| S6 EP185: Kacee Driver: Infertility + Severe Endo + IVF Recommendation / Healing Through TCM + Nutrition / Hospital Birth with Student Midwife / Homebirth | 31 Aug 2025 | 02:03:25 | |
Today I’m joined by Kacee, a mother of two whose story is a powerful testament to the healing that unfolds when we take our health into our own hands. After many years of being dismissed by doctors and receiving a severe endometriosis diagnosis, Kacee was told her only path to motherhood would be through IVF. But instead of accepting that as her story, she and her husband committed to rebuilding their health from the ground up - through the support of traditional Chinese medicine, nourishing food, bodywork, mindset practices, and conscious living. Along the way they experienced loss, but also the deep transformation that comes with reclaiming responsibility for your body and your journey. Her first pregnancy became a turning point, supported by a student midwife and an obstetrician who honoured her choices. When it came time to welcome her daughter, she carried that trust even further - choosing to birth at home, within a safe and familiar circle. Kacee’s story is a beautiful reflection of what becomes possible when we refuse to give up, when we find support that aligns with our values, and what happens when we lean into the truth that our bodies are not broken. | S6 EP184: Laura Bergen-Roberts: GD Diagnosis + Policy Pressure / 42+3 Hospital Birth with PPH / Healing Homebirth | 23 Aug 2025 | 01:15:56
This week I’m joined by Laura, a mother of two whose journey into motherhood began with loss, resilience, and ultimately, transformation. After an early miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy that required surgery, falling pregnant with her daughter felt deeply healing. Yet her first birth inside the system carried its own challenges - a gestational diabetes label, weeks of policy pressure, and the weight of self-advocacy that left her bracing for battle rather than softening into trust. Though she went on to birth she had planned at 42 weeks, a postpartum haemorrhage cast a long shadow over what might have been a fully empowering experience. For her second birth, she chose to be at home and entered labour with a profound sense of trust. In the early hours of New Year’s Eve, she brought her baby into the world swiftly and instinctively, receiving him with her own hands - a deeply healing contrast to her first experience. Laura’s story reflects the freedom that comes when we step beyond “good girl” conditioning and into the full magic and capability that birth holds. | S6 EP175: Elise Cox: Hospital Water Birth, HG & The Power of Visualisation | 22 Mar 2025 | 00:43:25
Today, I’m joined by Elise, a Scottish-born mother who used the power of visualisation and intentional preparation to create the birth she had always dreamed of. From watching home birth videos to mentally rehearsing her labour each night, she approached birth with deep trust in her body and the process. Despite battling hyperemesis throughout her entire pregnancy, Elise never lost her excitement for becoming a mother. When labour began, she leaned into everything she had practiced, surrendering to each wave with confidence. Her water birth was everything she had envisioned - intense, empowering, and deeply transformative. In today’s episode, Elise shares how mental preparation shaped her birth, the tools that helped her through labour, and the unforgettable moments she shared with her mother, who flew from Scotland to be by her side as she welcomed her daughter earthside. | S3 EP84: Emma Usher - Traumatic hospital birth + Healing home birth | 15 Jun 2022 | 01:16:07
Today we hear the two contrasting births of Gold Coast mother, Emma. Reaching 42 weeks during her first pregnancy not only brought intense stress to Emma but the pressure on her was building to be induced. The excitement that filled her when she went into spontaneous labour was short-lived after a ride to the hospital halted her labour in its tracks, putting her “on the clock” to get things progressing. The trauma she carried from that experience left her questioning whether she could endure birth again.
A change in lifestyle and exposure to positive homebirth stories, re-instilled Emma’s faith in the power of birth, leading her to manifest a transformative and healing experience second time around.

| S3 EP83: Ciara Tallon - Two hospital births | 08 Jun 2022 | 00:46:16 | |
On today’s show we hear from postpartum doula, Ciara. Growing up in foster care made it hard for Ciara to connect with others so when she struggled to bond with her baby in those first few days after giving birth, she felt she was broken. Six years later she conceived her second child and although a complete surprise, she knew she wanted a different birth experience. A calm birth course and the right support around her ignited the confidence she needed to believe in and trust herself when making decisions that were unfavourable with the hospital. She describes her second birth as a deeply healing experience, gifting her that instant connection she once believed was unreachable.

| S3 EP82: Olivia - Positive hospital birth + Homebirth | 25 May 2022 | 00:51:25 | |
On today’s show we hear the two birth stories from holistic health coach and postpartum doula, Olivia. Although Olivia is a registered nurse, she admits to knowing very little about birth and the preparation needed to support a positive birth experience. She got lucky when a friend of hers recommended she join her hospitals midwifery-led care model; crediting that continuity of care for her positive hospital birth experience.
Left feeling confused by the lack of positive birth stories she was exposed to and innately questioning the need to birth in a hospital, she dived deeply into the physiology of birth and what environment is best to support the natural hormonal flow of labour; ultimately choosing to birth her second child at home.
Although both of her experiences were positive ones, Olivia shares the contrasts between her two births and the insights she gained on reflection.

