Quest & Chorus #6: From Carnac to Fangorn | The End of the Quest (special feat: Pub Songs and Stories #310)04 Nov 202500:35:36

Over 3,000 stones rise from the fields of Carnac. They stand silent, waiting, like the trees of Fangorn Forest, patient and alive beneath their stillness. In this episode of Quest & Chorus, we walk among ancient alignments, uncover old legends, and listen to what endures. Featuring music from The Irish Lassies, Dublin Gulch, and Brobdingnagian Bards.

This is Quest & Chorus #310

5:20 - WELCOME TO QUEST & CHORUS

Welcome to Quest & Chorus, where ancient stones still speak and songs remember what trees never forget. I'm your bard, Marc Gunn, also host of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, and typically host of this show as Folk Songs & Stories, but today, we call it Quest & Chorus.

Quest & Chorus is a 6-part podcast series. I fuse Celtic and folk music, science fiction and fantasy, and travel into a podcast with a quest. In each episode, you will get a clue to unlock a secret reward. And at the end of the season, you will combine all of those clues to unlock an even bigger amazing reward.

And today we walk not into a forest—but into a field that feels like one. The Alignments of Carnac stretch across the land like rows of rooted giants. They are silent. But not still. And if you listen… they speak in echoes. Today we talk of nature, of memory, and also of what I learned about food waste.

In 2017, I led a Celtic Invasion of Brittany. You can read about our search for the Holy Grail in France. In the meantime, it's time for the…

QUEST & CHORUS of ALIGNMENTS OF CARNAC

Over 3,000 standing stones stretch in careful lines through the fields of Carnac. No one knows exactly why they're here. Were they a celestial map? Some say they mark burial grounds. But walking by them, I didn't feel like I was in a graveyard. I felt like I was among the elders. It reminded me of Fangorn Forest, home of the Ents.

In The Lord of the Rings, Fangorn is a place where time moves slowly. Trees remember battles that men have forgotten. Carnac is a lot like that. The stones are not dead. They're just waiting.

I can't help but wonder who placed them here, so careful and deliberate. The stones of Carnac weren't raised by elves or Ents, but by real people. Neolithic builders, thousands of years before written history. Here's what we know about them.

HISTORY OF THE ALIGNMENTS OF CARNAC

The Alignments of Carnac in Brittany, France, are one of the most remarkable prehistoric monuments in Europe. They consist of long rows of standing stones (menhirs) and other megalithic features that stretch across the landscape.

Archaeological studies show that many of the stones date from between about 4,800 and 3,500 BC — some recent research suggests parts were erected as early as 4,600 BC.

The site is not a single line but a complex of alignments: four major groups (for example, Ménec, Kermario, Kerlescan, Petit Ménec) that lie in the commune of Carnac and its surroundings.

Originally, these stones were erected by Neolithic peoples who lived in what we now call Brittany. Their purpose remains a subject of debate: some propose they were ritual or ceremonial, others suggest funerary meaning, or perhaps linked to astronomical patterns or seasonal calendars.

Over the millennia, many stones were removed, toppled, or reused in local buildings, especially in historic times. The word "alignments" refers to the visible rows of standing stones that still remain.

Today, the Alignments of Carnac are protected as important heritage sites. Research continues to refine their dating and function, and the monuments remain a remarkable testimony to the ambition and organisation of prehistoric communities.

LEGENDS & MYTHS OF CARNAC

There are actual legends connected to the Carnac stones. One of the most widely told involves Saint Cornély. According to Breton tradition, Cornély was being pursued by soldiers. He and his oxen fled, and the stones of Carnac are said to be the soldiers turned to stone as a result of divine intervention.

Another version says the stones were dancing at midnight on Christmas Eve, and people who saw them would be crushed beneath as the stones marched to the sea.

While these legends don't claim to explain the actual Neolithic origins of the stones, they illustrate how later generations understood and imagined the dramatic rows of stones in their landscape.

MY THOUGHTS on CARNAC

  • Your walk through Carnac: Describe how it feels to be watched by stone that might remember more than you do. PLUS
  • Environmental reflection: These monuments lasted thousands of years. What are we building that will last that long?
  • "Heart of Fangorn" as a prayer for the planet: This song speaks for trees, for roots, for voices we ignore in our haste.
  • In Fangorn, the Ents stand watch over the woods. At Carnac, the menhirs stand silent on the moor. If they could speak, what would their witness be?
  • The Ents of Fangorn resist change; the stones of Carnac endure it. When do you find yourself standing still while everything else moves?

27:48 - Brobdingnagian Bards "Heart of Fangorn" from Memories of Middle Earth

HEART OF FANGORN

Lyrics and music Marc Gunn

Long before men tread Middle-Earth,
Before the dwarves and elves gave birth,
There sprouted a race for the trees' defense
In the heart of Fangorn, there live the Ents.

Ha-room… Ha-da-ra-room.
Ha-room… Ha-da-ra-room.

Patient farmers they tend the woods.
Gaurdians of stems and of roots.
They hear the arbors' laments and wails
From falling axes and tearful trails.

Ha-room… Ha-da-ra-room.
Ha-room… Ha-da-ra-room.

For Living Creatures all roam the land,
But hasty judgements make careless hands.
One thoughtless word from a thoughtless king
A thousand creatures die beneath the trees.

Ha-room… Ha-da-ra-room.
Ha-room… Ha-da-ra-room.

The rivers will flow though their course may change.
The birds are born and will fly away.
Men will come and men will go,
But the Ents remain through the melting snow.

Ha-room… Ha-da-ra-room.
Ha-room… Ha-da-ra-room.

Mark it down. Because the stones are not silent. They're just slow to speak.

This is the final episode named Quest & Chorus. For that matter, it's also the final episode of Folk Songs & Stories, at least by those names. I ran a poll on Patreon to see what name people liked the most. The most popular name was Pub Songs & Stories. So we're moving back to that name.

That said, Quest & Chorus is not gone forever. This is just the beginning. I really liked this special feature and so in some episodes in the future, I hope to include a quest and chorus for you.

I also realized that the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, my award-winning flagship program, is a great show. But over the past decade, the podcast has become more and more dominated by instrumental Celtic music. Which is fantastic. I love a great set of tunes as much as the songs. But I feel like the singers and the songwriters lost out a bit.

I started playing music because I wanted to be a songwriter. I love all styles of music. I love learning how to write songs. Writing Celtic and folk songs are one of the reasons I continue to create music.

