Episode 3: It's a Portmanteau15 Jun 202601:02:51

Welcome back to Procrastiknitting with Elyssa and Lydia!

In this episode Elyssa gets a visit from a surprise guest but the show must go on.

Lydia went to Brooklyn General Store to buy buttons for her Port Jacket. She also considered buying yarn for the Mantaray but wasn't ready to commit.

Elyssa has been working on her Sophie Hood and it is growing slowly but it will be worth it. Lydia and Elyssa debate the merits of the Sophie scarf; is it beginner friendly? why is it so fiddly? HOW many thousands of these little doodads have been made???

Later, the buds chat about what technique Elyssa would like to learn about next. They discuss the differences between fair isle, stranded colorwork, and intarsia. Elyssa shares some of her favorite resources; Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible, Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Stitch Dictionary, and The Ultimate All-Around Stitch Dictionary. She recently tried the Indian Cross stitch. Freaky!

When is it polite to ask a stranger if they made their sweater? What if you/re sure you recognize the Manos yarn? (Also, Clasica is discontinued now?! Should we stock up?)

Elyssa dreams of a Lopapeysa (perhaps in traditional Lettlopi or Plutolopi).

We're excited to participate in the #BirdColonyKAL hosted by Libby @StarLitKnits_ and @knitforwildlife. We'll share what we make on our Instagram account.

Got a knitting question? Email us at procrastiknittingpod@gmail.com and we'll do our best to help (or, at least, commiserate)!

See ya next Monday!

Lydia is almost done with her Port Jacket. She's knitting the ribbing inside out.

The gals discuss Knitty.com and the viral patterns of the early aughts (such as the Clapotis).

Elyssa is knitting the Pippa Dress. She didn't swatch and paid the price but she's learning how to read a lace chart (!) and she'll try again with new yarn.

Lydia had been planning to start the Storm Sweater Junior but is being tempted by the siren call of the Loon (Sweater).

Thanks so much for being here!

Love ya!

Episode 5: Bury Me at WIP Mountain29 Jun 202600:58:06

Welcome back to Procrastiknitting with Elyssa and Lydia!

In this episode Elyssa shows us her exciting yarn purchase from Purl Soho and we discuss whether she should knit a Charm Blanket or an Alpenglow. Tough choice! Lydia mentions a Very Pink Knits episode in which the challenges of the Alpenglow are discussed.

Lydia has finished her Port Jacket and she loves it! She even made a project page on Ravelry. She's hoping to make the Baby Loon Sweater next. She might use some of the yarn from her very first cardigan that she unraveled

Elyssa's 21st Century Austen Heroine is on hold. She has been working a bit on her Airy Blouse in Woolerton Estate yarn and her Sophie Hood is making slow but steady progress as well. She also has a Pippa Dress on the needles and she's loving the lace knitting process.

Lydia discovered SchmookieKnits and immediately fell in love with these whimsical creatures. She and Elyssa are both knitting the Butterfly.

Lydia will soon be acquiring a spinning wheel and is dreaming of the hand dyed wool from Hedgehog Fibres. And if we talk about spinning wheels we obvi talk about Rumplestiltskin. Both the creepy classic and the modern chill

We briefly touch on the magic of slow fashion (really, really slow fashion).

Elyssa models a baby hat because her head is so mini.

That's it! Love ya!

Episode 6: But The Problem Is...06 Jul 202600:55:34

Welcome back to Procrastiknitting! In this episode we attempt to regulate our nervous systems and look cool doing it. Lydia gives an update on her move to St Paul, MN. She’s been swimming in the Mississippi and life is good.  Their Schmookie Knits butterflies are coming along and they are pretty darn cute. Lydia mentions our patron saint Elizabeth Zimmerman. Lydia is using Malabrigo Worsted, Brooklyn Tweed Shelter (rip), and some handspun. Elyssa is using Drops Brushed Alpaca. Knitted bunnies might be next. Lydia is still working on a Lyalya Hoodie ABC in Malabrigo Worsted. It’s a great little travel project. Lydia is still considering knitting a Baby Loon Sweater but she found out that it involves ladderback jacquard…  Elyssa has cast on a modified Alpenglow Blanket using her Linen Quill Minis. They briefly discuss the Charm Blanket. Elyssa unraveled her Pippa Dress after she discovered some mistakes in the lace knitting. Lydia gives her some advice on using stitch markers and lifelines for easier knitting. Lydia shows off her finished Port Jacket. It’s perfect.

