muerte del chacal (1984) Eye for an Eye - Navajeros (1980) - Pistoleros Famosos (1981) - El Fiscal de hierra (1989) Blonde on a Bum Trip - Los desvergonzados (1962) I also have to thank Celeste de la Cabra who is now officially embedded as a segment host that pays homage to The Smiths while covering the hardcore titles from VS when they have more. The community is growing! Thank you all listening, following on IG, and to everyone who has reached out to say hi online.
| Episode 8 - October 2024 Releases with Sam Dunkley | 19 Nov 2024 | 02:05:25 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 8 introduces Punk Vacation to another great content creator and rabid fan, Sam Dunkley. He watches, discusses, and produces reviews on filmbloggersam and Let's Watch Two, and imports way more VS to the UK then he ever intended. We're also lucky enough to have Celeste back to discuss the most elaborate and artistic adult films ever made. We dance around the possible sensitivities of a Native American slasher, become a tenant in Polanski's vision of immigrants in Paris, decompose into one of the most egregious of taboos, feel forgotten as we unwrap a Mystere, flirt with Obsession, and learn not to take candy from a stranger. The Archive line has two titles this month, Weird Science in Montreal and a possessed beeper in a remote vacation villa. After all of this goodness we come to my favorite release of the month. William Castle's ode to puppetry, mimes, and the dark side of the performing arts. | Episode 7 - November 2024 Announcements with Oscar Becher | 03 Nov 2024 | 01:40:29
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 7 brought back another important member of the Vinegar Syndrome staff. Oscar Becher is the vault manager and archivist and has been on the VS team for about 3 1/2 years. In addition to going over the November announcements, we talk about the different ways Oscar gets involved in releases, who convinced him to sing for the Cannibal! promo, and get some idea of the size of the actual archive that started Vinegar Syndrome.
| Episode 11 - The Black Tar Heroin Effect | 21 Jan 2025 | 03:52:37 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 11 we meet Sam. That's the only name you need. Like Emanuelle or Madonna, Sam is a force in entertainment and most recently the genre film community. He's toured as a musician, done a good amount of voiceover work, has interviewed some amazing filmmakers in his own work, has been on a growing number of commentaries, has a podcast and a videocast, and is a like-minded personality so I knew I needed to get him on the kickoff 2025. Most of his work is centered through his branding of bandsaboutmovies. I'll link below. Sam's energy for Vinegar Syndrome is infectious. He loves underseen or underappreciated movies and is a firm believer that every completed movie is a miracle. We talk about the Black Friday releases for VS Mainline and every Sublabel including the April Fools Day surprise. It's a longer episode, but if you listen to Sam you'll understand why. We wrestle with the why behind the appeal of Vinegar Syndrome, where they are headed as a company, and what draws us to movies in the first place. Starting on Feb 1 we'll get back to the usual schedule and mid February I hope to have a special porn-themed Valentine's Day episode with a guest I'm very excited about. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better! https://bandsaboutmovies.com/
| Episode 10 - 2024 End of Year Extravaganza | 17 Dec 2024 | 02:46:08 | |
We did it y'all. 10 episodes in and we're still growing solidly with each one. Thank you to everyone who has listened to any of the episodes, and please seek me out if you've listened to all of them so I can thank you personally. We wouldn't look this good without the amazing art of Adam Danbury (https://www.adamdanbury.com/film). We wouldn't sound this good without the regular segments from Celeste de la Cabra discussing the hardcore titles and Ryan and Jeremy wading through the merch jungle. And a special shoutout to Holly who inspired the convincing Holly segment. For the final episode of 2024 I thought we would mix it up a little bit and throw a whole ass interview in the middle. I was toying with the idea, but when schedules worked out to record with the Richard Baylor I knew it was meant to be. His interview starts right around the 1 hour mark if that's what you came to hear. But even before all of that I am very excited that David, or Professor Gascan, was able to join for what I hope is an annual segment. The man watches over 1,000 movies a year and has had an active blog since 2010. His knowledge of movies from every genre shines in this conversation, I'm excited for people to get to here it. Taking us home was a longer segment where I actually get to sit down with Celeste and talk about the hardcore titles as well as some of the origin of her getting involved in the podcast to begin with. I'll include some links below, but honestly just a huge thank you to anyone who has spent any time with Punk Vacation. 2025 will continue to have some exciting names from the VS team, some historians, critics, and hopefully some more filmmakers. | Episode 9 - Partner Month Special Episode with Heather Drain | 05 Dec 2024 | 02:04:13