So another thing I will be doing with a section of the podcast is to continue to promote the singers, songs, and songwriters that I find whether on the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast or wherever.

A great example is the interview that I'm sharing next time on the podcast. I interviewed Mikey Mason about his songwriting techniques. The things that inspire him to write a new song and share it each and every week for several years now.

I'm trying to write more songs myself, and I will continue to share them over on Patreon but hopefully every month I will have a new song that I can share in this podcast as well.

Clean energy isn't just good for the planet, it's good for your wallet. Solar and wind are now the cheapest power sources in history. But too many politicians would rather protect billionaires than help working families save on their bills. Real change starts when we stop allowing the ultra-rich to write our energy policy and run our government. Let's choose affordable, renewable power. Clean energy means lower costs, more freedom, and a planet that can actually breathe.

Quest & Chorus #5: Crossing the Waves to Skellig Michael (special feat: Folk Songs & Stories #309)21 Oct 202500:24:55

The sea around Skellig Michael never rests. Waves slam the cliffs like a heartbeat, and mist rises from the rocks like breath from some sleeping giant. Eight miles off the Kerry coast, this jagged island looks less like a piece of earth and more like a fragment of another world.

More than a thousand years ago, monks climbed 600 stone steps to live here, chasing silence, prayer, and the edge of heaven. Today, visitors come for the same reason, though they may not know it. Whether you're drawn by faith, history, or a galaxy far, far away, Skellig has a way of making you listen to what the sea remembers.

And that's where today's story begins — between exile and return, faith and freedom, stone and surf. Because sometimes, we're all just trying to find our way back to the ocean. With Music from Niamh Dunne, Wolf Loescher, and Jocelyn Pettit & Ellen Gira.

4:17 - WELCOME TO QUEST & CHORUS

Welcome to Quest & Chorus, where every wave might carry a myth, and every exile still dreams of home. I'm your bard, Marc Gunn, also host of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, and typically host of this show as Folk Songs & Stories, but today, we call it Quest & Chorus. And today, we drift to the edge of the world, To Skellig Michael, where the sea swallows history and monks once whispered their prayers to gulls. It's also where a Jedi gave up the fight. And where a selkie sings himself back into the sea. Today's theme may seem like exile or perhaps it's where you truly belong.

Quest & Chorus is a 6-part podcast series. I fuse my love of Celtic and folk music, science fiction and fantasy, and travel into a podcast with a quest. Let's begin the…

13:47 - QUEST & CHORUS of SKELLIG MICHAEL

Eight miles off the coast of County Kerry is the island of Skellig Michael. It is a jagged twin-peaked island. Its name comes from the Irish Sceilg Mhichíl which means Michael's Rock. It was dedicated to the Archangel Michael.

The island's history began in the sixth century. Monks sought isolation and closeness to God. So they settled there because the early Irish monastic tradition valued hardship, solitude, and spiritual testing. The monks carved out a small community on narrow terraces more than 600 steps above sea level.

The monastic settlement they built still survives. They built a cluster of beehive stone huts, stone crosses and terraces connected by narrow paths. Everything was dry-stone construction. That means they were fitted together without mortar. They were built so well that they have lasted over a millennium. The monks grew small gardens, caught seabirds and fish, and collected rainwater in cisterns. They survived off of what the island would allow.

Skellig Michael was a center of devotion to Saint Michael the Archangel sometime after the 8th century. The island was also a pilgrimage site for centuries. Climbing its steps was seen as a form of penance and spiritual renewal.

By the 13th century, life on Skellig Michael had become too difficult. Storms, isolation, and changing Church patterns led the monks to relocate to the mainland, near Ballinskelligs. But the island remained a place of pilgrimage well into the modern era.

Skellig Michael is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is recognized for its exceptional preservation of early Christian monastic life and its haunting natural beauty. It's also become familiar to a new generation as Ahch-To, the oceanic world where Luke Skywalker lived in exile in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Even now, Skellig Michael stands as a symbol of endurance, of faith carved into stone, of solitude turned to sanctuary, and of the fragile bridge between human devotion and the raw power of nature.

LEGENDS OF SKELLIG MICHAEL

One of the more famous legends involves the Tuatha Dé Danann and the Milesian invasion of Ireland. It is recounted in the Lebor Gabála Érenn (the Book of Invasions). According to this myth:

  • As the Milesians sailed toward Ireland around 1400 BC in the mythic narrative, a storm was caused by the Tuatha Dé Danann. They are one of the faerie-like supernatural race in Irish mythology. Skellig's cliffs are sometimes mentioned as one of the treacherous places where ships were driven ashore.
  • One version says Irr, a son of Míl Espáine (the mythic ancestor of the Gaels), was travelling from the Iberian Peninsula. He drowned and was buried on Skellig.

MY THOUGHTS on SKELLIG MICHAEL

20:02 - Marc Gunn "Selkie's Life" from Come Adventure With Me

Thank you for returning to the sea with me. Skellig Michael is not the end of the story. But it's where stories are kept safe.

Next time, we wander the great alignments of Carnac, stones older than myth, standing like trees in time. Until then… If the sea calls you, don't be afraid to answer.

11:43 - IRISH DRINKING SONGS FOR CAT LOVERS KICKSTARTER

In 2005, I decided to fund my second solo album, Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers, with a Kickstarter. Well, officially Kickstarter hadn't started yet. It would be another four years before that happened. However, I ran the Kickstarter in a very similar way. I set different levels and ended up raising over $10,000 to fund the album.

Admittedly, that was not all profit. In fact, I had far higher expenses back then because I didn't know how to run a fundraising campaign back then. Nevertheless, it was a huge success and I was able to order 1000 copies of this CD.

I think I've printed over 3000 copies of this CD since it was released. But of course, now it is no longer available on CD with me at least. It's only available as a digital download or on an album pin.

On June 6, 2005, I released the second episode of the Cat Lovers Podcast to fund this album. Here's a re-release of that podcast episode.

"When Kitty Eyes Are Smiling" is a parody of the song "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling". The lyrics to When Irish Eyes Are Smiling were written by Chauncey Olcott and George Graff, Jr. and set to the music of Enerst Ball for Olcott's production of The Isle O' Dreams. The music was published in 1912.

-- Watch the show on YouTube.

