Welcome to Episode 359. This episode is 100% dedicated to talking about all the Marvel and Star Wars announcements at Disney Investor Day 2020. We are joined by Handy Greg and Eric Marable this week.
Wander Digital Code Winners Are Announced
This week I wasn’t expecting to cover any of what we covered so I was basically given a day and a half to put this all together. We talk about the individual announcements and give our thoughts on the new Star Wars TV and film projects. There’s definitely some that we’re more excited for than others.
A lot of the focus is on what we saw and heard in the Marvel (MCU) portion of the Disney Investor Meeting. We have full trailer breakdowns for Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. A lot of things you might have missed and quite a few theories for both. We may get lost in the weeds a few times but it was still fun to work things out.
Listen as we talk about: Armor Wars, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Black Panther II, Captain Marvel 2, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, Fantastic Four, Hawkeye, I Am Groot, Ironheart, Moonknight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Thor: Love and Thunder and WandaVision.
It looks like in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness some rumors for a 4chan poster actually were true AND we revisit those rumors again this episode. (Originally covered in Episode 357)
We talk about the Spider-Man 3 rumors this week. Is Tom Holland staying or leaving the MCU? And is Charlie Cox coming back as Daredevil and entering the MCU in Spider-Man 3?

We start with our review of Mulan out now on Disney Plus Premium. We are joined by Michael Winkler and June.
“Acclaimed filmmaker Niki Caro brings the epic tale of China’s legendary warrior to life in Disney’s “Mulan,” in which a fearless young woman risks everything out of love for her family and her country to become one of the greatest warriors China has ever known. When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.”
We then discuss Tenet and are joined by Kay Hoddy and June.
“Armed with only one word – Tenet – and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. | JAWS 45th Anniversary: Conversation w/ Production Designer Joe Alves | 05 Jun 2020 | 01:22:47 | |
In this bonus episode Brian is joined by Dan West, Ryan Drost and Scott Schuette as we talk to the Production Designer from Jaws, Joe Alves.
Alves has designed three features for Steven Spielberg, The Sugarland Express, Jaws, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He designed the three mechanical sharks for Jaws, with mechanical-effects man Robert Mattey supervising their physical construction in California. Alves worked on Jaws 2 in 1978 as both production designer and as second unit director. Alves directed Jaws 3-D in 1983.
Alves started on Jaws, before a finished script, a director, or even a green light from Universal Studios. The Zanuch and Brown Company sent him the galley sheets of the yet to be published best-selling novel and asked him to do large concept sketches of the shark action in the book. Joe researched and after a long search found Robert Mattey, a retired special effects person from Disney that said he could do it. Joe was responsible for the look and action of the shark. Joe, as production designer, also designed the sets and scouted the locations finding Martha’s Vineyard ideal for the film. Joe was on the set whenever the shark was used. He also sat with Spielberg and sketched the storyboards for the third act and was the 2nd unit Director (uncredited).
Check out Joe Alves website https://joealvesmovieart.com/