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 9 introduces Punk Vacation to one of the leading writers of esoteric and outre cinema, Heather Drain. We get to know Heather's and, in addition to so many titles she has worked on at Vinegar Syndrome, we get to speak about her amazing opportunity to collaborate with Umbrella on the recent Caligula mega-boxset. Heather's passion for all movies shines through, and I hope she continues to get lots of work at Vinegar Syndrome going forward. In addition to Heather we have a pop-in from Erica Shultz who has two releases she's featured on this month and then end with a pirate themed Merch Mates. Thanks all who have listened so far, and welcome to anyone who's joining for the first time! Links for Heather: https://linktree.com/mondoheather
| Episode 13 - A Hardcore Valentine's | 18 Feb 2025 | 02:48:37 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 13 we mix it up a little bit and bring the hardcore titles front and center in a 90-minute segment with co-host Celeste de la Cabra and adult film expert, writer, and curator Eli Olsberg. We (but mostly they) cover the porn titles from November and December as well as a handy starter guide to dipping your toes into the Vinegar Syndrome adult film waters. From there Eli and I cover most of the January releases in depth, and spend longer than we should gushing about what a pleasant surprise Deranged was. It's really good. The first half of the year is already shaping up nicely with some Vinegar Syndrome employees who are coming on in April and May and some special feature experts lining up in between. Thank you to anyone who listens to even five minutes of this. It means a lot and please don't be shy to tell me if there's something more / less / different you want to see.
| Episode 12 - February Announcements | 07 Feb 2025 | 01:02:44 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 12 we cover the announcements from February 1st. The episode covers two lifetime TV directors that made a memorable splash with their feature films. It also covers an absolute stone cold genre legend who is getting one of his two cannibal films out. Between Cannibal! the Musical and the one this month it is cannibal season at VS. Outside of the main line we see two Cinematographe releases that are both female directed and written movies about navigating sexual awakenings. And a Jodorowsky-lite director from Mexico getting a stunning release of one of his classic films. Not to be outdone, the OCN releases this month are stellar. Abel Ferrara, Tsai Ming-liang, Tai Kato, Radu Jude, on and on with movies that would sell out at any arthouse theater. Ryan and Jeremy are back with a quick hitting merch mates segment, and convincing Holly is back in rotation this month. Looking forward to getting guests back in the booth on the 15th where we will have a Valentine's special. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better!
| Episode 14 - March Announcements and Eugenio Ercolani | 03 Mar 2025 | 02:37:08 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 14 we cover the announcements from March 1st along with one of the absolute legends of critical thinking and special feature work around Italian cinema, Eugenio Ercolani. Eugenio has established himself within Vinegar Syndrome as an Italian expert and produces the special features for entire releases on several of their recent films. He has four movies that he has helped produce in March so it was perfect timing to have him on to help me go through all of the new releases. In the episode we cover a wide range of topics from Fernando di Leo to Federico Fellini to the interrelationship between genre and arthouse cinema in Italy. It's a history lesson, a dive into the culture of Italy around the time these movies were produced, and amazing insights from someone who not only studies Italian cinema but lived it and has been around it his entire life. Mid month we will review the February releases with another one of the key producers from Vinegar Syndrome. It will be a first time guest on Punk Vacation and it is also one of the world leading experts on slashers. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better!
