Public Health Explained - Why do conservatives hate the 15 minute city?
18 Jun 2025
00:33:17
The 15 minute city is a simple urban planning concept that prioritizes the people's health and wellbeing, with the added benefit of reducing environmental impact, pollution, and inefficiencies. It is arguably the best way to design an urban space. So why do the conservatives have a full blown moral panic about it?
Regulations are written in blood. Whose blood are we using?
The CDC Injury Center has been fully gutted. For the foreseeable future, we will not know what is killing us. This is proactive deregulation, as a lack of evidence of a problem can be used to justify the lack for more rules and policies.
Standards is a new series from Everything is Public Health, where we examine all the rules and regulations keeping us safe and healthy, and the deregulation movement working to destroy them.
The National Environmental Policy Act is a landmark piece of legislation that protects not only the environment but also the health and safety the public near large scale projects. It's being circumvented by a bogus emergency declaration.
Regulations are written in blood. Whose blood are we using?
Do you like clean water? Do you think dumping raw sewage into rivers and ocean is a good idea? The deregulation movement is targeting clean water, and they are using the courts to do it.

Public Health in Retrograde - Deleting Public Data
19 Mar 2025
00:58:37
Deleting data and research is book burning. No need to read 1984, we’re living through it.
Data is a representation of reality. By controlling data, one can control our understanding of reality, and in the hands of an autocratic regime erasing data is a highly effective tool for erasing dissent. After all, no one can claim the regime is causing problems if no evidence of said problems exists. We are witnessing the full scale dismantling of our science and institutions.

The draft of the second report from the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) commission, Make Our Children Healthy Again: Assessment, is as stupid as it is dangerous. One of the clearest example of propaganda. They say they want to make children healthy but are dismantling everything that keeps us safe.
*Note: The report was published shortly after we recorded. The language of deregulation they used in the draft did not change much, and almost all of the episode still applies.

Public Health in Retrograde - Sunscreen
17 Sep 2025
00:49:46

Black lung disease and silicosis making a completely unnecessary return. Miners protection, early screening, and compensation being repealed. This administration is seemingly doing everything they can to kill miners.
From the Death by Doctrine podcast, more episodes here.
After doing an episode on coal in our Standards series, we must answer the question: Why do coal miners support conservative politics despite how harmful it is for them?
"We're bringing back an industry that was abandoned. With us today are some of the amazing workers who will benefit from these policies." Trump, a liar.
"For too long, coal has been a dirty word that most are afraid to speak about, but we are still strong. We are still here. And we're still needed in order to make America great again. " Jeff Crowe, a coal mine manager from West Virginia, definitely not wrong about this. /s

This administration's bigoted and xenophobic attack on this country extends to the department of education, which they are actively attempting to dismantle.
PFAS contamination on military bases, and the Department of Defense (or War if you're a fascist) complete lack of initiative to clean up the mess. So much for caring about our troops.