Episode 7: What Was in the Basement & Other Horrors13 Jul 202600:42:53

~It’s flashback time~

Welcome back to Procrastiknitting with Elyssa and Lydia!

This week we are bringing you an episode we recorded back in the spring. In this episode we discuss the origin of the pod and also how we each got into knitting.

Lydia is babysitting and has just put the baby to bed which reminds Elyssa of an episode of Euphoria

Elyssa is having trouble with her Sophie Hood. Some day Lydia will convince her to use stitch markers…

The gals sing the praises of their pod mentor, Victoria. Hi, Victoria!

E and L discuss the origin story of the podcast and a serendipitous exchange that occurred at the Showplace Tag Sale.

Elyssa explains how she learned to knit from her grandma. Also, eyelash yarn - What is it, anyway? And what was that thing Elyssa’s sister found in the basement?

Teenage Lydia taught herself how to knit using this exact booklet.

Have you ever noticed how characters knit on tv?

Lydia shares a couple of crafting horror stories. Skip this part if you’re squeamish.💀

Elyssa mentions her fave ceramicist; Menlo Mud (but please be careful with that metal straw!!).

Elyssa had a tender waxing experience and might know how to pronounce "hirsute".

Don’t you just love a fancy grocery store? Del Deli delivers.

Elyssa opines about the coffee ice cream sodas from Friendly's and is figuring out how to replicate them at home.

And that’s all for this week! We hope you enjoyed it.

Episode 9: Chuck Dickens27 Jul 202600:53:59

This one is from last week! We had a little tech difficulty because Lydia didn’t plug in her mic properly. Whoops! If some timelines feel weird, don’t worry about it too much and enjoy the ride. We sure do!

Elyssa shows off her gorgeous project bag and her very creepy childhood book.

We show off our finished Schmookie Knits Butterflies and they are cute!! Check out Elyssa’s photoshoot.

Elyssa is working on her Outline Tank again.

Lydia tries on her Lyalya Hood in progress and it’s a… tight squeeze.

Lydia also got brave and attended a knitting meetup hosted by @pigseyeknit at Bad Weather Brewing (every 1st and 3rd Tuesday!).

We take a moment to admire Elyssa’s knitting bag some more and then Elyssa describes how she’s been taking time to care for her hands. You can take a quick break and do that too- here’s how!

Elyssa mentions Scrappy Checkers.

Elyssa has been to the library. She got Knitting Workshop by Elizabeth Zimmerman and Kaffe Knits Again by Kaffe Fassett. Both are absolute GEMS.

Have you ever seen a Kaffe Fassett design in the wild? Lydia saw a Big Flower Jacket and nearly crashed her bike.

Elyssa dreams of knitting Kaffe’s Foolish Virgins someday.

Lydia miiight knit the Unicorn Tapestry Cardigan.

Elyssa also checked out the book Making Marls. Very cool!

For the record: we bring our Emotional Support Projects with us everywhere we go.

And that’s it for this episode!

Episode 8: Unhinged and Sweatier than Ever20 Jul 202600:46:12

Hope you’re ready for a weird one! Technical difficulties have resulted in both of us recording from our phones and Lydia is in a closet. It's a wild ride!

Elyssa found the mystery scarf that was discovered in her parents’ basement. Here’s a similar yarn in case you’d like to try to make your own!!

Lydia models her Lyalya Hoodie and I think we can all agree that it looks great.

Elyssa has cast on another Gumnut Hat.

Elyssa has been going to Knit & Pearls and Lydia checked out The Yarnery. While at K&P, Elyssa got to touch some very luxurious yarns including Cascade Suri Seda and Lang Yarns Yak.

Lydia had a personal meltdown and then cast on a Marshland.

Elyssa is working on a Mini Bunny by Schmookie Knits.

Elyssa is also still working on her version of the Alpenglow Blanket. She’s almost got the math figured out! She cast on the Garden Vines Bandana and she’s getting ready to start a Pressed Flowers Kerchief.

This IG post really sums up Lydia's creative process (deranged).

Anyway, were you also traumatized by Fern Gully as a child?

Elyssa bought yarn in her sleep and it’s gorgeous. She’ll use the Qing Fibers Teddy to knit a Parquet Vest.

Episode 12: Dingly Dangly 17 Aug 202600:56:39

We’re back, baby!

Please excuse any background sounds, there’s major construction happening next door to Lydia and her other recording studio (her kids’ closet) is just too hot.

Elyssa has been staying at her parents’ house and she’s been unearthing many treasures. So far she’s found the beads from her old dreadlocks and the skirt she made from neck ties in the early aughts. Here’s a tutorial in case you need one too.