| Episode 16 - Kurtis Spieler is back! to talk about April releases | 03 Apr 2025 | 01:06:17 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 16 I am joined by Kurtis Spieler, restoration specialist at Vinegar Syndrome. We discuss the April titles, Vinegar Syndrome's 500th release, and get a glimpse into how many hours are put into an excellent restoration. Celeste de la Cabra is also back to discuss the hardcore titles in her recurring segment. If timing works out we'll be lucky enough to have her twice this month so fingers crossed. Coming up next I hope we're able to secure time with a gooey, splooshy director that helmed one of the recent controversial VSP releases. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better!
| Episode 15 - Slashers! and February Releases with Ewan Cant | 19 Mar 2025 | 01:30:15 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 15 I am joined by Ewan Cant, the Associate Director of content, acquisition, and licensing at Vinegar Syndrome. We discuss the underrated February releases and spend a good amount of time talking about Ewan's love for unique slashers. Before working at VS, Ewan worked at Arrow in a similar role. He is the producer behind iconic releases throughout his whole career, and at VS recently has put out Iced, Blood Tracks, Ghost Dance, and Mother's Day. Coming up next we see the return of our very first guest, the manager of media and special features at Vinegar Syndrome. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better!
| Episode 17 - Street Trash! A Conversation with Ryan Kruger plus Eli Oslberg | 17 Apr 2025 | 03:47:53 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 17, Eli is back! to cover March releases with me and more Melusine titles with Celeste. We are lucky to get an extended session with Celeste that catches us up all the way to last months Melusine titles. And not to bury the lede, but I am thrilled to also be able to sit down with Ryan Kruger, an extremely prolific music video and shorts director internationally who has recently been given the opportunity to dip into features. We discuss Fried Barry as well as his VSP release of the Street Trash reimagining. He was humble and came across as just another film geek, I really loved the discussion. Thank you Ryan! Coming up in May we have an OCN partner discussion with one of the worlds leading SOV authorities and mid month we are close to finalizing time with one of the VS team members that has not given an interview as part of the VS family. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better!
| Episode 18 - May announcements with Oscar Becher, plus Ross Snyder and 15 Minutes With You | 03 May 2025 | 02:07:25 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 18 I am joined by Oscar Becher, Archivist and Vault Manager at Vinegar Syndrome. We discuss around half of the May announcements that are part of the halfway to black friday flash pre-order, discuss why these were all ambitious projects for different reasons, and get to hear Oscar's passion for his first official producer credit. Ross Snyder from Saturn's Core comes on next and gives us some insight into what drives him and why he is so excited to release You Are Alone on his label. 15 Minutes With You is back for the third episode in a row as Celeste gets us almost current with the Mélusine titles from 2025. Coming up next, I am trying hard to secure 3 more episodes in May including the biggest VS fan in the Nordics, an encyclopedia of exploitation, and a VS employee who would be doing her first interview since she joined full time. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better!
| Episode 19 - Special Features Producer Claudia Pretelin | 19 May 2025 | 00:50:35 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 19 I am joined by Special Features Producer extraordinaire, Claudia Pretelin! Claudia is a fascinating person. She is an international art curator, has worked with some very innovative contemporary artists such as Gary Baseman, and approaches disc production through the lens of wanting to know everything about the movie she just watched. I really enjoyed this interview, and I'm proud to share with everyone that gets to hear from one of the most recent impressive people VS has brought onto their team. I am trying hard to secure 2 more episodes in May including the biggest VS fan in the Nordics and an encyclopedia of exploitation. I hope to have these two up in special episodes around the Halfway to Black Friday sale. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better! https://instrumentsofmemory.com/tag/claudia-pretelin/
| Episode 22 - Love, Hate, and Incest: A Vinegar Syndrome Roundtable | 16 Jun 2025 | 02:49:44 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 22 we are joined by a fantastic group of panelists to attempt a roundtable discussion and figure out what Vinegar Syndrome is in 2025. I did my best to find a diverse set of interests and backgrounds for the show, but this is very much meant as an open discussion and I would love to hear from anyone! The structure of the episode basically breaks down into three parts: First hour (roughly) is a VS lovefest and we all share our favorite titles and there are probably 50 movie recommendations from the panel. Second portion we attempt to define what VS was, is today, and how OCN fits in. Finally, we sandwich this orgy of hot takes with a round of final thoughts. Not to add spoilers, but we end up discussion why we love this label with warts and all. Panelists include: Robert and Matt from Grindhouse Chic. Robert has been a subscriber since their first year of offering, and generally a fan since the beginning. Matt is an oldhead collector who has recently discovered VS and is in the middle of peak deep-dive. https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/grindhouse-chic/id1776304564 Jaden Christopher, returning from Episode 5. He has started a new podcast as well, Podgoblins, and I was excited to bring him on with his infectious energy for the large studio titles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjhVE4SwMeM Rounding out is third time co-host Eli Olsberg. Eli is an accomplished comedian but also hosts a softcore night once a month at the Pussycat Theater in Los Angeles and is about to start a hardcore night with Bat P*ssy and Gums as a double bill. https://www.instagram.com/p/DKxdTKaBh5L/ July I'm still figuring out! They have that subscriber week deal and then Celeste and I need to catch up on dozens of movies between VS and Melusine. It will be a busy month! Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better!