Today’s show features the perspective from both mum and dad, with Laura and partner Giau, sharing the births of their two daughters.

A hypnobirthing course helped her to feel armed with knowledge, but once labouring in the hospital and faced with the pressure to make decisions clouded in urgency, Laura and Giau realised how quickly ones confidence could be stripped away.
When they conceived their second child, a visit to their prospective private midwife sealed their path to homebirth. This is a journey filled with love, connection and deep reverence.

On today’s show we hear Melanie share the birth stories of her three daughters, including twins, and the compelling discoveries she made through a challenging postpartum. Following the birth of her first daughter, which she describes as a mostly positive experience, she suffered in silence completely unaware that she was showing signs of significant depletion. Although she sought out answers to why she was feeling this way, she was told that what she was experiencing were merely signs of motherhood. It wasn’t until her furthered studies in Naturopathy that she began to finally unveil the real cause of her struggles. Left astounded by the difference in her postpartum experiences after the birth of her twins, she went on to specialise in postpartum recovery, fertility and pregnancy care; guiding and supporting women along their own journeys to be the best version of themselves. This is an episode that highlights the importance of self-care and taking the steps needed to support your body, and in turn mind, throughout your pregnancy and postpartum.

| S6 Ep173 | Kassie Callaghan: Induction at 42+ Weeks, 4.5kg Hospital Water Birth, Empowering Home Birth & How Birth Interventions Shape Postpartum | 01 Mar 2025 | 01:56:07 | |
Today, we’re joined by Kassie - mother of three, small business owner, and the creative force behind Milk and Poppy, a mum-and-baby brand that grew from her own motherhood journey. Kassie’s birth experiences have ranged from a hospital induction to an unassisted home birth, each one shaping her deep trust in the body’s innate wisdom. Her first birth, an induction at 42+ weeks, was a positive experience at the time, but left her feeling unheard and overwhelmed. Her second, a 4.5 kg baby born in the water, was an empowering, intervention-free birth, yet the aftermath of hospital-based care once again left her feeling disrupted and vulnerable. By her third pregnancy, she knew she wanted something different, leading her to plan a home birth, where she experienced birth on her own terms - no interventions, no tearing, just trust in her body and baby. In this episode, Kassie shares the lessons she’s learnt across her three births, and we explore how interventions can shape not just your birth experience, but also your postpartum recovery and transition into motherhood. | S2 EP65: Ally Collins - Twins Freebirth + Two hospital births + DVT issue | 24 Nov 2021 | 01:22:53
S2 EP65: Today’s episode features the inspirational journey of freebirthing twin mama, Ally. The birth of Ally’s first daughter was a pleasant enough experience for her to opt back into the same model of care during her second pregnancy, until one simple question from her five year old daughter prompted her to consider a homebirth.
Using fertility treatments to fall pregnant with her second child, and having to go on a last minute trip to America, put her at a higher risk of a blood clotting condition known as deep vein thrombosis. When she raised concerns about a DVT to the midwife caring for her in America, her worries were quickly dismissed and a clearance to fly was given to her. The moment she landed in Australia she rushed straight to hospital where she was told she had a life-threatening 53cm blood clot in her leg. Considering all of this, when it came time to birth her son a hospital setting was the safest environment for her to bring him earthside and she went on to have a positive induction experience.
Although left extremely traumatised by that season in her life, it pushed her deeper into her innate wisdom that no one knows her body better than she does . This was the initiation she needed to completely step out of the system for her pregnancy and fully harness the deep trust within herself, her babies, and birth. We chat about the gentle realisation over time that she was having twins, and the invaluable lessons she drew from her most challenging moments.

On today’s show I chat with Perth mother, Jenna, about her two births.
Jenna’s first birth at a birthing centre was relatively straight-forward, until the moment her daughter lagged taking her first breath causing her to be swiftly taken away. When she called in her second baby, a son that she had felt around her from a small child, she initially decided to go back to the birthing centre because of projected fears around homebirthing, but found she felt disconnected and low leaving her appointments. Those feelings of despair were the push she needed to seek out the homebirth she had always desired.
We chat about the deep inner turmoil and lessons her pregnancies drew from her and the heartwarming moment she knew she was pregnant with her spirit baby.