I met Rie Sheridan Rose at Excalibur Fantasy Faire. That was the first Renaissance festival I performed at. Rie became a fan of my band Brobdingnagian Bards. But one day, before I got to know her, she handed me lyrics and a cassette out of the blue. She had written a song and asked if I would sing it.

I'll be honest. I was a bit lazy. I didn't want to try to learn her melody.I never really did anything with the cassette. But I loved the lyrics. So I wrote some music for it. Andrew and I started playing the song. It was extremely well-received. Eventually, it was recorded for the Bards' album, Brobdingnagian Fairy Tales.

One day, I asked her to write lyrics for a Firefly soundtrack. Then I asked if she would write some hobbit drinking songs with me. Then came a pirate and dragon Steampunk project I came up with.

Twenty years later, we have over 30 songs that we've written together!

And while I do talk about Rie every now and then during shows and in emails. I don't think I ever did a show dedicated to the songs she and I wrote. Nor have I done a podcast dedicated to our music together.

Back in June, I finally remedied that during Coffee with The Cetlfather. I'm pleased to share that show with you right now.

> What are the top 5 most-famous Irish songs for you?

Kelley Durski:

1.) Kevin Barry (though that may be a Savannah thing)

2.) Molly Malone

3.) Wild Mountain Thyme

4.) Whiskey in a Jar

5.) Black Velvet Band

With honorable mentions to Beer Beer Beer, Fields of Athenry, Green Grows the Laurel, and A Stor mo Chro.

Joshua Ohmer: Most famous has to be Danny Boy, although it's not a favorite of mine. Then I'd say Whiskey in the Jar, Molly Malone... And if we can dip into modern Irish music, I'd say that The Cranberries' Zombie and probably something from U2, like Sunday Bloody Sunday should qualify as particularly famous Irish songs.

Janine Rinker: That's tough. I've only learned a few... Molly Mallone, Paddy Works on the Railway, a verse-ish of Danny Boy. I'd probably go with The Wild Rover and Whiskey in the Jar as the last two. I'd occasionally hear "They Kept the Pig in the Parlor" from my dad's family, but have to say that's an anti-Irish song.

Allan Marcotte: The Wild Colonial Boy, Bold Fenian Men, Whiskey in the Jar, Rising of the Moon and Brennan on the Moor

Matt Hughes: Wild Rover, Black Velvet Band, Whiskey in the Jar, Finnegan's Wake and Molly Malone

Anna Paulson wrote on Twitter: "This is a poem I wrote while I listened to your live show on Facebook.  Thanks for the inspiration."

I asked her if I could share it.

Oh dear harp,
Will you sing for me?
Please sing me a song to set my heart free.

Every time a bard plucks your strings,
Everyone gets up, dances, and sings.
Please, please do that for me.

My hands are clumsy,
My voice is shrill,
But your song still gives me a thrill.

I am no bard,
Music for me is hard.
Yet I'm the only one here to play you.

So please dear harp,
Sing for me,
A song to set any soul free.

Stan Berry emailed a photo: "Saw and enjoyed this video. I'm just a bit jealous. I'm looking out my front door at this. Six inches since last night."

Re: Sci F'Irish music

Janine Rinker replied about Sci F'Irish music: "Hi Marc, I would expect Sci-F'irish music to include original Sci-Fi music, traditional Irish music and Sci-Fi parodies of Irish music.  Per Arthur C. Clarke, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", which you could use to justify including fantasy with sci-fi, if you like. I would not be surprised if some Scottish music was included, since I think greater care is taken to distinguish Scottish from Irish where one or both groups are a major presence."

Crazy Jay says, "Star Wars and Lord of the Rings"

I had some comments that came in along with tips from my April Celtfather Live show:

Joyce emailed me a donation: "Just a small gift to make up for losing some revenue while on vacation through the end of the month. Your podcast is an oasis some days. And thank you also for being a SJW. How could it ever be right to stand-up for injustice? Crazy."

Troy emailed a tip: "Why not tip in advance, right? lol. Looking forward to the show, thank you. Hope you and yours are doing well during these weird times. Stay safe out there."

What theme should I explore in upcoming Pub Songs Podcast episodes?

Jamie Richards: "Staying Connected or Community might be fun" and "I always like stories, whether a song that is in itself a story, the story behind a song, or just stories in general."

Carol Baril: "Anything with a positive spin! Need optimism really bad!"

Karen Mitchell Carothers: "Anything that doesn't have to do with COVID. Seriously. I'm even tired of FuMP songs about quarantine. I'd love to hear more about your celtic travels... I've only been to southwest Ireland myself, though we are hoping to go to Scotland next year (mainly south central Scotland, I think... the Carruthers ancestral area... visit the family ghost...)"

Jenn emailed: "Hey! Totally unasked for suggestion ?? but you should totally market that one quote "I've never known what it means to be normal/nor have I knowingly cared". I'm a mental health therapist and I would totally buy that as a poster for my office - or as a tshirt for normal life. Just a thought! Thanks!"

Melba Langley emailed: "Hi Marc! I stumbled across your demon lullaby in an obscure board back in early 2010. I had a high risk pregnancy,  couldn't drive, and had my terminally ill father in law living with us. I planned a whole nursery theme around this awesome song I downloaded.  My husband freaked out. We went with ladybugs.

Fast forward to this wonderful social isolation,  and I told my now 9 year old about the story behind her ladybug decor.  She loved it. She asked me to paint monsters on her walls, and to scribble parts of the lyrics in red on the walls,  simulating blood. For the first time since a computer crash that corrupted the demon lullaby download, I looked you up.

My kid has been singing,  "you used to have a sister" all day long.  My husband is freaking out. But hey, we have time to redo her room,  right?

In 2010 I found both monsters and demons underneath there bed, btw. I think it's awesome.  If we can get paint delivered, you'll get pictures."

Janine Rinker sent me a happy birthday picture.

What kind of art do you create (if any), and What are your biggest challenges as an artist?

Matt Hughes: "Like you Marc, I am a musician, the biggest challenge for us, is getting people to listen to something other than Pop music or classic rock..."

Joshua Ohmer: "Photography, mostly. Calligraphy, too, but I dabble in a bunch of things. But that's my challenge. I'm a dabbler. It's hard for me to stay focused and create things.

Tina Richardson" I like to paint, sketch sew and and just about anything artsy but my problem is time and space."

Rie Sheridan Rose" Writing, photographing, general mayhem. Not enough time or money..."