| Episode 21 - Kakabakaba ka ba? With Pearl from Kani! | 04 Jun 2025 | 01:39:41 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 21 we look at the OCN announcements in June for partner month. Pearl Chan, one of the co-founders of Kani Releasing, was a surprise guest and joined to help me gush about the wonderful work Kani is doing as I highlighted their label. To close us out Ryan and Jeremy rejoin for Merch Mates. It's a packed 97 minutes! I have a movie crush on Ariel and Pearl from Kani, I love the work they're doing very much. As I was recording on the 1st I had an idea to reach out to see if they could join last minute, and Pearl could which was great! So the episode is split into me talking about the label and then an interview. Mid June we have something a little different. I am going to try and have a proper panel discussion with a mix of old-time VS heads as well as some new recruits that love the studio titles. We'll see if we can crack the identity of VS in 2025. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better! https://www.kani-releasing.com/
| Episode 20 - From Finland! with Ville Lähde | 25 May 2025 | 00:53:08 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 20 we get to chat with the unofficial Vinegar Syndrome rep from Finland, Ville Lähde. Wille is the best, his YouTube channel @videotalkvideospace is a cornucopia of physical media discussion and unboxing, with a focus on VS and the wilder side of cinema. The dude has over 3,000 VHS tapes and is an encyclopedia of genre and exploitation cinema. He brings passion to each discussion, and is always very honest about what he likes and doesn't like. We cover the H2BF announcements as well as the April releases. Coming up next is June, the partner month. I am working on finalizing a different partner label to help with the announcements around the 1st as well as a label focus mid month. Thank you for those who continue to listen and please let me know how I can make this better! https://videospace.fi/ https://www.youtube.com/@VideoTalkVideospace
| Episode 23 - Is it Giallo? With Sam Panico | 16 Jul 2025 | 02:35:34 | |
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 23 we welcome back Sam Panico who can now say he is a contributor to a VS release! In addition to his look into 5 Dead on the Crimson Canvas, Sam is a frequent collaborator with Visual Vengeance, has his own podcast bandsaboutmovies and co-hosts a YT show called Drive-In Asylum. You'll hear this in the episode, but Sam has a deep knowledge of exploitation and low-budget cinema and a great sense of humor. I'm honored to have him on as a repeat guest now! We end the episode by welcoming Celeste back from a well-earned break. She has a lot to cover and catches us up on the Mélusine releases through April. I'm very much looking forward to August! In addition to the regular coverage, we should be able to take a deeper dive into the Hong Kong side of VS. See y'all soon! | Episode 24 - Celebrating a full Year of PV! With Celeste de la Cabra | 20 Aug 2025 | 01:29:34
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 24, Celeste de la Cabra and I reflect back on the crazy first year of Punk Vacation! We do go over August announcements as well, and we end the episode with Celeste doing a great job during the next installment of 15 Minutes With You. I want to say thank you to every guest, co-host, and champion of fringe creativity that has come along and supported the Punk Vacation journey this year. I am constantly humbled by the folks who say yes and how enthusiastic everyone has been to join. I still hope to be able to squeeze in a HK focused episode this month, but it's possible it slips to early September. Either way, looking forward to a fun Season 2 of Punk Vacation! Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 25, Eli comes back to help break down September announcements and we geek out over the new Pinku line from VS. Celeste brings us home with another 15 minutes of you where they catch us up to being current for the year. I titled the episode this way because of the conversation we had around the crazy titles that exist within the pinku subgenre. First episode of Season 2 was fun with Eli and his opinions and knowledge are a great addition as always. | Episode 28 - A Massive Film Archive: A Conversation with Joe Rubin and Oscar Becher | 01 Nov 2025 | 01:44:39
