| Episode 359: The 11th Edition Adeptus Custodes Codex Review | 03 Oct 2026 | 02:46:31 | |
The third codex of 11th Edition is here, and it's solid gold! Well, auramite, actually, because in this episode, we're discussing the new Adeptus Custodes codex. The Emperor's bodyguards have had an almost-full line refresh, as well as having their Imperial Armour models converted to plastic and rolled into the codex. So, how do they fare? How much flexibility does the new Martial Ka'tah system grant them? Which detachments are takers, and which ones are maybe best left in the book? What do the new statlines do for them? And how will those new (old) toys work into the codex? All this, plus a look at the Autumn Preview!
Thank you to Games Workshop for the copy of the codex to review!

| Episode 358: The 11th Edition Space Marine Codex Review | 19 Sep 2026 | 03:24:15 | |
The second 11th Edition codex has landed, and it's full of poster boys in power armor! In this episode, we review the brand new Space Marines codex. Everything about this codex is big - big page count, big unit roster, and big changes to how the army plays. We dig into the returning Combat Doctrines system, look at the new detachments and how they can be used to build a variety of marine armies, and examine the changes to all the units in the book. Who gets the biggest glow-up, who takes the hardest hit with the nerf bat, and who serves a completely different roll now? It's a big book, so this is a big episode!
Thanks to Games Workshop for providing us with a copy of the codex to review!

| Episode 357: The Return of Listener Mail! | 07 Sep 2026 | 02:35:11 | |
It's time for something we haven't done in a long time - a mailbag episode! In the last few weeks, we've gathered a critical mass of messages, and we decided to revive the old listener mail section for this episode. From new narrative events, to answering some critiques, to delving into our favorite Black Library authors, to discussing who should be featured for every faction, we talk about a bit of everything! Also, we discuss the news about Space Marines, their stat boosts, and the end of the Firstborn marines.

| Episode 356: The 11th Edition Ork Codex Review | 22 Aug 2026 | 02:31:39 | |
The first codex of 11th Edition is in our hands, and it's loaded with green! In this episode, we dive into the brand new Orks codex and get our first taste of what codexes will look like in the new edition. We look at what's included, what's not, and what's new in this book. Does this book feel complete? Does the new detachment system provide a decent army-building system? What's the rule that most excites us from this book? Are Orks as pushed as everyone fears? And did they just try to make aircraft good? We look at all that and more in our review!

| Episode 355: The Pain Points of 11th Edition | 16 Aug 2026 | 01:59:34 | |
Change is often uncomfortable, and editions changes are even more so. 11th Edition has brought a lot of changes, both small and large, to Warhammer 40K, and most of them have been pretty well-received. That said, there are a few things that have brought a bit of extra friction to the game, had unexpected impacts, or just aren't quite working as anticipated. In this episode, we look at three particular pain points that impact the armies we build, the tables we play on, and the missions we play. Are any of them deal-breakers? No, but if we address them now and figure out constructive ways to work with - or around - them, hopefully we can smooth them out and have an easier, better gaming experience! Also, Kevin and Richard bring a report back from GenCon!

| Episode 354: Dominatus | 01 Aug 2026 | 01:59:31 | |
One of Games Workshop's stated goals is to bridge the gap between narrative and competitive play, and the Dominatus narrative deck is their first attempt to build that bridge. In this episode, we're going to dive into the deck and give our thoughts, along with Rob's experience with running and playing in a Dominatus league. Does the deck deliver a solid narrative experience? How well does it bring narrative and matched play together? Does it fix the issues with Crusade? How well does it handle narrative play ranging from a weekend event to a multi-month league? And what else can you do with it? Also, we discuss the July rules update, with what changes we expected, what changes we didn't, and our thoughts on the app as the primary rules distribution system.

| Episode 349: The Return of Yarrick | 25 Apr 2026 | 02:11:03 | |
The reports of his death were only slightly exaggerated, but Commissar Yarrick has returned! In this episode, we take a look at the new Return of Yarrick narrative supplement, as well as the Armoured Gauntlet rules supplement. Has Yarrick arrived just in time to save Armageddon again? And will we get a kit for his custom Baneblade? Are the expanded vehicle rules too little, too much, or just right? And of all the narrative supplements, which one is our favorite? Also, we work through the various 11th Edition rules reveals and try to piece together what this means for how the game will play and how it might affect your armies!

| Episode 1: Let's Get Started! (15th Anniversary Re-release) | 17 Apr 2026 | 01:19:38 | |
15 years ago today, we released our first episode on the internet. That's been 350 episodes ago, and we've come a long way since then, but every journey starts with a single step. That inaugural episode was all about getting started! Rob, Dennis, Richard, and original host Jon tackled the subject of how to get started in Warhammer 40K. We discussed how we got started in the game, and various aspects of getting into the game for the first time - picking an army, getting the minis, and learning to play. Things were vaguely complicated by recording during a thunderstorm, but we managed to hit all the bases without getting electrocuted. The equipment was primitive, and the sound quality is rough, but everything that came after is because of this little episode.