Janine Rinker: "I used to write poetry. Now it's mostly pen and ink and/or colored pencil. It's hard to get started, and I had a lot of scientific illustration projects that I was doing for classes, so I'm in the habit of gridding stuff, which is tedious, instead of drawing much freehand. I've got a partly finished alligator and a pathophysiology illustration I may give up on in my sketchbook now, also a flag and puppy picture I seem to have lost the reference photo for."

What cat songs would you like to hear on the show? What song does your cat love to hear the most?

Carol Baril" "My kitties like Wild Kitty and Catnip kitty. Everytime they hear meows they look around for other cats

Vonda Hilyard Heverly: "The Danny Boy one had to have been written about my cat! We sing 'Sonny Boy!'"

Karen Mitchell Carothers" "My cats don't seem to like any music, but I like them all. Trying to remember the title of the one that reminds me most of my cats."

Pat Var: "Lord of the Pounce"

Janine Rinker emailed: "Hi Marc, I started looking for celtic music online because my philosophy professor claimed that Irish music is mainly drinking and fighting songs (it isn't all...).  Anyway, after listening to the same songs by the same groups several times I got the idea of just skipping several pages of search and found your music.

I generally listen to your pubsongs podcast when I'm typing homework of some sort (I'm an adjunct professor at a community college, and something of a chronic student), although sometimes I'm playing games on Facebook instead.  You've gotten my family watching Firefly, and I gave some of your CD's as a Christmas gift to a friend who likes cats, but doesn't have any of her own anymore. Thanks for the bonus Christmas CD's you sent.

If you're not familiar with them, let me suggest Woods Tea Company and Cahill Dunne as other groups whose music you might want to play.  Both have some songs where the audience is encouraged to sing the chorus. Woods Tea Company has a variety of songs, but "This Side of the Sea" is an album specifically of Irish music.  Cahill Dunne is an Irishman who married an American. He plays piano, and sings a variety of styles of music, including traditional Irish, comedy and Western songs.

I really enjoy the variety of music on your podcast and listening to your adventures."

James H. emailed: "Hi Marc –Thanks for sending me the freebies!  I'm listening to Star of County Down, but not sure how to download the songs.  I can usually right click and "Save Target As", however, that's only saving the HTM (file location).  Is it only intended to listen on my computer?

We live in Modesto California.  We're Christian Baptists and our church is in Stockton.

I found you through my android podcast player, although most of my regular podcasts are on my iPhone.  I like to bring my tablet (android) on long trips to visit my daughters in college in Southern California.

My wife and daughters all play violin and my daughters played (still one daughter in it) the Modesto Youth Symphony Orchestra; they have played concerts in Canada, Austria and Czech Republic.  My oldest LOVES anything Celtic and would probably want to live in Ireland.

My dad's side of the family is from County Cork and Clare County.  My mom's side came over on the Mayflower.

Thanks again I'm enjoying your podcast!"

Albert D emailed: "Hello Marc, I love your shows, I love your music. Keep up the great work. That's awesome that the next few months are looking busier than you've been in years. LONG overdue. Congratulations and good luck. Could you please tell me what "coffee with the Celtfather" is all about? Thank you for your time. Peace be with you, God bless you, go in peace."

Allan Marcotte emailed: "Marc,I heard you singing Kilty Pleasure about taking pride in your Scottish heritage and wearing of the kilt. I am not of Scot or Irish descent but the song spoke to me.  My Dad was an American of French Canadian extraction but my Mom was German from the old country, she came to this country about 4 years before I was born. Growing up I was aware of my French Canadian heritage but I was very aware my German heritage.  I listened to traditional German music and still do though I don't speak the lingo and understand all the songs. My diet is heavily influenced by German cooking, I even make my own sauerkraut from scratch. It becomes very prominent at Christmas, the tradition of celebrating Advent, the visit from St Niklaus on 6 December and to me there is nothing prettier than Silent Night sung in German.  Looking forward to the new album."

9:33 - CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS

Every year, I lead a small group of people on an exciting adventure to one of the Celtic nations and other exciting locations. In 2025, we're going on a Celtic Invasion of Galicia in Spain. Galicia is indeed one of the more obscure Celtic nations to those of us who are most familiar with Ireland and Scotland.

Find out more at CelticInvasion.com.

9:43 - IRISH DRINKING SONGS FOR CAT LOVERS

In 2003, I was back from Dragon Con chatting with a friend on the phone. The Irish song "Wild Rover" was stuck in my head as we started talking about cats. The chorus came around and I started meowing. An idea started growing in my head. What if I parodied a bunch of traditional Irish drinking songs with lyrics all about cats.

I wrote my first three songs before the end of October. I then found Ari Koinuma in Austin to help me produce the single. I set up a website at CatDrinkingSongs.com. In December, someone posted the idea to Fark. I had 20,000 website hits in one day and hundreds of comments. I knew this was a great idea.

In May of 2005, I launched a podcast to help raise money for a CD of Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers. Thus was born the Cat Lovers Podcast.

What's your favorite Scottish song?

Marcia Claesson emailed: "I love Scottish music.  It's hard to pick one. I suppose if we're talking traditional Scottish ballads, I would say "Skye Boat Song."  So if I only have one vote, that would be it. However, if we're talking instrumental, I would say "Niel Gow's Lament on the Death of His Second Wife." And modern songs?  Nothing beats Dougie MacLean's "Caledonia." Thanks so much for your music. I hope you come to Lincoln, Nebraska (or somewhere close) sometime."

Allan Marcotte emailed: "Favorite Scottish song?  Either "Sound the Pibroch" or "Welcome Royal Charlie".  What can I say I am a hopeless romantic, there is nothing better than standing with and fighting for a lost cause against impossible odds."

Garrett Crowe emailed a photo: "Marc, I'm going through unemployment now, which means lots of tedious work I'm not very good at while job hunting... and trying to keep my spirits up. Nothing does it better than my Dungeons and Dragons sessions and listening to the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. 7:48 - STORIES FROM THE ROAD: "Loch Lomond"

Loch Lomond is a traditional Scottish song, Roud #9598. It was first published in 1841. The author is unknown, but the loch is the largest loch in Scotland.

I've heard a few different stories about the origins. Wikipedia lists the most-popular one being that is Jacobite song. It says there are references to it with the date 1746 attached. That was the year the Bonnie Prince Charlie's rebellion ended. They also have an additional verse that I've never seen used.