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 28, We were lucky to be able to sit down with Joe, one of the co-founders of Vinegar Syndrome, as well as three-time VS champion podcaster Oscar Becher. He wants to always stay at least one episode ahead of Kurtis. Joe and Oscar were extremely candid, as always, and have the old married couple routine nailed down perfectly. They had Eli and I cracking up off mic by fighting over everything from squeaky chairs to what to say and how to respond properly. They are a great interview and it's immediately obvious how passionate they are about preservation. I hope you enjoy this! It's a longtime coming and I'm really happy with how it turned out. | Episode 27 - Sleazy and Repellent: The VS Back Catalog Horror Episode | 28 Oct 2025 | 02:13:53
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 27, Eli, Chris, and Celeste walk through a tour of some VS horror that cannot be forgotten. Going all the way back to some of the first 15 releases, we call out some horror that is worth revisiting during the next sale or maybe streaming if its sold out. We end by going over the August releases and should be caught up by mid November. This was a really fun one and I hope everyone either discovers some older titles or screams at us for forgetting an obvious favorite. This episode more than most, please try to find us online and let us know if there are other canonical VS titles we missed. | Episode 29 - Creation of a Closed Circle Family: Austin Jennings Director of Eight Eyes and Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs | 22 Nov 2025 | 02:47:15
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 29, We were lucky to be able to sit down with Austin Jennings, Director of Eight Eyes which got a VSP release. We also review the September and October releases from the mainline plus subs. Off the top I just have to say, holy shit, Austin was an incredible interview. His day job is being a co-founder and director of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, so he has had a lot of experience editing and writing and preparing for a film. But the way he breaks down his intent behind Eight Eyes, how he approached it from a technical perspective ... this turned into an accidental audio commentary. It was truly a pleasure to speak to someone like Austin who is a student of the medium, and it seems like he may come back just to geek out about VS which we're excited by. The episode around Austin is Eli and I geeking out about the strong months from VS. I think this one turned out well, Austin's interview starts around the 50-minute mark if you want to get right to it. Eli can be found on most socials @eliolsberg and you can follow him to make sure you see his next porno night screening around LA or catch his standup second Tuesday of every month at the Pleasure Chest. Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 30, we celebrate Eli's first booking on the show with one of the coolest people in the business. Bret Berg, Director of Theatrical Sales for AGFA. Bret is the guy behind the guy for theatrical distribution of almost every boutique label on your shelf, and it's a conversation I really loved. He talks about AGFA's mission, Museum of Home Video, some of the new OCN titles, and a fantastic background into The Movie Orgy. Bret was a perfect guest, and Celeste and Eli catch us up on the Melusine titles with an extended version of 15 Minutes With You. Hope you enjoy the slightly longer episode! In addition to being employee #1 at Vinegar Syndrome, Brandon is the Lead scanning technician, Restoration Artist, and director / producer of the newly announced Iconoscope sublabel. It's clear Brandon loves movies, and throughout this interview I believe his passion for restoring and releasing so many movies every month. | Episode 31 - 2025 End of Year Extravaganza | 29 Dec 2025 | 02:44:46
We did it y'all. 30 episodes in our second Christmas together. Thank you to everyone who has listened to any of the episodes, and please seek us out if there is anything you want to hear more about. We wouldn't look this good without the amazing art of Adam Danbury (https://www.adamdanbury.com/film). We wouldn't sound this good without the regular segments from Celeste de la Cabra discussing the hardcore titles and all of the guest who add depth and weight to our discussions. For the final episode of 2025 we are bringing back Prof, or David. The man watches over 1,000 movies a year and has had an active blog since 2010. We discuss the year overall with one of VS's most tenured supporters. Stick around after the discussion with David as we may have a holiday themed bonus that's worth a few extra listening calories. I'll include some links below, but honestly just a huge thank you to anyone who has spent any time with Punk Vacation. 2026 will continue to have some exciting names from the VS team, some historians, critics, and hopefully some more filmmakers. | Episode 34 - Black Friday Releases with Jay from A Fistful of Horrors | 26 Jan 2026 | 01:52:04
