This week Amber interviewed Scrantons first female and the current Mayor of Scranton! Check out this mini interview and her bio: Mayor Cognetti was sworn in as Mayor of Scranton on January 6, 2020. She won re-election to a full term in November 2021. Prior to becoming Mayor, she advised the Pennsylvania Auditor General on oversight of public school districts and care for older adults. Mayor Cognetti previously served as a director on the Scranton School Board. She served in the Obama administration as a senior advisor to the Under Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Treasury Department. She was a fundraiser and project director on numerous political campaigns. She also worked as an investment advisor in New York City. Mayor Cognetti holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and graduated summa cum laude from University of Oregon Clark Honors College with a BA in English Literature. For the past two years, a community-wide project Scranton’s Story: Our Nation’s Story, has explored themes of history, belonging and identity through a series of programs funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities. This week Amber interviewed Rapper Layul! This was her first musical artist to be interviewed. Check out her bio below. Hailing from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Layul is an emo rap artist whose journey in music began during her teenage years, although she only fully embraced it later in life. In 2020, she made a life-changing decision to use music as her means of self-expression and as a catalyst for personal growth. In April 2023, Layul made the decision to quit her job and focus exclusively on music, marking a significant milestone in her music career. This week the girls interview Councilwoman Jessica Rothchild! Jessica serves as a Scranton City Councilwoman. She was elected in 2019 and made Scranton history as the first LGBTQ council member. She is a homeowner in the Hill Section with her wife and their 2 year old daughter.