O braw Charlie Stewart, dear true, true heart,
Wha could refuse thee protection,
Like the weeping birk on the wild hillside,
How graceful he looked in dejection

Nevertheless, the song is about a Scottish soldier far away in France who tells a friend to "take the high road" home. The "high road" is of course life, and a regular path to Scotland. The "low road" is about dying and having his spirit head home.

You can find my lyrics and chords to my version of "Loch Lomond" to play along by following the link.

Someone once said that we are all heroes of our own stories. It's true. Even if some people forget it or don't feel like it. You don't need someone else to be your symbol of strength. You are a hero.

Yet too often selfish people try to steal your power to make them feel strong. Just like they do in Jaynestown on Firefly. So this song is about reclaiming your heroism from the rich who deceive and exploit you.

Cliffs of Insanity, Success Is Not a Zero-Sum Game, Van Morrison04 Nov 201900:37:06

Celtic Spring Challenge #29808 Apr 202500:47:14

The Celtic Spring Challenge is underway. I will tell you all about it. I'm heading back to Texas for Sherwood Forest Faire. Buy local and buy sustainable.

Music from Tami Curtis, Sassenach, Charlie O'Brien, Toby Bresnahan, Brobdingnagian Bards, plus Screeched Inn with yours truly.

This is Folk Songs & Stories #298

0:39 - Tami Curtis "Keep Our Fire Burning" from Cavort

4:43 - WELCOME TO FOLK SONGS & STORIES

I am Marc Gunn. I'm a Celtic and Folk musician and also host of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. If you're new to the show, please subscribe. You can do that PubSong.com or Just send an email to follow@celtfather.

Greetings my friends. Spring has sprung in Atlanta. Everything is covered in the yellowish glow of pollen. Fortunately, I've doubled up on allergy meds this year. It seems to have helped. I haven't lost my voice once this season, knock on wood. Even after a 4 hour show at the Wings Cafe & Tap House on St Patrick's Day. I call that a HUGE win.

In the meantime, I've got a little challenge for you. It's simple, it's soulful, and it's rooted in the music we love. It's called the Celtic Spring Challenge, and it's happening all through the month of April.

Here's how it works:

🎶 First—listen to Celtic music every day. Whether it's a lively jig, a haunting ballad, or an old favorite that stirs your heart. This podcast is mostly about Celtic Folk songs. So let that music be your companion.

🚶‍♀️ Second—go for a 30-minute walk. Every day if you can. Get outside, breathe in that spring air, and let the rhythm of the music move your feet.

♻️ And third—pick up three pieces of trash while you're out there. It's a small gesture, but it's a way of giving something back to the land that inspires so much of the music we celebrate here.

It's easy, it's meaningful, and it's a beautiful way to connect—with nature, with music, and with community.

Share your journey with us using the hashtag #CelticSpringChallenge. We'd love to see your favorite walking paths, hear your go-to songs, and celebrate the good you're doing out in the world.

So what do you say? Lace up. Press play. And let's make this April a month to remember.

We'll wander the same lands once tread by Celtic warriors, uncover the ancient tales passed down through the ages, and experience the soul-stirring rhythms of authentic Galician Celtic music, filled with history and passion.

Troy emailed: "Hi Marc, I finished the epic Pub Songs podcast from Sherwood. That was a lot of fun! Thank you. I feel like I don't say that enough. It's a blast to follow your musical world.

Along the same lines, the Heroes CD is incredible. It's been getting regular play on the commute from work. Thank you for that too. I got a grin when you mentioned it on the podcast and said "you probably don't have this album."

I follow your blog via RSS feed, as I have for years. Sometimes the old ways still work. Anyway, I just read the one about social media not sparking joy for you. *raises hand* Right there with you on that one. I hear more and more that employers won't hire someone without a social media presence. Does it truly matter? I've never thought so. Sounds like you're coming to the same conclusion after years of being in the trenches on that. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the idea of immediacy, but everything seems to be immediate online. As they say, when everything is an emergency, nothing is an emergency. Unless you're one of these YouTube stars making bank on ad revenue for having millions of followers. Maybe then I'd get the need, but I don't follow any of those types.

It's a weird balance. People tell me I'm old for not being on Facebook. Many in the younger generation don't bother with it either. Not sure where that leaves me. But I know what I like. I seek out podcasts and music. That's how I found you years ago. I've never had a reason to second guess. It takes all types in the world. It's like that in any business too. It just seems to me that musicians make music. As Spock told Kirk, it's your first, best destiny. Anything else is a waste of material. ;)

I admire that you're willing to try new things, and I can't imagine how much of it comes down to marketing. In the end, you've built a solid product with a solid brand, and you continue to do so. It speaks for itself.

I did have one old school idea... have you thought about broadcasting your podcast feed on XM radio? Or even on local FM bands (in conjunction with local Ren Faires and cons)? Then the radio stations feel the need to advertise for you. Radio is where music lives, right? You probably have considered it, but it never hurts to toss an idea out there. I've wondered why, as popular as Ren Faires are now, why there is no Ren Faire Radio. But then... this is what you do in podcast form, isn't it? Is radio not the great granddaddy of all social media? Orson Welles knew it. Freddie Mercury knew it. 80 years on, has it really changed so much?

Apologies for rambling. In any case, this is a long-winded way of saying that this old school music fan appreciates you efforts. I have for years, and I will for years to come. I hope your move to Atlanta goes smoothly. All the best to you and yours."

Sherwood Forest Faire: Castle Building, Musical Women in History, Laughter Hypnosis18 Apr 201903:32:12

Ten years ago, Sherwood Forest Faire opened their borders to allow a medieval festival to happen.

In this episode, you will learn how the festival came to be. You'll meet some of the musicians who have performed there since the beginning. You'll hear their music and some of the stories I recorded at the faire. Some are about travel or women in music, hypnosis, and juggling. There's a lot to unpack. And you get 3 1/2 hours to do just that.

WHO'S PLAYING IN THE PUB TODAY?

0:18 "The Hunter Set" by Runa from Current Affairs

Everyone is Irish on St Patrick's Day. But I prefer to see this as a holiday for everyone of Celtic ancestry. I don't know how many kilts I've seen worn on the holiday, but it's a lot.

8:25 FACT #1

Ireland is one of seven Celtic nations. These are the places that the Celts settled after invading their way from central Europe before finally being conquered by the Romans and driven to the fringes of continent.

The nations include: Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man, Cornwall in Southwest England, Brittany in France, and Galicia in Northwest Spain.