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 34 we welcome one of the giants of horror on IG, Jay Blake from A Fistful of Horrors. Jay is many things to the community of horror lovers online, but he is also complete on the VS mainline dating all the way back their initial Indiegogo campaign. I don't know whether to call him the Daiseke Beppu of horror and exploitation, or perhaps the Mr Rogers, whatever it is Jay is extremely knowledgeable but also just really damn nice. He loves what he does and I think it shows as he talks about his life and work. We run through every mainline and sublabel release from November, and recommend our favorite OCN from the month as well. We will be back in early February to discuss the new announcements with the king of announcements, Ryan Verrill from Disc-Connected and now Antenna releasing. Thank you to everyone who listens, and find us on the VS Discord if you want to chat. Also, Instagram at punkvacation_podcast. | Episode 35 - February Announcements With THE Ryan Verrill | 06 Feb 2026 | 02:03:07
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 35 we finally sit down with the esteemed stepfather of the boutique physical media community, the most connected man on the internet, and future playgirl model, Ryan Verrill. In addition to the incredible community Ryan has built with the Disc-Connected, the podcast network and special features consortium he has established and grown with Someone's Favorite Productions, Ryan has also recently launched the longtime stealth project, Antenna Releasing. Ryan is the type of guy that you want to be successful. He loves movies and loves promoting them and has been a champion of preservation for as long as he has had a platform. His depth and breadth of knowledge is on full display as we go through the February announcements of mainline, sublabels, OCN, and Melusine. But before we dive in to that we get a deep dive into Antenna Releasing, a filmmaker-forward film distribution and physical media publishing house. It's a venture that has been a long time in the making, and Ryan gives us insights into the first theatrical release, Stolen Kindgom, and the timeline he has for the rest of the lines underneath the Antenna umbrella. It was a great conversation and I wish Ryan tremendous success at every step. We are going to try something a little different in February with Punk Vacation. We have a 2-parter coming out for the Black Friday and then January Melusine titles, and Part 2 will coinicide with the V-day announcements to be able to discuss those. We will also try to fit in a discussion on the January titles, but not sure how to fit it in at the moment. Either way we'll see you a lot in the month of love! Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 33 we are going to try something slightly different. Eli and Chris recorded an extended "15 Minutes With You" segment live on Celeste's YT channel back in December and we are going to use that as Part 1 of a 2-Part Valentine's Day Melusine special. Both Valentine's Day episodes will focus on the Melusine side of the house, and next week we will be back to also discuss what drops on the V-Day announcements. We are still tring to fit in a discussion on the January titles, but not sure how to fit it in at the moment. Either way, see you next week during the month of love! In Episode 37, Eli and Chris are back for Part 2 of the Valentine's Day special of Celeste's world famous "15 Minutes With You" segment. This will also be available on Celeste's YT channel if you want to see the video. Celeste can now say they are done with 2025. Jan and Feb titles will be featured on upcoming episodes of 15 Minutes With You. Also, huge congrats to Celeste who recently was finally able to publicize her work as a film critic for Deaf Crocodile's release of Hair High. Okay, so what's next. | Episode 36 - Alex Phillips, Director/Writer of New VSP Anything That Moves plus Jan Titles | 27 Feb 2026 | 02:38:45
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 36 we are fortunate to be able to sit down with one of the most exciting new voices in exploitation and horror, Alex Phillips. This dude loves genre movies, and we dig into All Jacked Up and Full of Worms and his new feature, Anything That Moves. I think everyone will enjoy hearing from this creative and darkly funny filmmaker. He gave us almost an hour, which was more than we were expecting. But it's a great look into independent hustle and an attitude of just-get-it-done. Eli and Chris stick around after Alex leaves and review the January titles, and largely agree Jan was a great month to kick off 2026. Up next will be the March announcements and then a separate episode that is the second half of our Valentine's Melusine special. | Episode 38 - March Releases with Brian Saur of Pure Cinema Podcast & Just the Discs + Reviver w/Oscar Becher | 12 Mar 2026 | 02:30:11