Having birthed her first two babies within the hospital system, it wasn’t until she started documenting birth that the potent contrast between birth environments and the impact that can have on women, became apparent. When she conceived her third baby, she applied all the knowledge and wisdom she had gained through supporting other women to manifest the transformative birth she knew was possible.
We chat about the surreal feeling of being in front of the camera instead of behind it, and her inner dialogue as she felt all the sensations of physiological birth for the first time.

| S2 EP61 - Dayna Jangles - Three hospital births + Freebirth | 27 Oct 2021 | 00:50:39 | |
Today’s episode features the four births of Brisbane midwife and soon-to-be mother of five, Dayna. Having her first child at a young age meant she entered her journey from maiden to mother with very little knowledge on birth or the type of care she wanted. Although at the time she considered that experience a positive one, seeing her sister have a water birth prompted her to change her of model of care with baby number two.
A colostasis diagnosis during her third pregnancy meant an induction was imminent and no chance of another beautiful water birth, but instead of letting that defeat her, she decided to relinquish the fear and doubt and trust in what will be. When baby number four arrived womb-side the deep confidence in herself and birth would shine through when she decided to free birth him at home.

| S2 EP60: Amy Philp - Pregnancy Loss - Hospital birth + Homebirth | 20 Oct 2021 | 01:21:51 | |
Today’s episode is one of miracles and heartache - featuring the long journey of birth photographer and mother of two, Amy.
After losing one of her fallopian tubes to an ectopic pregnancy and being told by a specialist that she had minimal chances of conceiving naturally, Amy finally got her miracle baby. Although feeling overwhelmed with gratitude for her healthy baby, it wasn’t until her work as a birth photographer and witnessing the power of physiological, women-centred birth that she reflected and faced her past pregnancy and birth trauma. After suffering more loss, it was time for Amy to take back her power and gain control over her autonomy. She shares how she battled the fear and self-doubt anchored within after making the decision to homebirth her second son, an experience that deeply healed her, and how one act of compassion from a friend sent her on the path to become an award-winning birth photographer. There are moments of sorrow scattered throughout Amy’s journey but mostly courage, strength and resilience. My wish is that Amy’s story can be a beacon of hope for any listeners struggling with fertility.

| S2 EP59: Dr Diana Pakzamir - Hospital birth + Accidental Freebirth During a Pandemic | 13 Oct 2021 | 00:45:09 | |
On today’s show I chat with Melbourne chiropractor and mother of two, Diana. Coming from a long-line of generational birth trauma, Diana chose to change the narrative with her own birth journey. She hired a doula, did a hypnobirthing course and learnt all she could about physiological birth to give her the tools and knowledge she needed to navigate the system and give birth, drug-free, at her local hospital.
When she became pregnant with her second child, she again planned to birth at the local hospital only two minutes away, but her daughter had other plans and she ended up accidentally freebirthing her at home. We chat about the healing effect her birth had on her mother, and how the greatest act of surrender helped keep her environment calm and tranquil while bringing her daughter earthside.

| S6 EP172: Olivia Ruby: Caesarean + HBAC, Transfer, Hematoma + Freebirth, Face Presentation, 4kg+ Babies, Prolapse | 15 Feb 2025 | 01:25:43 | |
Today, I’m joined by Olivia as she takes us through her three vastly different birth experiences. Her first birth unfolded into a cascade of interventions, ultimately ending in a cesarean - an experience that opened her eyes to the realities of the mainstream birth system. Determined to do things differently, she planned a homebirth for her second. Olivia soon came to realise that hiring a private midwife and having a homebirth doesn’t automatically guarantee a fully supported, hands-off, undisturbed birth. Sometimes, even with the best intentions, a midwife’s past experiences or concerns can shape the space. In Olivia’s case, a call for an ambulance was made out of fear, disrupting what she had hoped would be an undisturbed birth. She describes this as an experience even more challenging than her cesarean. For her third birth, Olivia reclaimed full autonomy, stepping into her power to freebirth her baby at home on her own terms. This is a journey of awakening, resilience, and reclaiming birth - one that challenges perceptions and sparks deep reflection. | S2 EP55: Anna Vawser - Hospital breech birth | 08 Sep 2021 | 00:56:45
Today’s episode features midwife, Anna, taking us through her breech birth journey.
Originally wanting to birth at home through her hospitals midwifery program, she realised it was not an option after exhausting all efforts to turn her baby. Initially expecting to feel devastated when her final attempt ,doing an ECV failed, she left that appointment with a deep knowing and trust that her baby was breech presentation for a reason and she surrendered fully to the journey ahead of her.
At 37+3 she went into spontaneous labour and ultimately had the vaginal birth she desired, feeling held and supported by her colleagues.
An inspiring journey to remind us that breech birth is just another variation of normal.