While the Celts settled in those locations, they were eventually pushed out of those homelands to places around the world.

9:32 "Almost Irish" by Ceann from from Almost Irish and Best of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast

14:45 FACT #2

Boston, New York, New Orleans was one of the top 3 immigration points for the Irish during the potato blight of the 1800s. "Men of New Basin Canal" that honors the 30K Irishmen who died digging that canal.

15:22 "Men of New Basin Canal" by Marc Gunn & Jamie Haeuser from How America Saved Irish Music

18:29 FACT #3

March 17th is the holy day of St. Patrick in the Catholic church. Because of this, it was not celebrated like you find it today. In fact, March 17 was a dry holiday in Ireland until the 70s. All the pubs were closed. In 1995 they began celebrating it like in America.

It's quite a ironic that as a sainted holiday, St Patrick's Day is celebrated with drinking.

19:00 "St Patrick Never Drank" by Marc Gunn from Kilted For Her Pleasure

21:27 FACT #4

St Patrick was not Irish. He was born in Scotland or Wales in the 4th century. Originally, he was enslaved and taken to Ireland. He escaped, became a Christian and went back to convert the Celts. He died in Ireland on March 17, 461.

I was born on St Patrick's Day. I have a song for all those born on March 17th or of Irish heritage.

25:08 PUB CHAT

I want your feedback. What are you doing today while listening to the Pub Songs Podcast? How has this show inspired you?

Send a written comment along with any pictures to marc@marcgunn.com. Use the hashtag #pubsongs in the subject of your email.

River Godbee replied to my Marc's Musing email: "Typically I am cleaning up around the house, which never ends when you have a 5 year old! But I also listen while driving to work/school or going on walks. I used to use a variety of podcast apps, but now I stick to Spotify so that I can have my music and shows in one place. (It also makes it easier to find the albums you mention in the show.)

And for St Patrick's Day? Since I live in Savannah, I will be avoiding downtown and spending the day with my wife and daughter."

Carol Baril replied to Marc's Musings: "Hey Marc! Love the last Coffee with the Celtfather!  I was sick last week with a stomach bug and bad head cold so I listened on my phone while sitting at home with my kitties!  Usually I'm working at my desk and your Podcasts are a great way to relax thru the stress of computer work! I loved that Beer, Beer, Beer song with the Harry Potter twist!  Keep working on that one and you can put it on a new Sci-fi drinking song CD!!! Take care and give your girls hugs from me and my kitties!"

27:06 FACT #5

Green is most-often associated with St Patrick's Day. But St Patrick's color was actually blue.

And as a wild twist, I was told that the Scots wore orange. It wasn't until much later I realized that green was the color of Catholics and orange was the color of Protestants. And of course the Republic of Ireland is largely Catholic.

27:35 "The Orange and the Green" by Brobdingnagian Bards from Brobdingnagian Fairy Tales

29:56 FACT #6

St Paddy's Day is the shortened version of St Patrick's Day. However, that shortened name is often misspelled. It should be spelled Paddy. Not Patty.

Patty is a girls name. Paddy is short for the Irish name Padraig.

30:52 "P Stands for Paddy" by Emish from Sinners Make the Best Saints

36:30 FACT #7

The most famous Irish song is Danny Boy. But it's not actually Irish. Okay the melody is an Irish tune called "Derry Aire". But the lyrics were written by an English lawyer and songwriter named Frederic Weatherly.

I get the song requested so much that I play two versions of "Danny Boy", the original and a parody about cats.

36:57 "Danny Boy for Cat Lovers" by Marc Gunn & The Dubliners' Tabby Cats from Whiskers in the Jar

40:00 FACT #8

The first St Patrick's day parade was celebrated in New York in 1762. The Irish were trying to hold on to their heritage.

Parades sprang up around the world since then, most notably in Chicago where the river is dyed green. Dublin too now has a big St. Patrick's Day parade.

40:37 "Patrick's Day Parade" by Mick Moloney from McNally's Row of Flats (Irish American Songs of Old New York)

44:05 FACT #9

The leprechaun is a fascinating and mischievous creature from Irish lore.

The modern representation was actually a racist link between the Irish and monkeys. It was meant to belittle the Irish immigrants in the early 1900s. It seems Irish Americans embraced and rebirthed the myth.

Oh and apparently, there are no female leprechauns in the lore.

I wrote a song that celebrates America's contribution to the leprechaun myth and to Irish music.

44:36 "The Leprechaun" by Marc Gunn from Soul of a Harper

48:35 FACT #10

Slainte Mhaith is an Irish toast. It means "here's to your good health". In lovely Gaelic fashion, it's spelled nothing like it sounds in English. So if you're out drinking, be it Guinness or tea, raise a glass and repeat the Phrase.

48:53 "Slainte Mhaith" by Kilted Kings from Name On My Soul

50:53 FACT #11

More than 13 million pints of Guinness are consumed on St Patrick's Day. I hope you will raise a glass also to Charlie Mopps, the fictitious inventor of beer.

Celtic Heroes & Musical Legends #17825 Feb 201901:31:07

Inspiration is a funny friend. It finds you and guides you. It takes you to strange and wonderful places. It introduces you to heroes.

I started playing Celtic music in 1999... by accident. I had three "Celtic" songs in my song repertoire: "The Scotsman", "Irish Ballad" by Tom Lehrer, and an original Enya-esque song with nonsensical lyrics called "Lounging in La La Land".

I was practicing on the South Mall at the University of Texas at Austin when red-haired gentleman asked if I'd like to perform at a Renaissance festival. As a Dungeons & Dragons nerd, I was so excited I asked my friend Andrew McKee to start a band with me.

Soon the Brobdingnagian Bards found new Celtic music heroes and inspiration. For me, it was The Wolfe Tones, Christy Moore, The Irish Balladeers, and some random cassette that was called Irish Drinking Songs. That was my introduction to Celtic music. Those were my first Celtic music heroes.

Later, I added Ed Miller, Serious Kitchen (featuring Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer), Dougie MacLean, The Elders, Gaelic Storm, Clandestine, and even Bing Crosby. So of course many of these you have heard on my podcasts.

Who are your Celtic music heroes?

Welcome to the Pub Songs Podcast, the virtual Public House for Celtic culture and change through music. My name is Marc Gunn. I am a Celtic Geek musician and your guide to a kinder, happier world.