11th Edition was officially announced at Adepticon, but details on the rules changes are still sketchy - until now! With that, it's time to peel back the curtain and discover what changes are on the way for the next edition. We'd be fools not to give you the 4-1-1 on all the details, so strap in - two hours of an 11th Edition deep dive await (well, give or take 90 minutes)!

It's no secret that the next edition of Warhammer 40K is coming later this year, but what is currently secret is how it'll change the game. In this episode, we break out our crystal ball, analyze current trends, and make our best guesses as to what may or may not change in 11th Edition. Will the edition be a massive rewrite? | Episode 344: 500 Worlds and The Maelstrom | 14 Feb 2026 | 02:15:50
It's time for a narrative review double-header! As the end of Tenth Edition draws closer, Games Workshop is rolling out narrative sets to highlight some of the hotspots in the galaxy, and in this episode, we look at the first two releases. In part one, we delve into the 500 Worlds set, featuring the Ultramarines trying to reclaim the lost worlds of Ultramar, as well as a sprawling map-based campaign system. Does this sector-wide campaign system scratch the itch for high-level strategic play, or is it too complex for the average group? Then, in part two, we dive headfirst into The Maelstrom, home of the pirate tyrant Huron Blackheart and his Red Corsairs. How does its notoriety-focus campaign compare to the 500 Worlds system? And does the Crucible of Champions answer all our prayers for opening up a toybox of character options? Listen to find out!

| Episode 340: Faction Focus - Space Marines | 09 Dec 2025 | 02:08:02 | |
It's time to kick off our Faction Focus series with a look at the most iconic force in Warhammer 40,000 - the Space Marines. If you've seen anything about Warhammer, you're probably familiar with Space Marines, but what exactly are they? Where do they come from, lore-wise? Why are they the most well-rounded force in the game? And how many different armies are built off of the framework of one codex? In this episode, we take a look at the history, the gameplay styles, and the various variants of the Adeptus Astartes. Also, a brief discussion of the World Championships Warhammer preview, and the different experiences those of us at home had compared to those of us at the event in person.

| Episode 336: The History of Characters and the Character Encyclopedia | 13 Oct 2025 | 02:27:07 | |
If there’s one thing that Warhammer 40,000 is loaded with, it’s unique characters who are often pivotal to the story. But how have those characters been reflected on the tabletop? In this episode, inspired by the new Warhammer 40,000 Character Encyclopedia, we dive into all things character-related! In part one, we look back at the history for rules for characters, especially special named characters from Rogue Trader through 10th Edition. Then, in part two, we look into the Encyclopedia and each pick five of our favorite characters. Come join us as we pick through 38 years of rules, discover some interesting bits of lore, and maybe even learn a new word or two!

The time is finally upon us – the final codex (or at least, the last index to become a codex) of 10th Edition is here! In this episode, we delve into the new Drukhari codex, to see what the dark spiky cousins of the Aeldari are bringing in their new book. How is Power from Pain getting reworked? Who made the cut into the codex and who didn’t? Why did every single unit get an update? And which detachments bring their particularly poisonous flavor to the tabletop? Also, we delve into the most recent balance dataslate and see who got the biggest buffs and nerfs this time around.

| Episode 333: 10th Edition Imperial Knights | 07 Sep 2025 | 02:00:24 | |
We’ve covered the spiky evil giant stompy robots of the Chaos Knights a few episodes ago, and so now it’s time for their less-spiky loyalist cousins, the Imperial Knights! We delve into the new codex, examine the changes between it and the index, and talk through the new detachments included. Did they somehow make Code Chivalric even better? Does the Knight Defender do what it says on the tin? Did they tone down the most pushed knights? Is it worth it to fight over a line in the sand? And can this book make people who don’t care for knights want to play them? Also, we make a brief dive into Kill Team as Rob reviews the new Tomb World box!

We are two years into 10th Edition, and it’s time for our yearly scoring of how the game is delivering on various promises. With 12 more codexes, 2 more narrative campaign books, a new tournament mission pack, 30 extra detachments, and 4 quarterly balance updates released since last time, there’s a lot of change. Has the game continued on a solid trajectory? Is faction balance still steady? Is the game’s streamlining delivering the increased ease and speed of play? Has codex quality been solid, or are we still seeing power and quality discrepancies? And is the game accessible, both to new players and to veteran wargamers? Let’s break it down and find out!