Lydia finished a Berry Baby Hat for her niece. She used Malabrigo Worsted in the colors Rose Damask and Lettuce.

Elyssa gives us a Mix Tape Tee update… it’s gorgeous! She’s also really loving working with Linen Quill. It’s mostly going great but Elyssa did get a little help from Laura at Knit & Pearls. Thanks, Laura!

Kaffe Fassett is briefly mentioned (with appropriate praise and adoration).

There is a little Pressed Flowers chat.

We chat about our excitement for the new Schmookie Knits pattern (a snail!!).

Lydia shows off her recent visible mending. She used some fabric hexagons from her English paper piecing project.

We do a little Malabrigo deep dive based on a listener question; that sponsorship deal is gonna come in any day now!

Lydia admires the Helix Pullover by Jessie Maed.

Here’s Quailman, just in case you don’t know who that is yet. Oh, and here’s Katamari.

Thanks for listening! We love you guys!

Episode 11: Top Secret Option C10 Aug 202600:55:47

Welcome to episode 11! Grab your emotional support knitting and pull up a chair.

Lydia is wearing her Kinikin Cardigan by Good Night, Day. She knit it in Loopy Mango Mohair So Soft in the color Tiramisu. The fabric is like nothing you’ve ever felt before.

Elyssa puts on her finished Cardi du Coeur! It is gorgeous! Everyone please clap.

After going back and forth between a couple different blanket patterns for her Purl Soho Linen Quill Minis, Elyssa has taken a different direction entirely- the Mix Tape Tee by Wool & Pine and it’s going great so far.

Lydia has cast on a Berry Baby Hat for her niece. She’s using Malabrigo Worsted (duh!) in Damask Rose. Lydia picked up some Malabrigo Nube roving in the colorway Pocion. Lydia has also been spinning some Merino-Silk from Miss Babs (discontinued, apparently) in the color Hoarfrost.

Elyssa teaches us a little about why people hoard and references this article.

Elyssa finished her Pressed Flowers Kerchief. She’s working on an I-cord tie for it. She also got to visit Madison Wool, a yarn shop in CT. She spent some time knitting and chatting with the owner and got inspired to knit the Flutter Buttshorts by Jessie Maed. She even bought some yarn for them!

We are both geeking out over the work of Anna Husemann, her new Beaded Treasure Purse pattern is stunning.

We’re thinking about knitting the same sweater for our kids. Scrappy Checkers might be the one. We both have some Knit Picks Wool of the Andes we might use. Elyssa probably won’t swatch and you can't make her! @me_and_simone made a post recently that really illustrated this concept of swatching as a thief of creative joy.

Thanks for joining us this week! See ya next monday!

Episode 10: Flowers, Flies, & Phish03 Aug 202600:55:56

Hi friends! Welcome to Episode 10! Woo!

In this episode Elyssa reveals that she is a major Phish fan and has been attending multiple shows at MSG this week. Here’s the song that started it all for her.

Lydia has been attending water aerobics classes. What a dream!

Elyssa had to pause her Pressed Flowers Kerchief (free pattern!) when she realized she made an error. Ransom Canyon may be partly to blame.

Lydia is also making a Pressed Flowers (inspired by Elyssa, obviously) and after a bit of a learning curve she is zooming right along.

Lydia’s Marshland sweater in on a time out. The colors are just not vibing for her. Time to rip. @Lou.Dangit is briefly mentioned. We both love watching their creative process.

Elyssa is considering the Antipodes sweater. But there’s also the Sophie Hood, her mohair top, the Pressed Flowers, etc… How many wips is too many (is there a limit?).

Elyssa is doing some pest prevention for her stash- jumbo Ziplocks at the ready.

Lydia picked up an older project; a mohair hat made of 2 strands of mohair held together. She doesn’t really like this project either! Go figure. She’s using the Big Cuff Hat pattern as a guide.

Have you seen the work of Nancy Marchant? It is stunning! Go look at it now!

Lydia found a Weir Crafts Kit at a thrift store and it was an absolute thrill.

Elyssa’s story of Phish concert life totally astounds Lydia and then Lydia tells a story that makes them both want to puke. Speaking of gross stuff; remember this creepy tale? Also, Lydia recommends Scary Stories to Tell on the Pod for a spooky laugh.

A bit more random rambling and that's it!

Thanks so much for ten funky episodes! It's been a wild ride so far and we're excited to keep going.