On today’s episode we hear the birth story of first-time mum, Madelin. Having no concept of the types of care available to her, she entered the system and quickly felt overwhelmed and stressed by certain experiences. After completing a hypnobirthing course with her husband, they felt armed with knowledge walking into a midwife appointment at the hospital to discuss their birth preferences. Leaving that appointment feeling shut-down and unheard, Madelin knew a change in care was essential for her to manifest the birth she desired. The stars aligned as she booked a private midwife late in her pregnancy to birth her daughter at home.

On today’s episode I chat with Lisa about her fast and furious birth. Prior to her daughter being born Lisa says she felt terrified of birth and completely unprepared for what was ahead of her. Having only heard trauma-filled birth stories, she was consumed with doubt in her bodies abilities and lacked the knowledge to navigate the system. After booking an induction for 40 weeks, she went into spontaneous labour at home and ended up having a water birth 2 hours after arriving at hospital. Her birth experience transformed her perspective of birth, removing the fear and anxiety she once had, and revealing to her the innate power she always had within.

Todays show features the two contrasting births of Perth mum, Shannon. She describes her first birth as a traumatic and powerless experience that led her into a dark postpartum period, leaving her feeling incompetent.
When she and her husband decided to try for another baby, they both agreed they did not want to relive that same story and opted to have a homebirth through the hospitals Community Midwifery Program. Having given birth to what would be consider big babies, we chat about the fears projected on her around shoulder dystocia, how she avoided feeling anxious and powerless during her pregnancy this time around, and what she learned on reflection of her entire journey.

| S2 EP50: Carlie Ford - Unplanned Freebirth + Homebirth | 04 Aug 2021 | 00:50:06 | |
Today’s episode features the inspiring journey of mum of two, Carlie.
She had originally planned to birth in her local hospital but was encouraged by a midwife to access their homebirth program. A scan at 38 weeks revealed her baby was frank breech (bum down) meaning she wouldn’t be able to birth at home unless her baby turned. Fortunately, her waters broke shortly after and she went on to have a completely unplanned but incredibly beautiful freebirth at home. Her son was born posterior and frank breech.
Her second birth was again through the hospitals homebirth program and although another beautiful water birth, this time with a full term, head down baby; she reflects on the contrast between her two experiences and what she learned.

| S2 EP47: Emily Patterson - Homebirth - Hospital transfer + Homebirth + Freebirth | 14 Jul 2021 | 00:54:03 | |
On today’s show I chat with Emily about her three births.
Her first planned homebirth, through the community midwifery program, unfortunately ended in a somewhat traumatic transfer to hospital. Emily then had to do a lot of work to unpack the fears left behind from that experience for her next birth, which was at home with a private midwife. She went on to have the birth of her dreams that she describes as leaving her on a high for years to come.
When she consciously conceived her daughter, she originally had planned to have the same midwife, only to realise midway that she actually didn’t need anyone to birth her baby, and so began her journey to freebirth.
We chat about the challenge she faced when her waters broke and meconium was present, and why her husband was not onboard with the idea of freebirth to begin with.

Today, we begin with the birth story of first-time mum, Maddi. With a close friend who shared valuable knowledge about birth and a strong lineage of positive birth stories in her family, Maddi felt confident in her body’s ability to birth. While she chose to give birth in a hospital, her priority was to approach labour as naturally as possible. From the very start of her pregnancy, Maddi leaned into her intuition, balancing medical knowledge with trust in her body’s wisdom. She navigated hospital protocols with confidence, making informed choices and declining interventions that didn’t align with her birth preferences. This conscious decision-making empowered her to stay in control of her journey, ultimately achieving the birth she had envisioned - feeling supported, respected, and with minimal intervention. She shares with us the valuable tools she took away from each of her births to use in her practice supporting woman in the hospital. | S2 EP44: Emily Lal - Homebirth + Freebirth | 23 Jun 2021 | 00:41:47
Today’s episode features birthkeeper, Emily, sharing her two births.
Emily’s first birth was at home with the support of a private midwife which she describes as an empowering experience that changed her forever. This was also the birth that ignited the fire in her to support women on their own rite of passage. When she consciously conceived her daughter, she decided to take back her power, choosing to tune into her body and trusting her intuition to guide her through her pregnancy and birth.
Like her first birth, there came a time where she faced a challenge and needed guidance. This time around she had no one but herself to turn to, which allowed her the space to tune into her body, baby and intuition, guiding her to do what was needed to move her baby down and have a transformative, powerful birth.