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Before kicking off episode 38, we've unearthed a lost discussion from the Punk Vacation archives, restored for your listening pleasure: Chris and Eli are joined by the lead archivist from Vinegar Syndrome, Oscar Becher, to talk about the second release from his new sublabel, Reviver! Like the releases themselves, we won't spoil anything here, you'll have to listen to find out what we talk about! Then, we return to our regularly schedule programming and we're delighted to be joined by friend and supporter of the show, Brian Saur, co-host of the Pure Cinema Podcast and Just the Discs! Brian has been covering VS and partner releases since the label first hit the scene, so it was a lot of fun to talk about early titles that caught his attention and he helps us go through all the March announcements on the mainline, sublabels, and some OCN partner releases. If you aren't already listening to the Pure Cinema Podcast and Just the Discs, we highly recommend both for some great discussions on film with a real emphasis on discovery! | Episode 39 - VSP Director Kansas Bowling and February Releases | 20 Mar 2026 | 02:50:14
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 39 Eli and I cover the Feburary announcements and determine if this Feb was better than last years. But before all of that, we are joined by one of the most exciting young filmmakers in the US, Kansas Bowling. I dare you to find anyone under 30 who loves film and loves talking about film as much as Kansas. She's obsessed, and her obsession naturally translates into a rich vocabulary of directors and movements and subgenres and microgenres. She is here to discuss her latest feature, Cuddly Toys, that recently got a VSP release. But, neither Eli or I knew we would be speaking with a true film historian and scholar. Kansas was awesome. In addition to discussing her love of Altman, Orson Welles, and many other canonical directors, we also get into her love of St. Jesus Franco. She casually drops F For Fake as a major influence on Cuddly Toys, and gives us a glimpse into what's coming up for her next. Everyone support Cuddly Toys, either with the disc, in one of the upcoming theatrical screenings, or the eventual streaming option. We will be back around the first of April to discuss the months announcements and a surprise Macabre announcement that has promotions on top of promotions. Thank you to everyone who listens and please let us know how we can make the show better. Always listening! | Episode 40 - April Announcements with VS Subtitle Editor and Copywriter Dino Proserpio | 05 Apr 2026 | 02:55:05
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 40 is one of the most in-depth and interesting conversations Punk Vacation has had on the language of physical media. That is not meant metaphorically, literally the subtitling and the importance of language and copywriting. Dino Proserpio does most of the subtitling work for VS and a lot of the copywriting. He's a polyglot and film historian, and was a fantastic interview. Eli and Chris both spend 3 hours geeking out with Dino, and he will be coming back as a guest when he is ready for it. He casually covers topics like how Rad is responsible for the creation of sublabels at VS, the amount of work that goes into restoration and how there is a science behind subtitling. I learned a lot from hearing him speak and I hope you all do too. We will be back mid April to discuss the March titles in depth. If you want to watch along we will cover Office Killer, Massacre, Forgotten Gialli Vol 9, Badge 373, Cuddly Toys, Unmasked Part 25, Intensive Care, and Reviver 2. Thank you to everyone who listens and please let us know how we can make the show better. Always listening! | Episode 41 - The inimitable Scooter McCrae and March Releases | 24 Apr 2026 | 03:47:58