We may be down two hosts, but that doesn’t mean we’re coming up short this episode – it’s time to delve deep into the new Leagues of Votann codex! In part one, we look at the new Votann models and dig into the updated lore of the Kin. Then, in part two, we look at the completely reworked army rule and all the datasheets to see what’s changed in what the Votann models do on the tabletop. Finally, in part three, we examine the codex’s five detachments. How do Yield Points play in a way that Judgement tokens did not? How will those new tallboy Ironkin play on the tabletop? Then, it’s off to the first of two codex reviews with a look at the new Black Templars codex supplement. How do these overly zealous crusaders fare in this new book? Finally, we look at the second codex – the Grey Knights! What is the dark secret of the Sons of Titan? Are their teleporting shenanigans still on point? Have they gone from defense to offense? | Episode 329: Catching Up with Crusade: Armageddon | 07 Jul 2025 | 02:20:29
It’s time to finish catching up with all the things we’ve put off due to Midwest Conquest and multiple new codexes, so as promised, it’s time for our look at Crusade: Armageddon – but that’s not all! In part one, we dive into the balance dataslate, points updates, and new detachments released both before _and_ after the Chaos Knights codex. Will the Lord Discordant finally make it back onto the tabletop? Are T’au finally fixed? Did GW go too far with the Knight updates? Then, in part two, we examine Crusade: Armageddon from both narrative and gameplay viewpoints. Does the Imperium get a win for once? How many mechanics can you layer on top of a mission? | Episode 328: 10th Edition Chaos Knights | 16 Jun 2025 | 01:46:57
The Year of Chaos continues, and this installment stomps in with giant robotic feet! In this episode, we take a look at the new Chaos Knights codex. In the past, we’ve been pretty firm that Knights aren’t the most fun army to play against, and Chaos Knights in particular have been pretty one-note with the “Oops, All War-Dogs” build. Does this new codex address these issues? Are the big spiky knights making a comeback? Are the War Dog players left in the cold? And how will it feel to play against this army of evil metal giants? The viking-themed fighters from Fenris return, and we take a look at how well they’ve managed the conversion from index to codex. Did they finally get sagas right? Are the new Space Wolf terminators worthy of the tabletop? Are Wulfen swinging for the fences again? And how much difference does a chapter keyword make? We discuss this and more! Also, a look at the new Chapter Approved mission deck, with its anticipated Asymmetric missions and Challenger cards.

In an edition where psychic powers aren’t really a thing, how has Games Workshop made a psychic army function? How will the new version of Cabal of Sorcerers change things up for Thousand Sons players? Are Sekhetar Robots the new hotness, or an odd add-on? How do daemons play in the new book? The Year of Chaos is now in full swing, with not one, but two Chaos codexes dropping simultaneously! In this episode, we dive into the new Death Guard and World Eaters codexes. In part one, it’s Nurgle time, as we pick through plagues with the Death Guard. Has their contagion-based army rule changed? Are they finally tough enough to justify their bloat? And how many poxwalkers is actually enough? Then, in part two, it’s time for skulls and blood with the World Eaters. Can you still win at the casino of Khorne? Is the return of Khorne Daemonkin all that Kevin was waiting for? And what’s the most useless unit in the World Eaters codex? Strap yourselves in as we tackle a double-codex review!

| Episode 323: The Adepticon 2025 Previews | 14 Apr 2025 | 01:32:19 | |
Adepticon has come and gone, and it brought a new set of Warhammer previews! Games Workshop gave us a little bit of everything, from an army for the Old World never before seen on the tabletop, to a new pair of Kill Teams duking it out, to several 40K army updates, to a brand new Crusade book! We dig into the reveals, and give our thoughts – what’s the thing that got us most excited, and what’s the most polished turd of the bunch? Also, a head’s up – we start off with an unhappy but necessary discussion of the new tariffs and what impact that might have on our hobbies and the places we buy them from. We’re not going to let that dampen our excitement for what’s coming, though!
(Tariffs talk is between 1:58 and 18:50, for those of you who’d like to skip it.)

The next Crusade book is upon us, and it’s time to return to the Nachmund Gauntlet! In past editions, the fighting was mostly focused on Vigilus, but this time around, GW is focusing on Sangua Terra at the other end of the Gauntlet. In this episode, we take a look at the new Crusade book and discuss its narrative, its campaign system, and its specific Crusade rules. Does the Imperium come out on top this time? Is this the most complex campaign system GW has created for 10th edition? Should surgical deep strikes be a core rule in the game? | Episode 312: Vehicles in 40K, Then and Now | 25 Nov 2024 | 02:18:29
In our last episode, we discussed old mechanics from 40K’s history. This time, we’re focusing on one specific aspect of the game – vehicles. From the days of Third Edition with armor facings and penetration rolls, to glance-locking vehicles in Fifth Edition, to the introduction of Flyers in Sixth Edition, all the way through the Eighth and Tenth Edition reboots, we delve into the history of tanks and transports and such. We also look at how vehicles are (and possibly aren’t) working in Tenth Edition, where we think any issues might lie, and whether or not Games Workshop is likely to do much about it. We also take a small tangent to look at holiday bundle sales and what that might mean for how people are approaching this year’s collections.