Today's show is brought to you by my Heroic Gunn Runners on Patreon. These generous people pledge $10 per month so that I can keep creating music, podcasts and live streaming video shows like Coffee with The Celtfather. Of course, you can support me for any amount. But these are my heroes. Thank you!

Irish American Music for St Patrick's Day #17718 Feb 201902:15:35

If it wasn't for America, the traditional music of Ireland might no longer exist. America saved Irish music. That's the premise behind my 2014 album I recorded with Jamie Haeuser, How America Saved Irish Music.

I expected more of a backlash when I released the album title that was a parody of the book How the Irish Saved Civilization. I only got one nasty email.

I started immersing myself in Irish music in 1999. I learned a lot about Irish culture and music over the years. The Irish were forced out of Ireland. Their music traveled around the globe. It integrated with other cultures. Eventually, it found its way home.

When it did, it had changed. Blossomed and grew, yes. But changed as well

We all know that the jigs and reels are the backbone of Irish tunes. But underneath it, I heard something fascinating. It was the similarities between Irish and American rhythm.

The guitar was the clue. American guitarists changed music around the world. Listen to any guitarist playing Irish music and you will hear American rock-n-roll as its rhythmic backbone.

Irish guitar is rock-n-roll guitar underneath a reel and a jig.

This makes a little more sense when you think of Irish songs like "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye". That's the Irish version of the American Civil War song "When Johnny Comes Marching Home". The Irish took a great American melody and gave it their own twist.

In a sense, How America Saved Irish Music is nothing new. Jamie Haeuser and I fused American rhythm, jazz, and blues to Irish immigration songs to create our own exploration of the Irish musical diaspora.

You'll hear the entire album this episode of the podcast, plus an interview with Jamie Haeuser.

Celtic Music & the Dark Side of the Pub #17504 Feb 201901:18:23

Pubs are often dark places. I'm sure dark things have been discussed. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't feel they are any darker than what we find on social media.

I don't like social media. It brings out the worst in people. It makes the world a more vile place than it actually is. And so I avoid it, like the plague. Fair comparison.

That's one of the big reasons I changed things up this year. But before we get to this year, let's talk about last and the many things happening in the pub.

In this show, you will hear some of my picks of the best Celtic bands of 2018. You'll enjoy new music from the Brobdingnagian Bards to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Learn about the new Song Request feature of Coffee with The Celtfather. Understand my new mission statement for the podcast. And then we will chat about how the pain of engaging on social media outweighs its use and why I moved to YouTube. Finally, I launch a new feedback section today. So I need your feedback.

Finding the Bridge Between Celtic & Folk #17421 Jan 201902:19:00

Sometimes the things that matter most to us don't matter as much to those we serve.

The Bridge is still one of my favorite albums. It features one of the best songs I feel like I ever recorded—"Peggy Gordon".

And yet no one talks about the album.

There are many reasons why this may be. But one may be it just hasn't found its audience.

They say anonymity is the greatest obstacle for musicians. So I'm gonna share this album in its entirety to reach a few more people.

If enjoy the album, buy it. Or add it to your library on Spotify. Share the show.

PUB TALK

Welcome to the Pub Songs Podcast. My name is Marc Gunn. I'm a Celtic Geek musician and podcaster. Once again, I'm sharing one of my albums from start to finish.

The Irish diaspora to America brought the happy gift of Irish music, informing and influencing folk, ragtime, blues and even jazz. In this unique collection of original and traditional music, Celtic American musician Marc Gunn leafs through music known, remembered and new to find common themes, melodies and memories.

The Bridge is just that – a connection not only between Irish and American music, but also between Marc Gunn's previous work primarily in Celtic music and his roots in folk, and newer influences of blues and jazz for this New Orleans-based musician.

Above all, the Bridge expresses Marc Gunn's deep love for the music of both his home and where his heart resides.

Rebellion Songs for 2019 #17310 Jan 201901:15:25

If something is broken, fix it. That's what my dad told me when I was a kid.

The simple fact is things break all the time. We don't fix always fix them. We get stuck in a rut.

But it's the way things have always been. The way things are. It's a tradition. So we choose not to change.

2018 was a good year for me. I rebelled. I broke down traditional music business barriers. Now I'm forging a new path for a new year for my music...and for this podcast.

The Pub Songs Podcast is reborn this year. It's a little bit more like a pub. I'm not gonna plan every detail of what I say. Instead, I'm gonna kick back. We're gonna chat about music... and stuff.

PUB TALK

Welcome to the Pub Songs Podcast. My name is Marc Gunn. I'm a Celtic Geek musician and podcaster. Once again, I'm sharing one of my albums from start to finish.

St Andrew's is on November 30th this year. In addition to celebrating the feast of St. Andrew, it is also Scotland's official national holiday. So I'm gonna share my album Scottish Songs of Drinking & Rebellion, from start to finish in this show.

This album was released on November 30, 2013, five years ago. It was fully produced, mixed and mastered by me.

Nathan Deese is a Celtic musician from North Carolina. He sang background vocals on the album. He also played bass, guitar, mandolin, whistle and flute on "Come Ye By Athrol", Green Grow the Rashes", "Ye Jacobites By Name", and "Flower of Scotland".

Daniel I Briggs sang background vocals as well and played bass, guitar, mandolin, octave mandolin and all other songs.

Jody Richardson added violin on "Loch Tay Boat Song"

Jon Richardson played concertina on "MacPherson's Farewell".

Most of the tracks were recorded in January 2011. I took my family on a trip up to middle-of-no-where Kentucky to record, while Gwen and baby Kenzie visited a friend in Lexington. I recorded this album, Don't Go Drinking With Hobbits, and St Patrick's Day all at the same time.

However, there were two tracks I re-recorded parts later. One was "Mingulay Boat Song". The other was "Flower of Scotland". And when you listen to those, notice the background vocals because I used the wrong settings on my USB preamp. So they came off more compressed sounding. And I LOVED the sound. They kinda make the songs.

I found it humorous that in "Ye Canna Shove Yer Granny" that I repeated a verse accidentally. And I didn't notice it while I was editing.

The front Photo on the album was taken by Jan Czenkusch on our Celtic Invasion of Scotland in 2013. She also took the pictures inside the CD. I took the ones on the back. And graphic design was by James McDaniel II.