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 41 is Eli and I covering March titles in depth but most importantly it is sitting down with one of our heroes. Moviemaker, raconteur, philosopher, and now available on Shudder, Scooter McCrae joined Punk Vacation. Scooter is the actual best. Get this man into any discussion of the Mount Rushmore of moviemakers from history. He is takes the craft so seriously, and spends a lot of time in this conversation breaking down the small details he considers in order to out Dreyer Carl Theodor himself. He also speaks openly about his time as a behind camera creative in the NY porn scene, and shares some stories with us I had not heard before. But what jumps in every Scooter interview is how humble and kind the man is. He'll roll with any topic, is self-depricating if he has a chance to make a joke, clearly loves classic cinema. He speaks about cinematographers the way that the best drummers speak about their heroes from the past. After Scooter dips out, Eli and Chris walk through the mountain of March titles and portend the impossible task of covering everything from April. Overall, this is an episode I'm very happy with and I hope you enjoy! We will be back in early May to discuss the months announcements as the month of reveals opens up with a few early sneak peeks and another cornucopia of partner releases. | Episode 42 - May Announcements with Casey and Gentry from the Sin Syndicate | 08 May 2026 | 02:45:57
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. Episode 42 is reviewing the May announcements that we know. In preparation for Halfway to Black Friday, VS has released a portion of their slate in addition to a new slate of OCN partner titles. We are joined by film historian Casey Scott and film and culture writer Gentry Austin who run the amazing Sin Syndicate podcast. Casey is on record saying he has known Joe Rubin since he was 16 years old, and is a wealth of knowledge about VS and especially their golden age porno and sexploitation movies. Him and Gentry have many stories about the titles, the production of the discs, and overall this was a conversation Eli and I really loved. We had to try hard to keep it from going another 2 hours. They have already started showing up on commentaries and special features, including the Distribpix title this month, and it's easy to understand why. We will be back later in May to cover the full Halfway to Black Friday slate and discuss the overflowing cornucopia of April releases. | Episode 43 - HWtBF Surprise Announcements with VS Restoration Artist and Filmmaker Kurtis Spieler | 22 May 2026 | 01:43:21
Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 43 we sit down with Kurtis Spieler. Kurtis is a key member of the restoration team at Vinegar Syndrome, but also is involved in many parts of behind the scenes production and even finds time to be a filmmaker. We talk about the Halfway to Black Friday surprise announcements, including a few that Kurtis played a major role in getting them out and ready to ship. As always, Kurtis is an amazing interview with tons of insight into the VS operations and a sincere love for his job and the work he's doing to preserve cinema. We even get to tease the Vampfriars and how it was directing Vinegar Syndrome's first fully in-house production. We will be back later in June in a different way during partner month. We will have a dedicated episode to cover the 500 movies that were released in April, and separately we're looking forward to highlighting some of the partner labels in a more focused way. Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. In Episode 44 we get our wings up, our scentific mondo clipboards out, pop on a classical piano nocturne and lock in on an epic journey through 7 VSL releases in April, 2 other sublabels, 2 mainline, and the OCN titles we could get to. We begin by reviewing the partner label titles that we bought during the first day of the sale and quickly pivot to all of the April releases. June is going to be a little different for Punk Vacation. We have multiple partner label interviews lined up and will pair each OCN focused episode with a bevy of Melusine titles from 2026. Finding the joy in unfettered creativity. A podcast dedicated to bringing awareness and context to movies of any budget, from anywhere, and during any time. On Episode 45, we're kicking off our first of a few partner label interviews for this month by welcoming back friend of the show Ross Snyder, co-founder of Saturn's Core Audio & Video! We talk about all things SOV, from preserving and restoring titles from tape masters, to highlighting some past releases and of course, discuss this month's release: Dead Hunt, the final film from regional director Don Dohler! You can follow SC on Instagram and pick up their titles - some of which are up to 70% off this month - on the VS website! https://www.instagram.com/saturnscoreaudiovideo/ After that we jump into a much overdue 15 Minutes with You! Celeste and Eli catch up on January titles (Resurrection of Eve, Maraschino Cherry, and Sato Volume 3) and each week with partner interviews this month, we'll be covering the February, March, and April titles as well! Thank you to everyone who listens and please let us know how we can make the show better. Always listening!