Now most of these songs are traditional except for "Flower of Scotland" which is by Roy Williamson. "Mingulay Boat Song" which is by Sir Hugh S. Roberton. "Mari's Wedding" is by John Roderick Bannerman. And "Skye Boat Song" is by Sir Harold Boulton.' And of course Robert Burns wrote "MacPherson's", "Jacobites", "Scots Wha Hae", "A Man's A Man" and "Green Grow the Rashes".

I love this album. These are my absolute favorite Scottish, all except I couldn't get a good recording of "Loch Lomond". And some of these recordings, thanks to Nathan and Daniel, made this a powerhouse album in my opinion.

Subscribe at Celtfather.com if you want to find out more about some of the songs in the future.
And if you have any questions, email me.

St. Paddy's Day or St. Patty's Day? #29604 Mar 202500:29:24

St. Patrick's Day is almost here. So it's time to definitively answer the old question. Is it Saint Paddy's day or Saint Patty's day? Plus, I'll give you 17 amazing Celtic bands that you should listen to for St. Patrick's Day. Music from Socks in the Frying Pan, Marc Gunn & Jesse Ferguson, and Blackwillow Starling.

This is Folk Songs & Stories #296

0:25 - Socks in the Frying Pan "Ireland's Struggle" from Waiting for Inspiration

4:47 - WELCOME TO FOLK SONGS & STORIES

I am Marc Gunn. I'm a Celtic and Folk musician and also host of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, an hour-long radio show of some of the best indie Celtic music online. That was…

If you're new to this show, please subscribe. You can do that PubSong.com or Just send an email to follow@celtfather.

5:39 - IS IT ST PADDY'S DAY OR ST PATTY'S DAY

St Paddy's Day is the shortened version of St Patrick's Day. However, that shortened name is often misspelled. It should be spelled Paddy. Not Patty. Patty is a girls name. Paddy is short for the Irish name Padraig.

That's from my 11 St Patrick's Day Facts episode of this podcast.

I learned from The Daily Difference, the newsletter of the Carbon Almanac that the Episocopal Church used their environmental voice with their wallet.

In 2015, the Episcopal Church made a commitment to divest fossil fuel investments from its holdings of around $500 million. And they honored that commitment just before the end of 2024.

We all have the power of our voice, our wallet and our time to support climate initiatives.

We are all in a weird position these days. There's a billionaire stripping government services from people who need them, just so he can get a huge tax cut.

No matter where you stand on that situation, I don't think there's a single person in America who think that billionaires and corporations need a tax cut. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Sadly, we may not have the power to stop corporate entitlements. But we do have the power of our wallets. We can support businesses and organizations who are doing good things to protect the environment and protect individuals like you and me.

Take a moment and think about where your money is going. If you're gonna play the stock market, will you consider divesting your fossil fuel investments?

PUB TALK

Welcome to the Pub Songs Podcast. Yes, the name changed... again. And actually, for the foreseeable future, I'm not running regular shows. I'm gonna do something scary, that I've thought about for a long time. I'm gonna share each of my albums in full, from start to finish,

Of course, you can already stream all my music on Spotify, Google Play, Amazon Music, and lots other places. But now I'm going to share the show the podcast form as well.

Back in the 70s, DJs played entire albums from start to finish. I decided to do that on the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. It was a great success for several artists. But I'm just like all artists. I get nervous about giving everything all my music away for free... even if I know it's a smart marketing move. I learned this lesson years ago on MP3.com.

Since Halloween is just around the corner, it seemed appropriate to release my Happy Halloween Songs of Death as it could be called. Or for the ones you know my music Happy Songs of Death.

This album was first released on August 20, 2009. It  was produced by Ari Koinuma. He provided all of the background instrumentation. I did have some guest vocalists including Michael Younger, who died before the release of the album. It is dedicated to Michael.

Show #48 was a tribute show I recorded for Michael back in 2009.

Happy Songs of Death had two different album covers. One was designed by Nikki O'Shea. I called it "Death's Autoharp". It featured the Grim Reaper playing the autoharp with Nikki's popular comic book art style.

The second was designed by Celtic artist Ingrid Houwers. I called that "The Wake" because there's Celtic death theme with merriment. It actually almost has a Celtic/Mexican Day of the Dead feel to it. Really cool.

The songs are a mix of traditional Irish and Scottish songs as well as some traditional folk songs and several original songs as well. Subscribe at Celtfather.com if you want to find out more about some of the songs in the future.

And if you have any questions, email me.

PUB TALK

Every year, I host a Celtic Invasion Vacation. We travel to different places around the world and experience the local culture and sights of the region. There's no traveling place to place. We get to know a region.

Last year, we went to Brittany in France. It was incredible. One of my favorite places was Cairn of Gavrinis. You can get a taste of the cairn along with some music and commentary on my YouTube channel.

Memorial Day Pub Songs #16820 May 201800:51:47

We're gonna honor those who died while serving in the armed forces for Memorial Day. I picked a few songs for soldiers as well as those of parting and even one that's an satirical twist on how people celebrate the holiday. I also have my own little memorial for a musician friend who passed away recently.

We have music from Marc Gunn, The Selkie Girls, The Rogues, 3 Pints Gone, Jed Marum, Bedlam Bards, Jiggernaut, Scooter Muse, The Changing Room.

The Lost Garden of Heligan's support for The Royal British Legion over the past few years has been fantastic, and we hope to keep our partnership strong for many years to come as we continue to keep alive the memory of the fallen and support the future of the living."

PUB TALK

The next CeltfatherLive concert is scheduled for Sunday, May 20 at 8 PM CST. Register at Celtfather.com/watch to join me for this free concert on YouTube.

I finished up a video challenge on YouTube last month. It was called Video Every Day in April. I happily completed the challenge. So you can watch 30 new videos in a playlist I created. They are not all music. Some are vlogs for Gunn Runners and others are for musicians.

That said, I have a bunch of new videos I've released. Every Tuesday, I put out a new music video. Right now, it's just me singing songs. But in the future, I hope to have more produced official music videos.

In the meantime, I hope you'll check out my videos of "She's Shiny", "Browncoat Baby", "Spancil Hill" "Jasper Tabby Kitty Cat-y", "Lord of the Pounce" and "Molly Malone". I think the videos are getting better. I'd love your thoughts.

I released two new singles to Patrons. The one in April is a comedy song called "Why Do You Torture Me?". The May one is of the "Mingulay Cat Song". There's also a podcast all about that episode on Celtfather Music & Travel. Check the link in the shownotes for details.
